CAPTAIN MIKE SHELLEN www.OkeechobeeBassFishing.com 863-357-0892 Bass fishing is steady as she goes, with great catches of bass being reported daily, particularly by anglers using wild golden shiners. Daily catch rates are very consistent with 35 to 50 bass being caught per trip. The catch rate is subject to the weather but overall is very consistent. Artificial bait anglers are still finding success using spinner baits, lipless cranks and soft plastics, the larger fish are being taken by anglers using a flipping techniques with either a jig or a craw imitating bait. Soft plastic swim baits such as the skinny dipper or gambler big easy are taking fair numbers of school size fish for anglers using a chunk and wind presentation in the scattered marsh cover.

Speck anglers are becoming more plentiful each week as the cooler weather and water conditions have cooled the temps in the lake by 8 degrees. Anglers are catching specks both in the grass and out further in the lake in open water. The mouth of the Kissimmee River is a favorite place for nighttimes anglers to catch limits of fish.

Government cut and Taylor creek are offering good catch rates as well. There have been as many as 40 boats in an flotilla outside of the mouth of the river as far in the lake as 1/2 mile, they are catching them on minnows and jigs.

ART FEST ANNOUNCEMENT: 2014 Top of the Lake Art Fest call to artists! Entry forms for artists are now available online at www.okeechobeemainstreet.org as well as the Main Street office at 55 S. Parrott Ave. There are four divisions: Juried and Non Juried Booth fine and artisan artists, Chalk Walk (street painting) artists, local adult Gallery artists, and student artists. There are deadlines for all entries. The Top of the Lake Art Fest is February 8-9, 2014.

Main Street is busy preparing for the Top of the Lake Christmas Festival. Snow falls in Okeechobee on Friday December 6 while a holiday animated movie plays and Santa gets wishes whispered and photos. The Friday “Holiday Evening in the Park” is from 6 PM - 9 PM. Saturday December 7 the traditional festivities take place with music, gift items, activities and the lighted parade beginning at 6 PM. Saturday’s festivities begin at 10 AM and continue till after the parade. Santa will be available for photos opportunities again Saturday evening after the parade.

Main Street and 1 Stop Party Shop are partnering to bring Christmas Trees to Okeechobee! Trees are here!

Wednesday November 27 - December 22 trees will be available. The tree lot is located next to the 1 Stop Party Shop at 319 SW Park St. The operating hours are 7 days a week from 9 AM - 8 PM each day. Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee is partnering once again with WSTU-AM/WPSL-AM radio on our fifth annual Anti-Tobacco PSA Contests. There will be both a radio and a video category. This year, the contest is again being judged by members of the Orlando Magic Broadcast team. The entry deadline is February 14, 2014. Winners will be announced live on the air during the Coaches Corner show on March 18, 2014. The radio winners will air for an entire year on WSTU and WPSL. Special Note for the parade: All entries will be receiving a Parade Permit in the mail from Main Street. Once the participants are all accounted for the parade vehicle will then be moved to the line up area on 4th St (U-Save). 4th St and surrounding streets will be blocked off promptly at 5 PM. No through traffic will be allowed in the line up area. At the end of the parade no drop offs will be allowed by Country Cooler, Morgan’s , etc. All parade participants must be taken back to a staging area designated by the entry coordinator for drop off.
