OLEMISSSPORTS.COM REBS PICKED SIXTH IN PRESEASON POLL Ole Miss was projected to finish sixth in the SEC preseason media poll. Kentucky was predicted as the league champion followed by Florida, Arkansas, LSU and Georgia. SUMMERS CLIMBS THE CAREER CHARTS Senior G Jarvis Summers recently passed Jack Waters for 15th on the Ole Miss all-scoring list with 1,415 career points. Summers also ranks sixth all time in 3-point FG percentage (.385) and sixth all time in assists (419). See page 7 for updated career records. SUMMERS LEADS THE SEC Senior G Jarvis Summers is the SEC active career leader in points (1,415); assists (419); minutes played (3,296); and wins (74). EMERALD COAST CLASSIC CHAMPS Junior G Stefan Moody scored a career-high 26 points, including 17 in the second half, as Ole Miss handed Cincinnati its first loss of the season with a 66-54 victory in the championship of the inaugural Emerald Coast Classic. The Rebels scored six straight points to break a 14-14 tie, retaining the lead the rest of the way. Ole Miss held Cincinnati in check offensively, as the Bearcats shot a seasonlow 30.4 percent from the floor and went almost 10 minutes without a field goal. It was the second-straight regular-season tournament title for Ole Miss. Moody was named the tournament MVP and senior G Jarvis Summers was named to the all-tournament team. POWER CONFERENCE WINS The Rebels’ win over Oregon gave Ole Miss another win over a power conference after the Rebels posted victories over the AAC (Cincinnati) and Big East (Creighton) at the Emerald Coast Classic earlier this year. It also gave the Rebels victories over teams from three different major conferences for the first time since 2011-12, when Ole Miss earned wins over the ACC (Miami), Big East (DePaul) and Big Ten (Penn State). The Rebels are now 13-6 against Power-5 conferences under head coach Andy Kennedy. SUMMERS NAMED TO COUSY AWARD WATCH LIST Senior G Jarvis Summers was one of 35 players recently named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List by Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men’s college basketball. SUMMERS EARNS PRESEASON HONORS Senior G Jarvis Summers was named to the All-SEC first team in a preseason poll of both the leagues’ coaches and media. He was also selected the preseason SEC Player of the Year and first team allconference by CBSSports.com. In addition, Summers was named the second-most undervalued player in the nation by Jay Bilas, who rated Summers the ninth-best point guard in the nation. DEFENDING HOME COURT Winning at home has been a trademark of Andy Kennedy’s squads since he took the reins in 200607. Ole Miss is 116-27 (.811 win pct.) in games played at Tad Smith Coliseum during Kennedy’s tenure. The Rebels had their 23 game non-conference home winning streak dating back to 2010 snapped last season with the loss to No. 13 Oregon. Ole Miss has won 247 of its last 306 games (.807 win pct.) in Oxford dating back to the 1995-96 campaign. The Rebels have an all-time record of 480-206 (.700 win pct.) at Tad Smith Coliseum, which opened in 1965-66. NEW ARENA ON THE HORIZON With $125 million in pledges and cash, the Forward Together Capital Campaign entered its building phase last year as Ole Miss works its way towards a new basketball arena. The building phase will focus on the Rebels’ new basketball arena and a five-story parking garage with 800 spaces serving the entire campus community. Construction on the new arena began in the spring of 2014 with the goal to open the arena no later than January 2016, which would be in time for conference action.

Game 21| Feb. 1, 2014 Ole Miss 75, South Carolina 71 Oxford, Miss. | Tad Smith Coliseum

