We are in much appreciation of God’s unending faithfulness to Saint John Baptist Church. We share in your sense of celebration, and we thank you for your 120 years of ministry, service, and furtherance of the Gospel of Christ in our community. We look forward to seeing how God continues to bless you in the future!
Matthew 16:18

Greetings in the wonderful name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To God be the glory for all the things He has done.. With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate 120 years of faith, fellowship, and favor in the life of Saint John Baptist Church. What a blessing it is to witness your steadfast dedication and faithful service in advancing the Kingdom of Heaven. It is my prayer that we continue to live out our motto—“An Extraordinary Church with Exceptional Care”—as we lead others to Christ for salvation and continue molding ministries that truly matter. May our work together continue to impact, inspire, and influence—helping our church remain strong and healthy, our community vibrant, and our city a shining reflection of God’s love.
We are deeply grateful for the wisdom and strength of the pillars of our community of faith, especially Pastor and Lady Delaney. May God continue to uphold you with His mighty power. In conclusion, for the beautiful days ahead and the difficult burdens we’ll bear; know that as long as Christ be for us greater blessings we shall share! With immense love and care,

WHAT WAS 1905’S HOTTEST CHURCH NEWS? It was good news about a strange birth without a birth certificate, a noble birthright in an unusual birthplace, and a Divine birthmark with topaz birthstones. It was noised about that the third Afro-American Church of Wichita Falls was born in November, 1905. It was conceived in God’s bosom, and founded upon the “Rock of Ages.”
Saint John was visualized by chartered members, organized by The Reverend W.M. Massey in the borrowed quarters of Titus Chapel C.M.E. Church at 206 Park Street (renamed Gilbert Memorial C.M.E Church at 713 Redwood), held its first worship service, and named b Mrs. Lizzie Richardson. humble birth of Saint John Baptist Church.

The small 201 Brick, initiated a roperty. Two trustees, Andrew papers, were instrumental arwise and Granger and William A small frame , this house of worship rship on the same lot. The ashington resigned. Armed with faith in God, a brush arbor was erected on the lot for worship.
On September 22, 1913, a lot was purchased at a cost of $550 at 301 Park and Garden. A basement was built at this location under the leadership of the Reverend L.S. Arthur. In 1917, the basement bloomed into a beautiful two-story brick veneer edifice under the leadership of the Reverend M.K. Curry, Sr. A four-room house behind the church was also purchased as the first parsonage. The Reverend L.S. Arthur (1913 until 1916), a basement was built at the new location. In 1919, the Reverend A. L. Wright ministered as the ninth pastor.
In 1921, the Saint Matthew Baptist Church was born from Saint John Baptist Church to meet the needs of the Kemp Addition. In 1924, a twostory parsonage was built at 423 Welch. Seven lots were also purchased at several locations for future growth and expansion under the leadership of Rev. M.K. Curry, Sr. In 1931, the Reverend Moses P. Timms ministered as the eleventh pastor and served nine years. It was under his leadership that in 1940, the Antioch Baptist Church was born from Saint John Baptist Church.
In April 1951, the Reverend Louis B. (L.B.) George guided the Saint John Family He inspired the congregation to sell the two lots a Denison and Galveston for $1000 and built a Child Care Center at 421 Welch Street and kicked off a building fund drive for a new church. “Friendship bonds were sold for $5.00 each. Between 1946 and 1951, a recreational park was established on Sullivan Street. The church grew under Reverend L.B. George’s leadership until his Call to Mount Zion Baptist Church, Amarillo, Texas in 1955.
Seven ministers were licensed for the work of the Gospel Ministry from 1906 through 1955. They were the Reverends: Matthew, Harris, Dr. Sandy F. Ray, Milton K. Curry .M. Moore, and Willie M. Young.

In 1955, the began. He immediately conducted a religious census to church movement. The The building fund, instated expressway (now Marin This sale increased the lots were purchased at edifice was dedicated at 1009 Flood Street under the leadership of the late Reverend L.D. Bell. Reverend M.K. Curry returned to give the dedicatory sermon.
In February of 1967, Reverend Billy R. Delaney (16 Pastor) accepted the challenge of leading the Saint John Family. A few tangible and spiritual blessings include: the erection of a new parsonage at #2 Bristol Lane in 1969; a “do-it-yourself” interior decoration project of the present edifice; addition of a 4,000 sq. ft. Learning Center in 1979; purchased a Church Van; launched the Outreach Tape Ministry; organized the Children’s Church Ministry; established the Scholarship & Awards Ministry; installed a steeple and automated chimes, installed a computer system and modern office equipment; installed an underground sprinkling system; equipped the nursery with nursery cribs, TV & VCR; purchased synthesizer with donated funds, purchased thirty-one real properties, opened the Student Annex Center on Tulsa Street, organized a praise dance team, and broke ground for a parking lot. In addition to the tangible spiritual blessings, the Saint John Family has been blessed with spiritual souls added to the flock. The church family established a church service exchange program with Faith Baptist Church. In 2009 the Mortgage for the Church Parking Lot was burned. After serving the congregation for 54 years faithful and spirit filled, Rev. Delaney retired. During his tenure, the church experienced growth spiritual, numerical and financially. th
In November 2021 God sent Rev. JaVoski Ervin to shepherd the flock. Young and energetic, we are moving forward. Many souls have been added to the church. The work for the Historical Marker was begun under the leadership of Rev. Delaney and was erected under the leadership of Rev. Ervin. Mrs. Barbara Young was instrumental in getting the marker placed on the front yard.
Since 1973, ministers licensed for the work of the Gospel Ministry are the Reverends: Don Phillips*, Roy Lee Brown*, Willie Hall*, Charlie Cade, Jr., Kerry Thomas; licensed and ordained are Roy L. Vasher*, Raymon Otey, Mark A. Booker, Judge E. Smith, Jr., and Dr. Paul R. Delaney.
