t was a night filled with music and dance as Zee channel stars rolled up their sleeves, put on their dancing shoes and their best vocals at the Zee Night 2010. The event was held at Merdeka Hall in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur on Oct 2. Performing at the musical extravaganza were some of Zee channel's finest and popular stars like Jai Kumar from Dance India Dance, Shakti Mohan, winner of Dance India Dance, singers Rohanpreet, Harpreet Deol and Sumedha Karmahe from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. The channel's favourite on screen couple Sushant Singh Rajput aka Manav and Ankita Lokhande aka Archana of Pavitra Rishta dazzled the audience with their contemporary performance. It was hosted by Dance India Dance host Saumya Tandon alongside THR Raaga DJ Anantha, who kept the audience entertained with their wit and charm. They took the audience through the programme while making them step up and dance. The show was choreographed by Bollywood's Swarup, who set the pace for the evening. Indian soap opera leading couple Archana and Manav took the audience by surprise with their energetic dance routine. Sumedha impressed the audience by singing AR Rahman's Chupke Se from Saathiya and a few verses from the Tamil version of the Snehithane song from Alaipayuthe. Her melodious voice continued to mesmerise audiences as she sang a few songs like Mere Dholna (Bhool Bhulaiyaa), Aaj Ki Raat (Don) and Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom baba (Kasam paida

In the mean while there are accusations on Nandini and is asked to go through a test to prove her virginity. Dr. Kalyani tests Nandini and is shocked when she comes to a revelation that Nandini had in fact delivered a kid before. However, she creates another report and announces that she had not delivered any baby.

As per the reports, the decision of closing the show was taken by the channel 'Star Plus'. This may come as shocking news to many of 'Bidaai' fans. But, the channel wants to replace it with a new show and they are adamant on this decision. Initially, there were lots of talks to move the show to an afternoon slot but the idea was rejected. Recently, 'Bidaai' has completed 700 successful episodes. The show started on October 8, 2007. Since last three years, viewers have lost interest in the show and its characters. The story of two sisters touched everyone starting from a housewife to a young college student as it was a story of four young people. Sara Khan and Parul Chauhan became popular as Sadhna and Ragini, the two female lead characters. Actors Angad Hasija and Kinshuk Mahajan were known by all as Alekh and Ranvir. Recently, the show saw a seven year leap where in the show missed Sadhna and Ranvir, who opted out of the show. A new drama produced by Sphere Origins' or Shakuntalam Telefilms, is likely to replace 'Bidaai'.

Apart from Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan, whose kids Aryan and Suhana will make their first appearance ever on a chat show, the Starplus channel plans to bring the four Bachchans, Amitabh-Jaya and Abhishek-Aishwarya together. And as if this is not enough, Karan is learnt to have roped in Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar as well. Saurabh Yagnik, general manager and senior vice-president, English channels, Star India, confirms, "The Bachchans are definitely a part of Koffee With Karan 3. As of now, we're not sure if we'll get them together since they are very busy. But we're hopeful because they haven't made a chat show appearance on national TV together before." In the past when Karan had asked Aamir to go on his show, he refused saying he did not want to be part of the rapid-fire rounds and those questions that usually lead to the celebrity guests spilling secrets and saying things they later regret; remember Bipasha Basu and Lara Dutta's comments about Amisha Patel! Karan and Aamir have been spending more time with each other so seems Aamir is finally willing to open up on the popular show. One can only imagine the questions Karan will have ready for the superstar! It was rumoured that the first guests on Koffee With Karan 3 would be Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan with their kids. When asked, Yagnik says, "The guest list is still being contemplated by Karan and the team from the channel. He's speaking to all of them but nothing has been confirmed yet. We plan to take the show beyond Bollywood stars."