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Stefan Moody scored 25 points and Jarvis Summers added 23 for the Rebels, who beat Kentucky 30-26 in the paint and controlled the boards for much of the game, before falling to No. 1 Kentucky 89-86 in overtime Tuesday night. Aaron Harrison scored 26 points, including two big free throws with 1:29 remaining in overtime to put Kentucky ahead to stay, and the top-ranked Wildcats withstood three final Ole Miss attempts to rally before escaping with a victory. Overwhelming favorites against an Ole Miss squad they had beaten 102 times in 115 previous meetings, the Wildcats (14-0, 1-0 SEC) instead survived a back-and-forth battle with the determined Rebels in their Southeastern Conference opener. Especially in OT, as missed free throws down the stretch gave the Rebels chances to either go ahead or tie the game. Ole Miss couldn’t take advantage as LaDarius White missed on one possession and the Rebels (9-5, 0-1) lost the ball out of bounds on the next. The Rebels had one last opportunity after Trey Lyles missed two free throws with 15.4 seconds left, but Martavious Newby’s 3-pointer bounced high and was grabbed by Willie Cauley-Stein to keep Kentucky unbeaten. Summers had a chance to win it at the end of regulation, but his 3-point attempt with 4 seconds left bounced high off the rim with the game tied at 77. Though the Rebels fell short of pulling off a huge upset, they succeeded in giving Kentucky the scare that few expected the Wildcats to face in the SEC. Ole Miss led several times late before Kentucky battled back thanks to Aaron Harrison, who hit a big 3-pointer with 6:40 left for a 66-63 Kentucky lead. But Summers’ 18 points after halftime kept the Rebels in it.

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Jarvis Summers scored 8 of Ole Miss’ last 11 points and the Rebels closed the game on a 29-10 run, as Ole Miss came from behind to knock off South Carolina 75-71 Saturday afternoon. Marshall Henderson scored 21 points and Summers added 15 as Ole Miss rallied from a 15-point deficit in the second half to beat the Gamecocks. Summers was the catalyst in the comeback, making several clutch plays in the final minutes. He hit a 3-pointer with just under 4 minutes remaining that gave the Rebels a 67-66 lead — their first of the second half. Then the 6-foot-3 guard hit an 18-foot jumper and a layup to keep the Rebels ahead in the tense final minutes. He also tipped away in the loose ball as the clock wound down, allowing Ole Miss to keep possession and hang on for the victory. He finished 6-of-11 from the field and had eight assists. White scored 12 and Aaron Jones added 11. The Rebels (15-6, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) shot 44.1 percent (26 of 59) from the field. South Carolina pushed ahead 61-46 with 10:53 remaining, but that’s when Ole Miss started its methodical comeback. South Carolina’s Brenton Williams scored 23 points and Sindarius Thornwell added 18. The Gamecocks (8-13, 1-7) also lost to Ole Miss 75-74 on Feb. 1 in Columbia.

Game 2 | Nov. 17, 2014 Ole Miss 74, Troy 64 Troy, Ala. | Trojan Arena

OXFORD, Miss. - Trailing for much of the game, Ole Miss went ahead 65-64 with 1:06 left in overtime on a 3-pointer from LaDarius White. Ole Miss had the ball, up one with a six second difference in shot clock and game clock before turning the ball over out of bounds, giving the ball back to Charleston Southern with 8.2 seconds left. In a furious finish, Saah Nimley missed the initial layup, but Cedrick Bowen followed with a tip-dunk with 0.1 seconds to give Charleston Southern a 66-65 overtime win in the season opener for both teams Friday night. Ole Miss was not able to overcome an inefficient offensive performance, as they went 19-of-63 from the field and 6-of-30 from 3-point range with 17 turnovers. The Rebels were also outrebounded 54-50, including 19-16 on the offensive glass. Martavious Newby led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds, one point shy of his career high. He was also efficient, going 4-for-5 from the field, 2-for-2 from 3-point range and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Newby was joined in double figures by senior M.J. Rhett, who scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in his Ole Miss debut. White and Jarvis Summers, who fouled out with 2:06 left in regulation, added eight points each for the Rebels. Down 29-17 at halftime, Ole Miss rallied in the second half behind some timely baskets by Newby and Rhett, tying the game at 54-54 with 3:24 left on a jumper from Rhett. Charleston Southern went back ahead 57-54 before Stefan Moody sent the game into overtime tied 57-57 on a runner in the lane with 16 seconds left, getting his ninth field goal attempt to go down after missing each of his first eight. Friday night’s loss to Charleston Southern snapped a 10-game winning streak for Ole Miss in season openers, including the first loss in a season opener under Kennedy. The Rebels return to action, going on the road to play at Troy on Monday night.

