Meeting once a month, this is an opportunity to collectively lead and represent the visual arts in the school All sorts of things will happen including sharing information on exhibitions, discussing techniques, making posters for events, writing art reviews, engaging in practical workshops and more

FIRST Tech Robotics Club

Be part of a team that designs and builds a robot to compete in a national competition. In addition to the robot build and programming, the team will need to raise funds, research solutions, and present their journey in an online portfolio

Performing Arts

Concert Band

For: Years 7-13 - students who play a wind, brass or percussion instrument at (Grade 5 +)

Wind band music is really varied and fun It can range from symphonic pieces by classical composers, through film scores and musical theatre compilations, to pop medleys and lively pieces by contemporary composers We will be exploring the full range of music for wind band, and will have performance opportunities in senior concerts, as well as playing our fun pieces on other occasions around the school and beyond

Lower School Orchestra

Any standard welcome, but you will find it easier to manage the music if you are Grade 3 or better. Playing in an orchestra, being surrounded by the sound of all the other instruments, is one of the most exciting experiences you can have as a musician LSO exists to give students the chance to find out what this is like, and to develop the skills which will enable you to play at a more advanced level. LSO will have performance opportunities in Lower School Concerts every term

Chamber Music Groups

Playing in a small group is one of the best ways of developing your own musicianship independently. You can form quartets, trios and other sizes of group with different combinations of instruments Staff will help you find music to play, and can provide coaching sessions You can come along as a readymade ensemble, or you can talk to the Music teachers about what sort of group you could form and with whom.

Lower School Choir

Singing makes you happy! One of the most enjoyable things we can do with groups of other people is sing together Lower School Choir exists simply to sing and have fun It sings a variety of accessible music You do not need to be a great singer, or to have any experience of singing, or be able to read music to join. Just come along and enjoy being part of a great sound

Senior Choir

For: Years 10-13

Singing in a group is one of the best things we can do to promote our mental health and make ourselves feel good. Senior Choir is a group for everyone - not just good singers! It sings a wide range of different types of music (standard choral classics, musical theatre and pop arrangements, and contemporary choral pieces) Even if you don't think you can sing, come along and enjoy being part of an amazing sound.

String Orchestra is one of our most advanced and ambitious groups in the repertoire it plays There is a wealth of wonderful music for strings, from the Baroque period to the present day, and this group will enjoy exploring it all!

A smaller, selective choir Students who are members of Lower School Choir and have a good record of attendance and commitment will be eligible to audition This choir will aim to sing more ambitious music (in varied styles) and perform at a high standard – therefore, commitment from choir members is the most important requirement Later in the year we are aiming to take part in competitions and possibly to make a recording

Lower School Wind Quartet (Oboe, Flute, Clarinet and Bassoon)

Multi Piano Club

A club for pianists to play together! There is a rich repertoire of music written for groups of pianists ranging for up to 5 hands on 1 piano to 8 hands on 2 pianos Apart from being fun, these pieces help pianist develop the skills necessary when making music with other people, something that is impossible to do if you only ever play on your own. Please speak with Ms McMillan in the music office if you are interested in joining this group

Schola cantorum

For: Years 10-13 Entry by audition

Schola cantorum is a small group for advanced singers in the upper school (maximum 16 members, balanced between sopranos and altos) Prospective members will be asked to perform a short song in any style at audition This choir will perform in school concerts and events, and is also aiming to do some recording projects and external performances If you have some experience of choral singing and are ambitious to sing good music, in varied styles, to a high standard, please come and audition

The Summer 2024 Lower School Production is “Mary Poppins”

All details can be found on the 'Lower School Musical' Google Classroom.

The production has roles not just for performers, but stage crew, lighting and sound technicians, wardrobe and stage management

Technical Theatre Club

For: Years 8-13

Learn about the Russian speaking world and Slavonic cultures. Each session will be dedicated to a particular aspect of the language and culture Take part in various discussions and debates on topics including current affairs; learn about different mentalities and find answers to questions about Eastern Europe and its languages. You will also learn the Cyrillic alphabet to speak to your friends in code and make friendship bracelets and new friends There is food!

Are you in year 12? You are then required to complete the Warnock Extended Research Project. To do so, you can either opt for the OHS extended research project (ERP) or prepare for the official AQA Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) If you choose to prepare for the EPQ, completing the taught element for the course is an official requirement EPQ teaching will take place on Mondays, during lunchtime and attendance is compulsory for EPQ students. ERP students are welcome to attend if they wish!

Biodiversity Club

Calling all budding naturalists, gardeners and Eco Champions!

Increasing biodiversity in the school grounds is a central part of our mission to become a Zero Carbon school by 2030 Spend time outdoors with us at lunchtime (weather permitting), gardening, building bug hotels, creating wildlife habitats and helping us to bring as much wildlife into the school grounds as possible.

Eco Committee

The Eco Committee is led by the Green Prefects and welcomes new members from any year group. It is responsible for promoting sustainability at OHS and in the wider community and will hopefully begin to lead the school towards gaining official Eco-Schools status The Eco Committee will also report twice a term to the OHS Sustainability Steering Committee This will be an invaluable opportunity for students to gain leadership skills and make a tangible contribution to the fight against climate change

Climate Justice and Social Action Group

Model UN is an extremely worthwhile extracurricular to take part in, especially if you are interested in politics, diplomacy, law or international relations It also helps develop public speaking, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skills whilst critically engaging with current affairs. Our sessions are beginnerfriendly, and each week we’ll cover the information needed to be a successful model UN delegate If there’s enough interest, we’ll also start looking at entering competitions later in the school year We will post session materials on the Google classroom (code: au65yrk).
