ATHENS BANNER-HERALD

OnlineAthens.com is the 7,405th most trafficked website in the United States and the 39,369th most trafficked website in the world. OnlineAthens.com is the 6th most visited news and information site in the Atlanta DMA and the 14th most visited local site. OnlineAthens.com mobile, visited nearly one million times a month on mobile devices, offers a dynamically-rendering mobile site, an e-edition, a variety of apps and other web-only publications, including the popular Gameday app, for everything Georgia football. We strive to ensure you get your news and information how you want it.

Founded in 1832, the Athens Banner-Herald's roots trace back to one of the state's oldest newspapers, the Southern Banner. It merged with the Herald in 1921 and was purchased by William S. Morris III in 1965 as it was emerging as one of the finest newspapers in the state. It excelled beyond its competition in content, technology and print methods. The Daily News began as a converted weekly that had once been a shopper. The Athens Advertiser, as it was called before it became a daily, became an instant sensation with readers. In 1967 Morris Communications Corporation purchased the Daily News, and the morning and afternoon papers in Athens were brought together under one roof. In May 2001, the two papers were merged into one paper - the resulting newspaper >>The “News Building”, home to the Athens Banner-Herald was designed to be an exact replica of the Parthenon and represents the city’s namesake. Photo was a redesigned morning paper named courtesy of OnlineAthens/Athens Banner-Herald. the Athens Banner-Herald. Its current circulation is between 14,500 and 18,000 daily and 24,000 Sunday, and its website, OnlineAthens, averages almost 8 million page views in a given month.
