Sobre arquitectura y estructura On architecture and structure Las obras de arquitectura, en general, se organizan de una forma jerárquica y estructurada, lo que permite ordenar espacios y elementos de acuerdo con su importancia y también con su significado. En las obras anteriores al movimiento moderno, la jerarquía resulta más visible, sobre todo en lo que se refiere al significado de los espacios. La jerarquía, junto a la armonía, la luz, la proporción e incluso el ornamento, contribuyen a la belleza característica de los espacios, aunque, a partir de la arquitectura moderna el ornamento carece del papel protagonista de otros tiempos. Una inadvertida ley económica afirma que cada nuevo ciclo de expansión viene anunciado por un nuevo estilo arquitectónico, cultivado en los invernaderos de las universidades o de los propios estudios de arquitectura, pero que florece gracias a las brisas primaverales del optimismo económico y político. Filigranas tecnológicas y materiales sofisticados se transforman en un proceso de innovación como poesía y variación como pretexto. Podríamos preguntarnos si estas nuevas actitudes se oponen a valores permanentes en la arquitectura: los que alimentan la necesaria habitabilidad que debe acoger al ser humano, aquellos que están dotados de una cualidad que permite dotar de alma los espacios habitables. Esta necesaria estructura del espacio arquitectónico cobra especial interés en el diseño correspondiente a los llamados “espacios de trabajo”, en los que la funcionalidad y la estética deben convivir con otros principios básicos como son la comodidad, la puntual necesidad de relajación y la obligada transmisión de valores, al servicio de una “identidad de marca”, forjada en la gestión material del espacio, hoy matizada por la aparición del concepto de “coworking”. Esta nueva fórmula de ocupación del espacio laboral, consecuencia en buena parte de circunstancias económicas formuladas tanto desde el aprovechamiento del espacio como desde decididas lecturas del concepto de sostenibilidad, supone una novedosa fórmula de ocupación de los espacios laborales. En este número de On Diseño se ha llevado a cabo una selección de aquellas obras más recientes de arquitectura e interiorismo que permiten al lector descifrar las claves del actual diseño destinado al mundo del trabajo en los marcos empresarial e institucional.

In general, works of architecture are organised in a hierarchical and structured manner so that spaces and elements are arranged according to their importance and also their significance. In the works that preceded the modern movement, the hierarchy is more visible, particularly as regards the significance of the spaces. Hierarchy, together with harmony, light, proportion and even ornament, contribute to the characteristic beauty of a space, although after the advent of modern architecture ornament lacks the central role it played in former times. An unobserved economic law states that each new expansion cycle is announced by a new architectural style, cultivated in the hothouses of universities or in architecture practices but flowering thanks to the spring breezes of economic and political optimism. Technological filigrees and sophisticated materials are transformed in a process of innovation like poetry, with variation as a pretext. We could ask ourselves whether these new attitudes are opposed to permanent values in architecture: those that feed the necessary habitability that must shelter human beings, those that are endowed with a quality that fills habitable spaces with soul. This necessary structuring of the architectural space acquires special interest in the design of what we call “workspaces”, where functionality and aesthetics have to coexist with other basic principles such as comfort and convenience, the occasional need for relaxation and the mandatory transmission of values at the service of a “brand identity” forged in the material management of the space, today nuanced by the emergence of the “coworking” concept. This new formula for occupying the working space, to a large extent the consequence of economic circumstances formulated by the need to make the most of the available space as well as by a decided reading of the concept of sustainability, represents a novel formula for workspace occupation. In this issue of On Diseño we feature a selection of recently-built works of architecture and interior design that allow the reader to decipher the codes of today’s workspace design in a business and institutional environment. 13

Subimos las escaleras de la Casa Sayrach, en pleno Eixample barcelonés, hasta la planta principal, donde se halla la sede del despacho de arquitectura External Reference. Nos recibe Carmelo Zappulla, su fundador y director ejecutivo. La carta de presentación la tenemos con tan solo atravesar el umbral, dado que los muebles escultóricos del despacho, con sus formas orgánicas (en línea con el edificio modernista que los acoge) e impresos en 3D, han sido diseñados por el equipo de ocho profesionales que componen este estudio internacional especializado en diseño arquitectónico, interiorismo, diseño industrial, intervenciones urbanas e instalaciones artísticas y expositivas. La convocatoria de prensa es para presentar sus últimos proyectos —entre los que destacamos la tienda Moritz M-Store y el restaurante Alkimia, ambos en Barcelona, y “The Clockwork”, la tienda insignia de la marca 24 Kilates en Bangkok— así como para anunciar que, en colaboración con Onionlab, llevarán a cabo el diseño expositivo del Pabellón español para la Exposición Universal de Dubái de 2020, organizado por AC/E. Con sus 2.000m2, el pabellón tendrá la sostenibilidad y la economía circular como ejes principales. La propuesta se repartirá en dos espacios: una planta baja ocupada por varias plazas , plataformas de diálogo entre la historia de España y el mundo árabe a partir de elementos como el ajedrez y las celosías arquitectónicas, y un bosque tecnológico en la planta inferior. Este bosque, denominado “El Bosque de

la Inteligencia”, ilustrará la importancia del patrimonio natural español. Asimismo, mediante elementos museísticos, desgranará diversos proyectos españoles desarrollados en pro de la sostenibilidad, una iniciativa que servirá para promocionar empresas, actividades e iniciativas punteras en ámbitos como la biotecnología y la innovación tecnológica, abordando temáticas como la alimentación, las ciudades inteligentes y la generación de nuevas energías. Una de las características más destacadas de este bosque es que, aunque será artificial, producirá oxígeno en tiempo real a partir de los materiales y fotobiorreactores que lo conforman. —

External Reference signs the exhibition design for the Spanish Pavilionfor Expo 2020. We climb the stairs of Casa Sayrach, in the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample district, to the principal floor, which contains the offices of the External Reference architecture practice. We are welcomed by Carmelo Zappulla, its founder and executive director. We have a taster as soon as we cross the threshold, given that the office’s sculptural furniture, with its 3D-printed organic shapes (in line with the modernist building that houses them), were designed by the team of eight professionals who comprise this international practice specialising in architectural design, interior decoration, industrial design, urban interventions and artistic and exhibition installations. The press call is for presenting their latest projects—prominent among them the Moritz

M-Store and Alkimia restaurant, both in Barcelona, and “The Clockwork”, the flagship store of the 24 Kilates brand in Bangkok— and to announce that, in collaboration with Onionlab, they will do the exhibition design for the Spanish Pavilion at the Dubai Universal Exposition in 2020, organized by AC/E. With its 2,000m2, the pavilion will be underpinned by sustainability and the circular economy. The proposal will cover two spaces: a ground floor occupied by several plazas, platforms for dialogue between Spain’s history and the Arab world based on elements such as the game of chess and architectural lattices, plus a technology forest on the lower floor. This forest, denominated “The Intelligence Forest”, will illustrate the importance of the Spanish natural heritage. Furthermore,

through museum elements, it will display various Spanish projects developed with sustainability in mind, an initiative that will serve for promoting cutting-edge businesses, activities and initiatives in fields such as biotechnology and technological innovation, touching on topics such as food, intelligent cities and the generation of new energies. One of the most outstanding characteristics of this forest is that, although artificial, it will produce oxygen in real time from the materials and photobioreactors that make it up. El contexto climático, el nuevo paradigma en materia de movilidad urbana, el avance hacia la autosuficiencia energética así como la demanda de un paisaje urbano social, verde y saludable requiere de una amplia transformación urbana. Las calles de nuestras ciudades deben reciclarse y evolucionar hacia un modelo de espacio público ecológico, social y resiliente que ofrezca soluciones frente a retos globales. Esta transformación necesita nuevas estrategias y herramientas de diseño urbano, como las que utiliza el despacho Leku Studio, dirigido por los arquitectos Jokin Santiago y Marta Sola. La recientemente inaugurada Superilla de Sant Antoni es ejemplo de este trabajo, en el que diseño urbano especializado al servicio del proceso de transformación ha hecho efectiva la extensión progresiva y flexible ARQUITECTURA PREMIOS / AWARDS / ARCHITECTURE

de la Superilla en el barrio. La actuación establece como premisa la reversibilidad y adaptabilidad de la misma, lo que supone un ejercicio de reciclaje total de la urbanización existente. Son prioridad el cambio modal en materia de movilidad, el aumento del verde, la mejora ambiental así como la creación de entornos amables que fomenten la vida comunitaria. Se persigue con especial sensibilidad la creación de espacios lúdicos que fomenten el juego infantil en la calle y el encuentro comunitario. La propuesta de implantación es fruto del análisis local del barrio y la participación activa de vecinos y vecinas en el proceso, concluyendo una distribución consensuada que se despliega en base a tres niveles principales: -Patrón gráfico base: Con el fin de ordenar

y redistribuir el espacio en calzada, se establece una malla reticular extensible que sirve como guía y referencia para la implantación del patrón gráfico y la distribución de elementos urbanos. -Kit de elementos urbanos especializados: La eco-traviesa, las hidrojardineras y el hidroparterre son los elementos que componen el kit. Al seguir la modulación establecida por la malla base, todos los elementos son fácilmente agregables y combinables entre sí, dando lugar a un gran número de disposiciones. Estos conjuntos son clave para la integración y extensión del verde urbano así como para la estructuración de espacios. -Mobiliario complementario: El último nivel lo aportan los elementos de mobiliario urbano que complementan los espacios

