There are a lot of things that I want to tell you, but the first and foremost, thank you for being you that has inspired me and many more out there, thus this project has come to life. The reason why we settle with the word bloom to describe how you welcome your thirties, is because you have always been something exquisite, and how you always try to present your best self. I hope through this project, we can show you how much people admire you and wishes you the very best only, and that you are very adored – and may it stays like that for as long as it can be, because you deserve to be loved and to be happy. Arm bloom in 30 is the theme of this magazine that we think is perfect for welcoming your 30. As you are not stressed about numbers and choose to focus on your dreams to be able to try many things in terms of work, I do hope you are blossoming in your thirties. As someone who has been a fan of Mr. Perfect for some time, I definitely said yes to join the project in a heartbeat. Being a person who loves to analyze, has dedicated a fashion account for a celebrity and sees celebrities’ fashion, I always look up to Arm’s sense of fashion and think that you can pull off any style you want to. Aside from being fully charged in designing this whole magazine, I dedicated the section Steal the Look (p. 53) exclusively for you. I really hope you like this present! THEME FOR THIS ISSUE:

bloom free

A term established by two strong words – bloom and free, in which bloom is often associated with flowers and plants, as the state or period of flowering, it is known to be the peak of greatest beauty in its lifetime. It is the most beautiful time to be alive, in a sense, and to bring this word first thing first, we want you to be able to grow and to continue existing every single day because your existence itself is beautiful and precious to many, thus bloom is the perfect word that we want to give to you. It also means a process of becoming – while we are here to celebrate your birthday, we are also celebrating you and your continuous process of being who you are that we all love today. With this sense, in this blooming season, we would also like to celebrate change and let things fall into places with you. The theme itself, Bloom Free, is then taken from the hope of never stop blooming in every situation, to be able to keep going in whatever condition you may face in the future, and so that you can forever be strong enough like a flower against summer and rain, the ones that are flourishing in every situation. floret and the greeneries SIRIH BELANDA The big one is scientifically called Dieffenbachia seguine. I raised it from around January, in my living room and my garden. I don't love it, but my father loves it because it makes our house alive. I usually keep an update to my Pho about our plants. Also, the little ones called 'Sirih Belanda' in my hometown. I don't know the real name, but my mom loves it so much. She puts them in a hanging pot, which makes them more beautiful. Sirih Belanda is also the type of plant that is easy to grow, make sure it has enough water!

PALEM KUNING The plant number 2 is scientifically called Area palm. In Indonesia we called it 'Palem Kuning'. I keep it in my living room to keep the leaves stay green. My mom used to have 3 that were placed outdoors and it makes them slightly yellowed. Areca palm is a relatively low-maintenance houseplant. The palm is also easy to care for outdoors once it is situated in the right amount of light.

tapak dara The last one is 'Tapak Dara' or Catharanthus roseus. Even though I don't like the smell, I love them so much. Of course, the background from the photo is the Indonesian flag because August is our independence month. Ok, I have two types of Tapak Dara; one has pink flowers and another has white color of flowers. Another fun fact of this plant is the benefit of its flowers tisane drink to treat puffy eyes.

Bismarck Palm is a stunning, large silver blue fan palm that has become increasingly more popular in the past ten to twenty years. The origin country is Madagascar and in Indonesia we call it 'palem'. This plant is a symbol of victory, triumph, peace and eternal life.

Dracaena fragrans or female dragons are often called 'Sri Gading' here. This plant is toxic to cats and dogs so you must be careful because if eaten, cats and dogs will experience vomiting, overproduction of saliva and lack of appetite. This plant is a low maintenance species and can live for hundreds of years.

kamboja Kamboja or frangipani is a flower that doesn't contain any nectar, and therefore deceive the insects that come to pollinate it by its sweet, fragrant scent. The flowers are most fragrant at night; they use their scent to attract moths for pollination. This flower has carried complex symbolic significance for over 2,000 years, with striking examples from the Maya and Aztec periods into the present.

anggrek bulan Anggrek Bulan is what we call the moon orchid in Indonesia. This orchid is one of the plants designated as the national flower. Another name for this plant is phalaenopsis amabilis which also means the appearance of a beautiful butterfly or bee. Orchids are one of the oldest families of flowering plants that can live up to 100 years!

Jelapat is an active 6-year-old male orangutan who likes to climb trees and play with his best friend, Talaken, in Forest School. Whenever Talaken is worried or in danger, Jelapat will come to the rescue and quickly wrap his arms around her! She also does the same for him. In Forest School, Jelapat is a playful character who loves to wrestle with the surrogate mothers to let them know when he wants to play. Jelapat always approaches new faces and seeks their attention. As restless as he may be, Jelapat is still well liked by his peers!

This dark-comedy-drama series gives you insights on action’s risks and a closer look at pageant life too.

