FROM THE CHRONIC TEAM October is already here? Weren't we just blowing things up to celebrate Independence Day? As strange as this year has been, it's also absolutely flown by. Before long, we'll be discussing holiday gift ideas for the cannabis patient in your life, but for now, let's focus on the candy. This Halloween is lining up to be a unique one for most of us, with limited gatherings still putting a stop to most parties or get-togethers for trick-or-treating, and while we're all getting rather tired of living in unprecedented times, we're rolling with the punches better than we were in March. Oklahoma's cannabis industry has been a powerhouse through the insanity, and while things don't seem to be calming down much, sharing your cannabis stories, recipes and tips has helped keep us here at the Chronic sane!

I remember my warning, the one that I get when a migraine is saying; “I’m coming through to wreck your next few days”. I was living in Ohio, a conservative, not at all a legal state at the time, sitting at my kitchen table with two friends. I was about to get up to consume medications that were bringing me drama along with the migraine, you know, the ones that doctors prescribe.

I was mad that I had to do this because, while the pills minimized my migraines at times, they added to my nausea, made my fingers tingle, and made me feel zombie-ish. After taking them for months, I developed symptoms that weren’t there before the prescriptions like; scattered thinking and difficulty remembering things.

Before taking the pills- my friend said something like “here you go about to pop those pills when all you need to do is hit this blunt a couple of times”.I was desperate and so, I did and the next day, purchased an eighth (3.5 grams) and I never took another doctor approved prescription again.

This plant was placed on earth by mother earth- Cannabis grows wild!

Cannabis is the curer of so much! The government only hates it because it threatens to expose them of so many lies like- Cannabis doesn’t make black men crave white women! Cannabis doesn’t create a lazy, bummish, unmotivated society- Cannabis is a multi-million almost billion-dollar industry! Lazy doesn’t make that kind of money.

All of my coming out stories are very unapologetic. I’ve always had this “I’m telling you simply because, your onion doesn’t matter, I’m going to do what I want anyway” feel about these sorts of things. So, when I told my other friends and family that I would be smoking Cannabis every day- I sort of said it just like that.

I shrugged shoulders at the questions and concerns about legality, safety, and it making me crazy (some people think THC is horrible thanks to our government). They didn’t experience what I did.

After those few inhales, they weren’t living with migraines 1-3 times a week, and they weren’t paying even a $1 toward the mortgage I had at the time.

I told everyone the same way, my mother included, and lived my life. If you came to my house- it smelled like Cannabis and I could care less.

I was getting quality of life back! I didn’t lose relationships, or work, or love. What I lost I couldn’t wait to get rid of!

Not all stories are as stoic as mine though, below are coming out stories for a few Cannabis consumers across the country.

Terry, TX: “I came out as a Marijuana consumer when I was 20 years old. I told my mother that I had been smoking weed when I was confronted with my stash that she found. At first, she was surprised that I was smoking weed, then after she got over the shock, she showed me how to roll a blunt. After she left my room, I noticed she pitched off my stash because I had an ounce of Chocolate Thai, then when I weighed my weed, it was a halfounce”.

LadyyHaze, CA: “I told them in 2017, I was raped and had been hiding it for a long time. I had too many mental breakdowns consistently and it became toooo much. I needed to be honest about why I wasn’t coming home anymore.I told them about my selfdiagnosis and that I decided to treat with Cannabis, meditation, and deep isolation for 1-2 years."

Dominique, NJ: “The first Cannabis conversation with my children, came randomly about 3 years ago. Our oldest child was 9 years old, and she and I were on our way to the store. My husband had just passed us in the doorway, home from work, smelling like DANK! My daughter must have seen him smoking through the window, because when we got in the car, she immediately commented:‘Mom…why do you and Daddy smoke? It’s bad for you.’

Just like that…no official sit down, no warning.

I had to think quickly, and answer truthfully. So, I did what any parent caught up in their own shit would do; answered a question with a question:‘What makes you think we smoke?’ My daughter came back with no hesitation, ‘I saw Daddy smoking on the porch. That’s what you do when we go play or go to sleep. Sometimes you smell like smoke.’ Officially caught!”

Every day, there is at least 1 person in the world coming out of their Cannabis closets. One day very soon, consuming Cannabis will be as normal as drinking water. Little by little, we will create a Cannabis accepting and loving world.

If you ran an outdoor crop, you likely survived a number of horrors to get here. Between fighting plague-like pests and the Oklahoma heat and high winds, you: Grower, are of hardy stock.

You: Champion of Nature, have reached the last lap and are excitedly awaiting Harvest Day – the best day of the year (or the cycle, whatevs)!

This is the best day because it’s the last day you have to worry about most pests, watering, wind, light, or – really anything, because the air is heavily scented with the intoxicating aromas of your beautiful plants as they crest their final hill on their way to your desired method of consumption.

The next phase of your journey is all about patience and while drying and curing may be on your mind, you need to focus on the now and you need to do everything possible to ensure that your harvest runs smoothly and efficiently. This is taxing work, after all, and you don’t want to spend any more time breaking your back than necessary.

You need supplies for Harvest Day and I will list them at the end of this article. I have good recommendations, so check them out.

My strongest advice is this: DEFOLIATE. Just like prepping for a hot date, your lovely ladies need to get clean and perky before their big day. In the 24 to 48 hours before you harvest I urge you to defoliate your plants completely. Twig ‘em. Full Brazilian.

You don’t need fan leaves any longer and I am of the mindset that stripping the plant forces the last push of cannabinoids and terpenes into the flower and sugar leaves.

There are other ways to harvest and other methods to follow, but thanks to helping a trim crew this summer, I think I have perfected an efficient harvest.

