ABSTRACT

Design has become a part of our day-to-day life which enhance our lifestyle and provides appropriate living condition. Hence it is important to study design. National Institute of Design imparts knowledge about latest technologies. As a professional discipline, design spans both the art and science, as well as technical understanding of Visual, graphical and industrial skills.

As the knowledge and skills must developed, design is ultimate a process critical thinking and analysis and creating activity. The best way to face the global challenges of 21 century. Creativity increases the imagination power. Today a life which can be nothing without designing according to need of peoples.

The design Industry Contributes the way to overall output of the nation. It also improves overall functionality of area and society. The services by design industries provides entrepreneur to create their products.

The Project is live project proposal at Hyderabad by Department of Industrial Policy and promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, of the Government of India.

The main focus of design will be the academic block. Design education is the field which is neglected in India which having high economy growth.

1. INTRODUCTION The project is a live project proposal at Hyderabad by Department of industrial policy and promotion, Ministry of commerce and Industry, of the Government of India. To provide proper education and training service about Design to the children in Hyderabad. This will be the fourth NID campus in the country. The institute was established in Ahmedabad in 1961 and has its campuses in Gandhinagar and Bangalore, offering graduate and postgraduate diploma courses.

The site is located in Hyderabad, in Telangana. This selected site falls under Hyderabad University. The site is very easily accessible from Old Mumbai Highway road and Gachibowli road. Thus, the accesses to the site become easy and convenience of the Students and staff.

The design education in Telangana is quite developed and it is more active in west Hyderabad region. But there need of certain prime institute to develop the design education in Telangana which will become the center of design in Telangana state.

To understand the use of visual axis, its relation with physical access geometry scale and proportion with Indo Islamic architectural style to work on design of Institute of design.

The Proposal of NID setup in Hyderabad in Hyderabad University over 2 acres. The Campus will provide education for 1000 graduate and undergraduate students with 100 teaching staff and 50 working staff with total population of 1150 people.

NID will provide the below mentioned departments

1.1 WHAT IS NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN? National Institute of design (NID) is one national design institute in India The first building was constructed and established in Ahmedabad in 1961 as main campus. In 2012 it was declared by The Department for Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Government of India confirmed to propose next. NID in Hyderabad and selected University of Hyderabad.

The building will itself follow the Architectural principles and traditional concepts and will enhance the beauty and Design heritage of city.

NID is nationality acclaimed as one of best education field under central government in India, have been successful with the case of the IIITs and IIMs establishing themselves as centers of excellency by act of parliament NID offers professional education program at Bachelor and master level with two faculties and no of Departments.

1.2 NEED AND IMPORTANCE OF THE TOPIC NID is a Institute which functions as an autonomous body under the support in Department of Industrial policy and promotion, Ministry of commerce and Industry, Government of India What is design.? What is design can do?

Design is about progress. It is the conceptualization and creation of new things: ideas, interactions, information, objects, typefaces, books, posters, products, places, signs, systems, services, furniture, websites, and more. Designers imagine and make. They also research and think.

Design is a strategy and it is developing economy in India There are Lack of design Institute with National Importance.

The person which experiences design in his everyday life and in every moment that he lives right form bathroom to bedroom, devices to public spaces. There is not a single element which is not without design.

NID is design Institute which play a key role of crafting a bridge between designers and manufacturer. NID is one of finest education and research Institute.

1.3 WHY NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN IN HYDERABAD? In Hyderabad there are insufficient institutes of design. As seen in University of Hyderabad there are School of studies, school of life science, School of humanities, School of social science, School of Art and communication, School of medical Science and PhD programs but there is no any Design department in university.

Also, Hyderabad is situated in center of Telangana state and having equally distance to major cities. Hyderabad has a rich historical background, temples, churches, masjids and heritage structures but lack of modern and imageability of city NID not only satisfy the educational purpose of Telangana but also will enhance the city as a modern landmark to city and state.

1.4 AIM – To design a New NID campus fully dedicated to design and education with more informal interacting spaces and to provide design intervention for local skill and industries toward economic growth.

1.5 OBJECTIVE – ● To design lively spaces so as to being interaction among student and teachers to make building ideal place for education ● To assure an environment suitable molding young designer to good quality education.

