SHOW DAILY DAY TWO

Tuesday 13 February

EGYPS OPENING CEREMONY WELCOME TO EGYPT’S GREAT MOMENTUM OF SUCCESS In line with Egypt’s commitment to modernise the oil and gas sector and become a strategic energy hub, Cairo launched the second edition of the Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2018) under the High Patronage of His Excellency Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and support of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. EGYPS’ Official Opening Ceremony, held on Monday 12 February at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre’s Al Manara Hall, highlighted the country’s keenness to promote a revolution of data and information, guarantee safety and security for all petroleum sector’s employees, empower female participation in the energy industry, and improve the skills of young professionals and future leaders. The Opening Ceremony was attended by H.E. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi; Egypt’s Prime Minister, Sherif Ismail; Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla; the Secretary General of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, and a number of ministers, deputies, and executive leaders. During the Opening Ceremony, OPEC’s Sanusi Barkindo delivered a speech in which he praised Egypt’s consistent presence in the oil and gas market. As the secretary general well reminded, when Egypt hosted the first Arab Petroleum Congress in April 1959, key visionary leaders from petroleum producing countries gathered secretly at the Cairo Yacht Club to discuss the foundations of a strong organisation of petroleum exporters, leading to OPEC’s establishment in 1960 – to which Egypt became an observer in 1984. Sanusi Barkindo’s reminder illustrates Egypt’s position as an important driver of insights and a valuable player to unlock prospects and reach new achievements in the oil and gas sector. In this line, OPEC’s secretary general highlighted the strategic importance of EGYPS 2018 in bringing together petroleum experts from all over world, adding that the future of the industry relies on cooperation, with Egypt playing a significant role on the sector’s successful journey. OPEC’s secretary general further thanked the Egyptian president for advancing the development and prosperity of Egypt, extending his gratitude to minister Tarek El Molla for attending the last OPEC meeting in Vienna last November.

IN ORDER TO CONTINUE LAST YEAR’S SUCCESS, THE MINISTER ANNOUNCED FIVE NEW INITIATIVES TO INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY OF PERFORMANCE IN OIL AND GAS ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACT INVESTMENTS IN 2018.

El Molla subsequently praised the president’s high patronage on EGYPS’ editions, stressing the support given by the political leadership to the oil and gas sector and its impact on the achievements recorded during the past four years. The minister further pointed out that the conference is witnessing great momentum and international presence due to the success of the first edition, noting EGYPS 2018’s significant expansion in size, attendees, panels and discussions compared to the previous year. El Molla added that EGYPS is one of the implementation elements of the Ministry of Petroleum's strategy to welcome international cooperation in Egypt’s journey towards becoming an energy hub. In parallel with the government’s daring economic reforms, Egypt’s oil and gas sector has embarked in a new era of strategies to overcome chronic challenges that have been shadowing the industry, which resulted in unprecedented successes in 2017. Achievements included four major natural gas projects coming online - adding 1.6 billion cubic feet of gas per day, representing 40% of Egypt's production – such as the projects of the first phase of Northern Alexandria, experimental operations at Atoll, and production increase from Nooros. Additionally, the ministry launched a 2D seismic survey at the untested Red Sea waters, which was possible thanks to the demarcation of the maritime border with Saudi Arabia. In order to continue last year’s success, the minister announced five new initiatives to increase the efficiency of performance in oil and gas activities and attract investments in 2018. The first initiative consists of cooperating with international companies engaged in marketing petroleum products, aiming to Continued in page 3

improve the quality of fuel and offering a new gasoline product to cope with modern developments. The second initiative announced was an agreement to conduct seismic surveys in the Gulf of Suez, which still has great exploration and production (E&P) potential to attract foreigner investment and increase the country’s reserves. The third initiative is the signing of a memorandum of understanding with a consortium of leading international companies to establish the Egyptian Gateway for Exploration and Production, a geological information centre to promote research in areas offered by the ministry. El Molla pointed out that the fourth initiative is related to improving the E&P efficiency of joint ventures and international companies operating in Egypt, aiming at lowering operations costs. Meanwhile, the fifth initiative consists of launching an electronic portal to enhance communication between workers, serving as a reliable source of information, allowing the exchange of experiences and ideas, and enriching the spirit of teamwork within the sector. Ell Molla added that the projects of developing refineries, transmission lines, and distribution of petroleum products and infrastructure from storage depots and ports have been carried out in the framework the Modernisation Program,

in addition to issuing the Gas Market Regulation Law in August 2017. The minister further reiterated the commitment of the State to pay the dues of foreign partners and create an attractive working environment for investment. “The Minister's speech is highly reassuring as he stated the previous successes achieved in EGYPS 2017. It gives confidence to the investors to reassure them that the general management of the country is behind all the agreements and their commitments," Mahmoud Shawkat, Director Sales and Marketing North Africa at Baker Hughes, disclosed on the sidelines of the Opening Ceremony. “All the firms came [to EGYPS] wanting to operate in Egypt, and I think the announcement of these successful stories were the biggest encouragement showing healthy investment climate in the country,” Abed Ezz el Regal, Head of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, added. The Opening Ceremony was concluded with H.E. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s tour at EGYPS’ Exhibition Halls. EGYPS 2018 counts with over 500 exhibiting companies and 12 country pavilions, giving visitors the opportunity to learn from different companies worldwide and expand business prospects. The conclusion of the Opening Ceremony set the official start of EGYPS’ Strategic and Technical Conferences, welcoming over 15,000 visitors to its mindset-rich halls.

