Member Survey Results

Hello IWFS members,

What’s New

Recently, the Omaha Metro Board sent out a short member survey to better understand where you find value in your membership and how the Board can continue to enhance our events to best serve our members.

We appreciate those members that took the time to fill out the survey and share their thoughts. We had 30 members out of 58 respond to the survey. The survey focused on the factors you use to decide which events to attend and if you would rather see a reduction in the number of events that are held in a calendar year.

For the factors used in deciding to attend, the “Food/Menu” was the most important factor, followed closely by “Wine Selection.” Trailing those factors, the third most important was “Venue/Location,” followed by “Educational Value.” The least important factor, by far, was “Cost of the Event.” When asked if there were other factors that you considered when deciding to attend, 56% of you said that your availability/calendar was very important. This information is very much appreciated as it helps the members who volunteer to produce an event understand where the interest and passion lies within our group.

The other survey question asked if members would be For or Against reducing the numbers of events held in a year. Out of the 30 members surveyed, 23 were for reducing events with 7 against. This doesn’t necessarily mean that we will reduce the events, however, we do rely on members to volunteer to put on these events. If at some point we do not have enough volunteers, then we will need to reduce our events per year. This survey question helps us understand how you feel about this possible change.

Thank you again to those who participated in the survey. The Board strives to create fun, educational, and exceptional food and wine events that appeal to our diverse group of enophiles. If at any time you have a concern, idea, or want to team up with a Board member to host an event, please feel free to reach out to any the Board members, listed below.

Event Report: Mother’s

Day

Brunch at Pasta Amore

Your usual scribe for these Event Reports was in the air, traveling back from the IWFS Napa Valley Festival, so I am relying on the invitation and others to relay the story. By all reports, the food was delicious at Pasta Amore. Chef Owner Jared Clark was there to guarantee quality and flavor. Diners started off with a choice of Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas, Champagne and/or Branch quaffing wines. A seafood sampling of Poached Shrimp, Lox and Cerviche were the highlights, with a cheese and salami board as well.

The First Plate was Angel Food French Toast (that sounds interesting) with lemon curd, raspberry and/or anglaise for the topping. A Trimbach Reserve Riesling 2022 and a Bodegas Jorge Ordonez Malage Botani Old Vines Moscatel 2023 were poured. If I had to guess, I would say the soft, sweet Moscatel would be the better choice than a dry, steely Riesling.

The Second Plate was Croque Madame, a high-class French ham sandwich that is essentially a Croque Monsieur (a hot ham and Gruyere cheese sandwich with béchamel sauce) with egg. This is making me hungry. It was Paired with a red Domaine de la Fond Moiroux Moulin-a-Vent gros Voges Burgundy 2022 and a Domaine Bunan Bandol Mas de la Rouviere Rosé 2023. Despite having the words gros Voges Burgundy on the invite, the Moiroux is a Beaujolais, with Moulin-a-Vent being the best village wine of the appellation. Bandol is a French wine AOC from Provence.

Third Plate was WinterFrost Wagyu Steak & Eggs, with Beef Fat Hash and Sunny Side eggs. I’m starting to feel really full just reading about all this bounty! WinterFrost is American Wagyu with 100% Tajima Wagyu bloodline beef raised in Nebraska. Two of the oldest wines were served, a Goudeau Saint-Emilion 2016 and a Hess Collection Mt. Veeder Block 19 2012. They both sound great to me.

Finally, the Fourth Plate brought Ricotta Blood Orange Pound Cake with Prosecco and Strawberries. If there was any room left, Veuve Clicquot Brut Rosé Non-Vintage was served. This sounds to me like a brunch with great food and a lot of wine for the very modest price of $150.00. Thanks to Rhonda and Mike Wilke for organizing this event, Chef Jared for great food, and the wait staff for great service.
