verall it was a great week around the Lake Okeechobee area. We have received copious amounts of rain and had several wicked storms. Bass fishing was off slightly a couple of days but rebounded quickly. The water has risen and some of the bass are pushing further back into the marsh.

We have had a lot of wind from the west and even the north recently and it has pushed some of the bait out of the grass and into the lake.

Spinnerbaits, Gambler big easy’s, skinny dippers, flukes and flipping-style creature baits are all working.

If your olfactory senses are finely tuned you may be able to find areas of bedding blue gill and shell cracker. Some of the bedding areas are well offshore, but still in some very shallow water. Blue gill were all around these bedding areas this week. We had great success catching shell cracker in an area that was in the wide open lake and the only thing present on the bottom was newly emergent eel grass and hydrilla. Worms are the go-to bait for shell cracker while crickets will sometimes outperform other baits with bluegill.

Safety should be the number one thought on every boaters mind when launching your boat.

There have been several fatalities in the area in the last month. These tragic events change lives forever. Please wear your life jackets, observe no-wake zones, slow down a little bit and enjoy the day. Look out for the other guy!