The contestant list that has been confirmed so far is Prarthana Behere, Neha Marda, Karan Mehra (of Behenein fame), Piyush Sahdev, Richa Soni, Naman Shaw, Ashita Dhawan, Chaitanya Chowdhury, Jayshree Soni, Ishita Panchal, Ulka Gupta and Swini Khara." inod Kumar and Paramjit Kaur, both from Amritsar, were declared the winners of Voice of Punjab after the final round of the PTC Punjabi talent hunt show held at the Khalsa College ground. Both were among the top ten singers who were finalised after a series of competitions among budding Punjabi singers from all over the country. Rajiee M Shinde of television channel PTC Punjabi said the winners would get a chance to record an album with a reputed music company, besides other prizes. The winners were selected by a team of judges which included top singers Hans Raj Hans, Sarabjit Kokewali, Harbhajan Maan, Miss Pooja and music director Jaidev. The show was also marked by performances by Sukhbir, Pooja, Diljit and Satinder Satti.

madhouse comic caper, Abhishek Sharma's Tere Bin Laden is sure to make you laugh. Ali Hasan (Ali Zafar), a reporter for 'Danka' TV wants to go to America at any cost. He has had umpteen rejections following 9/11 so he tries to come up with cornball schemes to achieve his sole ambition. One of them involves creating the latest Osama Bin Laden video in order to earn the big bucks he requires to pay the agent who is going to give him a new identity and passport. Luckily for him a chance photo-shoot at a cocka roo competition gets him the perfect candidate, Noora, a Punjabi poultry farmer (a perfect doppelganger for Osama) who also trains cocks for the homegrown cuckudoo-coo championships ! Abhishek Sharma's script has zany and highly entertaining elements and his narrative too is imbued with the same sense of fun, energy and excitement.

hoothnath' is the story of a seven-year-old naughty yet innocent boy Banku (Aman Siddiqui) who unknowingly turns a foe into a friend. He is perfect Dennis the Menace. Banku loves to play pranks, make up stories and trouble his mom. His innocence is deceiving. Banku and his mom come to Nath Villa which is inhabited by a ghost who is stuck in limbo. Banku befriends this ghost (Bhoothnath Amitabh Bachchan) and helps him achieve salvation. This is a story about innocence, honesty and the pure love of a child. It comes with no expectations and no boundaries. This love can make you believe in miracles. The film is made under the banner of BR Films. It is directed by Vivek Sharma . e celebrate all the festivals in our house. During Diwali we play cards. Javed adds, "Diwali is my occasion for gambling. We've always celebrated Diwali, eaten sweets, and participated in poojas. As a kid I used to burst crackers but not anymore." In Shabana's parents' house, Diwali and Holi are celebrated on a large scale. Today, though I enjoy these festivals, it is more for their cultural aspects. In Lucknow during my childhood we celebrated Diwali with diyas, and that was a different atmosphere completely."

iwali is not a festival we celebrate in our family. We never have done. Now though my son likes crackers I am a passive spectator. We don't have pooja or anything like that. We reserve that for Ganpati. I think perhaps because I never got to burn crackers as a child, I deliberately keep away even now, as a sign of resentment.

MANISHA KOIRALA I like doing Rangoli during Diwali, and I light the traditional diyas made with oil and cotton wicks. But I don't like the bulbs which most people use nowadays. I don't like crackers. I like to do pooja with the idols to create a festive atmosphere. My mother reminds me to buy something on Dhanteras and I do, just to feel like a part of tradition.

Alka Yagnik Diwali is a welcome festival but the noise and crackers are something I prefer to keep away from. The smoke affects me so badly that my throat becomes sore. So I hide myself in a corner and keep away. There's always lots of mithai, we dress up in special clothes and all the hustle-bustle that goes with Diwali is on. But you'll find me hiding in a corner till it's all over.

TABU We celebrate Diwali as if it's our own festival. We eat lots of mithai, visit people, wish them, play cards, dress up... all of it. We look forward to the festival as much as any other festival and enjoy it tremendously. We go to visit Shabana and Javed, then Baba and Tanvi In each of these places there is a big celebration, card-playing and parties... Only we don't drink.

n a statement that can hardly qualify as modest, Bipasha Basu has said that it is she who made `being sexy' a trend in Bollywood - a trend that many of her contemporaries followed. "When I entered the film industry, I was called the `unconventional one'. I was the one who showed that being sexy was fine, and other actors eventually followed the trend. The dusky complexion also became a hit, thanks to me. I have carved a niche for myself, and people now take me seriously. "The actor, who was recently part of Salman Khan's Being Human Show in Mumbai with other actors such as Katrina Kaif, Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, says, "It was a fabulous show. It was a great opportunity to meet everyone and work towards a noble cause." So, is she friends with all of them? "Friend' is a very strong term. To be honest, everyone can't be a friend, but it is great to cordially meet one other once a while."

