About Me
Hello! My name is Olivia Small, and I am currently a rising junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Interior Architecture and a certificate in Graphic Design. Growing up, I always had a passion for art and desired to incorporate that passion into a career that evokes creativity and design.
Revit Introduction: The Modern House
Visual Communication II
The goal of this project was to research mid-century modern design elements in order to create a singlestory home in the style using Revit. Furthermore, the renderings were advanced through use of the software Enscape.
Using Adobe InDesign, I created graphically pleasing sheets to showcase the project's inspiration images. The sheets' designs assisted in evoking the feeling of mid-century modern by incorporating shapes and motifs resemblant of the style's graphic design.
2Museum Model
Design Fundamentals II
The project utilized inspiration from architect, Daniel Libeskind to develop and create a three-dimensional model of a museum structure.
Revit Advanced: The Warehouse
Visual Communication II
The project focused on advancing my Revit skills through the design, renovation, and conversion of a commercial warehouse building. Furthermore, I was tasked with choosing the kind of merchandise to sell within the warehouse's retail space. I chose to sell a variety of cameras and thus called my warehouse "Cameras Galore." I also chose to include a theater space and a darkroom. Using Revit's Family builder tools, I designed and built a custom cash wrap, custom merchandise displays, and all the available merchandise.
Additionally, I used my knowledge of graphic design and Adobe Illustrator to create three logo options. I used Adobe InDesign to create an exciting cover page and fun sheet layouts to visually prepare users as to what to expect from my warehouse.
4 Art Deco Period Room Graphic
History of Architecture & Interiors II: 19th and 20th Centuries
“Pierre Legrain: tabouret, exhibited at the 1923 Salon of the Société des Artistes Décorateurs, curule-shaped, in galuchat and black lacquer, 1923” (Duncan 31).
“Edgar Brandt. Oasis, folding screen. 1924. Iron and copper. Private collection, Paris” (Charles et al. 129).
“Clarité. Nude figure of white metal on marble base holding glass ball light globe. From Catalogue, by Max le Verrier, 1925, Vincent Primavera” (McClinton 98).
The purpose of this project was to design a period room in any one of the unique styles learned throughout the course's teachings. Furthermore, the project allowed the use of an endless array of creative formats. I chose to use the format of Adobe Illustrator in order to create a graphic in the Art Deco style inspired by advertisements and posters from that period. Additionally, the decorative objects referenced in the graphic are authentic Art Deco forms.
Marcel Coard. Sofa (for Jacques Doucet residence, Paris, France). 1925. Rosewood, ivory, leather. Decorative Arts
After 1890 collection, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (Virginia Museum of Fine Arts).
“Albert Cheuret: mantel clock, silvered bronze and onyx, probably 1920s” (Duncan et al. 141).
“Franklin and Franklin. Warp-printed cretonne. Registered, February 19, 1934. Lent by Victoria and Albert Museum” (Hillier 193)
Interior Design I Victorian House Renovation
This project revolved around the renovation of the first floor of a historical Queen Anne Victorian House to meet accessible standards. Additionally, it involved the development of rental units to fulfill the client's desire to host and get to know local tourists.
The design concept considered how The Boho Abode could drive visitors in with its whimsical spirit while awakening their explorative nature to adventure outwards.
The project further involved the inclusion of furniture and fixture selections for each room along with the creation of accurate 3D renderings using Google SketchUp.
6Chair Design
Design Fundamentals II
This project involved fashioning a unique chair design that took inspiration from a 1970s textile in the Helen Louis Allen Textile Collection at my university's School of Human Ecology.
Composition in Black and White
Design Fundamentals I
This project explored the relationships between line, value, and shape by creating a complex composition and conveying a sense of three-dimensional depth on a two-dimensional plane. It hones in on details of a chip clip to address a clear focal point, balance, and unity.

Intergenerational Living Community
Interior Design II
Interior Design II studio's semester-long project revolved around the extension and rebranding of an intergenerational living community located near Madison, WI.
I chose to rebrand the facility to be known as "Growing Together." The design concept focused on implementing spaces that allow residents of varying ages to connect with each other and themselves to support social, physical, and mental growth.
Key ideas and concerns that are encouraged through the design include social connection, comfort, flexibility, biophilia, and the recurring focus of harboring the feeling of "home."
Important portions of the project that help to capture its purpose include the selections for the 2bedroom apartment units, concept sketches of the critical intergenerational contact zones, and Revit renderings of the lounge and alcove.
Implementing intergenerational contact zones including a lounge, fitness center, and alcove will act as key contributors towards the goal of growth. The communal kitchen and dining area will also be a space of critical importance due to the nature that cooking has of implicitly bringing people of different backgrounds together.
Three-Dimensional Cont t Design Fundamentals II
The project was used to represent the three-dimensional contrasts of geometric to organic and tension to relaxation through the development of tiles, masks, and a pavilion.

Still Life Drawings
Visual Thinking - Form and Space
These still life drawings focused on characterizing the relationship between forms and adding in details and variations of value.
Graphic Communication: Book Cover 11
Design Fundamentals I
The project focused on using the visual elements and compositional principles of design in order to create a new cover for an already existing book relating to the designer's field of interest.