2. LITERATURE REVIEW – 2.1.1 LITERATURE REVIEW NO 1 Title – Creativity in the design process: co-evolution of problem–solution Author – Kees Dorst , Nigel Cross Reference – Article published in Science direct, Volume 22, Issue 5, September 2001 Abstract – Empirical data on design processes were obtained from a set of protocol studies of nine experienced industrial designers, whose designs were evaluated on overall quality and on a variety of aspects including creativity. From the protocol data we identify aspects of creativity in design related to the formulation of the design problem and to the concept of originality. We also apply our observations to a model of creative design as the co-evolution of problem/solution spaces, and confirm the general validity of the model. We propose refinements to the co-evolution model, and suggest relevant new concepts of ‘default’ and ‘surprise’ problem/solution spaces.

Creativity in the design process is often characterized by the occurrence of a significant event the so-called ‘creative leap’. Sometimes such an event occurs as a sudden insight which the designer immediately recognizes as significant, but often it is only in retrospect that the designer (or an observer of the design process) is able to identify a point during the design process at which the key concept began to emerge. Retrospective accounts of creative events in design made by the designers themselves may not be wholly reliable. However, some recent descriptive, empirical studies of the creative event 1,2 have begun to shed more light on this mysterious (and often mystified) aspect of design. Again, writer focuses on these independent studies of creativity in design are necessary in order to develop a better understanding of how creative design occurs. The growing number of protocol studies of design 3–5 tend to be constructed as studies of normal design activity, without any specific intention of looking for creativity.

Studying creative design is seen as problematic because there can be no guarantee that a creative ‘event’ will occur during a design process, and because of the difficulty of identifying a solution idea as ‘creative’. However, in every design project creativity can be found—if not in the apparent form of a distinct creative event, then as the evolution of a unique solution possessing some degree of creativity.

Concluding this article, writer has discussed some indicator to be consider for improvement of design education now a day includes 1. Creativity and definition of the design problem 2. Creativity and originality 3. Modelling creative design as co-evolution 4. Bridges, frames, defaults and surprises

Conclusion– The Article helps in providing the ‘problem-solving’ aspect of design can be described usefully in terms of Maher’s model of the co-evolution of problem and solution spaces, and that the ‘creative’ aspect of design can be described by introducing the notions of ‘default’ and ‘surprise’ problem/solution spaces.

Achyut Kalvinde Abstract – The Traditional Education system of India is not component enough today through it does have a lot that one can learn in terms of design. We need a revolutionary twist in the administration and design of the institute. Indian revolution of education of education should have 3 main factors.

1. Transformation of education of the life and need of nation 2. Continue educational growth and development to meet international standards 3. Make education available for all.

There are four elements that constitute and drive any educational institute. Students, faculty physical facilities and academics programs. The university system today is a complex one and those who believe by the Gurukul. The gurukul proves that the teacher student relation is very critical which cannot be develop well today since they have few hours together.

The student and teacher would be extremely handicapped if it was not the technologically advanced commercial product available for teaching. Teaching is just through the six human senses today it difficult. Design should not only provide amenities as needed bot also mould itself such that teaching can be done using it.

Conclusion – While designing of campus and spaces in it should be connected to each zone, spaces or connectivity in teacher and student. NANYANG TECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY (ART, DESIGN AND MEDIA), SINGAPORE Location – Junction of Nanyang Ave and Nanyang Drive, Singapore Architect – Designed by CPG consultant Buildup area – 20,000 Sqm (5Acre) Construction Type – Reinforced concrete, Glass, Established – June 2006 Introduction The Nanyang School of Art, Design and Media is a school that only provides undergraduate and post graduate studies for courses.

There inter-disciplinary courses are designed to mould creative individuals into outstanding artists, designers, animators, new media performers and even business leaders. In essence, ADM liberate imaginative minds to unleash breakthrough design as an integral part of life.

The best feature of the building is its lush and expansive green roofs.

The site where the building sits is a wooded valley originally intended to be left as a green lung.

To preserve this intention, the design had to integrate not just landscaping, but a green programme that would allow the native vegetation of the site perpetuate.

Surrounding Context ● The University is of 200 hectares located at 81 Nanyang Drive, Singapore ● Front side is facing towards north and rear side facing towards south ● The campus having various departments of Education, Biological, mechanical, etc. ● The site is bounded by University internal road 6m wide on north, east and west

Concept and Planning –

● It has 3 sweeping curves that slopes that interlock. ● A top the interlocking curves forms the green roof. ● The green roof helps to absorb the intense sun and reduce thermal gain within the building. ● The courtyard gives daylight and cooling effect. ● It provides natural light into interior spaces as well as in providing cooling properties from water.

