Patients this week were turned back at Pofadder as the Dept. Health Credit Card was declined whilst trying to put petrol in the ambulance.

Thanks to vandalism and the family not being able to afford a tombstone the grave of legendary Namaqualand diva Magrieta “Grietjie”Adams was Howeverunrecognisable.,thischanged when three Garies businesses joined forces to put up a tombstone on Adams’s grave as a last honour to the memory of the icon. The tombstone was put up on Women’s Day Born in Garies, in the Northern Cape,Adams was a domestic worker all her life but she had a passion for singing and riel dancing.Through her singing and Nama dance steps she became a cultural icon who unified and inspired people of all races. Her most famous tune was the folk song “Lekker ou Jan”. KatyToontjies, who grew up with Adams, said she was a spontaneous and bold woman with character “We worked together for a year. I could learn from her and she was a cheerful and sincere person with a lot of talent. Grandmother GrietjieAdams was a very good example for everyone in Garies and for me as a young girl I could enjoy life with her,” she said.
Adams’s nephew Martin Klaase described his aunt as a cultural person who never forgot where she came from.

Wouter Jordaan, who was among those who put up the tombstone, said it was a disgrace thatAdams’s grave had been neglected for so many years that all that was left was a heap of stones.
“She was a person who believed that you can make a success of your life and that age doesn't matter. I will always remember the love she had for her family and the way she would say something,” he said. In 2004, at the age of 76,Adams released a CD.The same year, she was presented with the Northern Cape IconAward by then-premier Dipuo Peters. Adams was an instant national hit and regularly performed on TV shows and at the Klein Karoo NationalArts Festival in SheOudtshoorn.diedin2014 at the age of 88 and was buried in the Uniting Reformed Church graveyard in Garies. Her funeral was attended by several dignitaries from the government and tourism sector and promises were made to keep her legacy alive.

The 10th anniversary of the tragic Marikana massacre has recently put the focus once again on the role of mining in South Africa and specifically the economic impact or the absence of it on communities where mining activities are prominent. It is old news thatTsantsabane is surrounded by 38 operational mines and only Beeshoek and Kolomela mine are really visible in local economic development. Earlier in the year, the community reached a boiling point and blocked all entrances to Postmasburg to send a strong message to all the mines that are not involved in local economic development. This protest was met with an urgent court application and a series of fruitless meetings by the Department of Minerals and Energy which were criticized for their poor role in bringing local mines to order. Four month after the protest nothing has changed for the people and small business owners ofTsantsabane.
Meanwhile, mining bosses pocketing millions and masters in the divide-and-rule principle and a 2nd Marikana is quietly on its way toTsantsabane, the fleshpot of the Northern Cape.