Did you get along with your Break Ke Baad hero Imran Khan? He is really sweet. Actors tend to give and take a lot. We had a lot of rehearsals for the film because the dialogues demanded it. They are not dialogues, they are conversations, which two people in a relationship are likely to have. You have created quite a furore with a recent interview in which you have revealed that your boyfriend cheated on you. If it is in the interview, then I must have said it. Was it directed at Ranbir or someone else? Can you please clear the air? I have not named anyone in the interview. People have the habit of assuming a lot of stuff and jumping to conclusions. decade, what's the secret of the dream run? "She's sexy, she's beautiful and she's a very good dancer," says choreographer and director Farah Khan, "but then so are a lot of girls out there." The difference, Farah says. Is in the way she has planned her career. "Malaika has an edge because she has chosen her assignments wisely, maintained her exclusivity and is extremely professional. That's the reason she has lasted so long," she says. That, and the backing of one of Bollywood's most powerful film families. The item number business started as a lark for the Khan bahu. Make-up artiste Mickey Contractor suggested her name to Farah Khan, then on the lookout for a dancer who could hold her own against Shah Rukh Khan in Dil Se. After that romp on a train hurtling through a lush Ooty countryside, her decisions have been well thought out. She is serious about her "item queen" tag, meticulous about rehearsals and, more importantly, will not shimmyshine in e v e r y o t h e r movie.

Shooting for films is not as easy as people think; it involves a lot of hard work. Sometimes, actors have to wait almost endlessly in between shots while the camera is being set up in the next location. So stars were asked what they do in between shots when they have time to kill.

I play music and start dancing. I normally don't find time on shoots, but if I have time, I ask my fans on Twitter to chat and ask me questions. Also, dancing was a hobby which is now my profession, so I play music and start dancing. I also love my bikes, so if I have taken my bike with me to the shoot, I often go out of the studio for a ride.

ANUSHKA SHARMA: I'm a voracious reader, I love reading everything from fiction to non-fiction to romantic novels etc. So I read books in-between shots. Also, I listen to a lot of music. When you are from Bangalore, you have a certain amount of rock influence. So, I listen to rock music as well as soft rock like U2, Coldplay etc.

BOMAN IRANI: I watch a lot of DVDs inbetween shots, I carry them from home. A while back, I was shooting at DY Patil stadium so I carried DVDs of Casablanca, Burn After Reading, MASH etc. Also, I carry my camera with me and whenever I find something interesting I go clickclick! I shot a lot of pictures during the shoot of Well Done Abba and Housefull recently.

AKSHAYE KHANNA: I play chess as I find the game very interesting. I have played chess with everyone from my actors to my directors. I have played it with most of co-actors from Race to Naqaab to Short Kut etc.

BARBARA MORI: Earlier, I used to smoke; but now I have quit so I have lots of coffee and try and concentrate on my role. When I do a film, I only think about it. I had tried giving up cigarettes for seven months but when I did a film in which I was shown smoking, I slipped back into the habit; but now I have given up the habit for good. If someone yells at me on the sets, I just stop working and leave. But when I started my work with him, I was spellbound. The way he takes care of his cast is amazing. We clicked right from the beginning. We shared a great equation." Hrithik may have played a superman in 'Krrish', but he feels his character in 'Guzaarish' is that of the coolest superman. "This character is very special and different from the others I have played till now. This man on the wheelchair is the coolest superman. Since I have met people like this, they are the real heroes for me. They kept me happy and energetic. They shared a lot with me: ideas, jokes and their feelings. I am just representing one of them. "While playing this character I felt I should not let them down. I will be working for them for the rest of my life. It's sad that we don't have a proper organisation which can take care of such people." Hrithik adds that playing the character has brought many changes in him as a person. "Earlier I was slightly irritable by nature. I would get edgy at times and not take problems as part and parcel of life. But now I am a changed man. I try to walk ahead no matter what the problems." The word 'Guzaarish' means 'request'. So what is that one thing Hrithik may have asked from his elders or the Almighty? "I do not remember having asked for anything as such. I've always believed in karma. Also, I have always got what I have desired through my hard work and determination."