FRUITFUL LAND FOR PRIVATE INVESTMENT AN INTERVIEW WITH

PLATINUM SPONSOR

ALI RASHID AL JARWAN, DRAGON OIL’S CEO The private sector represents a solid ground in Egypt’s economic path. Given its remarkable presence, the oil and gas industry has built key partnerships for private investment and has invited prominent international oil companies (IOCs) to build the foundations of its prosperous energy market. The welcoming environment recently encouraged the privately held and wholly owned subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Dragon Oil, to bet its cards in the Egyptian resources. Dragon Oil has successful exploration and production (E&P) operations in Africa and Asia. The company operates in Turkmenistan, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt, both in the oil and gas sectors. Egypt Oil & Gas sat with Ali Rashid Al Jarwan, the company’s CEO, and discussed Dragon Oil’s operations and aspirations for exploration, development, and production in the Egyptian oil and gas domains. Current Operations The interview began with a brief overview of the company’s activities and expectations in Egypt. Dragon Oil fully owns the East Zeit Bay offshore concession, located southern the Gulf of Suez. The concession covers an area of 93 square kilometers and lies in shallow waters ranging in depth from 10 to 40 meters. “We are in the process of starting high resolution 2D seismic and our commitment is to drill two wells,” Al Jarwan disclosed. “We still have to explore, and although we do not expect a major discovery, we hope that we come out with a discovery good enough for us to expand,” he added. Expansion Goals When asked about what attracts Dragon Oil to Egypt, Al Jarwan affirmed that the company sees the country as prospective for the future of oil and gas. “Egypt is really diversified in terms of natural resources, and we would like to stay. We need the government’s guidance and we look at being a good partner, assessing technicalities, geology, and prospects, in order to build something that contributes to the economy of Egypt.” East Zeit Bay is the company’s initial entry in the Egyptian market and Dragon Oil looks forward to be involved in future rounds of bidding. “Onshore, we are interested in the Western Desert; so we will be involved in the new offers of the government in the area,” he disclosed. In order to strengthen the company’s operations in Egypt, Al Jarwan highlighted the government’s role in facilitating the private participation in the oil and gas sector. “Previously, our challenge [in Egypt] consisted of mobilizing resources, as well as some approvals that took a long time. However, we appreciate the government’s

aspiration to do things quickly and with less routine, which helps us. It is a combination of our efforts and the government’s.” Market Advantages Moving on, Egypt Oil & Gas asked about the advantages Dragon Oil brings to overcome the highly competitive market. “Now we are going through a transformation to improve our capabilities, so we have world-class expertise, exploration, reservoir development, drilling, and project management,” the CEO answered. He further explained that Dragon Oil has become a cost-effective company, which, as a commercial enterprise, looks at increasing its profit making. “Since we were established on commercial bases, profitability is a key factor and driver for us. Our company’s character relies on agility, so we go fast to our target with an integrated team. We develop good understanding of the prospect and we manage any challenges we have.” Additionally, the company adopted an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework in 2012 and developed a methodology to reduce and mitigate potential business risks in the execution of the company’s strategies. “We have a good risk management developed for each region. Our business risk factors could be technical, where we mobilize our best resources to analyze the problem, or they could be economical. In this case, we manage the economic uncertainty and cost management through innovation,” he explained. Dragon Oil’s is a global and innovative company, which is achieved through a diversified team with an international workforce, Al Jarwan pointed out. “It creates a good environment for managing and for challenges. We believe innovation is key to manage challenges, including adequate cost

management, always making sure we maintain the profitability.” When it comes to innovation, Dragon Oil’s Head believes Egypt is a fruitful land. “We are happy to see the professional strength of the Egyptian people. There is a lot of great minds in technology,” he stated. Private Sector Participation When asked about how the private sector can contribute to the petroleum industry in Egypt, Al Jarwan stressed that “eventually, the private sector will bring sustainable impacts to the flourishing economy.” According to him, the Egyptian government has showed encouragement and cooperation with private companies and consistent measures to encourage new partnerships. “Everything starts with collaboration, and we believe that Egypt has the right environment and encouragement to the private sector right now. I believe there is a lot of potential for contributions and economic impact by opening up to private companies like Dragon Oil.” In closing, Al Jarwan reaffirmed the company’s commitment to its E&P operations in Egypt. “We aim to improve quality and use innovative technologies to open up and unlock potential for oil production. What we hear from the government is that they are promoting and engaging more serious companies, as Dragon Oil. We are ambitious to explore, produce, make business, and contribute to the Egyptian economy.”

Egypt is really diversified in terms of natural resources, and we would like to stay. We need the government’s guidance and we look at being a good partner, assessing technicalities, geology, and prospects, in order to build something that contributes to the economy of Egypt.

