Idler Gears  An idler gear is a gear that is inserted between two other

gears. Idler gears do not affect the gear ratio between the input and output gears. The gear ratio would be computed just the same if there were no idler gear.  An idler gear is a small gear that does not change the

speed and direction of a rotation. An idler gear is placed in between two transfer motions that move between them in a loosely way on a shaft against a belt.