MY STRONGEST ADVICE IS THIS: DEFOLIATE

Follow me if you will: It’s a Wednesday night in early August when a girlfriend of mine hits me up that she needs help on a trim job she accepted. She was running a trim crew and had landed a job in Tulsa. I reside in Oklahoma City, but I know peeps up north and being hands-on with cannabis again after months in isolation was a siren’s call too tempting to ignore. I know the value of a giving a hard day’s work in exchange for a lifetime of knowledge so I was off the next morning, eager to leap back into my passion and learn how to trim – a part of the process I have managed to escape in my time as a grower.

The ride up was filled with reconnecting and cheerleading. We spent great energy reminding each other, after a long time apart, why we are the kickass people we are.

Along the drive, we picked up her grown-up best friend, a person who clearly loves and looks after my childhood best friend. I knew we were set to dominate this job and establish a great reputation for her company, a model designed around empowering women in the cannabis industry.

We arrived, a little later than planned, and were given a sweeping tour of the facility: a multi-room grow with lush, green plants and clean floors and tables, something that I perceive to indicate pride and care. We returned to the trim room, a large open room, lined with tables and crews of people in various stages of the harvest/trim process.

I don’t want to call it a scene out of a cartel movie because my work life is a scene out of a cartel movie, but I am not saying it wasn’t like a scene out of a cartel movie. Here’s what I can say about that first couple days: gumption be damned, we knew nothing about a full harvest, wet trim, and finish trim.

The first day, we worked roughly four or five hours with a crew of four. We were given whole plant. Read that again. Whole plant: Just stalked at the “soil” and handed to us. The desired end result at this stage was a defoliated and wet-trimmed plant, still on the stem. We tried to efficiently defoliate absolute shrubs, some a little wilted as naturally occurs after cutting, with very little progress.

Hanging the plant from the wire strung around the room did make this process more efficient, however – the movement to defoliate when the plant is hanging upside down is counter intuitive to the entire gardening process. Picking leaf in this manner is not the most efficient way to clean the plant of this lessdesired biomass. Our plant count was nine plants defoliated. We left our first day resolved to come in on time and maximize the next day.

Day two was more fruitful than day one but by morning three, we’d built a kit with gloves, isopropyl alcohol, paper towels, gum, and earbuds because any good grower or trimmer knows the key to high productivity is to get in the groove and be prepared.

We didn’t arrive exactly on time, but look, we work in the weed business.

What even IS time?

The first three days focused on wet plant, as we didn’t yet have any dry plant to trim. Day four provided us the opportunity to dry trim the plants we defoliated and wet-trimmed on our first day.

The garden we were working in dried the flower on the stem in as whole a plant as possible, hanging in a dim, humidity-controlled room with gently moving air. The theory for this method is that the xylem cells of the plant stalk will carry the remaining nutrients to the bud by force of gravity while hanging and drying.

By this theory, one can conclude a moderately delayed dry time compared to bucking and drying in a tray due to the moisture in the stems.

My recommendation for this method is to dry two to three days, hanging at 60 F – 70 F with gentle airflow. Aim for humidity around 50%, which provides me, the writer, the opportunity to recommend that you – the small scale or home grower – purchase a humidifier *and* dehumidifier. I don’t have a brand or anything because I don’t want you to @ me if you don’t like my rec.

Just do your research or ask the grow supply store near you. Those guys know what they’re talking about.

Also, shop local. Or is it lOKal, now?

When the chonky nugs, or colas, at the tops of your drying plants feel like a marshmallow that has gone stale enough to have a “crust” but is still spongy on the inside, you’re at prime dry trim time. This is where we learned to buck the nugs off the plant, separate the bud from the larf and collect our trim.

For the harvesting part of the job, I had to rock hip hop and electronic playlists. Harvesting is labor intensive, and like growing, needs fast rhythms to achieve ultimate efficiency. I dance while I do pretty much everything so I am getting nothing done with enthusiasm if my playlist isn’t fire. Trimming was a little harder to pin down, phonically, due to the nature of it being a rather still job. I finally settled on chill-hop, my favorite vibe for meditating and set to work.

Bucking plant from the stem by hand was most efficient for me if I took a good pair of snips and cut each stem away from the main stalk so that I could lay them neatly in the trim pan. From these collected stems, I snipped the bud end from the larf end and dragged my fingers down the larfy twig to pop it off and toss it in the larf bin.

It’s worth spending a few minutes at the end sifting through this bin for overlooked nugs but one should not put much effort to this endeavor, in my opinion.

The money is in the buds so focus your efforts there. Each nug is attached to the stem at a node. If you have cleanly defoliated the plant and reduced it to only the bones that have nugs, you should be able to easily see where the stem and nug join. Snip the nug and leave a little stem to hold onto as you trim.

You’re near the finish line of this months-long marathon and you are eager to search that bin for the most opulent representation of your hard work and sacrifice. The nug that’s going on the gram is in that pile. If you are a patient and not at work in a medical marijuana facility, I suggested you go consume for this. I prefer a joint or a bowl, you may want to roll a blunt or 710 it. Just come back with your head right and your shoulders relaxed.

Don’t forget to stretch. It’s not yoga, bro.

Set your playlist, glove up, and get to work. I use curved scissors.

Chikamaskas, to be specific. They don’t have a spring and they glide smooth like mustache scissors. I use springed snips everywhere else while my “chikas” are reserved for trim only.

Holding the nug by the stem, if possible, rotate it between your finger and thumb as you scissor away sugar leaf and any other undesirable plant material. The tip of your scissors should point away from the bud so that you are trimming with the back of the curve. Avoid jamming the scissors into the flower in an attempt to dig out unwanted leaves. This can cause your nug to break, leaving you with smaller chunks to admire and lovingly photograph.