A GENTLEMAN’S DIGNITY ATYPICAL This heartfelt comedy follows Sam, a teenager on the autism spectrum, who has decided he is ready for romance. In order to start dating -- and hopefully, find love. This is a very comforting show, one from our top-lists, with no other way to describe this series other than warm. It will definitely give you this feeling of coming home and coming-of-age sense, and it’s very easy to watch even with all the issues surrounding the characters.

Unlike most Korean series within the genre, this drama brought 4 friends of 40 years old something men as their protagonists and tells the story of their careers as urban professionals, journey for love, and amazing friendship. Not gonna lie, their silly interactions remind us of #91จึ้งมาก even though you guys are still in your 30s, lol

YOUR DOG LOVES YOU - COLDE FT. CRUSH In your alone time at your apartment, this pretty and easy listening song has a certain calming beat that we hope you can enjoy. Even though this song talks literally about a dog – about how your pets will love you unconditionally – and we know you have no pets, but you have your plants and we guess it’s a bit one and the same. Knowing how nicely you take care of your greens; we know they must’ve loved you too.

LA VIE EN ROSE - LUCY DARCUS The modern cover of the original one by Édith Piaf takes the song to another level by giving it a hint of the rock genre and it’s a perfect background song for when you are driving or when you need a boost for your day. While the original sounds like a slow waltzing in the middle of the room kind of thing, this cover feels like going on an impromptu date and fearlessly, dancing the night away.

BREATHE - LEE HI Beautifully composed by the late Shinee’s Jonghyun coming from both his and her personal experience, this song speaks about the daily struggle and the gentle pat in each other’s back as the support we might never know we needed. This song is a nice reminder in this fast-paced world to take a moment for yourself and the luxury of a simple “breath”.

SOMEBODY - JUSTIN BIEBER Taken from the popstar’s latest album, Justice, this produced by Skrillex song is strobe-light lit, bolstered by weighty drum kicks and addictive chorus. Contrary to its striking music, the lyric is actually a simple such a ride-or-die anthem - for holding the people around you who no matter how long passed, the bond remains the same.

After 2 years of hiatus, Hanbin was able to come back stronger with his first album under his own label. The title track expresses sorrow and depression with a laid-back instrumental, making the song light to jam to. Illa Illa holds no precise meaning, but it’s fascinating that it's the sound of the waves of the seaside with your mouth! This song is about giving hope and getting back up no matter how inconvenient change is. Su su na!

LIFE STARTS AT RENDANG

CAKALANG FUFU PAMPIS MANADO Pulling the specialty from the North Sulawesi area of Indonesia, it is smoked skipjack tuna cooked as spicy rica-rica and accompanied by dabu-dabu. With red, green, and eye bird chilies being the highlight, this dish is hot, spicy, and best to serve with a bowl (or two) of steaming warm rice.

A legendary dish from Indonesia, national pride as it ranks first in the world. This dish has a natural preservative coming from hours of intense cooking, seeping all the nuttiness from the coconut milk and tropical aromatic to each bite of the protein. It might shock you with the spices, but precaution: it’s addicting!

FRIED CRISPY PORK WITH SAMBAL MATAH What's a tropical person without a little bit of hotness? Since we know you like spices, introducing: Sambal Matah. This menu pairs up the crunch with Balinese chili sauce made with shallots, lime juice, garlic, and coconut oil.

BIR PLETOK

Don't judge a menu by its name, just like how this Betawi beverage is called Beer Pletok, yet contains 0% of alcohol. Made from boiled ginger and lemongrass water, this drink gets its reddish color from a piece of sappanwood. Best consumed on a rainy day for when your body needs some warmth.

KOLAK

KOLAK Time for dessert! It is an Indonesian favorite, mixing palm or coconut sugar with coconut milk and pandanus leaf. There are many varieties but the infamous one is putting bananas, hence called kolak pisang or banana kolak. It’s a portion of nice comfort food that can give you a sense of warmth and energy boost at the same time, so it definitely will go with any occasion especially if you are craving some sweets!

LIFE STARTS AT OCEAN’S ELEVEN The first-ever Ocean franchise film, this is definitely on my recommendation list. It’s a comical heist drama movie, and it just constantly blows my mind of how smart a group of people can be if they work together, even for a heist. If you have watched their most recent one, Ocean’s Eight, you have to give this one a try.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS Rachel Chu is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. She's also surprised to learn that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and she has to face Nick's disapproving mother. THE TRUMAN SHOW Truman Burbank doesn't know it, but everything in his life is part of a massive TV set. Entailed by hidden cameras and orchestrated figures, Truman gradually discovers the truth and decides what to act on it. As an entertainer with life surrounded by the camera, we hope you are able to and remember to always stay true to yourself, to live your life.

THE INTERN

This is a film about a seventy-year-old widower who applies to fill the newly conceived position of a senior intern after retirement has become too boring for him. He applies to About The Fit, a fast-growing fashion start-up in Brooklyn. This is a fun, light, and heart-warming movie that involves the fashion industry and all the obstacles around it. They also have a really nice office set-up, which is a cherry on top! Definitely enjoyable and might give you some inspiration as well.

