Ole Miss Rebels (10-10, 1-5 SEC) Head Coach: Matt Insell Career: 10-10 at OLE MISS: First Year

1

Ole Miss snapped its five-game losing streak with an 87-85 overtime victory against Mississippi State on Thursday. The win, the second consecutive over the Bulldogs, gave the Rebels their first SEC win of the season and the first in their last 11 tries. The win was also the first SEC victory for head coach Matt Insell.

2

For the second time this season the Rebels had two double-doubles. Tia Faleru tied her career high with 29 points and 15 rebounds and Valencia McFarland scored 27 points and had 12 assists. Faleru’s double-double was her 10th of the season and is the most for an Ole Miss player since Nikki Byrd had 12 in 2011-12.

3

Valencia McFarland recorded her third consecutive game of 20+ points with 27 against Mississippi State; she has scored 20+ in three straight games on two occasions this season. Additionally, she has played every minute of the last three games. She is averaging 26.6 points and 41.6 minutes in Ole Miss’ last three games.

4

The overtime was the first OT game for Ole Miss in 2013-14 but was the second between Ole Miss and Mississippi State in the last four meetings. Ole Miss has played at least one OT game in the last three seasons and is 10-5 in games at home and 18-21 overall.

5

Valencia McFarland was named to the 2014 Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List on Jan. 15. The award is given to the nation’s top point guard. McFarland is one of 29 players on the Watch List and joins Arkansas’ Calli Berna, Tennessee’s Ariel Massengale and Texas A&M’s Jordan Jones.