Management A Breeding Ground For 2nd Marikana In Tsantsabane Pr lbe um
The Marikana Massacre, which resulted in the fatal shooting of 34 mineworkers by the South African Police Service during protest action, marked a moment of deep introspection for the mining industry to ensure the underlying matters that may have contributed to the tragedy were addressed to avoid similar instances from occurring again.
STANDPUNTArrogance Of Mine
Historical sources confirm unequivocally that the emergence of mining in South Africa in the mid-1800s laid the foundation forApartheid and economic division based on race and the impact is still visible today in SouthAfrica and specificallyTsantsabane especially the logistics industry for the transportation of minerals is controlled and manipulated by a certain racial group. If you look at the names on the trucks that infiltrate the town daily, it is evident who owns this industry These truck owners are nowhere involved in any economic investment inTsantsabane yet they are part of procurement of local mines. In a recent meeting between theTsantsabane Logistic Co-operative (TLC) and a local mine, theTLC made it clear that mines must deliver on their SLPcommitments to develop local SMMEs and not Gauteng-based logistic Althoughcompanies.the Mineral Council is of the view that SLPs are drawn up in consultation with communities and local municipalities this practice is non-existent inTsantsabane.Only one mining group has regular stakeholder engagements and the rest are nowhere visible in Tsantsabane. The Minerals Council believes mining companies should be allowed to pool and share their SLP investments to create meaningful impact, but, despite years of discussion with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), the Minerals Council says mining companies are nowhere closer to realizing this kind of collaboration, with significant opportunity costs for communities as a consequence.
079 615 8606 Upington
Mining in SouthAfrica is riddled with corruption, fraud, and political power play where politicians also have a hand in the pie. If you draw the line to Tsantsabane, large-scale corruption and fraud are not excluded. The political will and vision to regulate mining in Tsantsabane for the maximum economic benefit of the residents ofTsantsabane remain an ongoing debate with councillors arguing and fighting amongst themselves while the mineral wealth is still in the hands of people outside the Northern Cape and SouthAfrica. When are mining rights going to be awarded to the local residents if they are handed out like hotcakes at DMRE to people who can't even spellTsantsabane? When will local small businesses be prioritized in procurement processes that are still dominated by companies from outside the province with the excuse that local young people and small businesses do not have the expertise or capacity? When will young people get the expertise and qualifications if a technical college for Postmasburg is nowhere a priority while funds are used for a park and paving path and a multipurpose centre that also flickers on the horizon? When will all the small mines realize that they have an important role to play in the economic development of Tsantsabane? When are all the mines going to create platforms for public participation and stakeholder engagement? When will theTsantsabane municipality be recognized as an integral partner to the local economy? Elected councillors argue over rule this and that of the Municipal SystemsAct while mining bosses sit back and regulate the divideand-rule principle from outside SouthAfrica. After the protest inApril, about 8 small mines suddenly made business opportunities available for local small businesses. Unfortunately, 95% of these opportunities were beyond the expertise of the residents and small businesses because our residents are psychologically and deliberately kept in poverty by mining magnates. The arrogance of mine management is mainly driven by financial and political power and the residents ofTsantsabane will continue to fight for the next 100 years over the crumbs that fall on the ground. Tsantsabane is a brooding Marikana due to the arrogant attitude of mine management, in particular, the lack of political will and the psychological conspiracy to keep the people of Tsantsabane in poverty. According to Vernon Mostert, the provincial chairperson of the United Nations declarations for the rights of the Indigenous people (UNDRIP) the mineral wealth of SouthAfrica is vested within the indigenous people and not the government. The legal team of UNDRIPis currently in the process of round table discussions with mining giants in the Northern Cape.

Language activists have launched the Nama San Language Curriculum in Upington in the Northern Cape. Their aim is to safeguard the continued existence of the San languages, many of which are on the brink of extinction. They further intend to develop learning materials and a colourful Nama-San, English andAfrikaans glossary
The Nama language dates back thousands of years. It is a language being spoken in Namibia, Botswana and parts of South LanguageAfrica.activists say this ancient language is on the brink of extinction and they want to revive it.Alanguage activist Athea Damarah says it is important that children should be taught the language. “We can help this language not to get extinct.Alanguage is not just something that we talk about.Alanguage tells your story, it tells your history. It tells you who you are, where you come from and where you are going. To me, for now, my focus is on the little children. It is easier for them to learn. When you are older, you only learn something that is important to Nowyou.”a curriculum has been launched and the main aim is for it to be introduced in Pella, Pofadder, Onseepkans, Kuboes, Riemvasmaak and Upington. Project Coordinator, Gerhard Damarah reiterates that it is important to harmonise the “Nama, language.Khu,Khwe and N|uu languages, must come under one umbrella and I think from that we will move forward as a united front. We are writing simple booklets in Nama, which will be translated into different languages. we are also trying to get a new approach and that is the modern approach to get it

“It is being done through the PanSALB processes together with the Department of Education which already acknowledges the fact that there is a necessity for the Nama to be in the curriculum of the country In order for them to get it acknowledged as an official language that is totally another process, that is one that needs legislation and that is the process that will go through Parliament and Parliament processes include the fact that it will possibly be introduced in one of the two houses and then there will be a public participation process in order for the interest groups to make sure they put their case and in order for Parliament to defend the case of that specific decision when we want to Anlegislate.”AppandYoutube videos are also being developed to get youngsters to learn the languages faster

Hetraders.noted that Nathan is alleged to have told SouthAfrica's diamond regulator that it was his company DNT- which does have a diamond licence - whose name was changed to theAlexander Bay Diamond Company
Aweek ago, the Special Investigating Unit seized hard drives and documents from Alexander Bay's Johannesburg offices. The search and seizure operation formed part of an investigation into corruption at Alexkor, SA's embattled state diamond mining company But in spite of the raid,Alexander Bay director Daniel Nathan said a planned auction of alluvial diamonds would still take place next week.