con sillas, bancos accesibles y elementos lúdicos, entre otros. —

Sant Antoni Super-Island. The climate context, the new paradigm in the field of urban mobility, the advance towards energy selfsufficiency and the demand for a social, green and healthy urban landscape requires a wideranging urban transformation. The streets of our cities have to recycle themselves and evolve towards an eco-friendly, social and resilient public space model that offers solutions to global challenges. This transformation requires new urban design strategies and tools such as those used by the Leku Studio headed by the architects Jokin Santiago and Marta Sola. process has made effective the gradual and flexible enlargement of this districtâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s superurban island. The work establishes the premise of reversibility and adaptability, entailing an exercise in the comprehensive recycling of the existing urbanisation. Priority is given to modal change in mobility, increase of green, environmental improvement and creation of friendly environments that encourage community life. The work has particularly and sensitively pursued the creation of play areas to stimulate children to play in the street and for the community to come together. The implementation proposal is the result of a local analysis conducted in the district and the active participation of the neighbours in the process, which concluded in an agreed layout deployed according to three main levels: -Base graphic pattern: seeking to arrange and redistribute the roadway space, an extensible reticular mesh was established as a guide

and reference for implementing the graphic pattern and distributing the urban elements. -Kit of specialised urban elements: ecosleepers, self-watering planters and the -watering parterres are elements that comprise the kit. When following the modulation established by the base mesh, all the elements are easily added to and combinable, giving rise to large numbers of layouts. These sets are crucial in integrating and extending the urban green and for the structuring of spaces. -Complementary furniture: the last level consists of urban furniture elements that complement the spaces with chairs, accessible benches, play elements and more. Foto Colectania presenta la provocadora obra de uno de los fotógrafos más influyentes de Japón en las últimas décadas: Daido Moriyama. La obra de este gran fotógrafo refleja una visión subjetiva de la vida de la ciudad y del caos de la existencia cotidiana; su trabajo ocupa un espacio único entre lo ilusorio y lo real. Moriyama se convirtió en el artista más destacado del movimiento Provoke, que jugó un rol esencial a la hora de liberar la fotografía de la tradición e interrogar la naturaleza del medio. Su estilo audaz e intransigente ha ayudado al reconocimiento de la fotografía japonesa en un contexto internacional. Las imágenes de esta exposición proceden de la Fundación Hasselblad en Gotemburgo, en Suecia, y son el resultado de casi cincuenta años de creación fotográfica, que no pueden leerse de manera cronológica o en grupos temáticos. Daido Moriyama. The work of this great photographer reflects a subjective vision of life in the city and the chaos of everyday existence; it occupies a unique space between the illusory and the real. Moriyama became the most prominent artist in the Provoke movement, which played an essential role in liberating photography from tradition and in questioning the nature of the medium. His bold and intransigent style has contributed to the recognition of Japanese photography internationally. The images in this exhibition are on loan from the Hasselblad Foundation in Goteborg in Sweden and are the result of almost fifty years of photographic creation, which cannot be read chronologically or in thematic groups. Every year this foundation presents the International Award in Photography, which is considered to be the world’s most important photography recognition (the equivalent of the Nobel prize in photography). La biblioteca LocHal Public Library de Tilburg, en los Países Bajos, ha recibido el título de “Edificio del año 2019” en el World Architecture Festival (WAF), unos premios que cada año dan a conocer los mejores proyectos a nivel mundial, elegidos por un jurado compuesto por personalidades de renombre en el mundo de la arquitectura y el urbanismo. Diseñado por Civil architects, y con la colaboración del estudio Braaksma & Roos Architectenbureau e Inside Outside / Petra Blaisse, este proyecto ha transformado un edificio que iba a ser derribado en unas instalaciones polivalentes que albergan una biblioteca pública, espacios de coworking, salas de conferencias, espacios dedicados a las artes y una gran sala para eventos internacionales, exposiciones y debates. Según el jurado: “El edificio se ha convertido en un condensador social: celebra y explota tradiciones locales de la industria textil, y cuenta con una estrategia medioambiental diseñada para proporcionar calor y también refrescar a las personas, no al edificio”. Entre los proyectos ganadores del resto de las categorías del certamen, destacamos: Comfort Town en Kiev, Ucrania, categoría “Uso del color”, obra de archimatika; el pabellón Bulletin para el BJFU Garden Festival en Beijing, categoría “Ingeniería”, obra de SUP Atelier - Swirling Cloud, y la sección de muestra de Yangpu Riverside Public Space en Shanghai, China, categoría “Paisaje del año”, obra de Original Design Studio. —

LocHal Public Library, Building of the Year 2019. The LocHal Public Library in Tilburg, Netherlands, has won the title of Building of the Year 2019 at the World Architecture Festival (WAF). El proyecto JCA Living Lab en Taipei, Taiwán, ha sido elegido “World Interior of the Year” de los Premios Inside, entregados durante la celebración del World Festival of Interiors en Ámsterdam, en paralelo al World Architecture Festival (WAF). La estructura, creada por el studio J.C. Architecture, es una casa en consonancia con las necesidades dispares y a veces contradictorias de una familia joven. Cada espacio puede ser negociado y adaptado, para que pueda evolucionar con el paso del tiempo. El jurado ha valorado “la solución creativa para reconfigurar una dilapidada casa colonial japonesa. (…) El espacio interior desemboca en un jardín, convertido a su vez en una estancia exterior. La luz penetra de forma inusitada. (…) Frente al veloz desarrollo en Taipei, este proyecto tiene el potencial de ser un ‘prototipo’ que puede ayudar a reevaluar el número existente de casas japonesas”. practice, is a house in keeping with the disparate and sometimes contradictory needs of a young family. Each space can be negotiated and adapted so that it can evolve over time. The jury valued “the creative solution for reconfiguring a dilapidated Japanese colonial house. (…) The interior space leads to a garden, in turn transformed into an outdoor room. The light floods it in an unusual way. Los Premios LUX, referentes de la fotografía profesional española, organizados por la Asociación de Fotógrafos Profesionales de España (AFP), celebraron su edición número 27 en el Auditorio del Museu del Disseny de Barcelona, en una gala en la que se hizo entrega de los LUX Oro, Plata y Bronce a los 24 finalistas del certamen, dividido en once categorías: Publicidad, Moda y Belleza, Bodegón, Industrial, Arquitectura e Interiorismo, Retrato, Reportaje documental, Paisaje y Naturaleza, Proyecto personal, Reportaje social y Júnior. El jurado, constituido por fotógrafos y profesionales del mundo de la imagen y la comunicación de reconocido prestigio, tuvo en cuenta valores como la innovación, la adaptación, la aportación a una idea o concepto, la contundencia y la capacidad de comunicación de la obra a la hora de elegir a los ganadores. Joan Gil Raga fue el ganador por excelencia de esta edición con tres LUX de la categoría de Paisaje y Naturaleza y el LUX Plata de Arquitectura e Interiorismo. A partir del 2020, las obras ganadoras se podrán visitar en una exposición itinerante que recorrerá diversas ciudades de España. LUX 2019 Awards. LUX Awards, a benchmark in Spanish professional photography, through which since 1993 the Spanish Professional Photographers’ Association (AFP) recognises the best photographic works, celebrated their 27th edition in the Disseny Hub Barcelona Auditorium, in a prize-giving ceremony of the LUX gold, silver, bronze and junior trophies for the 24 entries shortlisted, classified into eleven categories: Advertising, Fashion and Beauty, Still Life, Industrial, Architecture and Interior Design, Portrait, Documentary Reportage, Landscape and Nature, Personal Project, Social Reportage and Junior. Premios Proyecto Fin de Carrera del Codic

En noviembre tuvo lugar la entrega de los 21 premios del Colegio de diseñadores de interiores y decoradores de Cataluña. El jurado de esta edición, compuesto por los secretarios sin derecho a voto Albert Salvia (presidente Codic-Lleida) y Julia Garcia Casas (secretaria de Codic), y por Carles Margarit, vicepresidente y secretario Codic-Girona; Antoni Casadesús, miembro del Consejo Consultivo de Codic; Rosa Fonts y Forcadell, decana del Colegio Oficial de Diseño Gráfico de Cataluña; Gemma Tost, directora editorial y creativa de la revista On Diseño, y Marc Rivas, responsable de prescripción de CIN Valentine, quiso destacar las ideas presentadas y el completo desarrollo de los proyectos, profundizando en la búsqueda conceptual y las propuestas de mejora sociales. ¿Cómo afrontarán las ciudades, barrios y hogares los retos que nos plantea la sociedad del futuro, y cómo repercutirá en el día a día de las personas? La exposición “El hogar del futuro” de Ikea buscaba ofrecer respuestas a esta pregunta, adelantándose y ahondando en lo que serán los hogares dentro de 10 años. Presentada en el marco del Madrid Design Festival (del 7 al 11 de febrero de 2020) y creada por el laboratorio de investigación de Ikea SPACE10 e Ikano Bostad — inmobiliaria fundada por la compañía sueca con el objetivo de ofrecer vivienda asequible— la exposición proponía nuevas formas de vida basadas en 5 puntos clave: espacios compartidos, energías renovables, productos sostenibles, cultivo en el hogar y nuevas formas de alimentación. Las ciudades de todo el mundo se enfrentan a una rápida urbanización, al envejecimiento de la población, al cambio climático y a la falta de recursos naturales, así como a precios de vivienda impredecibles. The exhibition “The Future of Homes” by Ikea was seeking answers to this question, anticipating and elaborating on what homes will be like in 10 years’ time. Presented within the frame of the Madrid Design Festival (from 7 to 11 February 2020) and created by Ikea’s research lab SPACE10 and Ikano Bostad—the real estate company founded by the Swedish company whose aim is to provide affordable housing—, proposed new ways of life based on 5 key points: shared spaces, renewable energies, sustainable products, cultivation in the home and new ways of eating. Cities around the world are facing rapid urbanization, the aging of their populations, climate change and a lack of natural resources as well as unpredictable housing prices. In this scenario it is clear that we need to rethink the construction, management and lifecycle of buildings

