The University of Canberra Research Institute for Sport and Exercise (UCRISE) is a research and innovation institute established in 2014. Combining six research themes , the institute was created to support the University's sporting aspirations through strategic planning and leadership, the co-ordination of sport-related research projects involving both staff and students, consultancy across the University, and development of external partnerships.
The University of Canberra Hospital (UCH): Specialist Centre for Rehabilitation, Recovery and Research is the largest purpose-built rehabilitation centre in the ACT and surrounding region, with capacity for 140 inpatient beds, 75-day places and additional outpatient services.
UCH features dedicated therapy spaces, including a hydrotherapy pool, therapeutic gyms, and kitchens to promote independence. There are also outdoor spaces, including a rehabilitation courtyard and recreational areas.
Students studying in the Faculty of Health will have classes in the new state-of-the-art Clinical Education and Research Centre (CERC) – the University's shared teaching and research space at the hospital.
Our sporting facilities are being developed on campus to help the University become one of Australia's leading tertiary sports institutions in scholarships and research.
Facilities located within the Sporting Commons include gymnasiums, medical and rehabilitation areas, plunge pools, a sauna, a main oval and skills field, and a purposebuilt bocce court for Special Olympics ACT.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is central in our approach to education, and something we strive to include in all of our undergraduate courses. Through a variety of different programs and opportunities, WIL is designed to help students boost their employability by getting out of the classroom and into real world workplaces.
WIL Project, or activity that engages individuals or teams to respond to a real-world problem or opportunity under the guidance of the faculty and client, or the faculty.
Placements or internships involve work experience (that takes place at the workplace) under the supervision of the faculty and the workplace supervisor.
Simulation, which can be a project or activity, involves authentic work experience that is undertaken in a simulated work environment, under the guidance of a supervisor. Simulation may be in the physical environment or virtual.
Field work is an approved activity that involves observing, collating information and/ or collecting data/ specimens.
Expenses may be payable to cover costs associated with training and checks for internships and placements, uniforms or personal safety equipment, travel and relocation to placement site.

The Advanced Engineering Lab is a state-ofthe- engineering teaching space. Designed for flexible teaching of both Robotics and IoT, it provides students with a high-tech, modern learning experience. Opening onto a large deck, the space allows a combined indoor/outdoor experience with room to test and learn both wheeled and air drones.
Equipped with high-powered PC’s and specialist software, this multipurpose computer laboratory has been specifically created to help students learn mobile technology, games, programming, natural user interface, networking, cyber security and robotics.

UC’s brand new Network Engineering and Cyber Security Lab gives students real, hands-on experience with industry-grade network equipment. With it’s own isolated network, students can simulate real-world networking, server and cyber security scenarios, all while understanding the inner workings of an organisation’s networking infrastructure.
UC has partnered with Cisco to provide industry and government with access to world-class research opportunities via the Innovation Central Canberra (ICC). This partnership provides an avenue for collaboration and connection between education and industry and has led to some incredible internship opportunities for our students.
UC, ACT Government and NetApp have teamed up to launch a regional hub for open source innovation, education and research – the Open Source Institute (OpenSI). The Institute undertakes deep research into open source technologies and provide practical work experience opportunities for our technology students.