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into State Capture's report, released inApril, found that SSI was appointed a service provider toAlexkor in 2015 even though it had no diamond licence.
According to its Facebook page, Alexander Bay cleans, grades, curates and photographs diamonds for its clients.

The commission's chair, Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, ruled there were "reasonable grounds" to conclude that the tender was manipulated and a "foregone Zondoconclusion".alsofound that the SSI's sale of about R2 billion in diamonds likely constituted criminal conduct, as SSI did not have a licence. SSI was majority-owned by Kuben Moodley, an associate of the Gupta family who was arrested in October last year at ORTambo InternationalAirport. Moodley was nabbed en route to Dubai on money laundering charges linked to contracts at state-owned freight rail and ports operatorTransnet. He was later released on bail of R150 000.
"Thereafter they are placed on our exclusive online bidding system," it states. Until it changed its name in September 2018,Alexander Bay was known as Scarlet Skye Investments 60 (SSI). In 2015 SSI was appointed to undertake the marketing and valuation of diamonds that Alexkor mined in the Richtersveld area in the Northern Cape. It continued untilAugust 2020, when a probe found that its contract withAlexkor was likely irregular The contact was terminated the same month.

Alittle farther west is Deadvlei, a photographer’s delight. The name translates to “dead marsh,” since it was once a lush wetland filled with shrubs and acacia trees. Around 600 years ago, the surrounding dunes rose higher, eventually cutting the river off from the pan for good, with stark black skeletons of trees all that remain. The air is so dry and hot here that the trees will never decompose. Rising from the scorched white pan, they are flanked by the tallest of the dunes, and set against a piercing blue sky
Most travelers don’t consider going on a road trip when visiting Africa – yet Namibia is a selfdrive wonderland, a country of wide-open spaces where the scenery constantly evolves and shifts from desert to mountains to verdant valleys. But be sure to plan your drives carefully, as the distance between places of interest can range from 200km (124 miles) to 600km (372 miles) or more. Once you’re off the main highway, it could be hours before you see another vehicle. What will delight you instead is wildlife like oryx, zebra and giraffe.
The Southern Cross constellation is also visible, a rare treat for those visiting from the Northern THemisphere.akeinsome history in Windhoek

With vast expanses of deserts, mountains, canyons and savannas, Namibia is a backdrop of endless horizons. On the remote southwest coast of Africa, the country is home to some of the world’s most diverse and distinctive landscapes, each offering genuinely unforgettable experiences. Hike across crimson dunes, towering rock formations and lush countryside. Drive over black-tar roads, slicing through dusty, white sand plains beneath dramatic pink clouds. Walk among ancient acacias that defy nature as they stand tall, dead but not petrified, stretching toward the sun. Stargaze from the desert up into one of the world’s darkest skies. Explore a diamond-mining settlement turned ghost town. These are just some of the most spectacular things you can do on a journey through Namibia. Experience the awe of the Kalahari Desert The Kalahari Desert is a vast and desolate expanse of harsh land and extreme temperatures that nonetheless teems with wildlife, with leopards, cheetahs, blackmaned lions, herds of elephants and packs of wild dogs all plentiful. The desert floor in Namibia turns red as the dunes rise and mix with iron oxide from the Orange River to the south, setting the scene for some of the most iconic sunsets inAfrica.
Entrance to the park requires a permit, which you can purchase 10km (6 miles) away in the port town of Lüderitz. Splurge for the photographer’s pass if you want to avoid the afternoon crowds, as it allows you to enter before or after the gates close, when you’ll get a true sense of the site’s eeriness. Winds sing through the rafters and move loose boards and metal, making a visit here a surreal experience for the Plansenses.aroad trip across Namibia
Astrophotographers come from around the world to capture the night sky in Namibia. The Namib Desert is the oldest in the world, and it’s so sparsely populated that much of it has zero light pollution, with guaranteed clear skies in June and July in Sossusvlei. As a result, stargazers enjoy peerless views up to the galactic center of the Milky Way, in all its celestial glory.

