OKFB Safety and Special Projects Coordinator Burton Harmon provided a devotional for members Sunday morning before the discussion meet. The discussion meet, a committeestyle discussion, was held for members to improve their ability to ofer constructive input, cooperation and communication while analyzing agricultural problems and developing solutions. The meet served as an introduction to the event and a round of practice before the OKFB Annual Meeting discussion meet to be held Friday, Nov. 11. Five members competed in two, 15-minute rounds before Okmulgee County Farm Bureau member Tim Taylor was named the winner and received a $500 cash prize. Clint Tolle, Grant County Farm Bureau; Autumn Courtney, Mayes County Farm Bureau; Leslie Lewis, Okmulgee County Farm Bureau; and Austin Jackson, Payne County Farm Bureau also participated in the competitive event.
early 60 Farm Bureau members ages 18-35 gathered for the annual Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Summer Conference July 29-31 in Enid. The group toured area agribusinesses, competed in a discussion meet and connected with fellow YF&R members. The weekend kicked of Friday, July 29 with dinner and a tour of Schnaithman Farms near Garber, where the family primarily grows wheat and raises cattle. Members competed in friendly competitions of volleyball and cornhole while making lifelong friends. The frst tour stop on Saturday featured a fertilizer plant specializing in creating ammonia and urea for agricultural uses. Koch Fertilizer of Enid gave members a frst-hand look at how fertilizer is created, handled and shipped on a day-to-day basis. Garber Fire Department hosted lunch for the group. Volunteer frefghter Brady Bond reiterated the importance of serving on a rural department. Bond showcased the equipment used by the freAdepartment.lookintothe grain grown in Garfeld County and the surrounding area was provided by ADM Grain Terminal in Enid. Members visited the grain holding sites where the company accepts wheat, corn, soybeans and other crops.

Garfeld County Farm Bureau member Brady Sidwell shared two value-added agricultural business ventures he started in the Enid area. Chisholm Trail Milling uses stone mills to create four with locally grown wheat and ships the artisan four across the U.S. Another venture of Sidwell’s is Enid Brewing Company and Eatery, producing farmto-table beer with inputs grown around the area along with serving beef raised by RoundingSidwell. out the tour-flled day, members enjoyed the musical talents of Johnny Cooper at Stride Bank Center.

The fundraising event will beneft the OKFB Foundation for Agriculture, which strives to connect consumers of all ages with agriculturists who work daily to produce food and fber. The shotgun shoot is a sporting-claystyle tournament featuring a variety of shooting stations with diverse clay patterns for teams of four shooters. Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. with the competition beginning at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided to all event participants and will be served at 11:30 a.m. Prizes and door prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the event. The top two teams and top individual will be awarded a cashSpaceprize.islimited to 40 teams. The cost to enter a team of four is $375, and an individual entry is $100. The Norman Veterans Home is a longterm care home for veterans with 301 beds. The facility is currently home to 15 World War II veterans and 14 Purple Heart recipients.
klahoma Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee members presented approximately 50 handmade blankets to the Normans Veterans Home on Monday, July 18. The blankets were made by OKFB members as a community service project during the WLC’s annual conference held in April.Candice McIntire, activity director at the Norman Veterans Home, said the blankets are an invaluable resource for the veterans at the facility. “Several of our veterans – as they get older – they get cold,” McIntire said. “They will be used to keep them warm. Even in the summer heat we are experiencing, they are cold, so the blankets will be used to put over their laps or over their wheelchairs. “It will mean a lot to our veterans.”

All 77 counties in the state are facing varying levels of drought, increasing the chances for wildfres to spark and calling local fre departments into action.

The OKFB Fire Department Matching Program will match county Farm Bureaus’ donations to one or multiple fre departments. OKFB, the foundation and insurance company will match total donations made by a county up to $450. Counties interested in participating in the program must fll out the form on the OKFB website to receive matching funds. Counties will not obtain the matching funds until OKFB Foundation for Agriculture Director Holly Carroll receives the form.