La impresión 3D supone una gran revolución, pero hasta ahora la fabricación en serie era complicada por la complejidad de los materiales necesarios para llevarla a cabo. High-performance polymers in 3D printing. 3D printing is a major revolution, yet hitherto serial fabrication was difficult

due to the complexity of the materials needed for doing it. The development of high-performance polymers by Covestro is a major advance in this regard. Its innovative materials are wide-ranging in terms of functionality, complexity and design of end product; they are also fully recyclable, thus contributing to the development of the circular economy. One of the applications of these high-tech materials can be found in the footwear industry; thermoplastic polyurethane allows for more economical automated production and the full recyclability of the shoe; furthermore, it is highly resistant to bounce and abrasion. As well as simplifying production, this material also achieves more sustainable footwear, since it can be fully recycled in a single step, turning old shoes into filament for new ones. Aunque los proyectos diseñados por mujeres a menudo pasan desapercibidos, “Breaking Ground” demuestra que no es porque la arquitectura no sea ejemplar. Esta obra incluye más de 200 edificios —algunos icónicos—, diseñados por más de 150 arquitectas; un oportuno documento de la extraordinaria aportación que han realizado las mujeres a la profesión. En el libro hay pioneras como Julia Morgan, que diseñaba en Los Ángeles y fue la primera mujer admitida en el programa de

arquitectura de la École des beaux-arts de París en 1902; Jane Drew, que ingresó en la Asociación Arquitectónica de Londres en 1934 y se convirtió en una de las modernistas más importantes de su época, y Marion Mahony Griffin, una de las primeras licenciadas en arquitectura, además de socia e influencia inconmensurable de Frank Lloyd Wright. Although projects designed by women often go unnoticed, “Breaking Ground” demonstrates that this is not because the architecture is not exemplary. Dinámico comienzo de año para el sector mueble y decoración. La primera cita en el calendario ferial aglutinó a más de 128.000 visitantes en Koelnmesse durante los siete días (del 13 al 19 de enero) que duró el salón IMM en la ciudad alemana de Colonia. Los datos sobre las inscripciones al evento muestran una audiencia internacional de alta calidad, tanto de minoristas como de mayoristas. Por primera vez, el salón se centró en dos universos interiores: Pure presentó el mundo de las marcas de diseño que están más de moda, y Home mostró soluciones de mobiliario para viviendas modernas, una división que tenía por objeto facilitar el tráfico de los visitantes. Con la significativa expansión de Let’s be smart – Smart Village, la feria también quiso poner énfasis en la automatización del hogar. visitors to Koelnmesse during the seven days (from 13 to 19 January) of the trade fair IMM in the German city of Cologne. Registration data for the event shows that it attracted a high-quality international audience of retailers and wholesalers. For the first time, the trade fair focused on two interior worlds: Pure comprehensively presented the world of on-trend design brands, while Home showcased furnishing solutions for modern dwellings, a division that aimed to make easier for visitors to navigate. With the significant expansion of Let’s be smart – Smart Village, the trade fair also placed much greater emphasis on smart living. Exhibitors and visitors welcomed the new structure in Hall 10 and the value-added content generated by the special Future Interiors event area, which focused on German furniture trends and the crucial issue of sustainability. Das Haus 2020, diseño mediterráneo firmado por MUT

Todos los años, el salón IMM acoge la sección denominada Das Haus, que permite que jóvenes diseñadores presenten su visión sobre la vivienda futura a partir del diseño de una casa real completamente amueblada en un área de unos 180m2. En la pasada edición, este proyecto de la feria alemana se asignó por primera vez a un equipo español: los valencianos MUT Design, que con su propuesta “A la Fresca” ofrecieron una visión mediterránea del hábitat en la que los límites entre interior y exterior se diluían. Según Alberto Sánchez y Eduardo Villalón, fundadores de MUT: “La forma de vida mediterránea es sinónimo de disfrutar la vida al aire libre. Con Das Haus 2020 exploramos el diseño interior como una extensión del espacio exterior”. La estructura general circular de Das Haus 2020 estaba enmarcada por un cuadrado plano de metal reflectante. La propuesta intentaba evitar al máximo la luz artificial, procurando que la casa irradiara desde su interior: el área privada, compuesta

por cuatro espacios —zona de descanso, cocina, zona de aseo personal y área polivalente para diversas actividades— estaba iluminada con una fuente de luz que buscaba imitar la luz natural del sol a medida que esta se desplaza por el cielo a lo largo del día. Así definía Dick Spierenburg, director creativo de la IMM, al dúo de diseñadores valencianos: “MUT es la clase de comunidad multidisciplinar formada por personas con ideas afines que existe en todo tipo de constelaciones hoy día: moderna, flexible y creativa. Su trabajo abarca una sorprendente diversidad de campos: son diseñadores de producto, directores creativos, diseñadores gráficos, interioristas y comisarios de exposiciones. Destacan como una nueva generación de estudios de diseño que responden a un escenario nuevo, en el que las grandes demandas se resuelven a partir de la inventiva y adaptabilidad de los diseñadores”.

Das Haus 2020, Mediterranean design signed by MUT. Every year, the Das Haus project at IMM—the furniture and decoration trade fair staged in Cologne— allows young designers to present their vision of the future house based on a real house fully furnished. In the last edition, the Valentian team MUT Design was in charge of this section of the German trade fair, with a project named “A la fresca”, meaning to “step out into the fresh air”. According to Alberto Sánchez and Eduardo Villalón, founders of MUT, “Mediterranean life is synonymous with outdoor living. Das Haus 2020 explored interior design by means of opening the space up to the outdoors”. The circular general outline of our Das Haus was framed by a flat square of reflective metal. Artificial light was largely avoided. Instead, Das Haus radiated from within: the private area, divided in four sections— active, resting, cleaness and kitchen—was illuminated by a light source that aimed to imitate the natural light of the sun as it moves

across the sky over the course of the day. El interiorista José Manuel Fernández, director de interiorismo del estudio Lagranja, firma el espectacular escaparate de la barcelonesa tienda de mobiliario Cubiñá, ubicada en el edificio modernista Casa Thomas en pleno Eixample barcelonés. Con la intencionalidad de destacar el carácter atrevido de Cubiñá y su vinculación con el diseño de interiores a lo largo de más de 100 años, José Manuel Fernández ha escogido la icónica silla Thonet, considerada el inicio de la historia del mueble moderno, para crear una escena en movimiento. Las sillas, teñidas de blanco y verde manzana, cuelgan del techo con diferentes inclinaciones. La teatralidad se complementa con unas enormes letras “CBÑ”. —

Terrassa es una ciudad situada a 20 kilómetros de Barcelona que desde finales de noviembre acoge la nueva sede de Marset. Las instalaciones recién estrenadas cuentan con 11.000 metros cuadrados, y se presentan como un proyecto de arquitectura e interiorismo en fase de crecimiento. Stefano Colli ha sido el artífice de la obra, a medio camino entre espacio de trabajo y showroom. La reforma y adecuación de la superficie se ha planteado en tres fases: las naves para el almacenamiento y la producción dotadas con las últimas tecnologías, las oficinas, y las áreas comunes que incluyen showroom, cantina y jardín. Con las lámparas de la marca como hilo conductor del proyecto, el objetivo básico era que el espacio transmitiera los valores de la marca: diseño, calidad, rigor tecnológico, innovación, sostenibilidad, perdurabilidad y autenticidad. ¡Objetivo conseguido! ¡Enhorabuena! —

new Marset headquarters. The newly opened facilities cover 11,000 square metres and are presented as an architecture and interior design project in an ongoing growth phase. Stefano Colli was the author of the site, halfway between a workspace and a showroom. Reforming and adapting the space took place over three stages: the units for storage and production equipped with the latest technologies, the offices and the communal areas that include a showroom, canteen and garden. With the lamps produced by the brand as the guiding thread for the project, the basic goal was to make the space transmit the brand’s values: design, quality, technological rigour, innovation, sustainability, durability and authenticity. Goal achieved! Congratulations!

Resuinsa estrena centro logístico a todo color

El color amarillo transforma la percepción del espacio que ocupan las oficinas en las nuevas instalaciones de Resuinsa, multinacional fabricante de textiles para hostelería y restauración. El estudio BoMa se ha encargado de fusionar la estética rompedora de la nave, que además de las oficinas alberga los últimos pasos del proceso de producción de los textiles —corte y confección, embalaje, almacenamiento y logística— con el privilegiado entorno natural en el que se ubica, el lago de Anna, en Valencia. Aprovechando la riqueza de la vegetación y el jardín existente, el equipo creativo de BoMa ha optado por una selección de colores que evocan los elementos de la naturaleza y que tiñen las formas geométricas dibujadas a lo largo de la extensa fachada. BoMa ha estudiado una distribución sencilla y eficiente en la antigua hilatura para facilitar el incesante flujo de trabajo. La continuidad de la iluminación ha sido un elemento fundamental a la hora de diseñar los espacios, ya que se buscaba conseguir una luz neutra que no contaminara los colores de los tejidos. —

BoMa studied a simple and efficient layout in the old spinning plant to facilitate an unceasing workflow. – Este interesante proyecto de ampliación de la sede judicial de Pontevedra trabaja su estrategia a partir de un definido interés por respetar las características arquitectónicas y ambientales de su entorno urbano. – This interesting enlargement project for Pontevedra’s Courthouse works its strategy according to a defined interest in respecting the architectural and environmental characteristics of its urban setting.