From here, I am a little hazy on the drying and curing process but I believe there are bags and burping and, honestly, there are some really great articles out there already about how to do all that. Maybe I will even research and write one for you myself. I know that with proper tools and through refining our approach, we took a team of four from a paltry nine defoliated plants a day to 35 plants in just four hours. I increased my dry trim production from 257 grams that fourth day to over 300 grams in about an hour and a half.

As a consultant, it is my job to reduce redundancies and increase efficiency. As your personal trim girl, I can tell you the fastest way to get it done is to have all your tools at hand and create a flow so that you don’t have to interrupt your vibe. If you want to get the job done and get it done efficiently, pick up the following: Spring-loaded garden snips Fine garden scissors CLEAR gloves**(Check my note further down about these gloves) 91% isopropyl alcohol Paper towels Waste bin Collection bin Rolling clothes rack Masking tape, sharpie Twine/wire Storage bags/jars Finally, invest in one of those trim trays with a screen and a kief tray below. It’s worth it, trust. If you must hang your plant to defoliate it, a rolling clothes rack is a convenient apparatus for this purpose. It also provides a suitable location for your plucked plant to hang as it dries for trimming. If you have a lot of plant, however, you may need to get more creative with your hanging space. Tightly strung wire is the most common solution I’ve seen.

Keep your tools clean. Honestly, harvest your scissor hash. Everyone keeps telling me to do it and I always get in the zone and forget but, truly, that’s mostly sticky trichomes loaded with cannabinoids and terpenes all tightly packed on your scissors.

Don’t overlook it is all I’m saying.

After that, let your tools soak in isopropryl alcohol and wipe them down each night so that they will serve you better for longer. You can rub a little coconut oil on your snips and scissor to reduce the triche build up but don’t do this if you are working a commercial grow. Coconut oil is a potential allergen and we’re making medicine here.

The note** about clear gloves: go to Walgreens or CVS – or shop lOKal pharmacies if you can – and get the clear, thick gloves they sell. They aren’t as good as black nitrile for heavy garden work but they are BOSS at trim work because they don’t get sticky as fast and your finger hash balls up easier I am told. As the marijuana industry blossoms in Oklahoma, dispensaries aren’t the only way to get your foot in the door. Think about it-who supplies the dispensaries with those pop-top containers of every size? It’s the supply stores...without them, we might still be buying weed in plastic bags. The stores that sell dispensary filling goods are not all as similar to each other as you may think.

Some supply stores only sell certain, more common items, some try to make it seem like they’ve got it all when unfortunately they don’t, and some are pretty great.

In my own personal experience, while working at a dispensary, I noticed that there are a good amount of options for supply stores but some can only talk the talk but can’t walk the walk. As marijuana became an essential business during the lockdown earlier this year, many businesses had to stock up more than they had expected.

Marijuana related companies all over the state have been working nonstop to get people the things that they need. In a brand new industry like Oklahoma’s, it’s important to get in and sow your oats wherever you can. By dipping a toe in each area of an industry, you can have some of the best work-related experiences in the world.

Surprisingly, if you’re looking to be in the marijuana industry right now, Oklahoma is the place to be. Our little two years of legal medical marijuana has made us a hub of opportunity and has created a large group of similarly minded people having a great time coming to work everyday. Having worked in different industries, the marijuana industry is by far the friendliest and most exciting one I’ve worked in.

One of the many supply stores around Oklahoma is the Bando Supply Company in Oklahoma City. This month, I had the distinct pleasure of getting a tour of their new facilities and had the opportunity to speak with their owners. When I called to see when we could get together, I was able to speak with the lovely Gabriella D’Amato who explained to me that Bando is a young company (they actually celebrated their first anniversary in August) that is trying to make the interaction between supply store and dispensary as smooth and as friendly as can be.

containers for your dispensary should not have to be a hassle. As I said before, when I worked in a dispensary, our supplier’s packaging sometimes did not make it past the aesthetic test let alone the functionality test. It was definitely exciting to see a place that ran well in both categories.

Right as I walked in, I was greeted with smiles and friendly faces. The storefront was nicely put together with a modern style and shelves full of their products. The store was clean and the vibe felt comfortable from the start. Once I got to see the front area, I was given a look at the back where the real business happens; it was adorned with notes, a few computers, NOMADIC

and extra stock in case of an extra large order. I could tell they spent a lot of time brainstorming over what is best for their business.

Owner Jordan Seldon has been in the marijuana business for over 10 years; he and his co-owner, Steven Ward, are both from Denver, Colorado. They hope to ultimately make Bando known for having a light-hearted but professional vibe throughout the company, all while making a positive impact on local stores around Oklahoma.

They are a company focused on networking and supplying businesses with creative paraphernalia. In fact, their name is even meant to be a slight pun on the legality of what used to be considered a hard drug. A bando is slang and can be defined as an abandoned house that, in some areas, is used to sell illegal drugs out of. You can hear the word used in some popular rap songs like some tracks from artists like Migos and A Boogie wit da Hoodie.

Now that marijuana is medically legal and places like Bando can sell to other businesses to aid them in selling marijuana, it’s weird to think about how not long ago this would have been completely outlandish. If you told me that Oklahoma would legalize medical marijuana and what we produced would actually be worth something back in 2016, I would not have believed you. The progress so far has been great and is why we have quality supply stores as such Bando Supply.