HALLIBURTON TACKL TECHNOLOGIES AND

COLLABORATION DRIVE OFFSHORE SUCCESS

Deepwater exploration and development presents some of the industry’s biggest challenges—and greatest potential rewards. The logistics of producing hydrocarbons from extreme water depths, complex geological formations and HP/HT environments require specialized knowledge and technology to safely and economically develop these assets. As the environment demands huge investments in capital and long-term commitment through cycles, Halliburton is focused on reducing uncertainty and increasing reliability in these challenging reservoirs. With an extensive track record in offshore plays throughout the Middle East and North Africa, and in basins around the world, Halliburtoncollaborates with customers to engineer solutions that maximize their asset value and deliver increased production at lower costs-per-foot. Reducing uncertainty and increasing reliability offshore requires a comprehensive approach including applying advanced reservoir analysis to fully investigate a prospect’s source, risk mitigation and contingency planning, new technologies to save

expensive rig time, data management software to process real-time downhole information and experts with local knowledge of the environment. Advanced completions are an important technology helping operators reliably produce reservoirs at the lowest possible overall cost. As the service industry moves toward greater efficiency and tighter collaboration with E&P companies, Halliburton’s advanced completions platform leverages core completion strengths to drive a step change in efficiency for our customers. Several capabilities within multilateral technology, sand control and intelligent completions help operators maximize well performance to lower their cost per barrel.Through reservoir insight we provide the level of understanding to develop the optimum completion design to reliably meet expectations. Halliburton developed the SmartPlex® downhole control system to address a market need for multizone completions to improve reservoir performance and reduce operator costs related to installation and control of the multi-zone solution. The system

remotely activates downhole control devices using electro-hydraulic control lines from surface and the multi-drop system provides simple and reliable zonal control of up to 12 interval control valves in a single wellbore, with a minimum number of the control lines. It also offers the ability to selectively open and close different sets of valves, reducing uncertainty and increasing reliability. Operators can also benefit from increased well exposure to optimize their completion activities. Halliburton’s FlexRite® Multibranch Inflow Control (MIC) System helps provide significant additional per well exposure which reduces development costs saving valuable rig time and improving overall field economics. This reduction in infrastructure is particularly important in sensitive developments calling for a small environmental footprint. An operator recently installed eight FlexRite multilateral systems in an offshore field which delivered 16 lateral production wellbores. As a result, the operator reduced their well count by half and placed the reservoir on-line with much lower capital expenditures.

THE IMPORTANCE OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS IN TRANSFORMING THE GLOBAL ENERGY LANDSCAPE EGYPS 2018 offers its attendees two days of high-level Strategic Conference, enabling petroleum industry’s global business leaders to actively discuss the successful development and growth of the industry, promote strategic partnerships, investment opportunities and enhance industry collaboration in the region and globally. The first day of the conference witnessed a series of strategic sessions, tailored towards new paths to strengthen strategic integration between different stakeholders. Global Energy Outlook Robert Gardner, Manager of the Economics & Energy Division and the Corporate Strategic Planning Department for ExxonMobil, spoke in the first session of the Strategic Conference, entitled “Global Energy Outlook and Transition: Revising Energy Fundamentals, Adjusting Projections, Analysing New Trends and Identifying Global Shifts.” He detailed ExxonMobil’s recently released Outlook for Energy report. The report was optimistic about the future of the oil and gas industry, highlighting the unprecedented growth of the middle-class as an underpinning factor of the positive projections. “With more free time and disposable income, the middle-class continue to provide demand through their ever growing need for transportation - notably international air transportation - and growing consumption,” Gardner stated. The report predicted that the current changes being made in environmental policy will see CO2 emissions peak in 2040 and begin to decline thereafter. Gardner attributed this prediction to a number of factors, namely the increase in demand for natural gas over oil in all sectors, as natural gas has a lower carbon output. He also cited that improvements being made in transportation design, the increasing lightness of vehicles with the use of sturdy plastics, and engine efficiency improvements being made through hybridisation technology all contribute to the report’s predications for emission levels.

Strategic Session - Ministerial Panel

In response to a question about the challenge electrical cars pose to the industry, Gardner said that by 2040, 150-200 million electric cars will be in use, which will be a commendable in terms of energy efficiency. However, despite their increase in use, electric cars will not hinder the oil and gas industries, as the electricity used by the cars will need to be generated. He added that, by 2040, only 25% of oil and gas production will go towards transportation, and the remaining 75% will be utilised in other industries.

Gardner stated that “by 2040, oil demand will have increased by 20% to reach between 115 and 120 million barrels per day (current demand levels are around 100 million barrels per day) … half this increase will be from the transportation industry and the other half from chemicals industries.”

Finally, Gardner said that the world’s dependence on energy does not seem to be wavering; therefore, oil and gas will continue to play an important role in the energy industry, consequently continuing the investment needed to maintain levels of production.

He further noted that natural gas has the highest growth rate out of fossil fuels. However, non-fossil fuels are the fastest growing of all fuel sources. He stated that, by 2040, wind and solar power will make up 20% of global electricity production. Despite this, Gardner affirmed that the roles of oil and gas will remain vital to the industry.