For more than 30,000 years, the Kalahari has been home to the San,Africa’s first people and its oldest culture. Visits to San communities help preserve their hunter-gatherer traditions while offering much-needed support for individuals and families. You’ll also hear one ofAfrica’s oldest click languages: the San language, called Khoisan, has the most distinct clicks of any, at five. Explore these meaningful cultural experiences through such NGOs as Ju/’Hoansi-San, the Nyae Nyae Conservancy and VNaankuse.isitaghost town in the desert
The roads in Namibia are graded Ato D, withAbeing a broad paved highway and D being a rough dirt “road.”All rentals of 4x4 vehicles come outfitted with two spare tires and two gas tanks, along with many additional options for safety and comfort. Bring your adventurous spirit and the proper supplies – and expect the road trip of a lifetime. Stare into the abyss of a prehistoric canyon The world’s second-largest canyon, Fish River Canyon is a one-of-a-kind geological wonder The site dates back more than 500 million years, and its sheer scale and raw natural beauty are a sight to behold. As you approach the area, you’ll think you landed on another planet: giant crimson boulders stacked upon each other create exciting formations and outcrops that make this place feel truly Hikingotherworldly.andmountain biking in the dry winter months are popular with adventure enthusiasts. Several lodges in the area offer morning and evening drives, the latter making a requisite stop for alfresco cocktails. Take part in Namibia’s roadside Thoughtraditionsstations and food options are few and far between on Namibian roads, unusual and quirky roadside stops tend to pop up in the middle of nowhere. Stop at McGregor’s Bakery in the tiny settlement of Solitaire for the best apple pie inAfrica, or the equally rustic shop at Betta Camp betweenAus and Sesriem. If you’re traveling in the north during the rainy season (January to March), you’ll likely see locals waving you down while holding oddly shaped white objects. These strange-looking items are giant mushrooms called omajova: they’re cultivated by termites –and they’re simply delicious. If you bring some back to your lodge, the chef might be able to include them in your meal. Hike an immovable dune Sossusvlei is one of the bestknown attractions in Namibia for good reason. Bright red dunes, some of the tallest in the world, surround a contrasting dry pan of salt and clay. Called star dunes, these dunes take shape from winds that blow in every direction, with razor-thin spines that seem no more than a single grain of sand wide atop the ridge. Hikers can enjoy early-morning climbs up them – especially Big Daddy, the tallest at 325m (1066ft).
Aonce thriving diamond mining settlement, Kolmanskop is a strangely fascinating ghost town slowly being claimed by the Namib Desert. As the sand constantly shifts, filling up windows and doorways, you may have to crawl through a side window to get into some of the structures. Once inside, you’ll see traces of human life in the form of brightly painted walls, stenciling, wallpaper and telephone hardware. You can explore the buildings by walking through onetime workers’homes, a schoolhouse, a hospital, a shopping center, a bowling alley and the first X-ray lab in the Southern Hemisphere.A millionaires’row lies higher on the dune, where the mine’s director, architect, bookkeeper and other higher-ups once resided. Each time you enter a new building, you’ll find something unique, like a bathtub carried into another room by the rising sand. Look down and you’ll find footprints of small critters and birds. If you’re lucky, you might even spot one ofAfrica’s rarest predators, the brown hyena; the region is a protected area for these beautiful, shy canines.

The first leg of the training focused on, among other things: inducting a member into your business, managing expenditure against a budget, how to apply the principles of costing and pricing to your business, developing and implementing a marketing plan and how to produce an effective business plan. The mandatory training for about 22 small businesses was well attended.
Bruce Kuriti , the founder of KuritiTraining and Business Consultancy says:” We Equip our clients with skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for the development of maintenance, entrepreneurship, andgrowth of business enterprises. Our training further equips SMMEs to venture into sustainable self-. employment and job creation.”
The directors representativesandof the 22 SMMEs in the ESD Program funded by Beeshoek mine hope that their companies will be part of the supply chain of Beeshoek Mine to grow their small businesses in order to create employment.
Tsantsabane One of the oldest groups in Tsantsabane has been making a big impact these past few months in developing small businesses in collaboration with a partner in training.
Beeshoek Mine outside Postmasburg, inTsantsabane previously supplied all of Assmang’s iron ore output since 1964.Assmang commissioned a new open cast mine, Beeshoek South, in 1999 and is now mainly responsible for supplying iron ore to the local South African market, producing 3 Million tons per annum. Beeshoek is the oldest of Assmang’s iron ore mining operations, which predominantly produces iron ore for sale in the domestic market. In partnership with KuritiTraining and Business Consultancy established in 2004, the mining group identified 30 small businesses to be enrolled in the enterprise and supplier development program (ESD). The mine received almost 130 applications in 2021 and only 20 SMMEs met the strict criteria to participate in the ESD program facilitated by Kuriti.

