Dental Office Administrative Assistant Certificate

The Dental Office Administrative Assistant Certificate program is an introduction to the basic skills necessary for employment as a Dental Office Administrative Assistant, including front-desk skills. Students will receive an introduction to dentistry and routine dental procedures, and learn maintenance of patient records, insurance forms, appointment control and record keeping within a computerized environment. Emphasis is on effective verbal and written communication and professionalism in the dental office.

Gastroenterology Nursing Certificate

The Gastroenterology Nursing Certificate is designed for those who already hold an RN or LPN practising licence and provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills for entry into endoscopic nursing. This program includes theory, demonstrations and practical skill training in endoscopic work areas. Topics include anatomy and physiology, pre- and post-nursing care for gastroenterology procedures performed in the ambulatory care setting, and the handling and care of scopes and accessories.

LPN Orthopaedic Certificate

The LPN Orthopaedic Certificate program is designed for those who already hold an LPN practising licence. The program will prepare learners with the advanced knowledge and skills for an orthopaedic career working directly with nurse practitioners and medical practitioners. Learners will further their training of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology in relation to orthopaedics in acute, trauma and post-surgical settings.

Work integrated learning: 260-hour supervised practicum at approved locations.

Employment opportunities: Graduates are prepared for employment in hospitals, emergency departments, cast rooms, medical offices, orthopaedic patient-care areas, care facilities, health authorities and health service agencies. okanagan.bc.ca/lpnorthopaedic
