2013 The Race Nine teams participated in the third edition of EFG Bank Sailing Arabia – The Tour, including an Omani all-female crew for the second year running. The 760nm offshore race kicked off on 10th of February 2013 from Amwaj Marina, Bahrain and the nine-strong fleet raced to The Pearl, Doha; the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club; the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club and the Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah before heading into Omani waters and the Six Senses Resort at Zighy Bay, Dibba; the Mussanah Marina and finally The Wave, Muscat on 25th of February. Over the course of two weeks of racing, teams enjoyed perfect sailing conditions and a challenging mix of offshore, coastal and in-port racing.

“I like the mixture of inshore and offshore - it is good for us. This time of year we don't have that much sailing we can do [in Europe] so this is good practice for us. It is a perfect two weeks.” Bertrand Pace Skipper, Team AISM

The Boat The Farr 30 One Design Yacht First appearing on the offshore racing circuit in the late 90s, the Farr30 is a 30-foot keelboat that combines speed and exciting performance with simplicity and affordability. Eliminating much of the complicated tuning systems of other classes, the Farr30 is designed for stability, with a bulb keel that allows for small crews and ease of handling. By handicap rules from existing classes, the Farr30 started from a blank sheet, with the designers free to incorporate any feature that they felt would make the boat fun to sail. This allows for a fractional rig but also a masthead flown spinnaker and the option of an asymmetrical spinnaker for broad reaching. The rig allows for exceptional light weather handling, ideal for the conditions in the Gulf and a crew of seven under racing conditions. The boat is exceptionally light for a standard 30-foot cruiser/racer, weighing only 2063kg, and allowing for good performance on all points of sail. The sails are made of carbon fibre cloth, which allow for optimal aerofoil rigidity and shaping.