La nueva sede judicial, promovida por la Xunta de Galicia, nace con la intención de reagrupar todos los juzgados de la ciudad de Pontevedra, generando al mismo tiempo espacio suficiente para las necesidades de un futuro próximo. El nuevo edificio se comunica con el existente a través de una pasarela, formando ambos una única unidad funcional. La imagen exterior del edificio viene dada por dos condicionantes claros, como son las necesidades del espacio público y la presencia de la arquitectura colindante, en especial el edifico judicial existente. El edificio, en su posicionamiento, genera tres plazas con caracteres distintos, en función de las entradas y salidas que se plantean en el edificio. Una plaza en la entrada principal, otra en la salida de la sala de vistas principal y una tercera plaza en la entrada reservada a los jueces. La tipología de la arquitectura, en su mayoría bloques de vivienda en manzana cerrada distribuidos en torno a un patio, se mantiene en la planta del nuevo edificio. La necesidad de los edificios judiciales de mantener la privacidad y la discreción en su interior, ha llevado a proyectar un edificio introvertido, que se vuelca hacia un espacio 34 | on 394 | arquitectura / architecture

central en su configuración en planta, pero que, mediante la elección de materiales, presenta una buscada de permeabilidad. El cerramiento exterior se realiza a base de una doble piel: una interior, totalmente acristalada, y otra exterior, de lamas verticales, que actúa a su vez como protección solar y de vistas. La fachada resultante ofrece vistas cambiantes e imagen diferente según la posición desde la que se mira el edificio, siendo permeable en una vista frontal y opaca si se mira de manera lateral. Los colores utilizados son los existentes en los edificios circundantes de la ciudad (blanco, gris, negro y verde), lo que le confiere una mayor integración con el entorno. El edificio, gracias a su posición y permeabilidad, actúa como un “foco” de luz cuando las circunstancias lo hacen necesario. La construcción de nueva planta se une con el edificio contiguo mediante una pasarela que vincula la planta primera con la planta de salas de vistas de la edificación existente. Esta pasarela prolonga el modelo de cerramiento diseñado en el conjunto de las fachadas del nuevo espacio y permite la continuidad funcional de ambos edificios, premisa establecida en los objetivos del concurso.

El atrio central funciona como gran plaza interior que vertebra todas las circulaciones objeto del proyecto funcional, con un diseño abierto iluminado cenitalmente por una serie de lucernarios, cuya materialidad de característica metálica proyecta la luz natural en el interior del edificio. La conexión visual de planta baja y primera, nada más acceder al recinto, permite una rápida y clara lectura de los espacios de comunicación vertical y su funcionalidad. the near future. The new building is connected to the existing one via a walkway, with both of them forming a single functional unit. The building’s external image is due to two clear conditioning factors: the needs of the public space and the presence of the adjacent architecture, especially the existing courthouse. In its positioning, the building generates three plazas with differing characters according to the building’s entrances and exits: a plaza in the main entrance, another one at the exit of the main courtroom and a third one at the entrance reserved for the judges. The typology of the surrounding architecture, mainly housing buildings configured as closed blocks around a courtyard, is maintained in the ground plan for the new building. The need for the courthouses to maintain privacy and discretion in their interiors is behind the design of an introverted building that looks towards the central space in its ground plan configuration but which, thanks to the choice of materials, presents a sought-for permeability. The external enclosure is a double skin: an interior, fully glazed one and an exterior one of vertical slats that acts as protection against both the sunlight and the views. The resulting façade offers changing vistas and a different image depending on the position from which the building is viewed, making it permeable in a front view and opaque when viewed from the side. The

colours used are found in the city’s surrounding buildings (white, grey, black and green), giving it greater integration into the surroundings. The building, thanks to its position and permeability, acts as a “light source” when the circumstances require it. The new construction is linked to the adjacent building via a walkway that connects the first floor with the courtroom floor of the existing edifice. This walkway extends the enclosure model designed for all the façades of the new space and allows for a functional continuity in both buildings, a premise set in the competition objectives. The central atrium operates as a great interior plaza that articulates all circulations covered by the functional project, with an open design lit up from above through a series of roof lights whose metallic materiality brings natural light into the building. The visual connection between the ground and first floors as soon as one enters the site allows for a clear and rapid reading of the vertical communication spaces and their functionality. The materials chosen here facilitate acoustic insulation and foster a calm environment even though this is the busiest space in the building. The upper courtyard acts as a meeting area for the different standard floors and as a rest area for the workers. Its façade of serial openings is a reflection of the external façade, bringing an intimate and warm reflection to the private space.

– La inteligente forma de relacionar entre sí espacios servidos y servidores, su elaborada complejidad espacial, así como la eficiencia energética y la utilización de materiales económicos y de bajo impacto, caracterizan este interesante proyecto. – The intelligent way of connecting served and server spaces, its elaborate spatial complexity together with energy efficiency and the use of economical low-impact materials characterise this interesting project.

La Fundación Germina es una entidad dedicada a la atención, seguimiento y refuerzo de la educación de niños y jóvenes en riesgo de exclusión social, actuando como un complemento educativo para su formación y futura integración laboral. Este seguimiento, que pretende generar un vínculo basado en la realización de proyectos continuados desde el momento en el que ingresan en edad infantil hasta el momento de su inserción laboral, debía contar con un espacio que pudiera alojar sus tres franjas de edad fundamentales en tres espacios conectados pero independientes. La parcela adquirida por la propiedad, ubicada en un barrio de escasos recursos económicos en la ciudad de Badalona, se compona de los bajos de dos edificaciones existentes y un pequeño solar entre ellos. A pesar de lo fraccionado del programa, parecía conveniente crear una cierta unidad interior, no solo física, sino también visual. De esta manera, y adosado a las medianeras sin iluminación natural, un gran mueble vertebrador (servidor) recorre cada uno de los programas (servidos), permitiendo resolver la innumerable variedad de necesidades de cada espacio con un solo gesto. En la edificación central, de seis alturas, se disponen tres programas: espacios comunes (junto al acceso y como rótula entre los tres locales), zona de jóvenes (en los niveles intermedios) y, en los niveles superiores, más alejada de la actividad infantil, la zona administrativa. A las tres grandes cajas apiladas de dos niveles se les practican unas dislocaciones que provocan la aparición de paisajes que ayudan a enriquecer y caracterizar los espacios interiores o exteriores. A su vez, estas dislocaciones favorecen la sensación de descompresión y proporcionan un juego de escala expresada en fachadas, deliberadamente ajena a proporciones residenciales, que ayuda a crear una marcada identidad propia. Así mismo, los huecos de la fachada a calle se organizan y componen haciendo un guiño al edificio existente colindante de viviendas de protección oficial, a la vez que otorgan cierta continuidad compositiva a su entorno inmediato. Los dobles espacios exteriores, que el ajardinamiento irá colonizando con el tiempo, se cierran a la calle de acceso mediante una malla metálica que proporciona una mayor seguridad para los niños pero que responde 42 | on 394 | arquitectura / architecture

a la necesidad urbanística de mantener el plano de fachada en alineación a vial. La dualidad entre un espacio interior amable —que debe funcionar como un segundo hogar en el que se sientan bien acogidos— y la inserción urbana del inmueble en un emplazamiento degradado, entre un espacio cálido y doméstico y una necesaria austeridad —también presupuestaria— que refleje con pocos ornamentos añadidos o gratuitos una actividad seria, cuyos esfuerzos están dedicados fundamentalmente a su actividad, sugería el contraste entre una materialización orgánica interior (madera) y una apariencia más austera exterior (hormigón proyectado). Las carpinterías de madera, los toldos practicables a sur, la cubierta ajardinada, el uso de materiales de bajo impacto y la eficiencia de las instalaciones, entre otras medidas, han permitido que el edificio haya obtenido la certificación energética A y el certificado internacional “Breeam - Very Good”. – Esta propuesta de reutilización de una serie de cinco naves industriales, en el sector del Poblenou de Barcelona, pretende —y consigue— aprovechar lo existente no como un obstáculo sino como una oportunidad de mejorar funcionalidad y calidad espacial del conjunto. – This proposal for reusing a series of five industrial units in Barcelona’s Poblenou sector aims —and succeeds— in making use of what is there not as an obstacle but as an opportunity to improve the functionality and spatial quality of the complex.

El proyecto se sitúa en el Poblenou, un barrio de Barcelona de origen obrero y industrial, donde la mayor parte de fábricas y almacenes no catalogados acaban siendo derribados por la complejidad que supone su adaptación a las normativas vigentes. A pesar de ello, la zona dispone todavía de algunas fábricas desocupadas que esperan una nueva oportunidad para volver a ser habitadas. El espacio a reocupar, emplazado en un solar entre medianeras, está compuesto por la agregación de cinco naves de características estructurales y geométricas diferentes que habían sido utilizadas en el pasado como almacenes. El programa definido por el promotor prevé seis talleres en las plantas superiores y dos locales y un aparcamiento en la planta baja. La propuesta pretende aprovechar lo existente entendiéndolo no como un obstáculo, sino como una oportunidad para generar espacios de cualidades materiales y tipológicas diversas, capaces de albergar las actividades permitidas en el distrito 22@. También se propone dotar de suficiente versatilidad al espacio para que pueda ser ocupado y organizado de otras maneras a lo largo del desarrollo de la actividad, así como aportar luz natural y ventilación cruzada a todos los espacios interiores a partir del vaciado y la formación de nuevos patios exteriores que podrán ser usados como espacios de relación. El proyecto entiende el espacio privado como un soporte flexible, donde solo se facilita lo indispensable: un baño adaptado, una previsión para zona de office, un espacio exterior donde exponer el material creado, o donde poder trabajar o descansar, y un conjunto

