‘Creating
a space of tactile surfaces to enhance your senses. A space where the unfinished materials age, where each time you go back, it changes’

‘The aim of the space was to create a rich, high end and maximilist jewelery store. Every surface is to be felt, to enhance your journey through the space. The raw materials used to patina and age. The fluid motion of the draping curtains above contrasts with these harsher materials and guides you through the space’
‘Bayt is Arabic for house, and while it exemplifies domestic warmth, it also has poetic and religious connotations and serves as a reminder that true wealth goes beyond the material’ Bayt
With two families living in the space, a family of 4 and a single mother and her child, the need to maximise the space as much as possible was evident. Adding extensions to the apartment allowed for additional spaces on the first level such as a secondary bathroom, lounge and roof garden.

CONCEPT
‘Using
strong influence of the Mexican Architecture, materiality and the Traditional talavera vase, I was able to create lustrous curved feature ribbons that span across the ceiling of the restaurant drenched in texture and colours of the architecture.’

Restaurant Design

Heavy inspiration from the curves of the vase where carefully considered to ensure the concept and the idea of the vase itself was portrayed throughout the restaurant. The sketches to the right are indicative of the vases curves and a abstract vase. The way in which in weaves through the holes helps to create moments and spaces that allow the diners to feel that they are sitting within the vase.’

‘The idea of movement and flow through the dining space allowed the diners to experience the Restaurant in another view. The oversized drapes that twists and turns above you guides your eyes to elements that are influenced by Mexican architecture, materiality and the vase.’
THE KURRAJONG HOTEL
KURRAJONG
The name Kurrajong comes from a native Australian tree. The concept for the hotel was based off the structure of the tree from the roots, to the trunk, foliage, seeds, leaves and flowers.

Right - Rich dark tones of the bistro represent the darkness of the root systems of the kurrajong tree. The hints of light are peep holes through to the next space.
The ground floor, “Roots + Earth’ is represented through the soft organic curves of the joinery and floor feature tiles. The rich tones enhance earths natural tones.
The first level, ‘Trunk + Wood’, can been seen through elements of symmetry and the colours through the selected materials ans spatial arrangement.’
‘Seeds + Foliage’ through to the Second floor is represented through the colours of the seed pods and the dark green tones of
Lastly, the rooftop garden, “Flower + Foli age,’ speaks for itself with light soft pastels and a bunch of greenery through the commu

‘Roots Bistro + Boutique Florist gives the community a unique boutique pub experience like no other. The deep rich tones that ooze from the selected Materiality allows the diners to immerse themselves within. The organic curved ceiling feature and bar guides the customers through the bistro to levels above and enhances the roots concept.’
Right Top - The bistro unisex bathrooms where not missed when designing the space. The dark tones through the tiles enhances the idea of the root system weaving its way through the lower ground floor plan
Right Bottom - A close up of the bar centered in the middle of the bistro. This curved double circle bar allows the diners to utalise the entire bar at all sides and provides opportunity for them to sit and chat whilst their drinks are made.
GROUND FLOOR - BISTRO / PUB + BOUTIQUE RETAIL
FIRST FLOOR - CAFE + FUNCTION SPACES
‘The Trunk Cafe. Lighter tones throughout the floor mimics the natural tones of the tree trunk. Hanging plants from the center ceiling feature allows the users to look up at the next level of the Kurrajong Hotel, the seeds and foliage of the tree. The multi-purpose modular space creates opportunities for the users to experience the space in a more open setting’
FOLIAGE + SEEDS - Boutique Hotel + Speak Easy Bar
Top Left - Custom joinery throughout the hotel is seen in order to bring the concept of the kurrajong tree to life. The Boutique Hotel Room Wardrobe and mini bar was a main focal point in this space allowing to maximise space in such small rooms.
Bottom Left - The bathroom entrance in the hotel rooms showing a separate external vanity and how the custom joinery is a main item within this space.
Top Right - The Speak Easy Bar is lux and high end with and intimate setting allowing for around 10-15 people.
Bottom Right - The back head board of the beds are custom fluted velvet. This lux material creates soft acoustics to the space and a change in materiality and texture amongst the bold glam golds and glass.
‘Seed
Hotel. A rich, textural and intimate space is created using a variety of rich greens, dark timbers, burl veneer, traditional lighting, gold details and aged brass mirrors.
SECOND FLOOR - BOUTIQUE HOTEL + SPEAK EASY
The light well penetrates through the rooftop and is surrounded by greenery. The light will travel through and flood the lower levels with a natural light that users can experience on most levels.
The colours and materials used come from the flowers and leaves of the kurrajong tree allowing for subtle pops and bringing a lively community spirit.