As I spoke to Seldon and Ward about how Bando Supply is meant to be a friendly way to start networking as well as dispensary supplies, they explained to me that they are open to sharing all their knowledge and plan to continue making a conscious effort to make the vibes you get from them fantastic. I asked them about their decision to move to Oklahoma when they already were in an area with recreational and medical marijuana. They explained that since Oklahoma has such a new market, they would be able to “catch the hustle” and make a bigger impact out here than in Colorado. With all of their accumulated knowledge that they have picked up over the years, they hope to share it among the industry of Oklahoma. Since they have been called the top supply store in the state, I am sure they could make a huge impact on the

On top of being one of Oklahoma’s top supply stores, Bando is trying to branch into custom packaging and more of a retail side to the company, like glass pieces and other paraphernalia as well. They have had consistent growth with Bando, over 10% each month. They even agreed that Covid-19 didn’t affect their business too much at all (other than some safety precautions). They sell a staggering amount of pop-top containers, but one of their more unique containers was the wooden topped concentrate jars. They caught my eye almost as soon as I walked in the door.

They also have this perfect bag for keeping your stash safe and away from children. The bag itself is odor proof, already a plus, and it has a numerical lock on the zipper. They have a diverse selection of child-proof supplies, but this one was the coolest looking childproof bag I have ever seen; it also has a slick Bando Supply logo embroidered on the front.

Looking through what they offer, I can safely say that their diverse stock is of premium quality and when they say child-proof, they mean it! Bando is also selling processing supplies soon, so in case something is to break on some equipment, you don’t need to hinder the process for too long as they can do same day delivery. It’s their purpose to become the company to go to when you need something quality in a moment's notice.

After the three of us spoke some more, we got to another couple of their future ideas.

Behind the store, they have a large area full of untapped potential. The backyard looked to be a perfect place for marijuana festivals and events; and it would only be accessible through the Bando store. The speakeasy style made the idea even cooler.

Seldon also showed off some products from 50 Below Labs, another venture that he is a part of. The packaging they had on and they said it was great fun, but it was the hottest day of the year. that once Bando is able to do custom packaging, it’s going to look really, really good. The flavor the cart had was light, smooth, and tasty; if you see one in any of your favorite dispensaries, be sure to pick one up, I definitely recommend them!

The tour was overall a really nice experience, and I was impressed by how relaxed, yet fast-paced their work environment seemed to be. Both of the owners mentioned that they spend a large amount of their time in the office. Each agreed that they loved what they did, so the amount of hours didn’t feel as bad as it sounded. From speaking with them, I could tell that they really took pride in their business. When you love what you do, and have the opportunity to jump into an industry you can be passionate about, you truly never work a day in your life. The company as a whole was amazing. Their stock was impressive and unique while providing an open and friendly environment.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and I know I’m not alone in that. From the spooky movies and borderline-nauseainducing creepy treats to costumes and passing out candy, I’m a big fan of the night of fright. It’s good fun for all ages, and honestly, I can’t wait for my nephew to be old enough to really enjoy trick-or-treating.

In the meantime, we’re unfortunately faced with the realities of limited gatherings, distancing, and historical event after historical event that have been plaguing us all throughout 2020. Many towns across the U.S. have chosen to forego the traditional night of trick-or-treating, and in towns that are moving forward with it, many parents have made the choice to keep their children home for other activities instead.

Even for those without little goblins and ghouls at home, Halloween 2020 may be different, with fewer businesses able to host events or haunted houses as they have in years past. There’s no getting past it: it’s a bummer, like most of 2020 has been.

While passing around a pumpkin bong or joint wrapped in candy corn paper at a party with your friends may not be the safest idea this year, most of us have spent more of this year at home than we have in quite some time, and that means we’ve started to get really good at figure out how to keep ourselves entertained. From Netflix or Hulu binge-fests to baking endless loaves of sourdough, quarantine or stay-home activities have become a part of life. We’ve figured out how to do weddings and birthdays from home, we can figure out Halloween too.

Fortunately for you, we’ve gathered a wide range of ideas for you to try out, including a few spooky treat suggestions (to go with the deliciousness Chef Buz has waiting for you this month), film and show suggestions, alternatives to some of the popular traditions, even a few ideas on how you can spread some cannabis goodwill this Halloween to your fellow patients.

Not much is ‘the same’ this year, but if nothing else, we’ve become masters of the art of ‘adapt and overcome’. So chin up and light up, folks! It’s almost Halloween!

Tricky Treats While Chef Buz’s recipe is undeniably tempting (who doesn’t love jalapenos?), the snack suggestions we’ve gathered below lean more sweet than savory, and if you’re planning any kind of Hallow-feast for your at-home horror fest or small gathering, they’re must-haves for your Halloween table.

One of the best parts of fall is the onslaught of caramel. Seriously. Caramel is always a popular flavor, but it seems to just be everywhere in the fall, almost as much as pumpkin spice. One of the most traditional fall treats is the caramel apple, and it’s also one of the simplest to make yourself, if you’re game. You can either make your own caramel, or buy it from the store, even in pre-portioned sheets that you simply wrap around the apple and heat gently. If you’re lucky enough to live near any kind of chocolate or candy store, you may even be able to find ones made fresh, with all kinds of wild toppings. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to try your hand at them at home, branch out and try crushing up different nuts or your favorite candy bar to roll your apples in.

Bonus points if you use the mini Halloween candy bars, since you don’t need a ton to pass out this year. (Humor is supposed to help, is it working yet?)

Another classic Halloween-time favorite is the popcorn ball, thanks to its marshmallowy, salty-and-sweet goodness that is hard to beat. A distant relation to the rice krispies treat, popcorn balls are quick to make if you have marshmallows, butter, and popcorn on hand. If you’re feeling festive, a little orange food coloring (and a bit colored with green, if you’re feeling extra creative), and you’ve got popcorn pumpkins to munch on when your edible finally kicks in. If you’re so inclined, try making a medicated batch to enjoy, just make sure they’re properly labeled so no little monsters get their hands on them.