The second session, entitled “Ministerial Panel: Inspiring, Leading and Creating Opportunities that will Transform the Global Energy Landscape,” included a discussion between four African ministries of petroleum and energy. The session addressed matters of supporting global progress to create collaboration and partnerships that help drive forward the global energy industry, foster progress, create new policies, and provide encouragement. Developing international frameworks to create growth, sustainable development and opportunity to help overcome country specific and industry challenges was also one the main discussion points. In addition, the session tackled implementing, structuring, and integrating visionary global initiatives that empower and optimise the oil and gas sector, strengthening the industry’s economic fundamentals and achieving a sustainable and successful energy future.

In response to a question from the session moderator about how the industry keeps up with constantly advancing technology, Gardner responded by saying that the biggest changes needed have been in the workforce, to employ people capable of undertaking large scale digital processing utilised by the industry today. He also stated that technological changes have greatly increased the cost of operations. On the importance of efficiency to both the industry and the consumers, Gardner affirmed that efficiency is the most important field of research, detailing that the highest priority advancements being worked on are to do with efficiency for both consumer and freight vehicles, as wells as increasing the efficiency of electrical supply through improving the infrastructure of electrical grids to not unnecessarily loose electricity.

ADDRESSING TECHNICAL ANGLES IN EGYPT'S BIGGEST OIL, GAS EVENT

In line with Egypt’s ongoing plans to attract oil and natural gas investments and develop its energy sectors, EGYPS 2018 Technical Conference kicked off on Monday 12 February with a series of technical topics addressing agreements, technologies, and new approaches in oil and gas. "The technical conference is a good chance to exchange successful stories and learn from the flaws committed by others. This exchange of ideas and of what each operator has reached will benefit all the attendees and can definitely increase E&P opportunities," Abded Ezz El Regal, Head of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), commented. Egypt’s ambition for the gas sector is not limited to meet the domestic demand or starting exporting; it further aims to process its gas products so it can make more profit out of it. In this line, EGYPS’ first day further included two technical conferences about gas processing technology and operations. British Ambassador to Egypt, John Casson, stated his belief that it is important for Egypt to consider gas processing. “Part of moving from short-term stability to longterm success is extracting real value from Egypt. The oil and gas sector is not just about exports and dollars, it should be about building an industrial base for Egypt,” he stated. Casson further noted gas processing and oil refinery will further contribute to decreasing unemployment in Egypt. “The most important thing for the future of Egypt is to find jobs for Egypt’s fantastic young populations, so we need to develop the value that we can get from the energy sector as an industrial base for Egypt,” he added. The Technical Conference further included two sessions comprising six presentations focusing on the operation excellence, maintenance, and HSE, bringing together leaders in the industry from different parts of the world.

“The production now is stable, but what we look for now is how to maintain the stations, and how to rehabilitate it completely, as well as assigning needed equipment to make it sustainable for 20 years or more,” Mohamed Reda, General Manager at Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO), disclosed. The deep-water and drilling has been limited in Egypt due to high cost over the past period. However, as new technologies surface, opportunities increase. In this regard, Ehab Attia, Assets Leader of ENI, commented, “When we used to drill in deep water, high pressure and high temp reservoir, we faced stuck and blow out. Now things are much better, safety wise.”

Maturity of fields is another challenge faced by companies in the Egyptian Oil and Gas sector. “Most fields are mature and were discovered decades ago. The main issue here is low-production profile that comes as a result of this aging and maturity of fields. So we are focusing on how to rejuvenate those fields,” said Mostafa Kortam, Reservoir Engineer Belayim Petroleum Company (Petrobel). He further affirmed that Egypt has available solid technologies and experience; however, there is a lack of integration among key players. “We have different partners, operators, and cultures. We have to share interest and knowledge, and I believe there is a great opportunity in this conference to help us integrate, attract foreign investments, and expose our work globally”, Kortam added.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR THE FUTURE OF EGYPT IS TO FIND JOBS FOR EGYPT’S FANTASTIC YOUNG POPULATIONS, SO WE NEED TO DEVELOP THE VALUE THAT WE CAN GET FROM THE ENERGY SECTOR AS AN INDUSTRIAL BASE FOR EGYPT

GRIGORIS STERGIOULIS, CEO, HELLENIC PETROLEUM In October 2017, Hellenic Petroleum joined forces with Total and Edison with the granting of E&P rights to the Ionian Sea’s Block 2. How important is this partnership for fast-tracking the production of Greece’s hydrocarbons resources? We strongly believe that systematic exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon reserves in Greece is a historic task for the country. With rising global energy demand trends up to 2040, and solid projections that oil and gas will continue to hold a sizeable percentage of the energy mix, the quest for new oil and gas reserves lingers on. As part of our growth strategy, we have decided to play a leading role in this area where we hold a significant competitive advantage: our knowledge of the Greek geology. Hellenic Petroleum is no stranger to joining forces with reputable foreign companies to perform E&P activities. We are currently acting as an operator in a joint venture with Edison for the Patraikos Gulf Block, whereas in the recent past we participated in international consortia in the areas of West Obayed and Mesaha in Egypt. We firmly believe that teaming up with other players having extensive experience and possessing expertise on certain aspects, such as deep-water exploration, not only increases the chances of a positive outcome, but will also help to attract the interest of prospective investors, should the results of test-wells are promising. We intend to continue along that path, as Hellenic Petroleum is currently investigating prospects of collaboration with major oil and gas companies to participate in the bid for two offshore blocks Southwest and West of Crete. What about the downstream side of the business? How is Hellenic Petroleum working to ensure profitability and efficiency in line with EU compliance costs and environmental standards that North African, Middle Eastern and Asian refiners are exempt from? EU refineries in the East Mediterranean have to operate in an area where there is no level playing field, and be confronted by competitors who abide to a leaner environmental and regulatory set of rules. The heavy burden imposed upon East Med refineries stems primarily from higher