eflux (also known as regurgitation) is the backward movement of the stomach contents into the throat and/or mouth. Reflux is a normal part of children's growth and development and usually corrects itself by 12 months of age. At 4 months nearly 7 out of 10 babies experience some form of reflux. If you are concerned about your baby's reflux. Seek advice from your healthcare professional. What are the signs? Most babies appear to have no other signs of distress from bringing up part of their milk after some or all of their feeds. If they are happy and their growth and development is fine then there is no need to do anything (except have plenty of cloths on hand). For some babies, bringing milk and/or food from the stomach into their throat and mouth may cause them pain. These babies may.

• Be irritable and cry excessively • Have a fever • Show blood in their vomit • Arch their backs and fuss when trying to feed • In severe cases, the baby may not gain weight or even lose weight What is the treatment? Quite often it is about finding the right position to hold your baby whilst feeding them, so ask your family and child health nurse for suggestions on wrapping and positioning. Gravity plays an important role - try to gently cuddle your baby in a more upright position after their feed. Try smaller, frequent feeds. If all of the above measures fail you might discuss with your healthcare professional the need for specially developed thickened formula. If you are concerned that Reflux is causing more serious problems, see your GP as there are other medical options available for severe cases. Ugly face of corrupt politicians

ased on the Hollywood flick 'Phone Booth' (2002) by Colin Farrell Knock Out has the shell of the Hollywood movie but inside carries the body of its own. It largely makes a point at the corrupt political system in the country where the top brass of netas stuff their Swiss bank accounts with the hard earned money of general public. The protagonist, Irfan Khan playing Bachchu Bhai alias Tony is an investment banker who accidentally comes across a nameless caller Sanjay Dutt at a public phone booth. He holds Tony hostage at gun point and directs him to do what he wants him to do. The movie opens up the ugly face of corrupt politicians and ends with a dramatic action sequence at the climax. The audience may find the story stereotyped

as the entire film is placed at the same phone booth with the same characters Sanjay Dutt on one side and Irfan at the other. Nevertheless it is a good experiment by director Mani Shankar and has Sanju Baba in his ever popular style and Irfan Khan giving his splendid best. Kangana Ranaut acts as a press reporter. Knock Out is thought provoking and a thriller but looses its grip in between. Actors possessing huge caliber like Irfan Khan are seen strip teasing at the phone booth. He is shouting, dancing but could not deliver what was expected of him and this is primarily because the script is such. With due respect to the actor, the film might have turned out well but nevertheless it can be watched once.

Unveiling horror of honour killings

hree college students disappear in a remote village dominated by caste politics. An army officer, Ajay Devgan, and a CBI officer, Akshaye Khanna, are sent to investigate the high profile case which has become a burning national issue. They discover it's a case of honour killing but must lock horns with the local opposition -- corrupt cops, goons and netas -- before they can hope for closure. Priyadarshan takes a break from his staple diet of comedies and moves to serious territory with Aakrosh. ner, Kanjeevaram. In Aakrosh, he goes topical with his attempts to unveil the horror of the recent spate of honour killings, which have relentlessly made headlines. The disappearance of the three college boys in the small hamlet is linked with a love affair that goes sour due to the insurmountable caste barriers that govern social life in this not-so-distant terrain. What follows is a deafening culture of silence and a brutal cover up where anybody who dares to speak up is summarily done away with by the caretakers: the cops, headed by Paresh Rawal, the local ruffians and the politicians.

