Women’s Soccer Wins Third Straight SUNYAC Crown Men’s Soccer Reaches Ten Wins For Third Straight Year Women’s Soccer Earns Third Consecutive NCAA Berth The women’s soccer team proved that there would be no stopping them in the post-Liz McGrail era as they continued their dominance in the SUNYAC en route to their third consecutive title. They ended the season undefeated in conference play for the third straight year while extending their regular season and overall SUNYAC winning streaks in the process. The Red Dragons currently have won 35 straight regular season games in the SUNYAC and 36 straight overall including the last three conference tournaments. The 2001 season opened at the University of Rochester tournament where Oneonta dropped two 1-0 games to Keene State and Eastern Connecticut State. The initial win of the fall came the following weekend in the opening game of the Mayor’s Cup Tournament at Hartwick against Western New England College. Two second half goals, including sophomore Megan Conboy’s (Rocky Point, NY/ Rocky Point) first collegiate goal, catapulted them to a 2-0 win over the Golden Bears. The next day Oneonta would face the defending National Champions in the College of New Jersey to decide this year’s champion of the Mayor’s Cup. The Lions scored two early goals and then shut down the Oneonta attack en route to the shut out victory. The loss against TCNJ was the last one for a while as the Red Dragons ran off 18 straight including their two wins in the SUNYAC Tournament to earn a trip (continued, pg. 2, col. 1)

NEW SOCCER FIELD DEDICATED

On September 8, 2001, The College at Oneonta dedicated the brand new soccer field that was completed in August. Shown here is President Donovan along with state, local and college dignitaries as they cut the ribbon to officially open Red Dragon Soccer Field. The opening game on the new field was the Oneonta State men versus West Virginia University and the attendance for the game was nearly 1,000 people.
