stafford tea cup mat

Supplies Needed: 5: Fat 16 th’s (9” x 10 1/2”) or 5 Scraps at least 6” x 7” for mat fronts 1: Fat 1/8 White on White for embroidery 5: 2” x 30” strips for bindings 1/4 yard for mat backings 1: 2“ x 12” piece of cotton Pellon Iron on Interfacing 5: 6” x 7” pieces of batting Threads Needed: Thread to match your color palette I use and prefer Lecien Solid Cosmo 6 skien Floss Please feel free to use your favorite embroidery thread. You will need these colors: Pink, Coral, Butter, Lime, Lavender, Cream and Brown Gadgets Needed: #7 or #8 Embroidery Needles 3” or 5” small embroidery hoops 01 Black Micron Tracing pen Light Box for Tracing Cutting Instructions: Cut 5 rectangles 5” x 6 1/2” for fronts of mat Cut 5 rectangles 6” x 7” for back of mat Cut 5 squares 2“ x 2” of interfacing Cut 5 rectangles 6” x 7” of batting Embroidery and Applique instructions: 1. Trace five tea cups along with border around teacup onto the white and white fat 1/8th. 2. Iron on the 2“ squares of interfacing to the backs of the traced teacups. 3. Embroider the teacups. Use 2 strands of floss for all stitching. Be creative or use the stitch diagram Trace Diagram below for stitch placement. Stitch each of your teacups and borders in different color combination. Use the cream for the steam and brown for tea. 4. Cut 1/4” around the outside of your stitchery. Place your stitchery 1” from the bottom left of the mat and 1” from the bottom for an off center placement. Needle turn appliqué your stitchery down to the mat top. Repeat 4 times until all your mats are complete! Assembly Instructions: 1. Layer the top, batting and backing and quilt to your desire. 2. Trim the mat down. 3. Using your favorite binding method sew the binding on the mats to complete your set. 4. Enjoy!