de instalaciones a demanda según las necesidades de cada taller. Así mismo se trabajan y modifican las envolventes para conseguir el confort térmico y acústico necesario. Para ello se perforan algunas de las crujías, lo que genera nuevas fachadas que a nivel constructivo se resuelven con entramado de madera cuando están perforadas, o mediante muros cerámicos vistos cuando son opacas. En las cotas más altas de las naves, los cerramientos se han rehecho ya que se trataba de muros de ampliaciones posteriores construidos con ladrillo no estructural de baja calidad, lo que ha permitido elevar la cota de cubierta y poder utilizar los dobles espacios y las zonas de altillos. Estos cerramientos se resuelven con cerámica vista en el interior y aislamiento revestido de chapa Pegaso lacada en la cara exterior. De este modo, a través de su materialidad, se identifican las zonas modificadas respecto a las preexistentes. The project is situated in the Poblenou, a Barcelona district of working-class and industrial origins where most of the unlisted factories and warehouses are ultimately demolished due to the complexity of adapting them to the regulations in force. Despite this, the area still has some unoccupied factories awaiting a new opportunity to be inhabited. The space due to be reoccupied, situated on a plot between party walls, is formed through the aggregation of five industrial units with differing structural and geometric characteristics that had been used as warehouses in the past. The programme defined by the developer had to cater for six

workshops in the upper floors and two retail premises and a car park on the ground floor. The proposal aims to make the most of what is there, viewing it not as an obstacle but as an opportunity to generate spaces with diverse material and typological qualities capable of accommodating the activities permitted in the 22@ district. It also sets out to give the space sufficient versatility for it to be occupied and organised in other ways and to bring in daylight and crossed ventilation to all interior spaces by hollowing out and creating new exterior courtyards that can be used as spaces for socialising. The project understands the private space as a flexible medium where only the indispensable elements are provided: an adapted bathroom, a planned space for a kitchen/pantry, an outdoor space in which to display the created material or a place for working or resting, plus a set of on-demand installations according to each workshop’s needs. The shells were also worked and modified to achieve the necessary thermal and acoustic comfort. This entailed perforating some of the centrelines to generate new façades that in construction terms are resolved with a wooden lattice when they are perforated or with exposed ceramic walls when opaque. In the upper levels of the units, the enclosures were rebuilt given that the walls dated from enlargements built at a later date with non-structural, low-quality brick. This led to raising the roof level and to using the double spaces and mezzanine areas. These enclosures are made from exposed ceramic on the inside and insulation clad in lacquered Pegaso sheeting on the outside. Their materiality identifies the modified zones and distinguishes them from the existing ones. 51

– Se trata aquí de un ejercicio de diseño en el que, de forma brillante, se ha llevado a cabo un desarrollo de promoción privada, con el principal objetivo de construir un entorno en el que lo construido permita un retorno a su naturaleza original. – We have here a design exercise in a brilliantly accomplished private development, one that seeks mainly to transform a setting in which the built part will allow a return to its primordial nature.

El nuevo Second Home en Hollywood, holLA es una colección de varias recetas e ingredientes de un cóctel de California. HolLA se encuentra en East Hollywood en medio de dos edificios existentes, de los cuales había que mantener uno de ellos, diseñado en 1964 por Paul Williams, el primer arquitecto afroamericano reconocido que trabaja en Los Ángeles. Este edificio tiene un aspecto clásico de neocolonialismo de Los Ángeles, y se utiliza como entrada principal para todo el campus. En este edificio existente se encuentran 320 lugares de itinerancia en la planta baja y oficinas adicionales con 200 espacios de trabajo en el primer piso, así como instalaciones comunes como cafetería, bar, restaurante, sala de eventos y conferencias, áreas de descanso y terrazas abiertas, todo ello alrededor del edificio. El otro es demolido y, además del estacionamiento subterráneo existente, se emplazan 60 nuevas oficinas individuales y salas de reuniones ovaladas rodeadas por un jardín que será el segundo hogar para casi 700 personas. Cuatro formas ovaladas diferentes crean las 60 oficinas en bungalows de 4 tamaños diferentes, que se encuentran dispersas alrededor del jardín construido con 4 pies de tierra en la parte superior de la losa de estacionamiento, enterrando los bungalows hasta la altura de la mesa. Las paredes curvas transparentes permiten vistas horizontales de 360º de las plantas, dando la sensación de estar trabajando entre la naturaleza. 58 | on 394 | arquitectura / architecture

Los espacios interiores en este proyecto pasan desapercibidos; el foco principal es el exterior, que es la quintaesencia del estilo de vida en Los Ángeles. En Second Home Hollywood, en lugar de llevar el jardín dentro de la oficina, se ha llevado la oficina al jardín. Oficinas (o macetas) están rodeadas de más de 10.000 plantas y árboles, mariposas, hormigas, abejas, ardillas... Los caminos de madera y hormigón rompen el jardín con plantas a ambos lados, como si de un paseo por las flores se tratara. Second Home Hollywood es un experimento para el empleado de oficina medio: coexiste diariamente con seres vivos que no sean humanos. Esta aproximación a la naturaleza no es el único paso hacia una vida más sostenible: las plantas reducen la temperatura y proporcionan sombra; la fachada clara elimina la necesidad de iluminación artificial y dispone de tres aberturas operables para ventilación cruzada natural. The new Second Home in Hollywood, holLA, is a collection of several recipes and ingredients for a California cocktail. HolLA is located in East Hollywood between two existing buildings, of which one had to be retained: it was designed in 1964 by Paul Williams, who was the first recognised African-American architect to work in Los Angeles. This building has the classic Los Angeles neo-colonialist appearance and is used as the main entrance to the entire campus. This existing building houses 320 hotdesking stations on the ground floor and additional offices

with 200 workspaces on the first floor, together with communal facilities such as cafeteria, bar, restaurant, conference and events hall, lounge areas and open terraces, all of which are dotted around the building. The other one was demolished and, as well as an existing underground car park, holds 60 new individual offices and oval meeting rooms surrounded by a garden. This will be a second home for almost 700 people. Four different oval shapes create the 60 offices in bungalows of 4 different sizes scattered around a garden built with 4 feet of earth on the top of the parking slab, burying the bungalows up to table height. The transparent curved walls allow for 360º horizontal views of the plants, making it feel that one is working surrounded by nature. In this project the interior spaces go unnoticed; the main focus is on the exterior, which is the quintessential Los Angeles lifestyle. In Second Home Hollywood, instead of taking the garden to the office, the office has been taken to the garden. The offices (or planters) are surrounded by more than 10,000 plants and trees, butterflies, ants, bees, squirrels and more. The wooden and concrete paths break up the garden with plants on either side, like a flowery avenue. Second Home Hollywood is an experiment for the average office employee: coexisting daily with non-human living beings. This closeness to nature is not the only step towards a more sustainable life; the plants reduce the temperature and provide shade and the see-through façade removes the need for artificial lighting. It also has three openable gaps for natural crossed ventilation.

– Como no podía ser de otra manera, Arquia, entidad financiera que tiene sus orígenes en el colectivo de los arquitectos, ofrece una vez más un alto nivel en la calidad arquitectónica de los diseños de sus últimas realizaciones en las oficinas de Palma de Mallorca y Zaragoza. – As was to be expected, Arquia, a financial institution which has its origins in the architects’ collective, has again come up with a high level in the architectural quality of the designs for its latest offices in Palma de Mallorca and Zaragoza.

El encargo consiste en la reforma integral de un local existente para su adecuación como oficina de referencia de la entidad Arquia Banca en la ciudad de Palma de Mallorca. Ubicado en la esquina de un edificio residencial, se trata de un local con mucho perímetro de fachada que ocupa dos plantas de geometría irregular e idéntica superficie. Sus huecos de fachada vienen dados por el orden estructural del edificio, y su dimensión alargada está en contacto con una acera amplia y arbolada que funciona como una plaza. La relación con el espacio público es determinante para pensar en la nueva oficina como en una extensión del ámbito de la plaza. Una nueva oficina abierta, con una estrecha relación interior-exterior y concebida como un gran aparador donde el producto expuesto será la propia experiencia bancaria. La actividad, visible desde el exterior, se desarrolla en un único espacio compuesto por diferentes escenas relacionadas entre sí según el gradiente de privacidad y atención requerida para cada una de ellas. Se realizan, entre otras, las modificaciones estructurales necesarias para unificar el nivel de la planta de acceso con el de la acera exterior e introducir un doble espacio junto a fachada. Este vaciado del local articula los diversos ámbitos de la sucursal, permite que la luz natural llegue a la planta sótano y aloja la nueva escalera que comunica ambos niveles. Las áreas de programa se distribuyen aprovechando la geometría en forma de L del local y se organizan realizando una transición desde los ámbitos públicos, ubicados junto a la fachada, hasta los privados, que se retranquean de fachada tanto en planta como en sección. Por último, los espacios confidenciales y de almacenamiento se disponen al fondo del local y contra las medianeras. Una secuencia de bóvedas de madera cubre los ámbitos de interrelación con los clientes. Este nuevo techo, además de ocultar los pasos de instalaciones generales del edificio y propias del nuevo local, incorpora con naturalidad la retícula de pilares existentes y genera una atmósfera cálida y acogedora que acompaña la experiencia bancaria. Los paramentos verticales y trasdosados, realizados con entramado ligero, se revisten también de madera natural o tablero de MDF lacado. El pavimento de las áreas de clientes se realiza con baldosas hidráulicas artesanales, rejuntadas con mortero de cemento. En este caso se ha optado por pulir todo el conjunto, dando como resultado un pavimento continuo que reinterpreta los mosaicos tradicionales tan comunes en el centro de la ciudad. Otros elementos, como el mostrador o el mobiliario fijo, se realizan con un terrazo manufacturado de idéntica composición y mezcla que la utilizada en la fabricación del pavimento. The commission entailed the comprehensive reform of existing premises to turn them into the benchmark office of Arquia Banca in the city of Palma de Mallorca. Located on the corner of a residential building, these premises have a long façade perimeter occupying two floors of irregular geometry and identical surface space. The façade openings are dictated by the building’s structural order, and the elongated dimension is in contact with a generous, tree-lined sidewalk that operates as a plaza. The relationship with the public space is crucial when designing a new office as an extension of the plaza area. The result is a new open office, with a close interior-exterior relationship, conceived as a large show window in which the product on display is the banking experience itself. The activity, which