energy prices and increased compliance costs, as a result of stricter environmental standards compared to MENA and Asian refineries. The average cumulative cost of the different pieces of legislation in between 2000-2012 has reduced the competitiveness of the EU refining sector by 25% in terms of decline in the observed net margin. According to most recent data, the competitive disadvantage of EU refineries vs. non-EU export oriented refineries is estimated around 3.6 $/bbl (1.3 $/bbl on energy terms, 0.6 $/bbl on maintenance costs plus another 1.7 $/bbl related to EU-only regulatory costs). It is interesting to stress that just a couple of years ago the competitive gap was close to 5 $/bbl, due to the heavier impact of energy cost when crude was close to 100 $/bbl.

infrastructure and supply corridors, ensuring universal conformance with environmental legislation, and fully committing to climate and energy policy framework, with a view towards a competitive, low-carbon economy. The forthcoming change of marine fuel sulphur specification by IMO in 2020 will provide a good opportunity for policy makers and industry people to come together and find ways to ensure the highest level of conformance, and agree upon measures that will prevent weak enforcement of the law.

In our view, the only way to stay in business and ensure profitability and economic viability is through operational excellence. The road to excellence is long and requires devotion, determination and above all team effort. In that context, Hellenic Petroleum has long adopted a policy of continuous improvement, focusing on meticulous monitoring of key performance indicators and participating in various benchmark studies to measure ourselves against the trend setting peers. These parameters are carefully reviewed throughout the year on a regular basis, whilst raising the bar for each subsequent year to ensure that the company’s competitiveness is sustained and not eroded away. Being consistent to this concept, we have assigned higher efficiency targets for 2018 on all business units, covering aspects such as energy consumption, operational and mechanical availability of equipment, safety performance, personnel productivity, cost reduction, etc. In your opinion, how to further enhance continuous collaboration between all the Mediterranean countries? What potential partnerships do you see on the horizon across both upstream and downstream? In our opinion, it is crucial that Mediterranean countries take initiative to shape and agree upon a common set of energy policy principles and work together towards its implementation in an effort to reach a common ground, such as improving the coordination of national energy policies; supporting the development and further expansion of energy

It is the first time that Hellenic Petroleum participate in EGYPS 2018 and I’m looking forward to joining the active discussions on future collaboration opportunities regarding the development of the oil and gas industry regionally and globally, and in seeking ways to further enhance partnerships between Greece and Egypt.

As far as partnerships are concerned, besides the E&P sector, we believe that there are great opportunities in the development of Renewable Energy Sources, as well as in the transportation & infrastructure of gas and power. Both these sectors will contribute substantially towards increasing Europe’s energy security, rendering it more energy sufficient and less vulnerable to energy supply disruptions. Hellenic Petroleum are attending the Egypt Petroleum Show for the first time. Can you tell us how important is the EGYPS annual meeting platform for the industry and what are you most looking forward to at the Show? We consider Egypt Petroleum Show a major event for the oil and gas community of the entire Mediterranean region. We believe that through the various panels, meetings and discussions we will be able to further enhance ties and collaboration with all major stakeholders of the Mediterranean Oil and Gas Industry. In particular, we believe that our participation will allow us to tighten our relations with the Egyptian Oil and Gas sector and will help us explore future opportunities of collaboration between Hellenic Petroleum, EGPC, and all the major Egyptian energy entities.

IMAN HILL, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR GENERAL MANAGER UAE AND PRESIDENT EGYPT, DANA GAS Dana Gas has sizeable E&P assets in Egypt, namely onshore Nile Delta and offshore Mediterranean. Can you tell us more about your operations in-country and your future upcoming projects Egypt is an important core country for Dana Gas, which has been active in Egypt for over ten years. In November 2006, Dana Gas entered the market via an acquisition of Centurion Energy International Inc, which had assets in Egypt, Tunisia and offshore West Africa. Since the acquisition, Dana Gas has concentrated on developing our Nile Delta concessions and expanding into new onshore and offshore territories in Egypt. We also completed the construction of an LPG recovery plant with a total capacity of 130,000 tons per annum in the Gulf of Suez.

energy market self-sufficient within the next two years. It was not long ago that Egypt was an exporter and this field could allow the country to export once again. Market dynamics is going to change and Egypt will once again become a hub for production across the eastern Mediterranean.

You are joining us as at EGYPS 2018 as a panellist. How important to the industry is EGYPS as an annual meeting place and what are you most looking forward to at the Show?

