Through research we develop the next generation of care and treatments, bringing hope to thousands battling heart disease. Our Free Medical Clinic opens a pathway to treat those that may not otherwise have access to specialized services. Today heart disease is deadly. patient spotlight "DR. COLLIER SAVED MY LIFE. AFTER GETTING MY DEVICE PUT IN, I'M FEELING BETTER THAN EVER."

Charlie was not feeling well and was struggling to walk short distances, so he went to the OHH emergency room. Further testing revealed that he had lost complete electrical function in part of his heart and would need a pacemaker immediately, making him one of very few patients completely dependent on the pacemaker to keep him alive.

Two years later, Charlie unexpectedly needed another surgery to replace his pacemaker. While Charlie was yet again facing a difficult situation, he received great news that he qualified to participate in a clinical trial that helped lessen the risks of the procedure.

“WRAP-IT is an antibiotic envelope used during a CRT replacement to help decrease the chance of infection.

None of the patients enrolled in the study that received the device had a post-operative infection. It’s so important that we always look for innovative ways to help our patients heal faster and return to a normal lifestyle.” -Jack Collier, MD Charlie made a full-recovery after the surgery and continues to see his OHH physicians regularly.

Good Samaritan Fund CARLA WAS HOMELESS

She was admitted to OHH in desperate need of valve surgery.

The surgery was a success, but she had no way of paying for her medications. Thankfully for Carla, Case Management arranged for her to be placed in a shelter at discharge and used OHHRF's Good Samaritan Fund to help provide all of her medication at discharge. She has followed her treatment plan and has made it to all of her follow-up appointments.

GERALDINE WAS FACING HEART FAILURE

She was admitted to the hospital and while working with Case Management to learn how to monitor complications of Heart Failure, they realized that she did not have a digital scale at home to monitor her weight. Elderly and home bound, Geraldine would have had a very hard time purchasing a scale. Thankfully for Geraldine, OHHRF's Good Samaritan Fund was there to provide her with a digital scale. Without these scales, she would not have been able to identify possible complications in time to prevent additional trips to the hospital.

Medical Clinic for the Uninsured WOODY COULD NOT AFFORD TO GO TO THE DOCTOR...

It’s a luxury that is often taken for granted. However, there are thousands of Oklahomans that do not have access to specialized care. For Woody Ford, this was his reality. A trip to the ER revealed that he had high blood pressure. A self-employed man with no insurance, he was unsure where to turn.

LUCKILY FOR WOODY, OHHRF WAS THERE TO HELP.

During an arteriogram ordered by Dr. Baber, the medical team realized the severity of his condition and sent him straight to the Heart Hospital. The next day, he underwent life-saving triple bypass open heart surgery, all thanks to the exceptional care he received at the Free Clinic.

It was Dr. Baber's empathy for patients like Woody that sparked his determination to create the clinic. In 2014, Oklahoma’s first and only free specialty clinic for the uninsured opened in Midwest City thanks to a partnership between OHHRF and Mercy.

Before the clinic opened, these patients found it very difficult to afford specialty care. They often waited up to six months for an appointment, which forced them to visit the emergency room.

Thanks to volunteer physicians and donors like you, the number of patients served continues to grow. The clinic served 380 patients the first year and over 800 patients in 2017 and has given away over $1.5 Million in services since inception. This would not be possible without your help!