is visible from the outside, takes place in a single space comprised of different interconnected scenarios according to the degree of privacy and attention required for each one of them. Among other actions, structural modifications were carried out, needed to unify the level of the access floor with the exterior pavement and to introduce a double space next to the façade. This hollowing out of the premises articulates the various spaces in the bank branch, allows daylight to reach the basement floor and contains the new staircase connecting both levels. The areas of the programme are distributed according to the L-shaped geometry of the property and are organised according to a transition from the public spaces next to the façade to the private ones recessed away from the façade in both the floor plan and in the section. Lastly, the confidential and storage spaces are situated at the back of the premises against the party walls. In the construction much effort has gone into securing local industrialists and artisans. Few materials are used, most of them primary, and also locally sourced. The materiality of the project accompanies the spatial proposal. A sequence of wooden vaults covers the spaces for customer interaction. This new ceiling, as well as concealing the cabling and piping of the building’s general installations and those of the establishment itself, accommodates in a natural manner the reticulation of existing pillars and generates a warm and welcoming atmosphere to support the banking experience. The walls and the lightweight plasterboard partitions are also clad in natural wood or lacquered MDF board. The floor in the client areas is laid in handcrafted hydraulic tiles, joined together with cement mortar. In this case it was decided to polish it, producing a continuous floor that reinterprets the traditional mosaics commonly found in the city centre. Other elements, such as the desk or the fixed units, are made from manufactured terrazzo with the identical composition and mixture to that used in the floor.

– Como no podía ser de otra manera, Arquia, entidad financiera que tiene sus orígenes en el colectivo de los arquitectos, ofrece una vez más un alto nivel en la calidad arquitectónica de sus diseños, en sus últimas realizaciones de las oficinas de Palma de Mallorca y Zaragoza. – As was to be expected, Arquia, a financial institution which has its origins in the architects’ collective, has again come up with a high level in the architectural quality of the designs for its latest offices in Palma de Mallorca and Zaragoza.

El proyecto consiste en la reforma integral de un local situado en el chaflán curvo entre dos calles del centro de Zaragoza, para la nueva oficina de Arquia Banca. El local ocupa parte de la planta baja y del primer sótano de un edificio de viviendas de finales de los años setenta. La geometría irregular de la planta, la profundidad del local y la utilización de la planta de sótano suponían los principales condicionantes de partida. El programa responde tanto a la funcionalidad y la gestión propias de una oficina bancaria como al posicionamiento de la entidad como banca de profesionales. Esta especialización en asesoramiento y trato personalizado ofrece nuevos espacios de relación con el cliente. En este sentido, además de los espacios de atención tradicionales y de otras dependencias de uso interno, el programa incluye algunos espacios más ambiguos, para una atención más distendida: una zona de espera/café/atención en planta baja, y una sala polivalente para presentaciones y reuniones en el sótano. El proyecto responde a los condicionantes geométricos del local y a las expectativas del programa mediante una configuración de la planta en dos zonas claramente diferenciadas: una banda longitudinal junto a la medianera, que acoge los espacios más confortables orientados al asesoramiento al cliente y comunica visual y espacialmente ambas plantas mediante un vacío junto a la fachada y la escalera al fondo, y en el otro lado un espacio central de atención en la planta baja, como patio de operaciones, desde el que también se accede al despacho del director, la sala de reuniones y los espacios de servicio. La relación visual y el contraste material entre las dos zonas, configuradas mediante sendas envolventes de tres planos (suelo-pared-techo), abiertas y tangentes entre sí, caracterizan la sección transversal y los espacios interiores. La fachada del local responde a la traza curva del edificio, a la planta del proyecto y a la posición del pilar intermedio que separa la zona de trabajo del porche de acceso, en el que también se sitúan el cajero automático y una pantalla informativa. La relación del porche con el vacío a doble altura se enfatiza mediante la mínima expresión del límite entre ambos, un plano de vidrio con carpintería 72 | on 394 | arquitectura / architecture

oculta. Desde la calle, una celosía de tubos verticales de latón bruñido, de diferentes diámetros y en diferentes posiciones, aporta unidad y continuidad a lo largo del trazado curvo de la fachada, velando las visiones del interior. La atención a la imagen corporativa completa la visión exterior de la oficina. Constructivamente, el interior se caracteriza por el contraste entre dos tipos de espacios, a modo de secciones transversales en C, que se miran entre ellas. El espacio operativo, con suelo de mármol gris pulido, paredes de vidrio satinado y techo de aluminio, se caracteriza por superficies tersas, con acabados técnicos y reflejos matizados. El espacio más confortable de estancia, pavimentado con tarima de roble y con revestimiento de listones de la misma madera en pared y techo, tiene profundidad, calidez y carácter natural. La relación de contraste entre ambos y la elaboración de los detalles constructivos, las piezas de mobiliario y los diseños de luminarias suspendidas, las visiones veladas desde el exterior y conexiones visuales interiores, configuran una experiencia material y espacial diferenciada y relacionada con el propio origen de la entidad, como Caja de Arquitectos. The project consists of the comprehensive reform of premises situated on the curved chamfered corner between two streets in the centre of Zaragoza, for the new Arquia Banca office. The premises occupy part of the ground floor and the first basement of a housing block dating from the late nineteen-seventies. The irregular geometry of the floor plan, the depth of the premises and the use of the basement floor were the main conditioning factors at the outset. The programme answers both the functionality and the management of a bank branch and the positioning of the institution as a bank for professionals. This specialisation in an advisory and personalised service offers new spaces for relations with the customer. In this regard, as well as the traditional service spaces and other rooms for internal use, the programme includes a few more ambiguous spaces for a more relaxed service: a waiting/coffee/customer care area on the ground floor and a polyvalent room for presentations and meetings in the basement.

The project responds to the geometric constraints of the premises and the expectations of the programme through a floor plan configuration of two clearly differentiated zones: a longitudinal strip next to the party wall that contains the more comfortable spaces for an advisory service and visually and spatially connects both floors thanks to a void next to the façade and the staircase at the back, and on the other side a central customer care space on the ground floor as a trading room, which also leads to the director’s office, the meeting room and the service spaces. The visual relationship and the material contrast between the two open and intersecting zones, configured as enclosures on three planes (floor-wall-ceiling), characterise the transversal section and the interior spaces. The establishment’s façade corresponds to the curved outline of the building, the project’s floor plan and the position of the intermediate pillar that separates the working area from the access porch, which also contains the cash dispenser and an information screen. The connection of the porch with the double-height void is emphasised through the minimum expression of the limit between them, a glass plane with concealed joinery. From the street, a lattice of vertical burnished brass tubes of differing diameters and in different positions provides unity and continuity throughout the curved outline of the façade, blurring the views of the interior. The attention given to the corporate image completes the external view of the office. In construction terms, the interior is characterised by the contrast between two types of spaces with C-shaped transversal sections that face each other. The operations space, with a polished grey marble floor, satin glass walls and aluminium ceiling, is characterised by smooth surfaces, with technical finishes and subtle reflections. The most comfortable space in the room, laid with oak boards and clad in slats in the same wood on wall and ceiling, has depth, warmth and a natural appearance. The contrast between them and the care taken with the pieces of furniture and the designs of the pendant lamps, the veiled views from the outside and the internal visual connections configure a differentiated material and spatial experience connected with the institution’s own origins as an architects’ savings bank.

En 2017 la Autoridad Portuaria de Motril convocó un concurso destinado a la construcción de la nueva Sede de Operaciones Portuarias de la Policía Nacional con el fin de controlar las actividades desarrolladas en el puerto. La ubicación propuesta, situada entre naves de pescadores y a escasos metros del Mediterráneo, es estratégica como punto de control. Esta posición, junto con la proximidad del agua freática, hacen que el diseño se conciba como una suma de decisiones arquitectónicas y energéticas para la consecución de un edificio de nulo consumo energético. Formalmente, se opta por una estrategia de colmatación de la esquina y vaciado hacia el interior, con un sistema de patios que actúan como reguladores térmicos y cola-

boran en la calidad lumínica del interior, así como en su permeabilidad con el exterior. Las imágenes exterior e interior del edificio están fuertemente caracterizadas por la desnudez de sus materiales, que tiene la razón de ser en su capacidad constructiva y energética. Hacia el exterior, se configuran grandes paños acristalados con celosías de lamas situadas entre volúmenes limpios de carácter pétreo. Paños ciegos en los que se proyecta un gunitado blanco que recuerda a los zócalos de tirolesa de los paisajes del sur. En el interior, las paredes de ladrillo visto blanco y los techos y suelos de hormigón son elementos de gran inercia, personajes activos del clima del edificio, y que transmiten la energía progresivamente hacia el interior. Todas estas decisiones

