INGRIEDIENTS 2 pounds ground beef 1 egg, beaten 3/4 cup dry bread crumbs

GREEN MOUNTAIN COFFEE $1 A CUP!

Cook: 10 Min.

3 tablespoons evaporated milk 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

2 cloves garlic, minced

DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat grill for high heat.

2. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, evaporated milk, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, and garlic using your hands. Form the mixture into 8 hamburger patties.

3. Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill patties 5 minutes per side, or until well done.

Tip: Aluminum foil can be used to keep food moist, cook it evenly, and make clean-up easier.

He lived the last 46 of his life in Cape May County, NJ. He was well known in the community for his friendly nature, his poetry and his eccentric personality, and was even appointed Cape May Poet Laureate and International Ambassador in 1999 by Mayor R.W. Elwell.

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill, or preheat a gas grill to medium-high.

If using the basting sauce, in a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin and sugar over medium-low heat and cook, stirring, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the liquid just begins to turn syrupy, 5 to 8 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside in a small bowl.

Thread the chicken pieces alternately with the onion pieces onto the skewers. Brush the chicken and onion pieces lightly on all sides with the oil.

The grilling goes quickly, so set up your workstation next to the

grill before you begin: the plate holding the skewers, the bowl of sauce and a basting brush and/ or the salt, and tongs for turning the skewers. If using the basting sauce, either dip each skewer in the sauce or brush the sauce on the skewers and then place directly over the heat. Grill the skewers, turning 3 or 4 times and basting with additional sauce, until the chicken is cooked through and the onions are scorched around the edges, about 5 minutes total.

Sprinkle both sides of each skewer with salt and remove from the grill.

Serve the skewers piping hot.

The magnificent Cape May tradition continues with the 86th Coronation of Queen Maysea.

The Coronation of Queen Maysea will take place on July 31 at 7 p.m. at Cape May Convention Hall.

The Queen Maysea Pageant is open to all girls 6 to 10 years of age who are yearround residents of the Greater Cape May Area. Participants should be 6 years of age as of July 1, and no older than 10 as of Aug. 1. Girls and boys age five and younger can also submit an application to participate in the coronation as a flower girl or page boy.

Interviews will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at Cape May Convention Hall.

All girls interested should submit a recent photo no larger than 5”x7” along with the application, which can be found at www.discovercapemaynj.com under the recreation tab. Printed applications can also be picked up at Cape May Convention Hall located at 714 Beach Avenue in Cape May. All applications must be received by July 6th. by Patsy Robinson Nelson Choke Chains and Prong Collars There are controversial conversations and even some laws (like the Toronto ban that was overturned for the time being pending more research) concerning choke chains and prong collars. For about three decades, I have been a part of the Cape May County Dog Obedience Club off and on depending on my schedule and age of my dogs etc., (I am currently a member and with two younger dogs in training, will be for a long time.)

Years ago, when we began to train, we were instructed to use choke chains, or for little dogs, the nylon ones, and for bigger dogs that were hard to control, the prong collar. Now our club shies away from choke chains, preferring the kind I like to sell-the safe choke, which is a nylon collar and a chain but it can never have serious consequences like a regular choke chain. If used with too much strength, or incorrectly, a choke chain can cause damage to the dog’s trachea and surrounding neck tissues. There is only one way to put on a choke chain, making the letter P facing the dog’s nose, and a choke chain should never be left on a dog unattended-dogs have been cited to get caught on something and have choke to death. Prong or pinch collars, should only be used by dog owners properly instructed. A much more humane method of controlling a strong, willful, or silly dog, is a head collar. I have been training owners with these collars (like the Gentle Leader) for twenty years.

sea bass were quality-sized, too. Bluefin tuna showed up abundantly both inshore and offshore. Plus, mako sharks, thresher sharks and tilefish are available. Dates are available for all of this fishing this month. Charters and openboat trips sail.

Five black drum were docked from Delaware Bay with Kevin Driscoll’s charter Saturday on the Heavy Hitter, Capt. George said. Forecasts for rough weather canceled a drum charter that was supposed to fish Sunday aboard.

Wind gusted to 30 to 35 knots, and rain fell. George knew no boaters who fished that day. Bluefin tuna are roaming the 30-fathom line. If anglers want tuna, telephone if interested, and fish for them while the tuna are there. Anglers had to find a pile of the tuna that felt like biting. Not all the bluefins did. If fishing stuck with them, a boat could keep trolling and hook none.

A boat had to move and find the right tuna instead. George knew anglers who caught the bluefins Saturday, before the rough weather. Some boaters shark fished Saturday. Jim’s Bait & Tackle in Cape May’s shark tournament was held this weekend. George was yet to know results. He thought a mako was entered, but that was unconfirmed. No makos were entered the past couple of years. Cape May’s South Jersey Shark Tournament will be held this coming weekend.

VINTAGE CAR & MOTORCYCLE BEACH DRAG RACES This is “our” American Heritage • This is... The Race of Gentlemen.

The Race of Gentlemen, or TROG as it is affectionately called, is a multi-day celebration that pays tribute to the early days of racing. Purpose built pre & post war vehicles flood the and battle the tide during this mechanical commemoration.

These purveyors of speed test the limits of machines built in their home garages or back yards, from across the land! These engineers pilgrimage to the Wildwoods once a year for some good, clean, old fashion fun!

The 7th Annual Race of Gentlemen Vintage Car and Motorcycle Beach Drag Races, one of the premier events of the summer, returns to the Wildwoods Friday, June 8 through Sunday, June 10, hosted by the Oilers Car Club/Motorcycle Club.

Spectators and racers alike will experience a simpler

time of when guys were gentlemen and cars were king!

1934 and older, and vintage automobiles and 1947 and older motorcycles – including Indian, Harley Davidson, Excelcior, Ford, Dodge Brothers and more – will compete in an exhibition-style beach race at the water’s edge between Schellenger and Spicer avenues in Wildwood.

On Friday, June 8, the ‘Night of the Troglodytes,’ a prerace party and bike show, takes place starting at 8 p.m. at the Binns Motel, Spicer and Atlantic avenues in Wildwood. On display will be ‘60s and ‘70s choppers and show bikes with live music hosted by Harley Carrera.

Race day begins on Satur-

day, June 9 and will feature vintage auto and motorcycle drag races from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gates open at 10 a.m. for spectators. There will be live music, a kids’ fun area, and food and beer vendors.

BEER FEST The Wildwood Beer Fest is a beer tasting event to celebrate the art of locally brewed craft beer. Located in Fox Park, on Ocean Avenue between E. Burk and E. Montgomery Avenues, this festival will be equally exciting for the brew aficionado and novice alike!

A ticket into this event grants you access to 100+ brews, a commemorative tasting cup, live tunes, delicious food and craft vendors. Beer sampling is unlimited with your ticket; food and merchandise are available for purchase. Entrance will only be permitted to ticket holders 21 years old with a valid ID, no exceptions.

The festival will be broken up into two separate sessions. A ticket allows entrance into a specific timed session – festivalgœrs are only permitted to attend one session: 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $40 in advance or $45 at the gate while tickets last.
