About CMA (Cost Management Accounting) Cost and Management Accountant (CMA) is a professional certification credential within management accounting and financial management. The certification vouches for the person’s skillset surrounding monetary planning, analysis, control, decision support, and professional ethics. The Institute of Cost Accountants of India conducts the CMA exam, and it works toward regulating and promoting the CMA profession in India. The CMA course was called the ICWA course in the past. This name change occurred when the ICWAI (Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India) changed its name to the ICMAI (Institute of Cost Accountants of India). Therefore, if you hear the terms ICWA and ICWAI, know that they are used interchangeably with CMA and ICMAI, respectively.
Levels of CMA certification There are three levels for the CMA certification as mentioned below – 1. CMA Foundation 2. CMA Intermediate or CMA Inter 3. CMA Final The course gets generally completed in 3-4 years.