For a cute treat that’s perfect to pair with a caramel apple to give away to friends and family, take strawberries, dip them in melted white chocolate, and use mini chocolate-chips for the eyes and mouth of a ghost. Not only are they 1. A delicious chocolate covered strawberry, but 2.,

They’re unbelievably adorable, too. They’re super simple, and if you’re only making treats for yourself, feel free to use your chocolate of choice. If you’re looking to add another dose of medication to your snack table, add a bit of medicated butter to the chocolate as you melt it.

Whatever you include in your Halloween snackbarrage, if you're medicating before you munch or while you snack with an edible, don't forget to hydrate! Nothing spoils a snack like a bad case of cotton mouth, and while you won't wake up November 1st feeling hungover, being dehydrated can still leave you feeling crummy!

Wicked Watches While scary movies can be enjoyable year round for some, watching them on Halloween especially, or only on Halloween, has become a tradition for many long before the pandemic rolled around. Now, with many planning to stay in for the night, it’s a bigger trend than ever. Scary movies range from thrilling to downright gruesome, and in recent years, many shows have taken up the mantle, with shows like American Horror Story becoming exceedingly popular for its goosebumpinducing seasons.

Whatever your preferences are when it comes to scares, there’s something out there for you to enjoy this Halloween, and we’ve gathered a few of our favorite suggestions, everything from classic films to newer series and movies. A few of these require Netflix or Hulu to enjoy, but others you can find on Amazon to rent or buy! No matter what you watch, there’s no better time to indulge in that edible or hit that dab rig than right before you sink into a movie, even a scary one. Most of the films and series below are perfect for those couch-locked binges, with more than one movie or season to go through.

"TWIST ONE UP AND LET’S GET COOKING" Good day, and welcome back my cannachefs. I don't know about you but I'm super excited for these next few months starting with October; the weather is cooler, leaves are changing, and Halloween parties! I don't do much adulting but when I do, I like to make sure there's some partying involved. So after the kids get their treats it’s time for the adults to have some fun and treats too.

This year for Halloween I’m doing my Spooky Spider Pretzel Bowl and Poppin’ Jalapeno Dip recipes, these infused spidey pretzel bowls will go great at your party. Not only will it be packed full of jalapeno dip, but it will also be packed with your favorite herb to add to your holiday vibe. Don’t be afraid to try some of your other favorite dips too, inspired by my dad’s jalapeno ranch dressing. So let’s get this party started, grab a bag of your favorite herbs, twist one up and let’s get Cooking with a Buz!

INGREDIENTS

POPPIN JALAPENO DIP ’

1 C Mayo 1 C Sour Cream ¼ Cup Buttermilk 4 cloves garlic, minced 7-10 Jalapenos, seeded and minced in food processor 2 Carrots, peeled and shredded 2 Tablespoons of dill 1 Tablespoon White Wine Vinegar 1 Tablespoon of squeezed Lemon Juice 1 C shredded Cheddar Cheese Pinch of Salt, to taste ½ teaspoon Black pepper

1 Egg, beaten 5 ½ teaspoons Active Dry Yeast 5 ½ Cups All Purpose Flour ¾ Cups Baking Soda ½ Cup packed Brown Sugar ⅓ Cup melted Cannabutter 2 Cups Warm Water OKLAHOMA CHRONIC

DIRECTIONS

POPPIN JALAPENO DIP '

Mix all ingredients, except the buttermilk and cheese, together in a bowl. Once wellmixed, taste and adjust salt then add buttermilk and mix then add the shredded cheese, cover, and refrigerate until serving.

SPOOKY SPIDER PRETZEL BOWL The first thing you'll want to do is to put the warm water into the mixing bowl and add the yeast, brown sugar, and the melted cannabutter. Allow this to sit in the mixing bowl for about 3-4 minutes, this will activate your yeast.

Next, add the flour and attach the dough hook attachment and mix for around 3 minutes. You're wanting the dough to be elastic and still have a slight stickiness to it, but also be smooth. If the dough is too sticky you can always add a little more flour to it, start with 1-2 tablespoons, and mix again then check. Once the dough is the right consistency, cover it with your kitchen towel and wait for it to rise (this is a good time to take a dab and clean up your area).You're wanting the dough to about double in size, which usually takes about an hour.

After the dough is proofed, you can start to separate the dough into four equal balls and place them on a baking sheet. Next, take one of the balls and split it in half and roll those into balls, and put them aside.

Now we will start making the legs. Take one of the smaller dough balls and split it into half, and begin to roll it into 6-8 inch ropes, you will need to make 8 of these so you will need to split up another large dough ball into legs, put them aside on a parchmentlined baking sheet and let them rest for about 25 minutes. You should be left with 2 large balls, a small dough ball and 8 legs.

In a large pot, boil about 10 cups of water and then add your baking soda and bring back to a boil. Note: it would be a good time to preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Now you will add one dough ball to the boiling water at a time and boil for 30 seconds per side, a slotted spoon works best for flipping.

Do the same with the legs, in a “U” shape, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Once they are all boiled, take the smaller ball and place it against one of the larger ones on a parchment-lined baking sheet, This will be the head and body for the spider, then brush the tops with some egg wash and score the two large bowls with a knife, just make an “X” on the top.

This is also the time to sprinkle some salt on top, if you want to add salt after baking you will need to brush them with butter before adding the salt.

Bake for about 20 minutes, you're looking for a dark brown color, the legs won't take as long as the bread bowl itself so keep an eye on them.

Allow it to cool and cut the top off and hollow out the spider body and you can attach the legs with toothpicks, the other bowl you can chop up into finger-sized pieces to dunk with.

