English Language Level Test Our hugely successful English Language Level Test (ELLT) is delivered through a world-class, low bandwidth and secure testing portal, making it the perfect solution for universities and secure global organisations.
Introduction Here at the Oxford International Digital Institute, our goal is to bring our teaching and learning expertise to a global audience; helping students all over the world to continue on their educational journey without barriers. Our English Language Level Test (ELLT) was created for this very purpose; a 100% online test with all the security and confidence of face to face examinations. Our unique testing includes interaction with live examiners, and an advanced security system to give confidence to partners in the validity of our results. This system has enabled thousands of students around the world to certify their English level, and move onto the next stage of their education without delay.
This guide will give you all the information you need about the test; how to enrol, what each stage looks like, and how best to prepare. You will also find information on our preparation course, an intensive programme designed to help approach each section of the test. There is also information for partners looking to refer students, whether universities, education ministries or other educational institutions. We are accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English online. We wish you every success with our English Language Level Test, and if you have any questions, please get in touch.

What is the English Language Level Test? The English Language Level Test (ELLT) is an alternative to IELTS that provides students with evidence of their English language level for entry into top UK universities or other education institutions. The ELLT is a four-step assessment which is 100% online, taking students one step further into higher education all from the comfort of their own home. On completion, students receive a certificate showing their overall language level, a breakdown of
all four skills, and a personalised report written by their examiner detailing areas of strength and suggestions for improvement. How does it work? The first two skills (reading and listening) are automated tests, with high levels of Artificial Intelligence proctoring and security. The third skill, writing, is assessed through a unique written task, and the final speaking component is booked by the student at a time most suitable for them. This speaking exam
takes place with a live examiner, who will also have assessed their previous three components. The examiner will then write a full report, at which point the student will receive a notification that their results are ready to access on the portal. The candidate will then be able to download both their written report and full certificate of language level. We recommend allowing 20 minutes for listening, 40 minutes for reading, 60 minutes for writing and 20 minutes for speaking.
For successful completion of the ELLT, please follow the test guidelines below.
Must be alone in a quiet, well-lit room
Ears must be visible and uncovered
Don’t perform any type of external communication
Don’t leave the test window in your browser under any circumstances
Talk clearly and directly into the camera for the examiner
Face must be visible and unobscured
Don’t look away from the screen
Don’t use writing materials or paper
Arrive on time for the speaking test
Do not read from notes or a script during the speaking assessment
Be prepared to show the original Passport or ID used in the other sections of the exam
Listen carefully to instructions given by the examiner
What is the portal? The portal is designed to make the test as accessible as possible for students and partners alike, allowing students to take control of their own journey throughout, ensuring they can take each section of the test at a time most suitable for them. Students are able to register and pay for the test giving them immediate access to the first three stages (reading, listening and writing). Each of these can be taken individually, and once completed students can book their speaking assessment for a time which suits them best (according to examiner availability.)
As well as being a user friendly platform for students to access, the portal has been designed to work in areas with low bandwidth, avoiding disruption to the student as they take the test. Students are able to pause their exam after each section, and can continue at any time by logging back into the portal. They are notified when their final results are ready, and can access both their written report and certificate within their profile.

Test security The English Language Level Test uses advanced test security to ensure that students’ results are a true reflection of their ability. With a mixture of AI proctoring and security protocols, alongside our team of examiners from our English language schools, we are able to confidently deliver results to students all over the world.
Comprehensive proctoring
ID verification
Advanced Artificial Intelligence, with the help of our examiners and in-house academic team, analyses each test. Should an issue arise, a human proctor is called to examine the test session in question, analysing dozens of data points and behaviours to identify suspicious activity during the test.
Students must show their Governmentissued ID at the beginning of the test, which is analysed by artificial intelligence (and our examiners) to guarantee authenticity.
Secure Design Using individual test questions from a bank of questions enables the system to randomly construct tests to guarantee that multiple users do not see the same content. All questions are written by our in-house academic team and are updated frequently.
4
Activity monitoring Each test is rigorously monitored through usage of a webcam, microphone, and mouse/ keyboard tracking to determine if students attempt to access external applications or plugins. Event logging All activities of the user, including screenshots taken randomly during the test, are recorded on an Event Log for administrators to analyse and take action when required - in extreme cases this can be shared with university partners.
