Following her eye-popping Billboard Awards performance, which she called “a labor of love, enthusiasm and energized rehearsals,” Paula Abdul shared details about her intense workout routine as she prepares for her new Flamingo Las Vegas residency. “I’m not locked into anything that’s too regimented,” she says. “There are certain workouts that just live on my calendar—yoga, Pilates, and dance fitness. Then there’s what I like to call my freestyle fitness—walking the stairs, hiking, taking my dogs for a walk. Just being outdoors.” And with that Abdul says, “fans can definitely expect non-stop energy” and an emotional show as she runs through her stable of hits. “Both ‘Straight Up’ and ‘Forever Your Girl’ touch my heart now more than ever because they have a family connection with my parents, who both recently passed away,” Abdul reveals. “‘Forever Your Girl’ was my father’s favorite song, and I’ll always be his little girl. My mother got ‘Straight Up’ as a demo from a friend of an acquaintance of hers. She passed it along to me. I love that my parents had a special connection with my music,” she says. “We are united in spirit, and I know in my soul that they’re at every rehearsal and performance.”

In fact, the “Entertainment Capital of the World” started with the Rat Pack, Liberace, Elvis Presley and Wayne Newton all playing the small stages in Las Vegas. Dueling pianists at Napoleon’s Lounge at Paris Las Vegas bring that vintage Vegas vibe back to The Strip as they go head-to-head every night playing audience requests. At the Piano Bar at Harrah’s Las Vegas, identical twins, Kim and Tamara Pinegar, show off their skills nightly, while Big Elvis, Saxman Duo and karaoke singers entertain the afternoon crowd. Daytime crowds can also enjoy live music at Interlude inside The Cromwell. 1 HELL’S KITCHEN TO TAHOE Get fired up Gordon Ramsay fans, HELL’S KITCHEN is coming to Harveys Lake Tahoe. With the Sage Room relocating high atop Harveys, HELL’S KITCHEN will move into the historic space. “I absolutely fell in love with this area from the breathtaking views of the lake to the amazing skiing nearby, Lake Tahoe has it all,” Ramsay says. “It’s a perfect location for a third HELL’S KITCHEN restaurant.”

2 RESPONSIBLE GAMING PROGRAM Caesars Entertainment is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Responsible Gaming program. An industry leader in helping problem gaming, the company established the first national toll-free helpline for players, created a nationwide self-exclusion program, while training employees to recognize players with potential gaming problems.
KANSAS CITY WELCOMES GORDON RAMSAY Gordon Ramsay is bringing his famous beef Wellington and sticky toffee pudding to America’s Heartland. NEVADA’S BEST RESTAURANT IS? BACCHANAL BUFFET
It’s a marriage made in food heaven. Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro is opening a new, fast-casual concept PizzaCake at Harrah’s Las Vegas, and it’s exactly as it sounds. The menu consists of authentic New York-style pizza (sold as whole pies or by the slice), Carlo’s Bakery’s famous cake slices, and over-the-top slices of dessert pizza. It’s also home to the Las Vegas Strip’s first-ever Cake ATM. It’s designed to recreate a typical New Jersey/ New York-style pizzeria with classic furnishings, elements of street art, old-school photos and sounds from Buddy’s personal playlist. The Strip-side eatery will also have a patio and be open late into the night.
Bacchanal Buffet has been rated the top restaurant in Nevada in a new state-by-state survey produced by reviews.org. Yelp ratings and reviews (Bacchanal is nearing 10,000) were used to determine the top restaurants. The Caesars Palace buffet prides itself on both “quality and quantity” with teams of chefs working nine kitchens to push out more than a dozen daily specials and hundreds of dishes like rosemary marinated tri-tip, chilled crab legs, dim sum, and char-grilled Australian lamb.

RAMSAY REMODEL Gordon Ramsay’s very first restaurant in Las Vegas has undergone a facelift. Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris Las Vegas has a revamped menu and fresh modernized look with new furniture, updated artwork, and a must-see visual at the end of the faux Chunnel entrance. The restaurant just celebrated its seventh anniversary.

She’s one of the most famous singers in the world, but even Christina Aguilera still sometimes feels jitters before taking the stage. Then again, there are also times when she’s outright nervous. “One of the performances I was most nervous for was ‘It’s A Man’s World’ at the Grammys,” she recalls, referring to her 2007 performance, which is still considered one of the best

The proverbial butterflies in her stomach were there before she performed at Etta James’ funeral in 2012; they were there when she performed at a Whitney Houston tribute in 2017; and the nerves were there before performing in front of former President Obama in 2018. “I think when you truly respect the material you are performing and the legends that made it great, there is an extra layer of pressure. I don’t take that lightly and aim to do it justice,” she says.
“‘Genie in a Bottle’ means a lot of to me, and to know that the song’s legacy is still celebrated today makes me proud. It’s incredibly challenging to make a record that has longevity in the way that ‘Genie’ has thrived over the years,” she says. “I love performing that song because it’s evident in the audience how much they love hearing it. I always feel at home onstage in general, but this stage at Planet Hollywood has become a real home for me and my crew. It’s hard to explain the energy I experience prior to each show, the rush of adrenaline—but that opening night was a feeling I will never forget, especially owning a new home and making the space my own.” “The Xperience” is Aguilera at her finest, as she takes sellout crowds on a journey throughout her celebrated career, one that’s netted her a slew of accolades and No. 1 hits, including “Genie In a Bottle,” her first true breakout hit, which was released 20 years ago.

audience, be it the motivational “Fighter” or the upbeat and ultra-catchy “Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You).” But her song “Beautiful” from 2002 still tugs at Aguilera’s heart in a different way. “I never get tired of singing ‘Beautiful,’ mostly because of the important message within, and how over the years I’ve learned that song has helped many people overcome personal struggle,” she says, adding. “I’m proud of my catalogue, and while certain songs do carry different meanings and backstories for me as the artist behind them, I realize that they may present important memories and emotions for other people.” Divided into six acts plus an encore, each is marked by its own colors, textures and scents pumped throughout the venue. “For years I have been collecting ideas and concepts that have yet to be implemented on my stages,” she says. “Las Vegas is the perfect opportunity for me to collectively showcase my artistry.”