In terms of assets and operations, we are exploring, developing and producing in two areas: onshore Nile Delta and offshore Mediterranean. All of our producing concessions are onshore currently and these include El Manzala, West Al Manzala and West El Qantara. In the offshore sector, we own the North El Arish (Block 6) concession. We also jointly-own the El Wastani Gas plant with our local partner El Wastani Petroleum Company (WASCO). It was commissioned in 2006 and is equipped to treat wet gas. Our current production output is circa 40,000 barrels of oil equivalent and our gross proved and probable reserves (2P) as of 31 December 2016 is estimated at 132 MMboe. Regarding our future projects, we have a threewell drilling programme starting now, which will rollover into the first quarter 2018. Two of the wells will be drilled on our wholly-owned North El Salhiya (Block 1) concession, namely Bahy-2 and ESAEN-1. The third onshore well is planned to be drilled in the West Manzala Development Lease. We are also waiting on final permits for Block 6 and anticipate first drill in 2019. Block 6 is our first offshore concession and could, similarly to our prospects in Kurdistan, be a real game changer for the Company if we successfully find commercial quantities of gas. Egypt has huge gas reserves that have the potential to change global gas market dynamics. In your opinion, how do you see the market developing over the next 2-3 years? At the end of last year, the massive Zohr field came on stream. This is an absolute gamechanger for Egypt and could make Egypt’s

market dynamics have enabled the emergence of new markets in MENA like Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan. The trading-led liquidity in LNG markets is likely to help in homogenising gas prices across key markets (North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East). This, together with the surge in LNG capacity construction that is due on-stream over the next four years is likely to maintain the existing glut in LNG and keep gas prices affordable. This is well timed as it will allow gas to compete and displace coal and oil in power markets enabling the reduction of GHG emissions and help achieve the Middle East’s COP21 pledges.

I am joining the Strategic, Women in Energy and Security and HSE conferences and I am very excited to be participating. This is the second edition of the Show and I look forward to sharing my views and opinions on what it means for me personally and to highlight how important EGYPS is for the industry.

The Suez Canal offers one of the easiest, and maybe the cheapest, trade routes for oil and gas. To add to this base, the partly stateowned Egyptian company Sumed is building a new large-scale LNG wharf on the Gulf of Suez. That should be finished by the end of 2018 and will supplement the capacity of the existing LNG facilities at Idku and Damietta on the Mediterranean coast. From a Middle East market point of view, the region has vast gas reserves. However, the development of domestic non-associated gas resources across the region requires the liberalisation of gas prices and the removal of energy subsidies. Inter-country gas flows in Middle East are constrained by political barriers; limited inter-country gas infrastructure and distorted gas pricing. So to meet growing gas demand the Middle East is experiencing the strongest growth in LNG demand in the world (on a relative basis). The emergence of new LNG markets has been enabled by floating regas terminals, increased LNG trading and shorter contract terms. These evolving LNG

Dana Gas is delighted to be participating at the Egypt Petroleum Show. It is a great opportunity to join global oil and gas operators and our partners in Egypt, sharing insights of the projects and work we have been developing in-country.

UNLOCKING E&P PROSPECTS THROUGH NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Finding new oil and gas resources and enhancing production from existing wells are the most important aspects of the upstream sector’s strategy to improve exploration and production (E&P) activities. However, as easy-to-reach hydrocarbons have already been incorporated to the E&P map,the industry faces several challenges to develop oil and gas projects in extreme locations and optimize production from mature fields. In order to reach ultra-deep waters, high-pressure and high-temperature formations, as well as small accumulations unconventional reservoirs, advances in technology play an indispensable role to meet production goals at lower costs and safer environments. With innovation as one of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ core pillars to achieve a modernized oil and gas sector, attracting investments and new technologies application represent a step forward in Egypt’s ambitious journey to become a regional energy hub. In line with the ministry’s efforts, Egypt has applied an array of new and advanced techniques in E&P processes in the past years – and 2017 was no exception. Throughout last year, the country witnessed outstanding results from innovative approaches in E&P projects, which encouraged oil and gas companies to enhance their investments and transfer the most efficient methods in the market to the development of the country’s fields. In December, Egypt put the untested Red Sea area

on the exploration mapwith a 2D seismic project consisting of an advanced new acquisition and new imaging techniques. Through the new approach, Egypt is expected to integrate all legacy seismic and non-seismic data with a wide insight on the complex subsalt structures. As the new imaging technology offers a better understanding of subsurface areas and helps in better decision making in structurally complex formations, the project illustrates how technology mitigates salt-imaging challenges and unlocks new business prospects. In a related development, Egypt witnessed the application of the latest version of AGR’s software (AGR P1™) in North El Arish concession area (Block-6), located in the Nile Delta. The most recent version of P1™ is cloud-based and is used to improve the accuracy of well time and cost modelling. The software can be applied to all drilling and well-related operations, including completions and interventions, in order to increase productivity in well planning and anticipate well costs. Although cloud computing is wide spread among other industries, the technology is a new player on the petroleum sector. Its incorporation to E&P projects represent a great improvement toward efficiency and practicality in data storage, as the new approach eases data access and management, avoids timeconsuming operational developments, and speed up responses from information demand.