TROY, Ala. - Senior guard Jarvis Summers scored 21 points, while junior Stefan Moody and senior LaDarius White added 14 points each, as Ole Miss defeated Troy 74-64 Monday. The Rebels (1-1) shot 50 percent from the field and outrebounded the Trojans 42-28. Saiz led the Rebels in rebounds, pulling down nine boards, while White added eight. Moody, a junior college transfer, added all 14 points in the second half. The Kissimmee, Florida, native’s basket with two and half minutes remaining gave Ole Miss its biggest lead at 70-55. Troy never led. Wesley Person scored 25 points for the Trojans, the most by a Troy freshman in at least 14 years, to lead the Trojans (1-1). The Trojans, down 34-23 at halftime, pulled within four early in the second half, but Ole Miss scored on its next four possessions, capped by a basket by Summers and led 44-32. After Troy sliced the lead to five with 13 minutes left, the Rebels scored-six straight points, including four by Moody. Sophomore Sebastian Saiz added eight points, while senior M.J. Rhett finished with six points and six rebounds. Freshman Marcanvis Hymon saw his first collegiate action, scoring two points and pulling down two boards.

NICEVILLE, Fla. - Jarvis Summers led the Rebels with 23 points, while LaDarius White added 18, including 16 in the second half, as Ole Miss defeated No. 23 Creighton 75-68 at the Emerald Coast Classic Friday. Martavious Newby and M.J. Rhett added nine points apiece for Ole Miss (4-1) which will take on 5-0 Cincinnati - a 69-51 winner over Middle Tennessee in the first semifinal - in Saturday night’s championship game. Summers was 9-of-10 at free-throw line and Newby was 4-of-4 - all in the final 20 seconds - as the Rebels finished 19-of-21 overall from the line. After trailing by six at halftime and 65-63 after Toby Hegner hit one of two free throws with 2:13 remaining, Ole Miss took the lead for good on Newby’s 3-pointer from the wing with just under 1:45 to play. Rhett followed Brooks’ missed 1-and-1 free throw with a baseline jumper, and Summers and Newby combined to sink 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to close out the comeback. Ole Miss got the early jump, scoring the game’s first four points and led 16-10 with just under 13 minutes to play in the half before Zierden caught fire and scored nine points in a 17-2 Creighton run over the ensuing 4:30.

NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Junior guard Stefan Moody scored a career-high 26 points, including 17 in the second half, as Ole Miss handed Cincinnati its first loss of the season with a 66-54 victory in the championship of the inaugural Emerald Coast Classic basketball tournament held at The Arena Saturday night. The Rebels scored six straight points to break a 14-14 tie, retaining the lead the rest of the way. Cincinnati struggled offensively, shooting a season-low 30.4 percent from the floor after hitting a season-high 56.8 percent in a 69-51 triumph past Middle Tennessee State Friday night. Clinging to a 30-25 halftime lead, the 5-foot 10-inch Moody ignited the Rebels in the second half with his penetration producing twisting layups in the paint through the Cincinnati offense. He also hit three three-point baskets. Moody was named the tournament’s most valuable performer and was joined by senior guard Jarvis Summers, the leading active score in the SEC, on the 10-man alltournament team. The Rebels shot a sizzling 62.5 percent in the second half, hitting 10 of 16 shots. That allowed Ole Miss to construct its biggest lead at 52-33 with 10:22 left following a free throw by Moody.