Over the last 20 years, Aguilera’s songs have been ubiquitous on the radio or in movies. There’s no argument that she’s a bonafide superstar with a generational voice. But to her kids, Max, 11, and Summer, 5, she’s just mom. “Summer and Max know that I am a performer, and they’ve seen me onstage, including at “The Xperience,’” she says. “We haven’t spoken at length about what I have accomplished in my career as the two hats I wear and juggle are very different from mama of the stage and mama at home. They realize that we get to travel the world to perform in special places and are able to experience unique perspectives, and I think it’s important to allow appreciation on a worldly level at a young age.” Her kids certainly know her music, but Aguilera’s tunes aren’t exactly commonplace at home. “That’s not something we play around the house or listen to regularly,” she says. “If they choose to later on in life, then wonderful, but for now they get to listen to whatever music makes them happy. But I do hear Max singing ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ a lot to himself, and [he sings it] very well, I might add.” Whether she’s at home in mom mode or onstage, Aguilera gives it her all. That’s the only way she knows how to do it. As a performer, though, she reaches into her reserve tank a little more in Vegas. “My energy has to be at 100-percent from start to finish. The audience is filled with vacation-goers, not people in their hometowns—for the most part. That said, since most of the crowd is in Vegas for a fun weekend, they want to let loose and feel free and forget about everything,” she explains. “I always bring it for my shows, but in Vegas I have to BRING IT! celebration levels in Vegas. It’s easy to tell when the audience does not have work the next day.” She adds, “Las Vegas is a beast of its own when it comes to energy, excitement and freedom. This city is a playground for adults, and I thrive when that energy is brought into the theater each night.”

For someone of Aguilera’s stature—someone who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an overflowing trophy case and has inspired a younger generation of powerhouse female artists—she really has nothing to prove. But she does have a professional and personal bucket list. “I’ve promised my fans another Latin album, so that’s something I’m working on and promise to put out when it’s ready. And I would love to do another acting role at some point but candidly haven’t been able to focus my efforts on that with the residency and last year’s Liberation album,” she says. “For my personal life, it’s no secret that I love Japan, and I would love to experience living there with my family for a short period of time, something more than a vacation. I love exposing my kids to new experiences, showing them how other cultures and people live in other parts of the world.” As she looks back at her iconic—and still evolving— career, Aguilera is asked about the lessons she’s learned from having been in the spotlight for two decades. “The biggest thing I would tell myself, and all young artists, is that it’s okay to say no and it’s okay to voice your opinion,” she says. “Always remember to keep close the ones who love you unconditionally, and remember to enjoy the moment always. Growing is a constant process.”

You’re celebrating your first anniversary back at Planet Hollywood. How has the experience been? It’s been amazing. Mindfreak changed the direction of magic on television and now my new show has done the same for a live performance. This cuttingedge production is the result of decades of work. It’s a dream come true. You perform dozens of illusions. Do you have a favorite? I don’t. They are kind of like my children. MINDFREAK has so much advanced technology to enhance the audience’s largerthan-life experience that it would be hard to choose just one.

MAGIC
One the most anticipated parts of the show is the levitation. What is it like for you to see how the audience reacts? The new finale levitation has taken me twenty years to design. It is one of the most exciting moments for the audience. I love the skeptics who thought everything they saw on TV was just camera tricks, and then to see their reactions night-after-night as I fly around the stage, go through a ladder, and lift up one of the cast members at the end is incredible. Blowing peoples’ minds never gets old.
In 2005, Criss Angel changed the course of magic with his hit A&E television show Mindfreak. The illusions in the show, which was filmed at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, were a first for television. Now, his MINDFREAK stage show is doing the same.

Established in Bali in 1975, John Hardy dedicated his life to creating fine, handcrafted jewelry. Focusing on authenticity and sustainability, the company has been the go-to for jewelry connoisseurs. Caesars Player sat down with Holly Bonneville Barden, creative director for John Hardy, to hear more about the brand and new boutique at The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace.

John Hardy is renowned for its fine craftsmanship. Explain the unique process. When John Hardy came to Bali in the 1970s he was inspired by the Island’s artisan traditions—which permeates every aspect of the brand today. All of our jewelry is crafted at our workshop in Ubud, Bali where our community of over 700 artisans are dedicated to creating one-ofa-kind handcrafted jewelry using heritage techniques.
John Hardy is known for its sustainable practices. How do you stay so rooted in the community? John Hardy uses reclaimed silver and gold and ensures materials are conflictfree and responsibly produced. Additionally, under our “Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo” initiative we plant seedlongs in Indonesia for every purchase from the collection to offset our carbon footprint.
How intricate is the process to make your iconic chain bracelet? Weaving is important in Balinese culture. Women traditionally weave as part of daily life. Our Classic Chain is 100-percent woven using techniques passed down through generations. It is then annealed, stretched and massed into bracelets, necklaces or rings, which is the reason the chain symbolizes community and human connection.
What excites you about the fall collection? I was inspired by the untamed beauty and elemental forces of Bali’s volcanoes. This led to the introduction of Lahar, which means “lava” in Balinese. The collection unites molten metals and wild diamonds. We wanted to showcase their unique shape and the natural inclusions of icy stones.