TRANS-NEROLIDOL This month we are going to explore the dense and woody terpene trans-nerolidol.

This one is a secondary terpene found mostly in flowers like rose, jasmine, lemongrass, and tea tree oil. Most popular are the ginger and neroli essential oils in which trans-nerolidol is found. The smell of trans-nerolidol reminds me of a mixture between flowers, lemon, and earthy aromas which and can be described in cannabis as woody, citrus and floral.

The trans-nerolidol terpene has been known to be beneficial in combating pests that harm humans and plants. Nerolidol has, in some cases, been effective at warding off head lice, spider mites,

parasites, and certain bacteria, and fungi, in addition to exhibiting a range of other potential benefits as a scent compound and a naturally occurring component of cannabis.

Trans-nerolidol was investigated for its ability to enhance bacterial permeability and susceptibility to exogenous antimicrobial compounds. That particular study shows that the introduction of “trans-nerolidol actually sensitizes infectious bacteria such as

So who’s open? Things seem to be getting back to as normal as they’re going to be (if I hear one more person call our current way of life “The New Normal” one more time, I’m gonna scream louder than a giant cicada buzzing in a tree in the middle of rural Oklahoma on a 95-degree day), so what are some places that have re-opened to full service?

I, myself, will admit I’m phenomenally too paranoid about COVID-19 to go out to a bar right now. That being said, it seems there are several places that are taking proper precautions as they re-open to keep patrons as safe as they can.

Guyute’s

Modern restaurant/bar 730 NW 23rd Oklahoma City In recent years, there’s a fairly distinctive line that seems to have been drawn between stoner culture and so-called “hippie culture” (I feel like leftist, environmentally-affectionate but ultimately conservative old person in Birkenstock’s is a more apt description).

My late stepmom was a fantastic woman, but certainly embodied the environmentalist liberal who still supported cannabis prohibition. When she became very sick with cancer, I did everything but plead with my father to let me go through my black market sources to supply them with marijuana extracts or edibles. He stuck to his stance that they refused to do anything illegal, and that she was already taking Marinol, a pharmaceutical product that is a synthetic form of THC. This rant serves to illustrate a simple point: just because someone’s favorite ice cream brand is Ben & Jerry’s, and they dig old Dead albums, does not at all mean that they oppose marijuana prohibition or are comfortable with it being used in public. Hideaway Pizza might have a joint in their logo (depends on who you ask) but I’d bet their owners aren’t crazy about marijuana usage, especially at their restaurants. Unfortunately, despite their freewheeling hippie image, it seems that Guyute’s owners have chosen to prioritize the wants of their prohibition-favoring customers over cannabis smokers.

I love the food here; when I brought up I was going by Guyute’s after scooping some hash rosin from my work, my coworkers started excitedly gushing about their favorite menu items. And I’ll admit: these guys have been killing it with great delivery and to-go service during the quarantine. If I remember correctly, for a time they were offering delivery where 100% of the delivery fee went to the staff member delivering the food (believe me, this is very uncommon; no Papa John’s or Domino’s delivery driver has ever received a penny of those delivery fees.)

Known for their large rooftop patio, it’s always been a favorite place of mine to go and have a beer and a good conversation when the weather allows. It was one of the first places I put on my list to check out for this very reason.

A patio like that was made for smoking a fat joint and watching the sun set.

There’s Oklahoma license plates behind the bar that show 420 on them, several of the menu items allude to marijuana, drugs, or hippie culture, and upon walking in I immediately noticed several patients I’ve seen at the dispensary I work at. For Pete’s sake, the entire vibe of the decoration in the bathrooms, and most of the restaurant, is based on the secondmost famous jam band in history: Phish. So one would assume this is exactly the kind of place where one could light up and not worry, and yet this was not so, at least for me.

Halfway through my joint, the bartender working came over and asked “Oh hey, is that weed?” As cigarette smoke from several tables wafted over us, I responded “yes.” He told me the owners are against it, as apparently some dinner patrons had complained about it in the past. Yet couldn't it be argued that marijuana smoke is not as offensive to the senses or health as cigarette smoke? A patron sitting next to me, who was smoking his second or third cigarette since I’d arrived, was taken aback at the gall I had to “not ask (him) if it was okay.” But I certainly don’t recall him ever asking if it was fine for him to smoke his cancer-causing cigarette next to me.

Scientific evidence has shown secondhand cigarette smoke can cause cancer and other health issues; what of secondhand cannabis smoke? There’s very little evidence one can even get high off of secondhand cannabis smoke, much less have their health harmed. I can only see objecting to smoking cannabis while allowing cigarette smoking as prejudice, pure and simple.

I can’t help but wonder if it was how obvious I was being about smoking my joint—and the fact that I did it while sitting at the bar on the rooftop and not a table—that caused the bartender to ask me to put it out. I’d heard several rumors before I went, and have heard several since I originally wrote this piece, that you won’t be bothered if you smoke cannabis at a table closer to the edge of the patio. But this brings me back to a point I come back to again and again: why should public cannabis smoking be regulated differently than public tobacco smoking? Other than a law recently put on the books prohibiting cannabis usage inside of bars (shout-outs to Lumpy’s on 122nd and 51st St Speakeasy), it’s regulated exactly like tobacco when used in public. And no hard evidence has ever been uncovered showing one can fail a drug test from secondhand cannabis smoke in a well-ventilated or open area, so that throws out that argument. So what’s left to object to? The smell? The people doing it? Or maybe it’s just the stigma that comes along with cannabis that, with a lot of work and a bit of time, can perhaps eventually be broken.

