Story of My Home

CLODAGH MCKENNA

The chef and food writer on customised caffeine hits, morning meditation and woodland wandering

Way to Wake Up: I start every day with a 10-minute meditation, which I do sitting upright in bed. It calms my mind so that I can be more creative.

Breakfast: I have a pint of green juice every morning for breakfast, with celery, spinach, ginger, pineapple, cucumber, banana and live yoghurt. It sets me up for the day.

Caffeine Hit: I love coffee, and I am a bit of a coffee snob. I have a barista machine in my kitchen, and I use my own beans that I have had blended specifically to my taste.

Spot to Relax: In the woods at our farm in the country; being amongst the trees makes me feel very grounded.

Work Space: In London I work from my study, which is very calm and quiet. But mostly I am in my happiest of places, the kitchen.

Dinner Party Game: We play Desert Island Discs, where each guest picks their favourite song and introduces it with a story.

Way to Greet Guests: A big hug!

6pm Cocktail: Oh, that’s early! Mine is a Margarita or a vodka soda with lots of fresh lime.

Nightcap: Chamomile tea.

Night in Alone: Pottering around the house with a glass of red wine, and the music on, dreaming of how I can improve rooms.

Night-Time Routine: Bath at 6pm, then a cocktail in my PJs. Supper and chats with my husband and into bed listening to a podcast or a sleep story. I go to bed early, usually lights out at 9pm.

Binge-Watch TV Series: Succession.

Scent: Santa Maria Novella.

Welcome Home: My husband and doggies, that’s all I need.

Dance-Around-the-Kitchen Song: ' Purple Rain' by Prince.

On your Nightstand: Wisteria pillow spray, lip balm, and my notebook.

Colour Palette: Greens, mustards, and liquorice.
