country, legendary acts are now barnstorming The Strip. Journey will rock The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in October, with Madonna coming in for three nights of her Madame X Tour in November. The Colosseum forever changed live entertainment when it opened at Caesars Palace in 2003 to host Celine Dion’s first residency. Her success, of 16 years, helped provide the model for the artist residency of today. Now, The Colosseum is receiving a makeover and adding a new state-of-the-art sound and light system. The massive LED video screen will be increased in size and its resolution doubled. New seating includes a VIP area with bottle and cocktail service for groups of two to 10 people.

HARRAH’S NORTHERN CALIFORNIA DEBUTS Long known for its vineyards and scenic vistas, Amador County visitors now have a new place to play. In May, Harrah’s Northern California welcomed its first guests to the 71,000-square-foot casino, which features 950 slot machines and 20 table games. Unique dining options include Louis Oliver's, a casual, elegant eatery serving local craft beer and wine from nearby vineyards. The casino is located about 32 miles from Sacramento.

The Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series at Harveys wraps up its latest season at the 7,200-seat outdoor amphitheater with concerts by Jackson Browne (August 10), Lionel Richie (August 17), the Steve Miller Band (August 24), Luke Bryan (August 25) and Dave Matthews Band (September 6), before the mountains become snowcapped once more.

One of the country’s original music halls has opened a new location inside Harrah’s New Orleans. In a nod to the NOLA lifestyle, The Fillmore, which has a capacity for 2,200 concert-goers, is decked out with wrought iron gates, clapboard siding and gas street lamps, while the kitchen gives a taste of the Bayou with Creole and Cajun favorites. Owned and operated by Live Nation, scheduled fall performances include: Lizzo (September 7-8), Kacey Musgraves (September 27-28), Stone Temple Pilots (September 29), Tenacious D (October 15) and Incubus (November 26). “In a city where live music abounds from street corners to the stage, The Fillmore is a perfect addition,” said Regional President Dan Real.

Just in time for football season, two new sportsbooks have opened in Atlantic City. Opening on the heels of the completion of the resort's Coastal Tower renovations, The Book at Harrah’s Resort features 3,800 square feet of space and two Fan Caves, while The Book at Wild Wild West at Bally’s spans over 15,228 square feet with theater-style recliners and five Fan Caves. It also has the city’s first-ever selfservice Beer Yourself Beer Bar, allowing guests to pour their own pints with 16 different brews on tap.

DYNAMIC DUO It was originally booked as six-week engagement, but Donny and Marie Osmond loved Las Vegas so much they stretched the short run into a residency of 11 years. Now the duo, who have performed more than 1,300 times at Flamingo Las Vegas since that very first show in September 2008, have decided to end their historic run with a series of performances wrapping up on November 16.
LUCK OF THE IRISH If you happened into O’Sheas Casino on October 10, 2009, you might have caught a band called Imagine Dragons on a small stage among the $5 blackjack and craps tables— not far from university students playing beer pong. Times have changed for the Las Vegas-based band, but not so much for O’Sheas, the popular party hangout on The LINQ Promenade. Now into its 30 th year, the lively spot still stages live music, has low minimum gaming tables and beer pong, not to mention Brian Thomas, aka “Lucky the Leprechaun.” “They were looking for someone to be the face of this fun, funky Irish bar,” said Thomas of his 2005 interview. “We didn’t know what was going to happen, so we tried it out. Now, I’ve been here for 14 years. It’s been a fun ride.”
GET LIT A tree grows in the desert. Well, a 35-foot-tall art installation that resembles one anyway. Covered in 25,000 illuminated leaves with more than 175,000 LED lights that change color and react to music, the ABSINTHE Electric Oak stands at the center of the “Green Fairy Garden,” a pre-show watering hole. It was planted soon after the ABSINTHE host Gazillionaire announced that the wildly popular variety show, with its jaw-dropping comedy and amazing athletic feats, signed a long-term deal to stay at Caesars Palace. “This trippy tree is going to change colors depending on what chemically-adjusted mood I’m in, and what music I’m listening to,” the Gazillionaire joked. “I might even invite Calvin Harris to be my first ever Tree-J.”

LAS VEGAS NATIVE JIMMY KIMMEL RETURNS HOME TO OPEN A COMEDY CLUB ON THE LINQ PROMENADE Jimmy Kimmel has never had trouble asking his celebrity guests questions on his Jimmy Kimmel Live! talk show on ABC, but it was a different story in early April at 1:30 in the morning when he approached a total stranger to ask a question to someone he’d never met. “Is there any way we can go in the house?” Kimmel asked the man, while standing in the driveway of a dimly-lit home a few miles outside of the illuminated Las Vegas Strip. The two-story home that Kimmel was so desperate to get inside of isn’t a tourist attraction, nor does it have any real historical significance—except to him. It’s his childhood home, and Kimmel hadn’t been there in over 30 years. That was, until now.
“I think my favorite moment was going in my old house in the middle of the night, waking up the people who live there and going through the house,” he said. “That’s really an emotional experience for anyone, but to have it on television, it was a lot of fun. It was interesting to look at my childhood from that perspective. Trust me when I tell you that it’s a strange experience.”

CAESAR! KIMMEL’S CONNECTIONS TO CAESARS PALACE Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights on ABC at 11:35 p.m. The late-night talk show features a diverse lineup of guests that include celebrities, athletes, comedians and musical acts, along with comedy bits and his house band—Cleto and the Cletones.
Thanks to his family and friends, Caesars Palace is woven into Jimmy Kimmel’s life almost as much as comedy. Not only did Kimmel’s Uncle Frank work at the hotel for 20 years, but his best friend Cleto Escobedo, who’s in the Jimmy Kimmel Live! band, worked there, as well. “Cleto was like a child prodigy saxophone player,” Kimmel recalled. “He started playing in local bands in Las Vegas, including a band called Santa Fe. They played at Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesars Palace.” Cleto’s father, Cleto Escobedo Sr., is also a saxophone player in the Jimmy Kimmel Live! band. “Cleto’s dad was a room service butler for like thirty-five years at Caesars,” Kimmel said. “Some of my cousin’s worked there, too.” Kimmel’s uncle was so intertwined with Caesars Palace that they had Uncle Frank’s funeral service there. “It just feels like our home hotel in Las Vegas,” Kimmel said. “It also happens to be right down the street from where I grew up.”

And for the first time in 15 years, Gordon Ramsay has filmed his hit FOX television show in Las Vegas. Ramsay made the announcement at the first anniversary party for his HELL’S KITCHEN restaurant at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. There he told guests that he’s planning to film both the 19th and 20th seasons of Hell’s Kitchen at his popular Strip-side restaurant and inside the Caesars Entertainment Studios, where Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has been filmed the past couple years. “We’re looking forward to having the show here,” Ramsay said to cheers from the VIP crowd. “We’re going to be creative with the challenges, the rewards, the punishments, and how to present the show in this atmosphere. We are absolutely going to promote this restaurant, and also Las Vegas. We’ll use a cross-section of Vegas in the show. We are very happy to have it here.”
