An etched glass staircase leading to the light escalera de baldosa grabada conduce a la luz Barcelona, 2004-2005 The owners decided to change from an enormous but dark apartment in the Barcelona Eixample for a penthouse apartment which had much more light and terraces to enjoy the fresh air. With this criteria, the interior walls of the apartment were knocked down, leaving only the central nucleus in tact, which coincided with the building’s service elevator (which reached the old kitchen).

This pieces was used, without closing off any of the spaces, to define the vestibule, hide the kitchen, and support the blackboard mother and daughter use to do homework on, plus allow for cross relationships between the dining room and rest of the “daytime zone”. The two bedrooms and bathrooms remain on the other side of the apartment. Above, the old loft space is connected to the dwelling and used not only as the library study, but also as a light shaft over the glass staircase.

Los propietarios decidieron cambiar un piso enorme, pero oscuro, en el Ensanche barcelonés, por un ático que tuviera más luz y terrazas en las que disfrutan del aire libre. Con ese criterio se derribaron las paredes del apartamento, dejando como único núcleo exento el que coincide con el ascensor de servicio de la finca (que entraba hasta la antigua cocina) haciéndole servir de pieza que, sin cerrar ninguno de los ambientes, define el vestíbulo de acceso, oculta la cocina, sirve de soporte a la pizarra donde madre e hija hacen los deberes de ésta y permite relaciones cruzadas entre el salón comedor y el resto de la “zona de día”. Las dos habitaciones y los baños quedan del otro lado de la planta. Arriba, el antiguo trastero, se comunica con la vivienda pasando a ser no sólo el estudio biblioteca, sino un pozo de luz sobre la escalera de cristal.

A translucent floor that rises suelo traslúcido que se levanta Terrassa, Barcelona

A restricted tendering that did not come to pass for a brand new 35,000-m2 building. The complex was divided into a building understood to be part of the topography (the ground rises and forms the translucent alabaster facades) that would serve as a background to the “crown jewel”, the flagship, a 3,600 m2 signature building only supported by four “tree pillars” and that projected, on the ground floor and in real time, images of all the casinos and entertainment complexes the company owns all over the world. How the program was articulated, camouflaging a large-volume building while highlighting the other, speaks volumes of the how value is represented in architecture.The slope of the terrain was used, breaking it to create a fault line that would provide access to both building areas.The computer center was placed below the square’s exterior space (illuminated by zenithal light shaft) and above the two floors used for parking.

Concurso restringido no fallado finalmente, de un edificio de 35.000 m2 de nueva planta. El complejo se dividió en un edificio casi entendido como topografía (el suelo se levanta y configura las fachadas traslúcidas de alabastro) que servía de telón de fondo a la “joya de la corona”, al buque insignia, un edificio representativo de 3.600 m2 apenas aguantado por cuatro “pilares árbol” y que proyecta, en la planta baja y en tiempo real, imágenes de todos los casinos y centros de ocio en el mundo que tiene la compañía. Cómo se articula el programa, camuflando un edificio de gran volumetría y potenciando el otro habla del valor de la representatividad en la arquitectura. Se utiliza la pendiente del terreno para, arrompiéndola, crear una falla por la que se produce el acceso a ambos recintos.

El centro de cálculo se dispone bajo el espacio exterior de la plaza (iluminado por patios de luces cenitales) sobre las dos plantas con uso de aparcamiento.

Taking advantage of the unevenness of the parcel, a fold was made to define a lower access level and roof above, below which was located the entire computer area.

Aprovechando el desnivel de la parcela se hace un pliegue y se define la cota de acceso más baja y la cubierta superior, bajo la cual se sitúa toda la sala de informática.

The pavilion is an annex to an existing home and consists of a bottom volume, where the owner’s car collection was kept, and the pavilion, in every sense of the word, to throw parties or watch films as a family.

The pavilion has an open floor plan; a bathroom and kitchenette are closed off to one of the smaller sides, leaving the rest as a single space. The pavilion has two blank facades, lined in green slate, while other two sides open from floor to ceiling onto the garden and pool. Originally it was planned to build the blank walls of 30 cm thick glass, siliconed along its face, which would have given the entire pavilion an incorporeal appearance through the different glass applications.

