Olivet campus has been named a Level I Arboretum – that just means going to class is like a walk in the park.

The

Every campus has a story. But the best stories aren’t told in brochures or on websites — they’re lived out in the moments between classes, whispered in late-night study sessions and celebrated over lattes in the Quad.

This is Olivet Nazarene University from the angle of those who know it best: our students.

These are glimpses of student life, capturing the people who call this place home. From the first nervous steps into the residence hall to the triumphant walk across the graduation stage, these images reveal what words sometimes can’t — the texture of daily life, the warmth of unexpected friendships and the thousand small discoveries that transform a campus into a community.

Turn the page. See what we see. Feel what we feel.

Because sometimes the most important question isn’t just “Where will I go to college?” but “Where will I become who I’m meant to be?”

This is our Olivet. Our moments. Our view.

The rock wall in the Perry Student Life & Recreation Center is among the largest indoor climbing walls in Illinois. Hashtag goals.

Clock

stands tall on mid-campus. You’ll hear its carillon marking the quarter, half and hour ... it’s great if you’re running late for class.

Milby
Tower

They say you’ll meet your best friends at college.

Here’s what they don’t tell you: it happens when you least expect it. Maybe during a midnight pizza run. Or cheering yourself hoarse at a Tigers game. Or that moment when your intramural team absolutely should not have won — but somehow did.

This place? It’s built for connection. Our campus doesn’t just look like a park — it feels like one, where every path leads somewhere new and every bench has a story. Where else can you join 90+ clubs (yes, really), play on one of 23 varsity athletic teams, or discover you’re actually pretty good at ultimate frisbee? More than half our students play intramurals because, honestly, why not?

You’ll meet a whole new crew at Ollies Follies, hosted each fall after the start of classes.

You find your rhythm. Your voice. Your place.

From theatre stages to volunteer sites, from music halls to campus jobs — this is where you don’t just find your people. And maybe, just maybe, those friends for life everyone always talks about.

It’s a series of moments you can’t quite describe.

You might stop by Chalfant Hall to hear a national icon speak, then cheer on your roomie at the spring musical.

Your professors collaborate with you, fostering lifelong mentorships. And our labs aren’t just for grad students – you’ll be in the middle of it all

Look closely and you’ll find an Olivet alumnus making their mark.

You’ll get to present your ideas – not just in class. Maybe at the Createur Competition, which attracts students from all across the U.S.

NASA scientist or nature conservator. CEO or artist. Pastor or engineer.

How? Start with 200+ areas of study across bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. Add professors who actually know your name and care about your future. Mix in real-world experience that gets started in the freshman year, not after graduation.

The recognition? That’s just proof of what we already know. Best Value, Social

Mobility recognition and Colleges of Distinction accolades. But here’s what rankings can’t capture: the moment your professor connects you with their former student who’s now hiring. The internship that becomes your career. The confidence that comes from being prepared — really prepared — for whatever’s next.

Your dream career is possible here.

From Accounting to Zoology, your liberal arts education will stretch your mind’s boundaries.

The Marching Tigers will get you every time – from the first home game to spontaneous campus parades.

Meeting in Centennial Chapel twice each week isn’t just a way to come together as a campus, it’s an opportunity to re-focus on God’s grand design for living.

Whether you end up living in the legendary Chapman Hall or the Oaks Apartments, community life is real life.

Faith isn’t just a Sunday thing here.

It’s woven into afternoon conversations with professors who pray for you by name. It’s the entire campus coming together twice a week for chapel — because we want to, we get to. It’s discovering that the deepest questions have room to breathe here.

This is where wisdom meets wonder. Where worship spills out of services and into everyday moments. Where mentors don’t just teach you what to think, but how to think — and why it matters.

Sometimes growing means going.

Want to see faith in action? There’s Upper Room in the Warming House. Or Women in the Word. Or, join students on one of the dozens of outreach trips with locations worldwide. Because sometimes the best classroom is a village in Guatemala, a school in Kenya, or a neighborhood right here outside Chicago.

You could take advantage of one of the dozens of opportunities to stretch your heart and mind in one of our partner

programs around the globe. Spend the summer at Oxford — yes, that Oxford. Or contemplate the world of movie making and film in Hollywood. Or hone your beekeeping skills through the University’s summer research programs.

Here, your spiritual path isn’t separate from your academic one. They’re partners in the same beautiful, challenging, transformative journey.

