Youth Headlines OQHYA Sends 76 Youth to AQHYA World Show

entries from Ohio are booming for the 2012 AQHYA Youth World Show, held August 3-11 in Oklahoma City. The Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association has sent in a record-breaking 198 entries for the show, which includes 76 youth and 98 horses.

For the first time, OQHYA will have team members competing in cattle classes: Tristen Rowland will compete in Working Cow Horse and Ranch Sorting, and Caitlyn Colvin will also compete in Ranch Sorting. The theme for this year’s show is “Find Your Inner Rockstar,” and OQHYA intends to take full advantage with guitars adorning their stall decorations and flash mob performance planned for their walk-in during the opening ceremonies. The Ohio Quarter Horse Association would like to wish each and every youth good luck at this year’s AQHYA World Show!

Two Ohio Youth Elected to National Office at YES

ach year youth from across the county gather at the Bank of America AQHYA Youth Excellence Seminar to participate in conferences, leadership exercises and politiking. The 2012 YES convention saw 161 AQHA youth members and 43 advisers converge on Amarillo, Texas from June 21-23. Activities for the weekend included an ice cream social; a great session with motivational speaker Aric Bostick of San Antonio, Texas; youth-led breakout sessions; a dance and a rousing round of the second annual “Ag Olympics” on Saturday afternoon. In addition to many organized events, youth also campaign for spots as officers on the American Quarter Horse Youth Association Board of Directors. This year, two youth from Ohio were elected: Bailey Mierzejewski of Mount Sterling as Secretary and Lauren Diaz of