El pabellón es un anexo a una vivienda existente y consta de un cuerpo bajo, en el que guardar parte de la colección de coches del propietario, y del pabellón, propiamente dicho, para hacer fiestas o ver cine en compañía de la familia. El pabellón tiene planta libre: un aseo y una kitchenette cierran uno de sus lados menores, dejando el resto como un único espacio. El pabellón tiene dos de sus fachadas ciegas, forradas en pizarra verde, mientras se abre, en sus otras dos, de suelo a techo, al jardín y la piscina. Originalmente estaba previsto que las paredes ciegas fueran construidas en cristal siliconado a cara, de 30 cms. de espesor, lo que daba a todo el pabellón un aspecto incorpóreo, con la utilización de distintas aplicaciones del cristal.

A former penthouse that was completely demolished to rebuild the new apartment where we would highlight the large living room and kitchen space, in front of which was placed a glass volume that will act as a dining area, in replace of the one that existed. The bedrooms remain on the other side; the ones for the future children sharing a bathroom, in the background, and the main bedroom with its closet and private bathroom, generating an entire complex system of transparencies and visual connections (the true luxury is always the space itself). The wall separating the shower is a piece of stacked glass, while I recall in a version of another project that never saw the light (sometimes ideas jump from one project to another) that the master bath was finished using slabs of slate, in reference to the ancient baths of Mexican cenotes. Diagonal views are emphasized throughout the house, as is its relationship with the exterior.

Antiguo ático que se derriba en su totalidad para replantear una nueva vivienda, en la que destacaríamos la gran pieza de salón y cocina, a la que se le antepone un cuerpo acristalado que hará las veces de comedor, en sustitución del que ya existía. Los dormitorios quedan del otro lado, los de los futuros niños compartiendo baño, al fondo, y el dormitorio principal con su vestidor y baño privado, generando todo un complejo sistema de transparencias y conexiones visuales (el verdadero lujo es siempre el espacio). Mientras la pared que separara la ducha es una pieza de cristales apilados, recuerdo de una versión de otro proyecto que no llegara a ver la luz (a veces las ideas saltan de unos a otros), el revestimiento del baño principal lo conforman lajas de pizarra en recuerdo de los antiguos baños en los cenotes mejicanos. Se potencian las vistas en diagonal a través de toda la casa y la relación con el exterior.

Glass building edificio en cristal Barcelona, 2010-2013

Renovation without a change in use of an old office building, which once was two, at the cross streets of Travesera de Gràcia-Amigó. Both buildings have separate entrances, although they share the same four-floor underground parking garage. As the buildings will be used as rented office space (each user will make their own implementation according to their needs) the most important effort focused on transforming the street facade, to which we proposed a 20-cm solid glass skin weighing 3 tons / lm that generated different degrees of transparencies in the building’s interior.

Different steel wings spread across the facade as if they were the building’s veins, jumping from floor to floor to dematerialize the very idea of the building, as understood by the superposition of horizontal work planes that are illuminated at night by a system of LEDs.

Ground and standard floors, and images of the current buildings (the facade was enclosed by prefabricated plastic paneling that simulates stone or concrete, so as not to overload the structure).

Reforma de un antiguo edificio de oficinas, que de hecho son dos, en el cruce de Travesera de Gràcia-Amigó, sin cambio de uso. Ambos edificios disponen de accesos independientes por más que comparten un mismo parking subterráneo de cuatro plantas. Como el edificio se usará como oficinas de alquiler (cada usuario se hará su propia implantación, acorde a sus necesidades) el esfuerzo más importante se concentra en la transformación de la fachada a la calle, para la cual proponemos una piel de cristal en masa de 20 cms y 3 toneladas /ml que generará diversos grados de transparencias en el interior del edificio. Diversas alas metálicas recorren la fachada como si se tratase de las venas del edificio saltando de planta en planta, para desmaterializar la idea del edificio, entendido como superposición de planos horizontales de trabajo y se iluminarán, de noche, por un sistema de leds.