In parallel with exploration, using advanced technology during production processes ultimately enables the reduction of production costs and the better understanding of reservoirs, which directly leads to increasing output rates. One of Egypt’s most recent innovative approaches in production activities is the application of a Multiple Discrete Temperature Sensor System(MDTS) in Zohr-2 (North-East culmination) and Zohr-5 (South-West culmination). MDTS is a wireless temperature monitoring system, which gathers continuous high-resolution temperature profiles from any section of the well. Providing these profiles helps the E&P team to better understand the reservoir and ,hence, better manage the wells. Compared to MDTS, traditional methods of gathering information from a reservoir after well testing is both more costly and risky, especially in deep water wells. MDTS saves 15% of the excising costs when testing a single well, while it can save up to 40% when used for a dual well test strategy. The outstanding results from the application of new technologies highlight the need of continuously attracting new investments into the sector’s technical innovation. As the increase in oil and gas demand remains a fact, rapid technology development blows fresher airs in the petroleum sector’s lungs, building a sustainable oil and gas sector and pushing Egypt forward as a strong market competitor.

FLARE CAPTURE TECHNOLOGY IN EGYPT REDUCE RETURN

EMISSIONS, PROFIT

RECOVER

PRODUCT,

Flaring has become a common practice in oil and gas exploration, production and processing operations. It is estimated that 5,200 Billion cubic feet or 147 billioncubic meters of gas is flared worldwide per day; that equates to 3.5% of the global gas production. As per world bank report, Egypt is flaring more than 2 billion cubic meter annually which contributes a huge loss of energy while Egypt is importing 50% of its gas consumption which from abroad. Gtuit& Berg chilling systems are partnered with Professional Engineering Services “ Proserve” in Egypt to recover this flare gas and convert it into revenue. 90% of the total gas flared occurs in upstream production areas, where gas may be stranded or isolated by lack of infrastructure. Gas flaring has been routinely used to deal with stranded gas issues such as physical location, lack of infrastructure and contaminants including hydrogen sulphide (H2S). Recognizing the inefficient nature of flaring practice, oil and gas producers globally are tasked with getting the best value for their resource, minimizing waste and emissions and seeking alternatives to wasteful flaring. With GTUIT’s modular and scalable flare capture system, gas flaring is all but eliminated, turning flares into usable energy, reducing emissions and creating revenue. GTUIT’s- Berg Chilling modular and scalable flare capture system enables oil producers to improve business sustainability, meet legislative requirements and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating unnecessary flaring of valuable products that can be efficiently captured and monetized. GTUIT’s proprietary flare reduction technology processes

associated gas at the well-site level, including innovative hydrogen sulfide removal, recovery of Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), dehumidification of gas and conditioning fuel gas. The GTUIT system is modular, mobile and scalable from 250 MCFD to over 5 MMCFD; based on a gas analysis and flow rates, the correct combination of gas sweetening, gas conditioning, NGL recovery, storage and power generation modules can be specified to meet customer’s requirements. GTUIT’s – Berg Chilling flare recovery system starts with proprietary flow control to even out the ebbs and surges of oil wells, allowing delivery of product at a consistent flow rate and pressure, translating to increased reliability for all downstream applications. The gas is then compressed before being sent through our mechanical refrigeration system, which lowers the temperature so that the heavier liquids (NGLs) condense out of the gas stream, recovering over 70% of the C3+ components. Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) or the Heavy Hydrocarbon Gas (C3+) are often considered an impurity for producers

INTERTEC Reshaping the economics of plant upgrade projects through Intertec’s novel outdoor equipment shelters Offering diverse field protection solutions over 50 years worldwide, Intertec is demonstrating a highly unusual equipment shelter at EGYPS (the Egypt Petroleum Show). Its outdoor PERI SHELTER for protecting field-instrumentation and automation makes all the system components that are required for normal operation accessible via the exterior of the building. This 'inside out' design approach can dramatically reduce shelter sizes, and greatly simplify construction and installation. The company’s concept is being demonstrated at the EGYPS exhibition on the booth of its system integration partner MISC Automation Systems, using a scale model of an example shelter. Shipping and designing over a million outdoor enclosures since 1965, Intertec is a provider of protection equipment operating in the most crucial conditions whether in Arctic regions or the hottest deserts. The company’s clientele includes the world’s recognized energy and processing organizations and engineering houses that pursue the company in protecting their equipments and instrumentation against climate risks.

looking to harvest lighter methane (C1) and ethane (C2) but NGLs are a highly profitable commodity. The NGLs can be stored at site in mobile tankers and transported to plants for further processing or combusted directly in turbines for power generation. The remaining conditioned fuel gas can be used for power generation, compressed into LNG or CNG on site or exported with new or existing gas infrastructure and pipelines. All GTUIT – Berg Chilling equipment can be remotely monitored and operated from anywhere in the world, giving the user absolute oversight and control. The remote monitoring system allows the user to continually monitor, display trends over time and control the equipment in order to optimize efficiency and guarantee safety. When gas capture is no longer required, or the well is connected to a gas pipeline, our mobile modules can be quickly moved to another site. Equipment takedown and re-deployment can be accomplished in less than 24 hours, minimizing downtime and maximizing NGL recovery and gas capture volumes.

