The Rationale is not the real limitation; it is the ideology that sorely through reason can the architect produce an atemporal universal architecture. It is in the certainty and imposition, that reason fails to recognise the other narratives at play. Whether the restrictive city is a type of rational city or a continuation of the latter, it is subjected to the formal referential representations of modernism. This is not to say that what is designed to be logical or beautiful is restrictive per se, but it is to recognise that in the attempt of distinguishing oneself, the expression of each stylistic movement has enclosed its phenotypical expression to what was the zeitgeist of its time is.