Our ONU Tigers have a motto - “Winning Championships and Developing Champions.” Sure, it’s a humble brag.

Learning happens everywhere... not just at computers and desks. After all, lab coats were meant to get dirty.

Life Together

The best friendships aren’t planned. They’re built over late night snacks in the Oaks. They’re forged during 7 a.m. gym sessions when you’d rather be sleeping. They happen when your roommate’s alarm goes off for the third time and somehow you’re both laughing instead of mad.

This is where sharing space becomes sharing life. Where “who has more meal credits?” becomes the running joke you’ll text about ten years later. Where ordinary moments — every chapel, every workout, every late-night conversation — add up to something extraordinary.

Some call it res life. We call it home.

Spirited Collaboration

Greatness rarely happens alone. It happens when the marching band perfects that impossible formation. When engineering students pull an all-nighter and suddenly — breakthrough. When your wildest idea meets someone else’s “what if?” and magic happens.

Here, collaboration isn’t a buzzword — it’s how we roll.

Small Groups and Big Dreams

Olivet is the perfect size. Small enough that your professors have your back. Big enough that your dreams have room to grow. This is what happens when intimate classes meet infinite possibilities — when you get all the perks of a premier Christian university without getting lost in the crowd.

Your ideas don’t get buried here — they get built.

Social Networking

More than 300 events — that’s something happening every day. Coffee house concerts. Upper Room worship. Food truck Fridays. Rock wall climbing competition. Ultimate frisbee. Improv team. Neighborhood cleanups. Movie nights on the lawn at The Grove. And enough time to take a break from it all.

Connections don’t just happen in classrooms — they happen everywhere.

Tiger Traditions

Ask any student about “Warm Cookie Wednesdays” and watch them smile. Mention “Rock ‘N Glow” and they’ll tell you about dancing until midnight awash in neon. Say “Ollies Follies” and brace yourself for stories about “the year we almost won!”

These aren’t just events — they’re our language. “Meet you at the Quad.” “Heading to Luddy.” “Did you see Toby on Insta?” Every tradition started as someone’s crazy idea. Now they’re the moments we’ll tell our kids about. From Homecoming to the LaMorris’ “c’mon somebody!” From Mr. ONU to late nights at the Rec — this is how memories become legends. This is how strangers become family.

Welcome to the inside jokes you haven’t made yet.

MISSION

“We seek the strongest scholarship and the deepest piety, knowing that they are thoroughly compatible ... and a Christian environment where not only knowledge but character is sought.” From the University Catalog, 1915.

CAMPUS

Olivet Nazarene University has a beautiful, park-like campus featuring 35 major buildings on 275 acres. Located in the Village of Bourbonnais, Illinois, just 45 miles south of Chicago’s Loop, the campus is situated on what was once tallgrass prairie. While not much of the original habitat remains, caretakers of the University have spent the past few decades intentionally planting trees native to the area as well as diversifying the flora. In spring 2022, Olivet joined the ranks of 508 internationally accredited arboreta with a Level I Certification through the Morton Arboretum’s interactive community, ArbNet.

SPIRITUAL LIFE

This Christian community is committed to making worship of God the central focus of our lives. Our faith in Jesus Christ cannot be separated from the educational experience, and we seek to honor God in all we learn, say and do. Through chapel services, each segment of the University community has the opportunity to join with others in worship and receive instruction in the Word and encouragement to serve. Notable and world-renowned speakers regularly address the Olivet community during chapel.

ACCOLADES

Regularly among the Best Colleges in U.S. News Rankings, Olivet has also been a Top Ten Best Value for multiple years, as well as earning special recognition for Social Mobility. In 2024, Olivet was named a Four Star College by Money Magazine, and Forbes ranked the McGraw School of Business MBA No. 9 in the U.S. among Best MBA Accelerated Online Programs. A recognized College of Distinction for more than a dozen years, Olivet received special badges for the Schools of Business, STEM, Education and Nursing. Special recognition has also been awarded by Wallet Hub as a Top Ten Illinois College.

Your Future is Waiting

Pictures only tell half the story. You need to feel the energy on the Quad during Purple & Gold Days. Sit in on a class and watch ideas spark. Grab lunch with current students and ask the questions that really matter.

This place changes when you’re actually here. When it stops being “Olivet” and starts feeling like “your Olivet.” When you stop wondering if you’ll fit in and realize you already do.

Ready to see for yourself? The view from here is great.

We Believe. You Belong Here.