constructivas del proyecto están íntimamente relacionadas con su concepto de sostenibilidad y con el objetivo de un consumo energético nulo. El planteamiento energético diseñado para el edificio parte de la premisa de máxima eficiencia en los sistemas de producción y recuperación de energía con aporte energético renovable. Su sistema geotérmico aprovecha la existencia de agua freática accesible en el subsuelo, procurando un sistema de alta eficiencia de producción de climatización y ACS a través de una bomba geotérmica. Para la captación solar fotovoltaica, se pone en valor la superficie de cubierta proyectada sobre los aparcamientos cubiertos, todo ello apoyado en un proceso general de envolvente activa, un sistema de inercia diseñado a partir del concepto de la arquitectura hipogea, donde se facilita el intercambio de energía entre el ambiente interior del edificio y el subsuelo. Con este sistema de envolvente activa se produce la desconexión del ambiente interior con el exterior a nivel energético y se consigue un “edificio cueva”. In 2017 the Motril Port Authority called a competition for the construction of the new headquarters for the Port Operations of the National Police in order to control the activities carried out in the port. The proposed location between fishermen’s units and a few metres from the Mediterranean is a strategic one as a control point. This position, together with its proximity to groundwater, led the design to be conceived as a combination of architectural and energyrelated decisions to construct a building with zero energy consumption. In formal terms a strategy was chosen that fills up the corner and hollows out the interior, with a system of courtyards acting as thermal controllers and contributing to the quality of the light in the interior and its permeability with the exterior. The building’s exterior and interior images are powerfully characterised by the bareness of the materials, the reason for which is their constructional and energy-related capacity. Towards the exterior, large glazed panes are configured, with slatted lattices situated between clean stony volumes. Blind walls sprayed with white gunite that recalls the Tyrolean plinth finish of the southern landscapes. Indoors, the white exposed brick walls and the concrete floors and ceilings are highly inert elements, active characters in the building’s climate control that gradually transmit energy towards the interior. All of these construction decisions are closely related to the concept of sustainability and with the goal of attaining zero energy consumption. The approach to the energy management system designed for the building is based on the premise of maximum efficiency in the production and recovery of energy with renewable energy intake. Its geothermal system makes the most of the groundwater available in the subsoil, which provides a high-efficiency system for the production of HVAC and domestic hot water through a geothermal pump. The roof that covers the car parking areas has been covered with photovoltaic solar panels, supported by a general active shell process, an inertia system designed according to the concept of hypogeal architecture that facilitates the exchange of energy between the building’s interior atmosphere and the subsoil. This active shell system produces a disconnection between the interior and the exterior atmosphere at energy level and achieves a “cave effect”. 79

– Una estrategia secuencial, que permite potenciar el concepto de transparencia propio de las articulaciones tradicionales de los abigarrados centros urbanos de las ciudades históricas, permite calificar este atractivo proyecto destinado a oficinas en el centro de la ciudad de Córdoba. – A sequential strategy that boosts the concept of transparency inherent to the traditional articulations of the crowded urban centres of historical cities qualifies this attractive project intended for offices in the centre of the city of Córdoba.

El tejido urbano del centro de Córdoba se compone de densas manzanas perforadas por una infinidad de patios, que confieren a este lugar el carácter de un espacio nunca del todo conocido. Al adentrarse en el interior de este parcelario, aparece una amalgama de construcciones de épocas diversas en las que lleno y vacío se alternan, dotando de luz, aire y privacidad al interior. Este territorio de luces y sombras queda articulado por toda la colección de espacios intermedios que nutren el acervo arquitectónico meridional. Adarves, zaguanes, pasajes, corredores, patios, galerías, solanas y, finalmente, el paisaje fragmentado de las cubiertas, componen una red de espacios vaciados que se intercalan en la densidad urbana dotando de continuidad al espacio público que acaba por adentrarse en el corazón edificado. En este contexto se ha proyectado la ampliación de unas oficinas situadas en una vivienda de tres plantas. La incorporación de tres nuevos locales, dos en planta baja y uno en la planta superior, sucede sin que apenas se perciba el tránsito entre un ámbito y otro, garantizando así la cohesión final del espacio de trabajo resultante. Planteamos la intervención intentando dibujar sin levantar el lápiz del papel, definiendo un espacio continuo que desde las oficinas originales va serpenteando por el interior de la manzana, atravesando patios, internándose en la densidad edificada, ahuecándose cuando es preciso y asomándose al adarve existente hasta alcanzar la cubierta. Para subrayar esta condición continua del espacio, se ha optado de manera que pavimento, techo y revestimiento exterior se prolonguen a lo largo de la intervención. Un pavimento de hormigón fratasado, elevado y calefactado, atraviesa espacios interiores y exteriores; el techo se resuelve con un panel acústico de listones de madera inserto entre la estructura original de hormigón, que adquiere una nueva expresividad al quedar enmarcada por él; por último, cuando el volumen del nuevo espacio 86 | on 394 | arquitectura / architecture

de trabajo se aboca al exterior para encontrarse con la oficina original en sus diversas cotas, se reviste de planchas de acero galvanizado y se dispone como volúmenes sin apoyos en los patios, subrayando su condición de artefacto autónomo inserto en los vacíos existentes. Las piezas de mobiliario, los ámbitos definidos por el techo acústico y las ventilaciones cruzadas aportadas por los patios acotan sin divisiones los lugares de trabajo, matizando la diafanidad de la planta. La intervención procura potenciar los conceptos de transparencia, secuencia y gradiente, propios de las articulaciones tradicionales de los centros extensos y abigarrados de las ciudades históricas del sur, sin perder de vista la voluntad de coser los espacios disponibles para la ampliación, fragmentados e independientes en un primer momento, y continuos y articulados tras la ejecución del proyecto. El espacio en forma de aire y luz penetra así en la masa edificada, como una materia continua que pertenece a toda la ciudad y queda domesticada en el interior de la manzana. The urban fabric of Córdoba city centre is composed of dense city blocks perforated by numberless courtyards that give this place the character of a space that is never entirely known. When entering into this amalgam of plots, constructions dating from different eras appear in which full and empty spaces alternate, bringing in light, air and privacy. This territory of lights and shadows is articulated by the whole collection of intermediate spaces that feed the southern architectural repertory. Allures, entryways, passages, corridors, courtyards, galleries, sun traps and, finally, the fragmented landscape of roofs compose a network of hollowed-out spaces intercalated in the urban density, giving continuity to the public space penetrating into the built-up heart. This is the context in which was designed the enlargement of a set of offices situated in a three-storey dwelling. The incor-

poration of three new premises, two on the ground floor and one in the upper storey, has happened while leaving barely a trace of the transit between one space and the other, thus ensuring the final cohesion of the resulting workspace. The intervention was designed by trying to draw without raising the pencil from the paper, defining a continuous space that meanders from the original offices through the interior of the block, crossing courtyards, penetrating the built density, opening up when necessary and catching glimpses of the existing allure until it reaches the roof. To underline this continuous condition of the space, it was decided for the floor, ceiling and external cladding to be prolonged throughout the intervention. A floated concrete floor, raised and heated, crosses interior and exterior spaces; the ceiling is an acoustic panel of wooden slats inserted between the original concrete structure, which acquires a new expressiveness when it is framed by it; lastly, when the volume of the new workspace decants into the exterior to meet up with the original office at its different heights, it is clad in galvanised steel sheets and arranged as support-free volumes in the courtyards, underlining its condition as a freestanding artefact inserted into the existing hollows. The pieces of furniture, the spaces defined by the acoustic ceiling and the crossed ventilations produced by the courtyards seamlessly delimit the workspaces, nuancing the openness of the floor plan. The intervention aims to boost the concepts of transparency, sequence and gradient inherent to the traditional articulations of the extensive and crowded centres found in the historical cities of the south, while never losing sight of the resolve to stitch together the spaces available for the enlargement, which were initially fragmented and independent but are continuous and articulated after the project’s execution. The space, in the form of air and light, thus penetrates the built-up mass like continuous matter belonging to the entire city and domesticated inside the city block.

– Este proyecto de nueva sede para el Colegio de Médicos de Álava se caracteriza por su decidida intención de plasmar dos estrategias definidas en su forma de relacionar los espacios exterior e interior. – This project for the new headquarters of the Álava Medical Association is characterised by its decided intention to capture two strategies defined in the way it connects outdoor and indoor spaces.

Icoma es el acrónimo del Ilustre Colegio de Médicos de Álava, la asociación profesional de médicos de la región de Álava en España, y este proyecto presenta su nueva sede. Las nuevas oficinas de Icoma se sitúan en los bajos comerciales de un edificio de viviendas, conectando el espacio de planta baja con el de primera planta. La estrategia de proyecto se basa en la construcción de dos pequeños patios de vidrio que aportan mayor cantidad de luz para la planta baja y que sirven para definir una planta baja libre que aumenta la continuidad visual. Esta operación permite clarificar los recorridos, así como establecer una serie de espacios dinámicos que se contraponen frente a la situación estática de los dos objetos construidos. Dentro del proyecto, destacan dos estrategias principales: por un lado, la que tiene que ver con la relación directa entre lo interior y lo exterior (con la llegada de la luz a un espacio ensimismado) y, por otro, la relación contraria entre lo exterior y lo interior (situando los espacios de trabajo a nivel de calle mediante un velo que les permite conseguir la privacidad requerida). 92 | on 394 | arquitectura / architecture