Game 8 | Dec. 7, 2014 Ole Miss 79, Oregon 73 Eugene, Ore. | Matthew Knight Arena

OXFORD, Miss. - Junior guard Stefan Moody led Ole Miss with 12 points, as the Rebels fell to TCU 66-54 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Thursday. TCU (8-0) held Ole Miss (5-2) to a season-low 29.8 percent from the field, including a 7:11 scoring drought in the second half, during which the Horned Frogs turned a fivepoint lead into a decisive 18-point lead. Moody was the lone Rebel in double figures, his team-leading fifth game in double figures this season, scoring seven of his 12 points in the second half. Sophomore forward Sebastian Saiz was second on the team with nine points, followed by senior guard Jarvis Summers with eight. Senior forward M.J. Rhett led the Rebels with seven rebounds. In a back-and-forth first half that featured three ties and 10 lead changes, TCU took a 27-24 lead into the locker room. It was a defensive battle for much of the half, as the teams combined to go 16-of-53 from the field. TCU did its damage from 3-point range, where they went 4-of-8, while Ole Miss remained close by going 8-of-10 from the free-throw line, despite going 7-of-28 from the field and 0-of-6 from 3-point range. Ole Miss scored the first points of the second half, drawing to within one, before TCU answered with a 6-0 run to stretch the lead to seven. The Rebels battled back to within five, 42-37, with 13:06 left, before the Horned Frogs went on a 13-0 run and took their lead out to 55-37 with 5:55 left.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The smallest player on the floor provided the perfect exclamation point for Ole Miss’ statement win on Sunday. Stefan Moody’s two-handed dunk with 36 seconds left punctuated his 22-point performance that helped lead the Rebels (6-2) to a 79-73 victory over Oregon and avenged an overtime loss at home to the Ducks (5-3) last season. The 5-foot-10 Moody was one of five Rebels to reach double figures, which didn’t include leading scorer Jarvis Summers, who finished with just one point. Sebastian Saiz added 17 points for Ole Miss, which also had three players off the bench in double figures. LaDarius White finished with 13 points, and Aaron Jones and Dwight Coleby had 10 each. Freshman Dillon Brooks led the Ducks with a season-high 21 points, and Pac-12 scoring leader Joseph Young added 17. It was Oregon’s first loss in six home games. Ole Miss outscored the Ducks 35-5 in points off the bench. M.J. Rhett and Martavious Newby led Ole Miss to a 46-39 rebounding edge with seven each. There were seven ties and 17 lead changes in the first half before the Rebels went on a 10-0 run to move ahead 33-24. Oregon missed eight consecutive shots during Ole Miss’ spurt, including a four on one possession. The Rebels closed out the half with a little luck when Rhett swatted home a rebound tip before Moody banked in a floater from the top of the key at the buzzer for his fourth 3 and a 47-33 advantage.

OXFORD, Miss. - Junior Stefan Moody knocked down a career-high six 3-pointers and led the Rebels with 25 points, but Ole Miss (6-3) was unable to overcome a secondsurge from Western Kentucky in a 81-74 loss Saturday afternoon. The Hilltoppers (4-4) shot 51.9 percent from field in the second half, including 6-of12 from 3-point range, outscoring the Rebels 41-18 over the last 14:49 of the game. The Rebels shot 53 percent from the field and held the Hilltoppers to just 33 percent shooting, including a 3:55 field-goal drought.

OXFORD, Miss. - Behind a career-high 26 points from senior guard LaDarius White, Ole Miss overcame a 17-point deficit to knock off Coastal Carolina 71-68 on Thursday night at Tad Smith Coliseum. The Rebels shot 60.9 percent in the second half, as they overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to win for the first time this season. White was an efficient 7-of-13 from the field, 6-of-8 from 3-point range and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, setting another career high with six made 3-pointers. He was joined in double figures by fellow senior guard Jarvis Summers (16 points) and junior guard Stefan Moody (11 points). Coastal Carolina made six of their first eight shots, including their first five from 3-point range, on the way to 66.7 percent shooting from the floor and 8-of-11 shooting from 3-point range in the first half. The Chanticleers led by as many as 17 and went into halftime leading 41-28. Sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from White, Ole Miss opened the second half on an 8-4 run, drawing to within single digits. The Chanticleers pushed the lead back to double digits, and then the Rebels answered with an 18-3 run, taking their first lead of the game, 54-53, with 8:21 left in the game. The Chanticleers rallied, taking advantage of two Ole Miss turnovers and going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, to tie the game at 66-66 with under a minute left. Moody then gave the Rebels a 68-66 lead with two free throws, and then an offensive foul for Coastal Carolina gave the ball back to Ole Miss, after which Summers made one of two free throws to extend the lead to 69-66.