AJAY DEVGN'S little bundle of joy, Yug, was born during the auspicious Ganesh Festival. The actor is proud to become a father for the second time. "It is a great feeling. Yug means an era," he smiles. On the career front, Ajay already has had three hits this year and three of his forthcoming films look very promising. "You could say that. Atithi... Tum Kab Jaaoge? was a comedy, Raajneeti, a political thriller and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, a crime drama. Aakrosh, an action film, has been released. Two more being released in the next two months are Golmaal 3, a comedy, and then Toonpur Ka Superhero, a live-animation film. Look at the variety! Doing different things all the time keeps me going," says the powerhouse performer. Looking dapper in a T-shirt that says 'Not Made For Love' and funky dark shades, he admits that even the audiences expect him to do diverse roles. But isn't it quite a task doing six films in a year? He grins and says, "Shooting is not tiring but promoting the film is." He recalls that this is the second time that six of his films are being released in a year. "I think it was in 2003 that six of my films Company, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh, Deewangee, Qayamat, Bhoot and Chori Chori were released," he says. Meanwhile, he has been so tied up with his own work that he is yet to see his wife, actress Kajol's two releases this year My Name Is Khan and We Are Family. He admits candidly that it may be some time before he can actually get down to watching these films, as he starts work on Rajkumar Santoshi's Power and Priyadarshan's Tez in the coming days. Ajay is quite excited about Aakrosh as it is an action film, his favourite genre. It is also the first time that he is working with Priyadarshan. He says that Priyan should do more of action films. "I have seen his work in Virasat, Gardish, Sazaae-Kaala Pani and even some of his South Indian films. He is fabulous. While comedy has worked for him, I think action is his forte. He has a tremendous sense of cinema and understands the nuances of action, aggression and emotion," says the actor, who plays an Army officer and a Dalit in the film. He is sent to a village on special duty after three youth go missing. Aakrosh is a topical film based on the rampant honour-killings in Northern India. Ajay says that he did a lot of research for his role by reading up the subject in daily newspapers. But he found the script, written by Robin Bhatt and his team, very impressive. Deeply affected by the issue, the actor wonders why such things are allowed to happen in this day and age 'when India is progressing so well in all quarters'. After Deewangee, that was released in 2002, Ajay teams up with Akshaye Khanna again in Aakrosh. The actor recalls that it was like old times and they hit it off instantly. After the outand-out comedy All The Best, Ajay will also be seen with Bipasha Basu in this action thriller. "In All The Best, she was a glamorous girl while in Aakrosh, she has gone de-glam. But she seemed very comfortable in Indian attire," smiles Ajay. He is also all praise for Paresh Rawal, who plays a villain in the film. "Paresh is a spontaneous actor. INGREDIENTS Parwals, peeled, slit and seeded 250 grams Mawa (khoya) 1 cup Sugar 1 1/2 cups Green cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon Almonds, chopped 10 Pistachios, chopped 10 Milk powder 2 tablespoons Soda bicarbonate a pinch Saffron (kesar) a few strands Silver warq to decorate

METHOD

A unique mithai of parwal with the stuffing of khoya in it. • Preparation Time : 10-15 minutes • Cooking Time : 10-15 minutes • Servings : 4

To make the stuffing roast the khoya on medium heat till it becomes soft. Add half cup sugar and continue to roast. In another pan boil the remaining sugar with one cup water to make a thin sugar syrup. Add green cardamom powder to the khoya and mix. Take it off the heat and add almonds and pistachios and mix. Add milk powder and mix well. Transfer the mixture onto a plate and cool. Heat water in a deep pan, add a pinch of soda bicarbonate and the parwals and boil for two to three minutes. Drain and put them in the sugar syrup and cook till they soften. Drain and cool. Stuff them with the khoya mixture. Sprinkle a few saffron strands over each parwal and decorate with silver warq. INGREDIENTS Strawberries 14 Long grain rice, cooked 1 cup Sugar 2 tablespoons Cream cheese 2 tablespoons Cream 1/2 cup Eggs 2 Brown sugar 2 tablespoons

METHOD Preheat the oven to 180 oC. Chop ten strawberries roughly and put in the mixer jar. Add sugar, cream cheese and cream and puree Add eggs and blend again. Divide the rice between four ramekin moulds. Pour the strawberry mixture over. Sprinkle the brown sugar equally on top in each mould. Cover with the lid and place in a tray with a little water in it.