De hecho, este espacio renovado, a pesar de encontrarse íntimamente relacionado con la calle, no se reconoce como una zona comercial. Una nueva piel de vidrio traslúcido UGLASS proporciona un preciso equilibrio entre lo público y lo privado: esta aparente pero ligera piel establece una singular relación entre el exterior y el interior del edificio; por un lado, desde el interior, la visión fragmentada de la calle permite a los usuarios no perder de vista el contacto visual y sensorial que procede desde el ambiente exterior y, por otro, desde el exterior, la combinación directa entre luz y sombra permite activar de forma abstracta la fachada exterior del edificio en su relación con la calle pública. Por último, la materialidad desempeña un papel primordial. En este sentido, el proyecto explora los límites de la pieza de UGLASS como un elemento estándar capaz de proporcionar soluciones complejas. De esta forma, el uso de la pieza de UGLASS se extiende a lo largo de toda la fachada exterior y por los pasillos interiores, donde aporta una nueva condición atmosférica al espacio in-

terior mediante esta nueva piel de vidrio que es gruesa y ligera a la vez. La calidad interior del espacio se completa con el efecto especular del suelo y del falso techo de madera, así como con los paneles de acero inoxidable que revisten las paredes. Icoma is the acronym for the Illustrious Medical Association of Álava, the professional guild of doctors in the Spanish region of Álava, and this project presents its new headquarters. The new Icoma offices are situated in the ground floor premises of a block of flats, connecting the ground-floor and first-floor space. The project strategy is based on building two small glass courtyards to provide more light for the ground floor and to define an open-plan floor plan that increases the visual continuity. This operation clarifies the routes and establishes a series of dynamic spaces that oppose the static situation of the two built objects. Prominent in the project are two main strategies: on one hand, those that have to do with the direct relationship

between interior and exterior (by bringing light into an inward-looking space) and on the other the opposite relationship between the exterior and the interior (situating the workspaces at street level, veiled so as to give them the required level of privacy). In fact, this renovated space, despite being closely associated with the street, does not recognise itself as a retail area. A new UGLASS translucent glass skin provides a precise balance between public and private: this apparent yet light

skin establishes a singular relationship between the building’s exterior and interior; on one hand, from the interior, the fragmented vision of the street means that the users do not lose sight of the visual and sensory contact of the exterior atmosphere and, on the other, from the exterior, the direct combination of light and shadow activates in an abstract way the building’s exterior façade in its relationship with the public street. Lastly, materiality plays a key role. In this regard, the proj-

ect explores the limits of the UGLASS panes as a standard element capable of providing complex solutions. Thus the use of the UGLASS panes extends along the entire outside façade and along the internal corridors, where it provides the interior space with a new atmospheric condition thanks to this new glass skin, which is both thick and light. The interior quality of the space is completed with the mirror effect of the floor and false wooden ceiling as well as the stainless steel panels that clad the walls.

– Este interesante proyecto, de características icónicas, pretende dar respuesta a un entorno de poca presencia urbana, en el que una atractiva imágen podía facilitar su relación funcional, en tanto que vivero de empresas. – This interesting and iconic project seeks to respond to a setting with little urban presence in which an attractive image would facilitate its functional relationship as a business incubator.

Cuando nos enfrentamos al diseño de este edificio, además de cuestionarnos la relación usuario-edificio, partíamos con varias premisas a tener en cuenta: debía estar ubicado en un nuevo planeamiento urbanístico sin consolidar, para convertirse en un hito activador de la zona, y tendría que poder ejecutarse en un periodo muy breve de tiempo con un presupuesto muy reducido. Para los autores, un Vivero de Empresas ha de ser un lugar en el que las empresas o jóvenes que quieran iniciarse en el mundo empresarial puedan trabajar compartiendo conocimientos, experiencias, ideas, emociones... todo lo que los pueda motivar para no sentirse solos en la aventura de la creación de una empresa. Entendían que la mejor forma de materializarlo es mediante la creación de un espacio dinámico de trabajo, donde se fomenten

las interrelaciones entre los usuarios, en definitiva, un edificio vivo y ágil, que represente el movimiento de una empresa. Se ha diseñado un espacio interior abierto, distribuido mediante una planta escalonada en la que se reparten las diferentes estancias adaptadas a cada uso, envuelto por una doble piel de policarbonato translúcido, que permite intuir lo que ocurre en su interior y que cambia su aspecto según la hora del día, llegando a crear una imagen luminosa de todo el edificio. El edificio se encuentra en el extrarradio del pueblo, ubicado en el límite de la urbanización “Pago Barranco”, lo cual condiciona una respuesta al límite entre lo urbano y lo rural. Consecuentemente el proyecto parte de un edificio escultórico, con diferentes respuestas en cada

uno de sus alzados, que ha de convertirse en el nexo de unión entre ambos mundos (urbano-rural), sin provocar discriminación en su recorrido, aproximándose al pueblo a través del espacio exterior, diseñado como una extensión del edificio, donde se puedan celebrar reuniones, charlas, exposiciones, etc. El proyecto se ha concebido como un edificio que ha de gestionar la energía y los recursos naturales de una forma eficiente, almacenando el agua pluvial para su posterior utilización y optando por un sistema de “pozos canadienses”, como energía renovable para su climatización. El edificio se halla sensorizado, de modo que, con solo activar los pozos canadienses o el sistema de ventilación según sea necesario, responde por sí mismo a las necesidades climáticas.

Para tomar decisiones de diseño, se ha utilizado un software de análisis energético que ha tenido en cuenta su entorno, orientación y necesidades, dando lugar a la forma irregular del edificio, abierto al norte, cerrado al oeste y con un gran voladizo al sur que genera una zona de sombra e indica el acceso principal. When we were faced with designing this building, as well as asking ourselves about the user-building relationship, we took several premises into account: it had to be located in a new, unconsolidated urban planning zone and become a landmark that would activate the area, and it had to be executed in a very short period of time on a very tight budget. For the authors, a business incubator has to be a place where businesses or young people launching their start-ups can work and share knowledge, experiences, ideas, emotions… everything that may motivate them and keep them from feel-

ing alone in the adventure of creating a business. They understood that the best way of realising this was through the creation of a dynamic workspace where relations between users would be encouraged; in short, a living, agile building representing the movement of a business. An open-plan interior space was designed, with a graded floor plan dotted with various spaces adapted for each use, enveloped in a double skin of translucent polycarbonate that gives a glimpse of what is happening inside and which changes its appearance according to the time of day, even creating a luminous image of the entire building. The building is located on the outskirts of the town, on the boundary of the “Pago Barranco” urbanisation, and this led to a response on the limit between the urban and the rural. As a consequence the project created a sculptural building with different responses in each one of its elevations, which become the connecting link between both worlds (urban-rural)

without discrimination, drawing near the town through the exterior space, which was designed as an extension of the building and where meetings, talks, exhibitions and more can be staged. The project was conceived as a building that has to manage energy and natural resources in an efficient manner, storing rainwater for later use and choosing a system of “Canadian wells” using renewable energy for HVAC. The building is sensorized in such a way that, by merely activating the Canadian wells or the ventilation system as necessary, it responds by itself to climate control needs. To take design decisions, we used an energy analysis software that took into account the setting, orientation and needs, giving rise to the building’s irregular shape, which opens up to the north, is closed off to the west and is cantilevered to the south to generate a shaded area that indicates the main entrance.

Santachiara T1-T3 Lámpara LED de sobremesa para luz difusa. El difusor está hecho de vidrio opalino blanco soplado a mano. This table lamp is the result of three years’ work developing features such as solid plastic that is to a large extent biological in origin and recyclable, LEDs and highly qualitative and efficient micro-springs. It uses a new high-performance material that offers the possibility of making large and solid cross sections to provide the desired touch and technical characteristics. There are different types of bases with a choice of four finishes. —

Edición especial constituida por solo 17 ejemplares de la icónica lámpara de escritorio Amuleto, de Alessandro Mendini. Está hecha a mano por Bang-ung Song, uno de los maestros artesanos con más talento del Extremo Oriente. Se necesita un año como mínimo para producir cada pieza, y su diseño ha requerido muchos años de investigación por parte del maestro Song, que ha creado la incrustación lacada reproduciendo el diseño creado por Mendini en las superficies de los tres círculos que unidos forman la estructura de la lámpara, y que respectivamente simbolizan el sol, la luna y la tierra. El proceso de creación es muy meticuloso, con varias fases que requieren una extraordinaria habilidad, precisión y mesurandos.

Se pueden crear modelos monocromos y renovar la imagen del Dress Code a voluntad, o crear imaginativos acabados en dos tonos. —

Desktop lamp comprised of interchangeable pieces in each component, from the articulated head with LED source to the conical, also articulated arm, to the solid circular base. A central aluminium skeleton acts as the base for the “dress”, comprised of pieces that can be detached and replaced with other finishes. Monochrome models can be created and the image renewed at will, or imaginative two-tone finishes can be created.

Special edition comprising only 17 specimens of the iconic desktop lamp Amuleto, by Alessandro Mendini. It is handmade by Bang-ung Song, one of the most talented artisan masters in the Far East. A minimum of one year is needed to produce each piece, and its design required many years of research by Master Song, who created the lacquered inlay by reproducing the design created by Mendini on the surfaces of the three circles that united form the lamp’s structure and which respectively symbolise the sun, the moon and the earth. The creation process is very meticulous, with several phases requiring extraordinary skill, precision and measurands.

Pero, sobre todo, transporta la luz hasta cuatro puntos desde una única conexión. La colección pone en juego cuatro diámetros de pantalla (de 22 a 52cm) y distintas alturas. Su espíritu urbano se refuerza con la gama de colores de las pantallas de aluminio en tres tonos de gris: claro, medio y grafito, más blanco roto. In this lighting proposal, a network of tubes brings to the surface that which is normally concealed, incorporating it as a compositional argument. But above all it transports light to four points from a single connection. The collection brings into play four lampshade diameters (from 22 to 52cm) and different heights. Its urban spirit is reinforced with the range of colours of the aluminium lampshades in three grey hues: light, medium and graphite, plus off-white. Luminarias decorativas, inspiradas en las tradicionales lámparas japonesas Akari.