2H21 "PERI SHELTERS can cut project costs by millions of dollars, and cut months off of project timescales" says Intertec's Director for the GCC region, Rohit Nath. "For turnaround projects in existing plants, the unmanned shelters avoid the need to install larger and expensive manned buildings such as satellite instrument houses or remote instrument enclosures. They fit easily in crowded spaces, close to the process in hazardous areas. And, with the benefit of Intertec's unique hybrid cooling technology, they are also ideal for SCADA applications in remote locations and on pipelines." Intertec's PERI SHELTER meets a growing problem faced on automation projects. Automation systems are becoming more complex, due in large part to ever more sophisticated safety technology. Adding such equipment into already crowded plant areas - often close to the process in hazardous areas has become a major challenge. And the problems that result can contribute significantly to project cost overruns, a situation that some industry insiders describe as a crisis. This new outdoor shelter concept has just been proved by Intertec on a current refinery upgrade project in the Middle East. Eight PERI SHELTERS

are being used to house new PLC-based control and safety systems for the refinery's burner systems. Panel-mounting enclosures on the exterior provide access to electrical connection and I/O termination points, and cooling systems. A touchscreen HMI panel that sits on an external wall allows operators on the ground to monitor the PLC or make adjustments to control programs locally via an inspection door. The shelters also feature a novel fault tolerant cooling system that is ideal for Middle East locations, based on a combination of passive and active cooling. Passive cooling is extremely reliable and operates independently of an electrical power supply ensuring that the shelters remain cool even during a power outage. An additional powered water cooler improves the efficiency of the cooling system. A third air cooler provides an independent back up. Intertec continues to work on avoiding many design problems and costs through making plant buildings blast proof and fire resistant because personnel might be inside, major reductions in size by eliminating desks, control panels, door opening spaces, aisles/ walkways/escape routes etc, and much simpler internal atmospheric control requirements.

CREATING AN ECO-FRIENDLY HYDROCARBON

FRAMEWORK: EGYPT’S FUTURE FOR GREEN PRODUCTION The petroleum industry has played an important role in the global economy for many years. In recent times, however, environmental concerns have arisen from the oil and gas operating business, due to the negative impact the industry forces upon the surrounding environment. Production’s harmful effects on the environment are usually generated from emissions to the air and discharges to the sea that occur during operation. This is why “Quality, Health, Safety and Environment” (QHSE) management has been prioritized by most of the prominent international oil and gas companies (IOCs), which have made a turn toward creating an eco-friendly oil and gas sector, through building a healthy and safe working place for their employees and further by protecting the environment in which they operate. Steps Forward Oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) activities are high-risk businesses where any error can negatively affect the environment. Therefore, reducing these risks linked to the industry became vital. Efforts to reduce gas flaring, for instance, are slowly gaining support around the world. Even though reducing flaring is still not a common feature in many petroleum fields, the harmful practice could end worldwide by 2030 if pursued efficiently, as outlined by the World Bank’s “Zero Routine Flaring” initiative.

Sustainable Developments Goals Although significant efforts have been made to create an eco-friendly energy sector and increase green hydrocarbon production in Egypt, it is also important to mention that, "Achieving sustainable development requires multisector and multidisciplinary approaches and many of the challenges the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) address are beyond an individual company’s capabilities or control. To realize the full potential to contribute to the achievement of the goals, oil and gas companies should engage in meaningful multi-stakeholder dialogue with relevant actors locally and nationally to identify joint SDG priorities and collectively define potential coordinated responses to the SDGs in the local context," according to a new joint report on mapping the oil and gas industry to the sustainable development goals, by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and IPIECA. With careful planning and implementation, the hydrocarbon industry has the opportunity to be greener and to contribute across all SDGs, either by enhancing its positive economic and social contributions or by avoiding or mitigating negative impacts on the environmental.

Scientists have demonstrated that flared gas can instead be utilized in three ways: LPG/condensate production, recycling, and power generation. These alternatives were studied technically, financially, and economically. The results indicate that the investors’ orientation and vision play a vital role in decision making, especially when a production-sharing agreement is applied, according the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)’s study. As for reduction efforts in Egypt, the EBRD signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope) under the auspices of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in 2015. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation among the parties in four main ways: by reducing the level of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, helping with the implementation of international best practices and standards, increasing the competitiveness of the sector, and contributing to energy security in Egypt. Benefits of Green Production Industry experts believe that implementing eco-friendly techniques and green technologies will protect the environment and benefit oil companies as well. For instance, curbing flare boosts the profit margins of oil companies that invest in the use of associated petroleum gas (APG) rather than merely having it flare. In this line, IOCs could secure a return on their investments to eliminate routine gas flaring if market conditions were amended and improved, Cristian Carraretto, EBRD’s Associate Director for Energy Efficiency and Climate Change, told Egypt Oil & Gas. In Egypt, promoting the elimination of gas flaring would be a prominent asset to the economy, as it would result in considerable savings for the country during the current scenario of budget restrictions. In addition, flare reduction could make a notable contribution to Egypt’s precarious power supply situation and produce tangible environmental benefits, especially as the government is putting greater emphasis upon climate change prevention. After inking the Paris Agreement COP21, the time is right for Egypt to consider how to incorporate flare reductions into its nationally determined contributions and to further explore opportunities for attracting international climate cofinancing for such efforts, according to EBRD’s study. Creating an eco-friendly hydrocarbon industry in Egypt is possible, especially when considering that the country has a sustainable development vision with “Egypt Vision 2030.” Yet, more collaboration between stakeholders is essential.
