lue Gill fishing is catching fire around the lake, as we move closer to the full moon the catch rates have raised each day. As the full moon approaches pan fish will move into the areas where they will spawn. With the water nearly two feet deeper than at this time last year it is much more difficult to visibly see the fish. The east side of the lake around J&S on the lake side, and in the canal will provide fast action. Grassy Island, Kings Bar and the Buckhead Ridge area are all proven areas for spawning blue gill and shell cracker. There is a large amount of offshore cover where many of the fish will spawn, and much of it is well away from any visible cover areas. In areas with ultra-clear visibility the beds will appear as very light colored spots on

the lake bottom. A bream buster pole is the more efficient method to catch fish quickly, but blind casting with an ultra-light spinning rig may be necessary to locate concentrations of fish. The primary baits for blue gill are crickets and grass shrimp. Shell cracker will eat red worms, crickets and grass shrimp. In any pan fishing situation grass shrimp are the premier bait.

There is not a fish in the lake that will not eat a grass shrimp.

Many times grass shrimp are very difficult to acquire and can be difficult to keep alive, unless you are properly equipped. Crickets and red worms can be bought at any tackle store and will provide action for you.
