REHACARE 2013: All-round success REHACARE 2013 – it was a platform for much important information and many novelties. It brought 43,500 visitors to the Düsseldorf exhibition halls in 2013. People with disabilities, relatives and experts gathered information on products for a self-determined life and the latest findings from science and research. Specialists came from countries such as Russia or Bahrain to look for useful aids in order to introduce these to their own markets. And ultimately they also came because REHACARE is a highlight every year with a very special family atmosphere.

The expectations of the numerous visitors and the 750 exhibitors from 36 countries were fully met.

Trade and private visitors took due note of the innovations, ranging from wheelchairs to complex assistance systems, be it bionic prostheses, barrier-free comfort, electronic aids, cars adapted to the needs of disabled people, or information stands for career possibilities with certain types of handicaps. Numerous self-help groups were there to give advice and support. The REHACARE Congress, with its focal points of “living,” “stroke” and “sport,” offered more in-depth information and was visited by more than 500 participants.

Visitor opinions on REHACARE 2013 Marie Luise and Bertold B. are from Düsseldorf. The foldable bench behind Marie Luise’s wheelchair is self-constructed and does not weigh down the wheelchair at all. Marie Luise would like to gather information in self-help groups and meet acquaintances. Bertold is specifically looking for a ramp that he can transport on his wife’s wheelchair. “We would just like to be more mobile.”

Melanie and Sebastian Upmeyer are in the process of building a house. The small family is especially interested in the topic of barrier-free living. “Our house has to be barrier-free. Today, we have already found some information on stair lifts and are now looking for novelties in the area of interior design.

Perhaps there will also be useful aids such as special door knobs or handles.”

Markus Rehm is an orthopedic master mechanic at rahm Zentrum für Gesundheit GmbH (Hall 04/G20) and a Paralympic gold medal winner. He has been at REHACARE a few times. “This trade fair is a must-go event for us. You just have to be there.

Here we meet our customers and present the entire range of our products.” He really likes the fair this year. Because of his interest in sport, he also very much wants to meet some colleagues in the sports hall.

This year, Silke Schmidt from “sinnvoll geschenkt” and Nicole Babitsch from “Nicky Line Design” have a joint stand (Hall 04/C46). Nicole Babitsch: “We like the direct customer contact at REHACARE and the open-minded clientele. It is all so diversified here. I would especially like to address the sanitary trade, so that my therapeutic table supports can be recommended for even more children so they can be helped.”

Davina Ellis was curious: “I have never been to REHACARE, and I just wanted to take a look at what is there.“ She is especially interested in sport and travel.

“I expect a mix of information and fun from the trade fair. I just tried out the Mobility Cube. It is a sort of Segway for people with a handicap. That was super!”

Samuel Baubkus is an occupational therapist at Gripability (Hall 05/J31). “REHACARE is super for meeting many people at the same time. We find it exciting to get to know our customers, who are making use of the many different grip aids. In addition, we are looking for dealer contacts and would like to find international partners.” This year, he presented the b.hand, a mechanical grip aid completely without cables.

Jakob Reinholdt from Denmark is an occupational therapist. He is already here for the fifth time with his company HMN A/S (Hall04/D46): “REHACARE is the largest trade fair for us, and we like it as much as always. Here we meet our distribution partners and producers.”

Congress, theme parks and much more

The New York wheelchair or the crocodile wheelchair, the “Fortuna vehicle” or the “Frog wheelchair” – the combinations in the area of self-designed wheelchairs were endless. Even the participants of the REHACARE competition ± “Pimp my Rolli” (Pimp my Wheelchair), aged from 12 to 72 years, represented all generations. After a dance interlude by three wheelchair dancing couples who delighted the audience with Latin-American rhythms, the winners were honored with lots of applause and received attractive prizes. These included, for example, a week of barrier-free relaxation in the Lüneburger Heide (Lüneburg Heath).

According to Dr. Brigitte Mohn, Chairwoman of the Deutsche Schlaganfall-Hilfe (German Stroke Foundation), who also spoke at the congress, REHACARE is the most important platform for specialists and stroke survivors.

Specialists and doctors familiarized themselves with the latest achievements of medical science and equipment. The forum united a number of exhibitions and conferences on health care, healthy lifestyle and pharmaceutical sector.

The events of the Russian Health Care Week aroused a great interest of skilled specialists and were highly appreciated at the state level. On the total exhibition area of 55,295 sq m 1,141 companies from all the subjects of the Russian Federations and 42 countries presented their new advanced technologies almost in all the fields of the modern medicine.

National pavilions of such countries as Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Norway, the People’s Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Taiwan and Turkey were presented at the exhibitions.

Foreign companies such as Sony, Philips, Toshiba, Olympus, Kodak, Leica, Fresenius, Stormoff, MSWestfalia, Physiomed, Shimadzu, Storz, Fujifilm, Hitachi, S?msung, General Electric, Heinemann Medizintechnik, Mindray, Nikon, etc. displayed their innovations and latest technologies.

