ARCHITECTURE + QUARRY
TYPE: ACADEMIC
YEAR: 2023
LOCATION: ÚSTÍ NAD LABEM
Brief
Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, is a city with deep historical roots and a strong connection to its iconic quarry, Mariánská Skála (Mariana Rock). Until the 1970s, the quarry was operated for the extraction of rare minerals such as natrolite.

Natrolite is a rare, needle-like zeolite mineral found in volcanic rocks. It is known for its clear, white, or pink crystals and is valued by collectors. Due to its porous structure, it is also used in water purificationandionexchange.
Ustí nad Labem
The project is located in the city of Ústí nad Labem, a city on the northern side of the Czech Republic, known for its abandoned quarry with great historical value. The goal was to integrate the architecture with the quarry’s history while also adding value to the city.

SENIOR HOUSING IN REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT
TYPE: MASTER’S THESIS
YEAR: 2024
LOCATION: SAGVÅG
My master’s thesis is based on a real site in the center of Sagvåg, a village on the west coast of Norway shaped by 1970s industry.
The developer plans to build apartments for seniors and retirees, and I had the opportunity to design for an actual project through a family connection.
The site will accommodate six identical buildings, with a focus on economically sustainable solutions tailored to elderly residents.

INTRODUCTION
Brief
I explored the aging population and isolation among the elderly to examine how architecture can address social challenges and foster a sense of freedom. Central themes include “senior housing” and “shared living,” aimed at promoting social interaction and community.
Of the six planned buildings, one is for shared use, offering a space for activities and gatherings. The remaining five consist of private units, designed with accessibility and connection to the local area in mind.
01 APARTMENTS
01 Description
The building features six identical private apartments, designed to suit the site’s topography and regulations. The wooden slat facade offers weather protection and a semiopen atmosphere, balancing privacy and social interaction. The 60–70 m² apartments are ideal for individuals or couples.

02 Description
The community house is part of the project, serving as a meeting place for the residents. Here, the residents can decide when they want to socialize. Additionally, the residents will be responsible for simple maintenance tasks such as cleaning and gardening.

Commonhouse:

It fosters a sense of community with a cozy fireplace corner, as well as a shared kitchen and dining room where residents can gather and build relationships.
03 Description
The workshop serves a practical purpose, allowing residents to share tools and equipment, and offering a space for those seeking shelter with a friend or group.

ALTERNATIVE HOUSING AND COMMERCIAL SPACES IN CENTRAL PRAGUE
TYPE: BACHELOR’S THESIS
YEAR: 2022
LOCATION: PRAGUE
Brief
The project explores a typology aimed at revitalizing an area with challenging terrain, heavy traffic, and untapped potential. The site, Malá Strana, is a historically significant part of Prague, strategically located on the city’s outskirts, with Prague Castle situated just above. The area serves as a vital link between the northern districts and the city center.

Revitalizing Urban Spaces
‘Affordable housing’ and ‘co-housing’ have become increasingly relevant topics in recent years. Community living with shared housing solutions not only addresses challenges related to isolation but also demands innovative approaches to developing and utilizing areas with limited space.
The project aims to meet the residents’ needs while also incorporating public functions in response to the area’s high activity and economic potential.

KINDERGARTEN, GREEN SPACE, AND LEAN-TO TYPE: ACADEMIC
YEAR: 2020
LOCATION: PRAGUE
Brief
Prague’s University Hospital was founded in the 1790s and has played a significant and central role in Prague’s medical history.
The project is located in an area called “Kateřinská Gardens.” In this green space, the hospital will explore the possibility of building a kindergarten to care for the children of staff during the day.

Design
The goal was to create a design that would blend seamlessly into the park and relate to its surroundings. The concept behind the design is a lean-to shelter, where the ground is “cut out” and lifted, creating an interactive roof. The kindergarten is divided into four sections, with a shared dining hall and kitchen. The staff room has an open ceiling with a glass wall separating the sections.