Govt. Committees Shocked

Parliamentary committees, after an oversight visit to the Northern Cape, have expressed concern over a Kimberley lodge, built as an investment initiative of the department of tourism, having been “rendered useless”.
Rayi said another negative implication was that employees would now be denied the opportunity to participate in the business venture, so the department of tourism was instructed to speed up work to get the lodge operational again.
On an inspection tour of the lodge they discovered it had been built on unstable soil and the foundation was of poor quality
"According to the committees, these challenges could have been identified at the planning phase of the project and proper mitigation measures put in place,” said trade select committee chairperson Mandla Rayi. The committees found the closure of the lodge was in direct conflict with plans for it to be an economic opportunity by attracting business in conferencing from Gauteng and the Western Cape.

There has, however, been progress on another acquisition, the R550m acquisition of phosphate, a vermiculite and rare earth mining rights from Glenover Phosphate announced in December last year
conclude represents the latest in a long list of disappointments for Aquila regarding Gravenhage, a deposit it has had on its books for the best part of ten years.
Afrimat Pulls Out Of $45m Gravenhage Manganese
Licence
“There are no outstanding conditions precedent in respect of the Inventory Deposits and Vermiculite Mining Right, and payments of R215m and R35m for the Inventory Deposits and the Vermiculite Mining Right respectively were paid in cash to the sellers,”Afrimat said.
The acquisition was structured through a sale of assets agreement and a sale of shares agreement which are subject to a string of suspensive conditions including the granting of mining rights and water use licence application by June 15.
“Furthermore, Glenover has the ability to provide minerals into various sectors such as fertilisers and magnets for electric motors. This providesAfrimat with a new platform for growth whilst at the same time reducing cyclicality,” it said. Deal In Dispute Over Water Use

Adispute regarding the project’s licensing eventually ended up in the Constitutional Court after years of dispute with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, which said the deposit was partially owned by a third party Aquila is 85% owned by Chinese steelmaker, Baosteel Group.

AFRIMAT, a Johannesburg-listed miner, said the proposed purchase of the Gravenhage manganese project in South Africa’s Northern Cape would not proceed principally because the venture lacked a compliant water use licence.
The Glenover deposit has a resource life of more than 20 years whichAfrimat said could be extended by “acquiring the remaining in situ resource by exercising the option and implementing the sale of shares agreement”.They mineral rights are situated nearThabazimbi in the Limpopo Province.
Conditions precedent regarding the $45m sale of the Gravenhage project, announced byAfrimat in May 2021, had anAugust 20 fulfilment date. Afrimat also said that a formal dispute had been declared between the company and the seller, which also includes Rakana Consolidated Mines after negotiations failed. If the dispute remains unresolved the parties would resort to arbitration, Afrimat said.
Glenover “reducesAfrimat’s exposure to the ferrous metals value chain by providing a multicommodity product which addresses fundamental needs and trends including the agriculture and food industry as well as new applications”,technologythecompany said at the time of the acquisition.

UPINGTON
Richmond lies just off the N1 and almost halfway between Johannesburg and CapeTown. In the past, the town had little to offer passing motorists, except for a chance to refuel, grab a snack and continue their journeys north or south. Modernday Richmond is worth at least two days of a traveller’s time, in terms of a range of activities, overnight stays and dining
The old Masonic Hotel in Richmond has been transformed into another small enterprise that creates local jobs: Karoo Creations, which produces topend duvets made from sheep’s Atwool.the edge of town is the Hope Centre, which feeds more than 200 Richmond children on most weekdays. The centre is funded by theAmerican Rotary organisation, and also cultivates its own vegetable plot. About 18km to the north on the national highway stands the Karoo Padstal, owned and staffed by Richmond people. The upmarket farm stall has developed into a central source for regional products. If you make something authentic from the Karoo, this is your shop window. If you’re motoring down or up the N1, this is your oasis of coffee, upmarket edibles and all manner of Karoo goods. There’s even a world-class chef in the kitchen! Art Project: Horse Museum:
