15K THE UTICA BOILERMAKER IS ONE OF THE LARGEST 15K (9.3 MILES) ROAD RACES IN THE COUNTRY WITH MORE THAN 11,000 FINISHERS IN 2013.
Craft beverages aren’t the city’s only praiseworthy consumable. Visitors flock to Utica for its cuisine. The city’s unique character – defined by rich history, agriculture, and diversity – is reflected in hundreds of ethnic and American eateries. Farmers and artisans gather to sell produce and goods at the Oneida County Public Market. Those with a passion for physical activity and the outdoors will enjoy golf at Valley View, the Val Bialas ski area, Proctor park, and the nearby Adirondack Park. On the second Sunday in July, more than 18,500 runners from around the globe convene for
the Utica Boilermaker Road Race. The entire city celebrates with a giant postrace party at the F. X. Matt Brewery. A rt aficionados can view the exceptional collections at the MunsonWilliams-Proctor Museum of Art, peruse the works at Sculpture Space, or see a Broadway show at the Stanley. In September, the Utica Music & Arts Fest takes center stage with over 100 bands playing venues all over the city. While in town, check out the Utica Zoo, the Children’s Museum, a Utica Comets hockey game, and discover a Renaissance City for all ages.

Rome is the perfect place to spend a weekend immersed in history, nature, and culture. Both adults and children will enjoy the various activities available in this city on the Mohawk River. Rome’s history began with the building of a fortified trading post on one of the most important North American transportation routes, the Oneida Carry. Located in Iroquois territory, Fort Stanwix was erected in 1758 to protect traders during the French and Indian War, and hosted the Continental Army during the Revolution. surrendered” for repelling a prolonged siege in 1777, modern day visitors can see, touch, and feel this significant piece of the American past at Rome’s Fort Stanwix National Monument. Just six miles away, the Oriskany Battlefield serves as an awe-inspiring reminder of one of the Revolutionary War’s most deadly and pivotal engagements. At Erie Canal Village, visitors can tour authentic 19th century canal town and interact with period characters. Nature lovers – with or without children – will enjoy Delta Lake State Park, the trails at the Rome Sand Plains, and learn how millions of trout are raised at the Rome Fish Hatchery. Fort Rickey Children's Discovery Zoo provides an interactive experience where visitors can meet, pet, and feed a wide variety of animals. The Annual Honor America Days Celebration
Rome's biggest day of the year is always the last Saturday in July!
You're invited on July 26 to join the fun at the Honor America Days Parade and, later that evening, the Honor America Days Pops Concert on the west lawn at Fort Stanwix National Monument. The concert is followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
When in Rome, guests can discover diverse restaurants, live shows and film festivals at the historic Capitol Theatre, dinner entertainment at the Beeches, and the World Series of Bocce. Celebrate summertime fun with the annual Honor American Days celebration in July, and in August experience Canalfest at Bellamy Harbor Park – with rides, music, fireworks and a unique 5K run & 2K kayak event. More than 31 miles (50km) in length, the BREIA trails offer one of the largest groomed cross country ski systems in the East. During the warmer months, enjoy Boonville’s wilderness and old-fashioned charm, as well as the Black River Canal Museum. Looking to get away to small town life? Spend some time in the Queen Village of Camden, touring the Carriage House Museum, visiting Mystic Stamp, or picnicking in Forest Park, 117 acres perfect for biking, running, or walking. The legendary Harden Furniture showroom is just a few miles away. The North Country also has a rich history to explore, such as Revolutionary War hero Baron von Steuben’s home, and heritage celebrations like the New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days held in August and Remsen Barn

Picturesque Villages & Farms with Historic Charm Step out of the daily hustle and bustle and get away to the quaint and inviting Southern Hills of Oneida Cou nty. Bordered on the south by Route 20’s Scenic Byway, this area is an ideal place to slow down and unwind. In the lovely village of Clinton, stay at one of many charming bed and breakfasts. Peruse a delightful array of locally-owned artisan shops, specialty boutiques, restaurants, and cafés. Take a garden stroll or nature walk in the beautiful Root Glen on the campus of Hamilton College. The glen contains some 65 species of trees, dozens of shrubs, and scores of varieties of flowers. In autumn, enjoy freshpressed cider and house-baked donuts and pies at the Clinton Cider Mill. If you’re planning a weekend getaway in warm-weather months, be sure to arrive by mid-day Thursday so you
can visit the Clinton farmers’ market on the village green. In September, check out Cruisin' Into Waterville with entertainment for all ages. A huge classic car, motorcycle and tractor parade, craft fair, BBQ cookout, and chili cook-off. Travelers in search of the freshest food products can visit old-fashioned farmers’ markets, and tour dairy and produce farms. You can pick apples, pumpkins, strawberries, blueberries, and other seasonally available fruits and veggies in the Southern Hills. If a weekend immersed in history is your ideal getaway, Oneida County is the perfect destination. Located at the convergence of many important travel routes, an extraordinarily diverse amount of significant history happened here. In Rome, visitors can tour Fort Stanwix National Monument. Known as “the fort that never surrendered” for successfully thwarting an intense siege in 1777, Stanwix was built to protect traders during the French and Indian War and was also used during the Revolutionary War. Just six miles away at the Oriskany Battlefield, gaze upon the site of one of the Revolutionary War’s most deadly battles. Considered by many to be a critical turning point in the War, hundreds of brave soldiers lost their lives in Oriskany, fighting for American independence. In Sherrill, the Oneida Community Mansion House offers an intriguing tour that lends insight into a mysterious utopian community that endured for decades – even though marriage was not allowed.
The building of the Erie Canal sparked countless cultural and commercial developments throughout the state. Digging began in Rome on July 4, 1817, and today travelers can visit that ground-breaking site, and tour authentic 19th-century structures at the Erie Canal Village. With more than 500 miles (804km) of trails, it’s the perfect destination for snowmobiling and snowshoeing. The fact that twelve Snowmobile Clubs exist throughout the county speaks for the quality of the experience. A cross country skier’s paradise, the BREIA Trails are more than 31 miles (50km) in length, making them
one of the largest groomed cross country ski systems in the East. If downhill is more your style, visitors of all ages can ski – or tube – down the slopes at Woods Valley or Val Bialas Sports Center. At the Utica Aud, cheer on the Utica Comets pro hockey team or the Utica College Hockey team. There are also many arenas available for those who wish to play hockey or skate. Interested in curling?