Remember that time Braum’s wanted to destroy Classen Circle? What the hell was that all about, anyways? And what the hell is wrong with that guy who owns the plot where Horn’s Seed Company used to be off of Northwest Expressway in Belle Isle? That place has been empty since before I even knew what marijuana was.

As any rational early twentysomething does, I spent a lot of nights approximately ten years ago bouncing from bar to bar with my friends. Classen Circle was one of the best places for this, as you could hop freely from Edna’s, to the Drunken Fry, and then over to the Hi-Lo. For some reason, the Fry was always sort of a “pass-through” spot for my friends and I; I don’t recall having many drinks there, and I hadn’t ever actually eaten their fries (or that famous Dr. Pepper ketchup) until fairly recently, in the BC times (Before COVID, duh). Now, rumor has it that—at the time of this writing—they’re preparing to re-open, and should be by the time you’re reading this!

After visiting Guyute’s for my review that same night, I wanted to go somewhere that, no matter what, I wouldn't be be a sore thumb or judged as a degenerate. The Fry, much like it’s former neighbor The Hi-Lo, has long had a reputation for being a safe haven for punks and freaks and everything in between. It was for this reason (and because French Fries are delicious) that I ambled on down.

Having never tried their dips before, I went for a trifecta: Fancy Sauce, Doctor’s Order’s, and a Truffle and Mushroom Mayo. All delicious, all enjoyed in a non-pretentious atmosphere.

Several folks were gathered in The Fry’s relatively new show space, congregated near an open garage door that allowed them to smoke while staying out of the fierce Oklahoma wind gusts.

Despite all that smoking, I was advised by a friend it would be best to smoke my cannabis on the outdoor patio. The wind made it a bit frustrating to light my joint, but thankfully it wasn’t too cold on this March night.

Looking back, I probably could have lit up next to the tobacco smokers inside. But I was tired of confrontation already from Guyute’s, and I know now that that is technically against the law as well.

Despite that, I’d say my experience at The Drunken Fry was definitely positive, and would recommend it to any MMJ patient looking for a fun night out.

Paula White is one such Oklahoman. A resident of eastern Oklahoma in the Lake Tenkiller region, White has suffered from migraines since her teens and like many of us, her earlier experiences with cannabis were more of the recreational variety.

“I consumed cannabis recreationally when I was a young adult, but then I chose to abstain from it for many years,” White stated. “About ten years ago, I began to read positive things regarding medical cannabis and migraine headaches, something I’ve had to deal with since I was sixteen.”

After those positive reports of the effects of cannabis on migraines began to cross her path, White decided to give cannabis another try

in a different way than she had when she was younger, andshe said the effects were almost immediate, and absolutely incredible.

“I tried cannabis again, but this time as medicine to treat my migraines...and this was a lifechanging choice for me. My headaches were greatly reduced in both occurrence and severity right away after I began trying it medicinally.”

A noticeable reduction in the frequency and severity of her migraines was just the beginning for White, however. “In addition to the problems I’ve had with migraines, I was also severely overweight. As soon as I began to introduce cannabinoids into my body, the weight began to fall off. I’ve experienced a complete metabolic reset, lost almost 100 pounds, and I’ve kept it off now for almost five years.”

later on in life especially. For many cannabis patients, the plant has been a key part of overhauling all aspects of their health, their weight included, despite the negative propaganda regarding cannabis that many were pushed into believing at one point or another.

White, a staunch advocate for the health benefits of cannabis, has long kept an open mind towards cannabis, but admits that her parents were decidedly against it, something most patients can relate to. With the incredible changes she’s been able to make to her health and her life thanks to cannabis, White has found more of her family and friends support her bud-based journey, and has even helped guide them along their own.

“Mostly, my friends and family are very supportive of me. They have witnessed my health journey for themselves, and sense the passion I have for cannabis. They also rely on me now for tips on making edibles or tinctures, and for information regarding cultivars and dosing. I’ve been open with them about it, and it’s been really something.”

In addition to her passion for the plant, White has also taken steps to help push it forward in one of our neighboring states. “I co-sponsored the Arkansas Medical Cannabis Act, and devoted the better part of five years to that campaign. During that time, I spoke with so many patients who were suffering (and some dying) while waiting for legal access to this natural medicine. Those people and their stories touched me deeply, and are the driving force in my advocating for medical cannabis. Having played a part in bringing medical cannabis to the patients in my home state definitely changed my life.”

Now, White keeps busy with advocacy, her work as a consultant in the industry, and tending to the commercial grow she started with her partner. “We have a commercial cultivation operation, Humbling River Farms, which we started in July 2019. I’m really partial to our Bubblegum strain, that’s probably my favorite." For her, growing cannabis is much more than just her job.

"I love digging in the dirt. It is so therapeutic for me. I'm a nurturer at heart, and I treat each of my girls special. We touch each plant every day.

That is one of the many benefits of keeping our farm small and manageable. Love grow great cannabis."

Despite the still-lingering pushback against the state bill, White said she’s pretty pleased with Oklahoma’s progress so far. “It’s going to take a few years to really dial in the program. I am happy with the progress of things, and look forward to watching it evolve. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before Oklahoma welcomes an adult-use program.”

continues to get done and the industry takes care of its workers. “You know, I made my first legal purchase in Colorado in 2015, three years before 788 passed here, and I was overwhelmed. There were so many options, and I didn’t know what I wanted or needed or how to ask for it. That led me to have a deep appreciation for the budtender position. Really, budtenders are underappreciated and underpaid. They are the foundation of the dispensary, and the link between the patients and their medicine, especially in a new market.”

Despite the obvious love White has for cannabis and the cannabis industry, she also didn’t hesitate to point out one of the community’s weak point that would actually be surprisingly simple to overcome. “I think there’s a general lack of cannabis education that’s available to the patients of Oklahoma, I think that we could improve there and help spread more knowledge out to patients to help them find what they need.”

