he moon is full this week, and the pan fish bite should be incredible.

Blue gill and shell cracker are on or around bedding areas and can be caught in great numbers once located. The biggest problem will be locating them, with the extreme low water the fish are fanning beds way out in the lake.

Many air-boaters are locating the beds and then getting out of the boat and wading. Let me just add that with the water very low, all of the alligators are forced to the outside edges of the lake too. If you choose to wade, keep a sharp eye out for the gators; we have had them come very close to our boat while we are fishing lately, and I know they would not hesitate to approach a person in the water.

Grass shrimp, crickets and red worms are the baits of choice. In addition to the numbers of fish in the lake, the local canals are loaded with spawning fish, too. Bass fishing just continues to be incredible, with 100-fish days on artificial baits being very possible. Scott Driver ramp still has enough water to launch and the River is loaded with bass of all sizes. Crank baits, top water baits and Carolina rigs will all produce fish. I don’t usually get excited about new baits on the market, but Okeechobee Fishing Headquarters is now handling coppers baits, some of the most realistic baits I have ever seen — and they work!
