An efficient transport hub that creates seamless end-to-end journeys for thousand commuters
Our design proposal for Shenzen International Transport Interchange takes inspiration from the yin and yang concept, expressed through a large sweeping, habitable roof connecting ‘earth and sky’. Below the roof, the transport hub is designed to improve the journeys of thousands of commuters daily. It provides effortless transfers between high-speed rail, underground, bus, coach, taxi facilities, and the airport terminal, making it one of the most integrated transport interchanges in the world.
The multidisciplinary, international team including BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), Ramboll and Haptic developed clear design principles to create a harmonious and unique development that delivers operational, experiential, and environmental excellence.
The integrated masterplan was developed based on the concept of a 15-minute city and smart city technologies supporting operational facilities below ground to enable a vehicle-free, biodiverse public realm above.
As design partners, the OLO team were instrumental in bringing on board their extensive experience in multimodal transport interchange design and their aptitude for strategic masterplanning and commercialization that led to the inclusion of transport-oriented development (TOD) in the scheme.

DESIGN MANAGEMENT
A stadium at the forefront of innovation, delivering the ultimate spectator experience and community asset.
The Nexus Stadium builds upon the success of a global design competition winning scheme to develop the concessions for a FIFA-compliant state-of-the-art stadium in the Middle East, with a capacity of 45,000 seats.
In collaboration with Gensler, Buro Happold and Storyland Studios, we designed a unique stadium designed to provide an exceptional spectator experience during various sporting events and entertainment functions. An upscale hotel is integrated into the complex, while retail spaces, including shops and restaurants, create a dynamic destination for local residents and guests.
The bowl design ensures clear, unobstructed views from every seat for a vibrant and engaging experience, and innovative features include transformable elements and retractable pitches to maximise the venue’s flexibility.
Building on this project, OLO developed the Nexus Stadium concept: an economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable venue that serves the community through various activations.
The stadium’s perimeter is envisioned as a vibrant public space featuring shops, cafes, and green areas that connect to the surroundings. The design includes adaptable spaces that enhance fan engagement on game days and allow for diverse uses like markets, fitness classes, and community events to keep the stadium active and relevant to the community all year round.
These features set new standards for adaptability and resilience while elevating the fan experience, making the stadium an urban hub, promoting community engagement, economic growth, and city transformation.
Creating a sustainable development with green spaces, and enhanced connectivity in the heart of London.
OLO unlocked the potential of an underutilised brownfield site adjacent to an active Network Rail station in North London, overcoming significant physical and engineering challenges posed by the rail infrastructure below. Spanning 35,000 sq.m. GIA, the project will deliver much-needed community infrastructure while generating positive ecological outcomes, creating value for all stakeholders.
The site faces considerable constraints due to the existing rail infrastructure, is situated in a low-rise area, and is classified as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC). Our proposal focuses on improving connectivity through the site, adding new public green spaces, enhancing biodiversity across the site, and creating additional amenities for the community.
Using innovative structural solutions we maximise development capacity while proposing a single-story pedestrian and cycle route improves connectivity. By establishing ecological corridors and embracing sustainable strategies, we ensure a sustainable development.
The outcome is a mixed-use scheme combining housing with ground-level commercial spaces and community gardens, fostering an engaging environment that supports daily life and local businesses.
Innovating for a new age of air travel and exemplary commercial experience.
OLO bring their considerable experience in transport architecture and major projects to bolster an incredibly strong team of consultants including Foster + Partners, Jacobs, and Portland, for the design of the new King Salman International Airport (KSIA) in Riyadh. Our key role includes developing the concept for the commercial experience of Terminal 6 (T6), a facility designed to handle 40 million passengers annually.
Terminal 6 will be a new gateway to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, combining cultural significance with world-class commercial facilities. Our vision for Terminal 6 aims to transform the airport experience by offering a rich, experiential environment focused on leisure and culture, ultimately shaping the future of air travel.
Our design approach is anchored in human empathy, and aims to enable highly customisable journeys catering to all passengers. This customer-first approach is deeply embedded in the local culture of hospitality and digitally enhanced to offer an engaging experience for both international and regional travellers.
By leveraging our transport and user-centred design expertise, we are able to craft a guest experience that maximises commercial potential while redefining the traditional airport journey.
OLO designed an innovative and highly efficient buildto-rent scheme for a private developer in a prime London location that will deliver at least 300 homes. This sustainable development caters to various tenancy types, creates new public green spaces, adds amenities for the community, and provides quality homes.
The project’s main challenge was to deliver a commercially appealing scheme on a site where a minimum of 50% affordable housing was required. We worked closely with the client to maximise the site’s capacity and viability and streamlined decision-making using advanced modelling and cutting-edge computational technology.
The design prioritises both functionality and well-being, with highly efficient, well-designed flat layouts that maximise private access to outdoor spaces, 74% of which are dual-aspect. All buildings feature generous roof terraces adorned with greenery to enhance biodiversity.
The development delivers community amenities for all ages, such as private roof terraces, community gardens, a nursery, coworking spaces, a gym, and wellness facilities, as well as valuable commercial spaces to enhance revenue generation.

ADVISORY ARCHITECTURE
A landmark, vibrant, and highly sustainable development serving as a powerful catalyst for regeneration.
Initially instructed to test the feasibility of a single site for 600 students, OLO identified the opportunity for wider development to offset the cost of the project and create value for a broader group of stakeholders. Challenging the client’s initial brief, we proposed a landmark, vibrant, and sustainable development that not only delivers greater value but will also act as a catalyst for broader regeneration in the area.
The site is centrally located and well-connected but is surrounded by a number of light industrial zones and underutilised land. Currently, it houses outdated student accommodation that does not comply with current housing standards.
Rooted in placemaking principles, this design aims to drive broader regeneration in the area. The proposal improves pedestrian connectivity and establishes strategic links to integrate the new development with its surroundings.
The result is a vibrant cultural quarter, that integrates student housing with private residences, commercial spaces, and a high-quality public realm. Our vision prioritises an active public realm that fosters a strong sense of place and community engagement.
OLO carried out the Yare Valley Masterplan as a feasibility study for a private client with the key objective of helping a non-professional client understand the value and development opportunity of their 4-hectare site in Norfolk.
Set within the curtilage of a country village, the modern development includes a mix of housing and open space to encourage biodiversity and enable residents to enjoy a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.
The design proposal includes re-purposing a listed river mill to generate energy for the development, a concept anchored to the site’s history and the local context.
The scope of our work covered a complete site evaluation and market research to determine the best use and design feasibility of a housing development. To further support our client, we drew a robust roadmap towards realisation, including construction phasing scenarios and options for the project’s economics.
The following collection of projects were carried out by members of the team prior to the formation of OLO.
The selected projects are just a few that were led by our team members, spanning a wide range of sectors and scales, for public and private clients across various geographies.