For the new patients just picking up their cards for the first time and preparing for their first trip to a dispensary, White’s advice is simple. “I suggest that they find someone to chat with who has some experience with medical cannabis. It is wonderful to have someone with a little experience accompany you to the dispensary, or help you hone in on proper dosing or ingestion methods. Most importantly, just take it slow.”

Back at it again and Fall is thick in the air, the changing seasons always put me in the mood to try something new. I’m always asked about cartridges, What’s the best? Which is my favorite?

Now, I will admit, I am not a big cart smoker. However, I try to keep up. Since before I even had my Medical Card I can remember seeing a hearing about Mammoth Carts, In a fashion as grand as their colossal namesake. WHY SHOULD WE CLEAN OUR PIPES? BY

As unfair as it may seem, everything gets dirty.

Everything.

Even things that just sit around on shelves that nobody has touched in ages; they’re covered in dust. Imagine how dirty something that’s being used everyday is!

Yep, I’m looking at your pipe, bong, rig and nectar collector. It’s time to clean them...if you needed a sign, this is it!

No need to be shy or ashamed, I think we all have let the resin build up a little more than we should have. So, to make it easier on you, I can give you some tips and tricks to cleaning out all of your beloved paraphernalia.

Well, I should probably tell you why you should clean out your pieces before I tell you how.

While you shouldn’t be sick or anything if you smoke out of a pipe with a lot of resin in the edges, you can accidentally breathe in a loose piece and lightly choke, and it’s also possible for the percolator, mouth piece, and bowl to become clogged and end up being difficult to smoke from.

On top of that, if your pipe was a lighter color or clear, the colors can look different and possibly be so caked on so that it becomes dark and opaque. Aesthetically, that can’t look too great, but I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but still.

On top of that, all that built-up resin can contain loads of disgusting bacteria; especially if you share your pipes (don’t go around sharing your pipes right now y’all, we are still in a pandemic).

In fact, a study done by High Times found that there can be as much bacteria as a toilet seat on and inside of your pieces. Some of you may be thinking, “... but I can smoke the resin too to add extra THC!” That is generally incorrect. While there may be some left over THC in the resin, the amount is so low that it isn’t even really worth the trouble of scrapping it out. Don’t take the risk of all that bacteria and no concrete promise of THC. The other important, and less gross, reason to clean out all the resin from your pieces is that you won’t be able to fully taste your flower or concentrate. One of the coolest things about the different varieties of marijuana is the flavors you can taste from each strain. The terpene profile in each strain of weed can change the flavor both in smell and taste.

It’s a huge possibility that when your pipe is full of old resin, you won’t get to have the full experience of the strain. Some quick examples of flavor enhancing terpenes are pinene, limonene, and linalool; each has a distinct flavor being pine, lemon, and lavender. Trying out your newly purchased strain that is mainly full of linalool with a heavy lavender-esque flavor then trying one with lots of pinene can ruin the overall taste of the unique strains. Plus, I don’t think you’d like mixing those flavors on their own, so why would you do so in your smoking habits?

To kick off some cleaning suggestions, let’s start off with the most common pieces: bongs and pipes, this will include ones made out of silicone, in case you’re like me and drop things too much.

In order to clean your glass bong and pipe, for the most common way to do it, you will need isopropyl alcohol, table salt and some stamina in your biceps and triceps. Starting with a pipe, grab a sandwich bag, or bigger depending on your pipe size, and fill the bag with some salt and some alcohol. To make the cleaning easiest, it’s best to let it sit for a few minutes before shaking the absolute bejesus out of the bag.

The alcohol around it will begin to turn brown, or even black, and slowly you will be able to see through the piece again. For bongs, all you have to do is pour the salt and alcohol inside it and perform the same steps, just make sure you don’t spill. Actually, if you want to get a little fancy, you can purchase caps to make sure when you shake your bong, you don’t have to get messy (I have always struggled through this process by just using my hands and getting messy).

After your piece is clean, clear, and looking like new, be sure to rinse it thoroughly and let it dry before using it again. You don’t want any residual alcohol to be in it when you light up unless you want to lose some eyebrow hair.

When it comes to cleaning your silicone pieces, do not use alcohol or you run the risk of breaking down the silicone from the inside. For these, it is recommended to use a silicone cleaner like Res Remover or Formula 420,

but you can also use a mild soap and some warm water (both methods also require some stamina in those arm muscles).

However, I have also heard of some pieces being dishwasher safe. While I wrote this, I decided to try it out before raving to you all about it.

I have to say, it worked pretty well for how old my dishwasher is. It still needed a little elbow grease, but it was a simple and fun way to clean out my silicone bong. For a pipe, I’d say just go for the hands on method, as it is possible for the piece to melt slightly.

Cleaning out something meant to be used with concentrates can be a relatively more difficult task as it is way stickier than flower resin. One of the easiest ways I’ve come across for tempered glass pieces is simply using very hot water, nearly boiling. This takes time and lots of care, so you don't burn yourself. I would recommend buying the cap covers for this one.

Another less dangerous option would be to use rock salt and isopropyl alcohol then follow the same steps as the bong and pipe I previously mentioned. If your piece is silicone, by far, the easiest way to clean it out is to freeze it and crunch all the frozen resin out of the rig. Once it is all out, wash it with a mild soap and hot water to get the bacteria out.

It is entirely possible that there are easier or better ways of cleaning out your pieces.

These examples are simply the most common ways of doing so. But remember, it is so important to clean out your pieces even if you’re the only one using them.

“Cleanliness is close to godliness” and a clean pipe is a good pipe!