Russian products were presented by the companies from all the regions of the Russian Federation, among which were: Amico, Elektron, Kostromskaya Medtechnika, Kasimov Instrument Making Enterprise, Zagorsky Optical-Mechanical Plant, Krasnogorsky Zavod named after Zverev, Urals Optical & Mechanical Plant, Vinar, Mikromontazh, ST Nizhnegorodets, Kront-M, Lomo, Tatchempharmpreparaty and others.

The number of unique visitors amounted to 32,140 people. The total visitor attendance made up 52,910.

New project Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitions was implemented at the International scientific and practical forum - the Russian Health Care Week – according to the recommendations of UFI - the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. Its task is to reduce the number of counterfeit products showcased at trade shows and illegal copying of new exhibited developments.

The unique format providing single information and exhibition space, offered by the organizers of the forum, provided dramatically new opportunities for the

promotion of innovative products for practical medical application.

The key event of the Russian Health Care Week was the 3rd International Forum on Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Healthy Lifestyle Promotion ‘For Healthy Life’ devoted to the issues concerning improvement of the citizens living standards, development of preventive trend of health care. The forum was held within the framework of the Russian Health Care Week’2013 for the first time.

The plenary discussion and seminars related to the key subjects of the modern medicine development were held at the forum. The leading scientific centers and institutes of the Russian Ministry of Health and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences demonstrated their developments.

The meeting of specialized Commission of the Russian Ministry of Health on Non-Communicable Disease Prevention was held in the frames of the Week for the first time.

MEDITEX, Science and Technology Center, with the support from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade held a series of the seminars on Development of the Medical Industry in the Russian Federation within the Russian Health Care Week.

The major events of the Week were the 7th All-Russia Forum on Circulation of Medical Products in Russia.

Problem Areas of 2014, the 15th Annual Scientific Forum on Stomatology’2013, the 8th International Science Conference ‘SportMed’2013’, the 2nd Russian Medical Investment Forum, the Interdisciplinary Scientific and Practical Conference on the Issues of Men’s X-ray Radiology and Urology, the International Business Medical and Pharmaceutical Forum.

The programme of accompanying events of the Forum included the 4th Annual All-Russia Conference on Non-Governmental Health Care: Current State and Development Trends, the Workshop on Promotion of Medical Goods, Equipment and Services via Internet.

The 34th Moscow International Dental Forum and Exhibition Dental-Expo 2013 was an event anticipated by the whole dental community. Preparation for the exhibition and conference took more than one year and the forum met all the expectations of exhibitors and visitors. Three exhibition halls could hardly accommodate all the people who wanted to participate. The exhibition was visited by professionals from all over the world representing the leading manufacturers of dental equipment and materials as well as by professionals from the dental industry of Russia and ex-CIS countries. The exhibition, which provided opportunities for business negotiations and professional talks, was accompanied by a scientific program that included more than 400 events at the stands and in the conference halls.

Improved facilities in the entrance zone increased throughput at the turnstiles and made it possible to avoid queues building up near the entrance to the halls. Unfortunately there were some queues at the registration desks because some people left their tickets at home. A solution to this problem has been already found and will be implemented at the next Dental-Expo.

The organizing committee noted a sharp increase of the number of online registrations. From July to September

the exhibition website was visited by over 35,000 people.

For website visitors a new electronic catalogue of exhibitors was presented linked to the interactive floor plan.

Special attention was given to the program of events presented to dentists during the Forum. The scientific program was the biggest and most comprehensive ever held in Russia.

The Forum started in the early morning of 16 September with a lecture entitled “Dentistry: Introduction to the Profession,” presented by Dr. Oleg Yanushevich, Head Dentist under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Head of Moscow State Dental University, Honored Dentist of Moscow State Dental University, and Honored Dentist of Russia. More than 500 students and

professors of the leading dental universities came to the exhibition grounds for this lecture. For the students it was a great chance to enter the world of dentistry at the beginning of the year: to attend a lecture and the largest exhibition in their field. After that the forum opened the 30th Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “Dentistry of the 21st Century.” The Minister of Healthcare of Russia and various representatives of the leading institutions and the Dentistry Association gave welcoming speeches at the conference.

Other important events were pre- and post- exhibition conferences and workshops, organized at a very high level.

For instance, the “World Dental Implant Symposium 2013 in Moscow,” organized under the patronage of Professor Bernhard Tuati (France) brought together six stars of the international level and more than 100 implantologists.

The post-symposium presented by Doctor Dario Adolfi (Brazil) was also organized as part of “Dental-Expo 2013” and attracted more than 300 participants.

The project “Teeth-to-teeth” was presented for the third time at the exhibition. It was possible to sell or to buy an operating dentistry business or to find personnel. Everything was completely free. The trend is obvious: despite the declining economic situation the demand for the dentistry business is increasing. At the same time there are fewer people who want to sell their businesses. The demand for qualified personnel in private dentistry is increasing.

Once again “Dental Expo” showed a substantial increase in all directions and set new records in the number of participants and size of the exhibition. The next upcoming events are: “Dental Review 2014” (10–12 February) and Dental Salon 2014 (21–24 April).
