Meet Me in St. Louis
The Lou. STL. The Gateway City. Call it what you want, but be sure to add St. Louis, Missouri’s second largest city, to your bucket list of places you must visit in the US. Founded in 1764, St. Louis sits on the banks of the Mississippi River, which also creates part of the border between Missouri and Illinois. The city is home to 4 professional sports leagues, 7 Fortune 500 companies and the world’s tallest arch, a famous city landmark.
St. Louis, named for King Louis IX, is a must-visit destination for all. Perhaps best known for beer (Anheuser-Busch started in St. Louis in the 1850s) and baseball (the St. Louis Cardinals have won 11 World Series, the second-most, behind the New York Yankees), St. Louis also boasts the most free attractions in the US for visitors from around the globe outside of Washington D.C. Whether you want to spend a day perusing museums or strolling through the zoo, you can do it for free in the STL. So the next time your travels take you to the Midwest, check out all the reasons you need to say “Show Me!” to the Show Me State’s second-largest city.
The Gateway Arch - Travel 630 feet up to the top of the tallest monument in the United States. After you take in the views, check out the Museum at the Gateway Arch, which will give you insight into the history of St. Louis. You can also book a river cruise along the Mighty Mississippi that will enhance your experience near the arch. So many fun things to do in one area, what will you do first?
(of the Ozarks)
Escape to central Missouri for a relaxing, unforgettable getaway at the Lake of the Ozarks
If the lake is your happy place, you’ll be on cloud nine at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Lake of the Ozarks officially opened to boats in 1931 and was, at the time, the largest man-made lake in the United States. Roughly shaped like a dragon when viewed from above, Lake of the Ozarks has almost 1,200 miles of shoreline that offers up fun year-round. From boating to hiking and wine tasting to days at the beach, you’ll never run out of things to do at the Lake of the Ozarks.
There are many reasons to plan a trip to central Missouri to visit the Lake of the Ozarks, but the biggest draw to the area is undoubtedly the lake itself. There are so many ways to enjoy the water, whether you like to fish, boat, jet ski, hang at the beach, pull up to a lakeside restaurant- the ways to have fun at the lake are seemingly endless. The Ozarks is such a fun spot that popular TV show Ozark takes place in the area, even if most of the filming is done in Georgia. Whether you’re traveling in a big group or solo, with kids or without, you’re sure to have a fun vacation you won’t soon forget when you visit the unforgettable Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

KANSAS CITY: VISITING THE HEART OF AMERICA
Despite its misleading name (nope, Kansas City isn’t in Kansas), this Missouri town is an ideal destination for travelers. Believe it or not, Kansas City isn’t just the home of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend (although he allegedly lives in popular Leawood). Kansas City, sometimes called KCMO, is Missouri’s largest city and one of the top 50 largest in the United States. It straddles the Missouri/Kansas border where the Missouri River meets the Kansas River and was incorporated in 1853 (although it wasn’t officially called Kansas City until 1889). Today it is known largely for its sports franchises, baseball’s Kansas City Royals and football’s Kansas City Chiefs, as well as its popular unique brand of barbeque. Named one of the top travel destinations for 2024 by Lonely Planet (and one of only two US cities to make the list!), Kansas City is not only a spot to have fun and explore, it is also a place where your money can go further. The Midwest can sometimes be overshadowed by the popular cities on both the East and West Coasts of the United States, but, because is easy to access from anywhere in the country and typically comes with an affordable price tag, it shouldn’t be forgotten. Kansas City is overflowing with exciting reasons it should be top of your travel list for 2024.
Must-see attractions in Kansas City, Missouri
Pennway Point - “An urban playground for every season,” Pennway Point is a downtown KC destination for family-friendly fun. View the Kansas City skyline from the KC Wheel, stroll through the LUMI Neon Museum to see restored vintage neon signs or grab a bite to eat (KC BBQ, anyone?) at one of the eateries at this reclaimed industrial property that promises yearround fun to locals and tourists alike.
The Rabbit Hole - The first of its kind in the United States, the Rabbit Hole is a three-story multisensory experience that brings children’s literature to life for kids of all ages. Explore immersive experiences featuring some of the most beloved characters who have been enjoyed by generations of children. This spot also features a makerspace, a bookstore and more.
Berkley Riverfront & Kansas City Current - Kansas City made history when it opened the first sports venue in the world dedicated entirely to women’s sports. It is now the home to the Kansas City Current, a National Women’s Soccer League team. After you watch the women dominate in this riverfront stadium, you can stroll along the waterfront on one of the many pedestrianfriendly trails, taking in the sights and sounds of big city life in Missouri.