Courtyard effect – ● Reduce energy by absorbing heat provide cooling ● Reduce air pollution & Improve Human health and comfort by reducing heat ● Enhance Stormwater management & water quality

Studios – The studios are placed on the north side and large façade is provided on south side so it provides daylight light in studio. The curve green roof reflects the direct light and help student to do their work.

Circulation – The circulation is provided through passages and aside the reflective pond Landscape The site of Nanyang School of Art, Design and Media ha natural landscape on the side of internal road. The site is also surrounded by dense vegetation on north and south side. Trees are planted inside the divider overall the road. Natural landscape used to enhance the building.

Material The material used in construction for building are Rcc frame structure, sweeping curve green roof supported by beams and glass façade inside courtyard

Double glazed glass facade – The glass having two planes of glazed glass with gap between plane is 6 to 12mm and filled with argon glass

Green Roof – A green roof is covered with grass. The green building having low energy usage and roof act as heat insulator.

Concept and Planning ● Conceptually, the built forms signify themselves as ever growing, extending like biological organisms, personifying growth, environmental stimulation. The built forms largely face the north taking advantage of the best natural light at the same time exposing the building to minimal heat. ● The width of the various academic blocks is kept such that there is sufficient penetration of natural daylight. Between every block is a landscaped courtyard.

Inference ● Building zoning is planned in U shape facing towards north direction for taking more natural light from north. ● Amphitheater is designed in center of campus near the waterbody to get a natural water view. ● Parking is distributed so that there will be no crowd of vehicles

5. SITE SELECTION – 5.1 GOVERNMENT PROPOSAL FOR NID CAMPUS Anand Sharma laid the foundation stone of the National Institute of Design (NID) here. The NID Hyderabad, which is coming up on 30 acres of land on the University of Hyderabad campus at a cost of Rs. 155 crores, is expected to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses from 2015-16 for 1000 students. This will be the fourth NID campus in the country. The institute was established in Ahmedabad in 1961 and has its campuses in Gandhinagar and Bangalore, offering graduate and postgraduate courses in 18 disciplines.

5.1.1 JUSTIFICATION ABOUT SITE SITE APPROCH – ➢ The site is located near SBI Inspection and audit department and surrounded by residential zone like apartments, flats. ➢ The site has road access from north side Old Mumbai road (Gachibowli road) and another from campus internal road. The site is close to entry gate of university campus so it is easy for service route from backside. ➢ Primary health care Serilingampally is in northside of campus which is about 5 km. ➢ Site has existing overhead tank which can be used as water storage for NID campus ➢ Gachibowli is well connected by roads to another IT hub – HITECH city which is about 5km , and also to the rest of the city. Gachibowli is a suburb of Hyderabad located in the Serilingampally Mandal of the Rangareddy district. It has a vast area and is dotted with rocky surface and hillocks all around.

5.1.2 SELECTION CRITERIA AND SELECTION – ➢ Considering existing site area of 10,174 sqm out of proposed area of 50,000 sqm for NID in Hyderabad University. ➢ According to census 2011, Hyderabad is among the top 10 dense cities of India. Also, the city is one of the major technological hub of India, along with Bangalore, with many IT companies. Hyderabad is an epicenter of work-oriented public who accomplish their demanding schedule and drive toward malls as a recreational zone. ➢ As comparing all institutes in India there is lack of design institute in India, after analyzing the graph from India design report we can say that there is need of National institute of design in Hyderabad. ➢ The student is Hyderabad having large distance to travel the main campus of NID for education

2. Weakness – Immediate view from the site.

The site is attached to main highway so the there is chance of disturbance. Large amount of wild growth vegetation on the site.

3. Opportunity – Scope of creating buffer area.

Existing road widths need not be changed to design/propose institute at the site.

4. Threat – Site proximity with L- junction road may create traffic connection if not planned properly.

Future Growth around the site will affect the visibility of the site.

5.2.6. SITE STUDY OF HYDERABAD UNIVERSITY – Orientation – Site is facing north east towards road side Main road Network – There is 12 m two lane highway (Prof CR Road) which connects to Nehru outer ring road of Hyderabad Topography – The site is relatively plane with gently slope.

EXISTING CONDITION OF PROPOSED SITE – The area around site is developed land with development land with department on south west and apartment, hotels on north east side. There are high rise building in front on the site on north east direction. 6.4 CONCEPT AND FORM EVOLUTION – The concept behind the design is to create a buffer area with a canteen and parking space to avoid a direct access from highway to campus and also connecting open spaces and landscaped courtyards to form sense of unification.
