The design sought to create the same comfort and feeling of spaciousness to which people are accustomed in larger homes, while optimising the use of the space available. The apartment is more akin to the image of the bachelor pad, compact, functional, but easy to maintain.

The home integrates the very best aspects of small spaces with Hong Kong history. All furnishings have multiple uses highlighting the apartment’s proportions, while modernizing and opening up the living and entertaining areas.

Con este diseño se buscó crear el confort y la sensación de amplitud que sentimos en viviendas más grandes, a la vez que se optimiza el espacio disponible.

El apartamento se asemeja más a un piso de soltero: compacto, funcional y de fácil mantenimiento.

La casa integra lo mejor de los espacios pequeños con la historia de Hong Kong. Todo el mobiliario tiene múltiples usos destacando las proporciones del apartamento, y al mismo tiempo modernizándolo y abriéndolo a las zonas comunes y de ocio.

A raised platform accommodates the bed, complete with storage beneath. This type of bed, also known as captain’s bed, takes cue from the beds used on board ships, where space is valuable and a regular bed is impractical.

En una plataforma elevada se encuentra la cama, que contiene espacio de almacenamiento en su interior. Este tipo de cama tiene su origen en los camarotes de los capitanes de barcos, donde el espacio es valioso y una cama tradicional poco prĂĄctica.

A wooden “pod” was inserted into an open space to address the issues of privacy, storage and a lack of living space inherent to small apartments. The low cost and sturdy structure features full height, wall-towall sliding doors, and accommodates an entry foyer, storage, washing and sleeping zones.

The design of the kitchen block appears as an extension of the pod. Inner workings are totally concealed. Space limitations discouraged the use of conventional kitchen drawers.

Los apartamentos pequeños suelen carecer de espacio de almacenamiento, zona de estar, e incluso privacidad.

Para dar respuesta a estos problemas inherentes a los pequeños espacios, en este proyecto se usó un “contenedor” de madera. Esta robusta estructura de bajo coste se caracteriza por su altura completa, puertas correderas de lado a lado y por albergar una entrada, zona de almacenamiento, dormitorio y zona de aseo.

Por su diseño, el módulo de la cocina parece una extensión del contenedor. El funcionamiento interno está completamente oculto. Se evitó el uso de los tradicionales cajones de cocina por la limitación de espacio.

The renovation of a small apartment was aimed at creating a living space as open as possible, but with various areas of different functions. The solution was an L-shape wooden wall that generates different areas while maintaining the open character of the apartment, and at the same time, offering various storage and seating solutions.

The L-shape wooden wall is conceived as a multifunctional large piece of furniture. As such, it is separate from the pre-existing concrete and plaster shell of the apartment. Because of its central position, its surfaces provide each of the areas around it with the required storage and seating requisites.

Additional pieces of furniture along the perimeter of the apartment offer the specific support for each of the functions of the household, as the kitchen cooking area and the vanity.

La renovación del pequeño apartamento tenía como objetivo crear un espacio lo más abierto posible, pero con diversas áreas funcionales. La solución fue una pared de madera en forma de L que crea diferentes estancias que, al mismo tiempo, permite mantener el carácter abierto del apartamento con espacios de almacenaje y reposo.

La pared de madera en forma de L se concibe como un gran mueble multifuncional. Es independiente de la carcasa de hormigón y yeso que ya existía en la vivienda.

Dada la posición central de la pared, sus superficies proporcionan los requisitos de almacenamiento y reposo que se pretendían en todas las estancias que la rodean.

Los muebles adicionales colocados a lo largo del perímetro del apartamento sirven de apoyo a cada una de las funciones propias del hogar, como son la zona de cocinar y el tocador.
