Jericho

Artist Exhibiton Residence

Creating an environment in a confined space, separated by a popular canal, aimed to use the separation to my advantage, creating a physical barrier between the public and private spaces of the house. The exhibition allows for large quantities of light to illuminate the space and the kitchen/dining area leads out straight onto the canal. The focal area of my residence is the bridge, which is a sculpture between the buildings, portraying the artist’s modern style, whilst allowing views through the glazed exterior.

Outdoor Theatre Stage, Sydney Gardens, Bath

For this project, the brief was to creatre an outdoor theatre stage for shows and plays to be performed at outside of the Holburne Museum. Taking inspiration from the collonade that extended off the main building of the Museum and the Maple leaf treas that cocooned the site, emalgamated these contrastin forms with each other.

developed my school by focusing on the hall of the building. responded to the context of the site by mimicing the Victorian terrace houses that opposed my building on the south side. I to focus on this as I wanted to make the individual spaces like houses. Not only would this cement the building into the originating ladscape, but it would give a sense of the school being second home for the children. I used angles roof shapes based the georgian and Victorian roof angles and added some lights roof to help with natural daylighting in the building. Not only this help environmentally, but it visually created a repeatinbg chimney motif, similar to the Victorian houses. I developed this by chabging the roof light to face north, giving it daylight

Solarium

A Primary School for the residents of Combe Down, Bath

My concept idea arose from my site analysis, using the core ideas of a terrace like facade, the stepwise geometry and the core axis pinning the building elements together. These ideas helped to drive my design forward and remained a prominent feature throught the design process.

My material choice was also derived from the site, with reclaimed bath stone and wooden slatting in comination to mimic the park wall and surrounding trees. The landscaping used for this building is simple, yet reinforces the priciples behind the school; the pathing between blocks separates the classes into their respective yeargroups, and further paving on the east allows for seating and leads to entrance-ways in the building. This idea helps reinforce the block terrace motif.

Throughout the site, there is a plehtora of deciduous and coniferous trees. Aroumd site two, there is only deciduous trees present, meaning that in the winter, they lose their leaves. Around site one, there is a combination of both in the tree line. The coniferous trees mean that they are evergreen providing a natural screen between the site and the road throughout the course of the year. Not only is it a visual screen, but also a auditory screen.

Terraced Learning

A Stepped Journey Through Education

Through this journey of creating spaces suited for a reception to year 2 Primary School, ensured that the core concepts of my design remained and were evident in the design. This was the terraced like motif that cocoons the building. This idea was accumilated from the opposing Victorian terrace that faced the site. With this motif, it created a conversation with the residents, having the traditional houses on the south side of the road with the modern idea of the houses on the north side.