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - Terence Smith made the move to Ole Miss as a graduate transfer over the summer, hoping to add a little scoring punch to the Rebels’ offense after three successful seasons at Tennessee-Martin. The 6-foot-4 senior guard scored 16 points, including making three 3-pointers, and M.J. Rhett added 14 as Mississippi coasted to an 82-51 victory over Southeast Missouri at Landers Center. Smith had made just 1 of 14 attempts from 3-point range before Monday’s win. Smith and Rhett both had season-highs in points. Ole Miss (8-3) was in control from the beginning, jumping out to a 19-4 lead after making eight of its first 10 attempts from the field. It was Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy’s 200th career victory. He reached the mark in 10 seasons -- nine with the Rebels and one at Cincinnati. The Rebels’ final margin of 31 points was their largest of the game, but they led by double figures throughout the second half. They’ve won three of their past four games. Southeast Missouri (5-7) couldn’t dig out of the early hole and never led. Jarekious Bradley led the Redhawks with 10 points. Ole Miss continues to build chemistry after adding Smith and Rhett during the offseason. Rhett is also a graduate transfer from Tennessee State and both have slowly adapted to the Rebels’ offense. Rhett, a 6-foot-9 forward, made 6 of 7 shots from the field in 19 minutes on the floor. Smith was averaging just 2.1 points per game before Monday’s outburst.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Jarvis Summers led the Rebels with 20 points and LaDarius White added 14, but Ole Miss (8-4) fell to Dayton (10-2) Tuesday night. Dayton held off a late Ole Miss surge to win 78-74. Dayton had held a comfortable lead for most of the game, and led 75-65 with 1:42 left in regulation. But the Rebels stormed back to pull within three points, 77-74, on a three-pointer by guard LaDarius White with 15.5 seconds left. The Flyers’ Pierre made one of two free throws on the ensuing play and the Rebels couldn’t get any closer. Dayton entered Tuesday’s game with an 11-game home win streak, dating to last season, and their hometown confidence was obvious for most of the game. Dayton led by as much as 16 in the first half as the Rebels committed eight turnovers. Ole Miss chipped away and made five of its last six field goals before halftime, but Dayton led 41-32 at the break. The Rebels pulled within seven points early in the second half. Ole Miss held the advantage on the boards, outrebounding Dayton, 44-33.

OXFORD, Miss. - Four players scored in double figures, led by senior guard Jarvis Summers with 18 points, as Ole Miss rolled past Austin Peay 92-63 on Saturday at the Tad Smith Coliseum. Summers was 6-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and 4-of4 from the free-throw line, as he finished in double figures for the third straight game. Junior guard Stefan Moody was second on the team with 14 points, his team-leading 10th game in double figures this season. Sophomore forward Dwight Coleby finished a career-high 12 points and tied a career high with seven rebounds and senior guard Terence Smith added 10 points, as the Ole Miss bench outscored the Austin Peay bench 39-10. The Rebels (9-4) shot a seasonbest 54.8 percent (34-of-62) from the floor and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from 3-point range and dished out a season-high 23 assists compared to just 11 turnovers. The Governors (5-9) made each of their four shots of the game, during which they built a 10-4 lead, before the Rebels went on a 12-2 run, holding them to 1-of-10 shooting during the stretch, to take a 16-12 lead with 11:12 left in the half. After three ties and four lead changes, Ole Miss went ahead for good, 21-19, on a jumper from senior M.J. Rhett with 5:29 left in the half. The Rebels finished the half on a 14-3 run, highlighted by a breakaway dunk from senior forward Aaron Jones and a pair of 3-pointers from Moody and Summers, to take a 42-29 lead into halftime. Ole Miss led by double digits the rest of the way, leading by as many as 31, as the Rebels shot 61.3 percent and outscored Austin Peay 50-34 in the second half on the way to the 92-63 final.