FUKUOKA

It is a city in Northern Japan with a former name, Hakata, that we highly recommend for your next holiday destination for it is not as busy as Tokyo or Osaka. Eat the famous Hakata ramen (one of the best and most famous ramen types in Japan) while sitting near Hakata port and enjoy the view (you can also see Busan from the port!). The mountain is also not so far from the city if you want to clear your mind, sight-seeing the city view from Fukuoka Tower, watching concerts from the biggest dome in Kyushu, Fukuoka PayPay Dome. Crave for some window shopping? Don't worry because they also have luxury malls in Hakata and Tenjin area (yes, the underground mall in Tenjin station).

AMALFI Deemed an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape by Unesco, the Amalfi Coast is one of Italy's most memorable destinations. It’s a popular holiday destination, with sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages. Lombok is home to one of three pink beaches in Indonesia and is Bali’s neighbor, sitting just moments away. Just like Bali, this Indonesian island has plenty of stunning coastlines to explore and Tangsi Beach is perhaps the best of the bunch. This rose-hinted shoreline offers fantastic snorkeling opportunities in its rich waters, or you can choose to simply recline on the sand. Those with more energy can head up to the beach’s many berugaks (clifftop houses) to soak up panoramic ocean views – pure bliss!

TOURNESOL: AN ARM SHORT JOURNEY The novel idea about how life is about going somewhere has always been very intriguing – maybe it is almost like walking to a destination, in which indicating that there is a finish line somewhere with multiple stops in between – for Arm Weerayut, one of the stops is somewhere east from the infamous Danube River, in the middle of Europe and in the city known as Vienna.

vienna state opera When he decided to pack a bag and impulsively wanted to escape from his daily routine, including his jobs and his life for a short while to celebrate his birthday, Vienna was not even on his itinerary and somehow, he still ended up admiring the Vienna State Opera. It is also the first renaissance revival major building on Vienna’s heritage site, Arm reads, and it is probably one of the prettiest things he has seen since he landed from London – – and Arm has always liked pretty things.

As he grows older, he appreciates them a bit more and more, like how the sun hit his bed and turning his clean white sheet into a shade of faint orange, or how he finds that plants are actually therapeutic and started collecting them as he learns to love green – those are pretty too, little ones are not that different than bigger things, Arm learns how to celebrate even the tiniest pretty. But that doesn’t lessen the fact that the opera house is a magnificent work and that going somewhere unplanned is a right decision all along, maybe for now at the very least. Arm tightens his coat because it is a little windy, much cooler than Bangkok, as he crosses the street to the entrance of the prestigious building, he has a tour to attend there anyway.

Arm should have bought more outerwear, he thinks. He knows the weather is going to be much, much chilly since it is fall season, but his problem is that he only brings his monotone collection, and it doesn’t fit with how vivid Prague is and how gaudy Old Town Square is. Arm looked up from his phone as he tried to find the thing, as he passed by more crowds and street-musicians, who looked like they were having the time of their life – and at the end, Arm stopped a bit to watch the show.

TOURNESOL: AN ARM SHORT JOURNEY

It was probably one of the most interesting two minutes in his life – there are people singing and dancing along with the music, and when it’s done, people are clapping enthusiastically. Arm is going to write it down mentally on the back of his mind – that he should stop two minutes to watch other people occasionally because it could be interesting either way, and if it doesn’t, two minutes of not doing anything can clear his path.

Because he managed to find the attraction after standing still for two more minutes, and they called it the astronomical clock and it is only a minute until twelve, much to his very own luck. There are a quite number of crowds around it too, which piqued Arm’s curiosity even more. They said it is a pride of Prague, and is already damaged and repaired during its lifetime, but still it stands.

When the hour finally strikes, the tiny opening above the clock itself revealed some small figures moving in circles – they called it the Procession of the Twelve Apostles, Arm looked it up eventually – the entire thing lasts under thirty seconds, but somehow it was worth the while, and a lot of people will most probably agree with Arm. He ended up strolling around the square and had his lunch there, just to see the clock-show once more. --From what Arm has figured, it was originally a cemetery back in the seventeen hundred until around eighteen hundred before they made it a public park. Right then, it was filled with roses as they called it the Rose Garden Park, or Rosengarten in Germany, in which he is still not sure whether he pronounces it correctly or not.

It’s in Bern and if anyone’s not familiar yet with the capital city of Switzerland, the city is the stunningly serene one that Arm didn’t regret choosing as one of his stops.

There are some certain aspects of why he chose the city itself, maybe because he wanted to avoid the more obvious choice for the sake of new experience, and also because Arm could sit all by himself at the edge of the garden and look over the entire city as it is placed on a hill slope just across the river from the center of town. It feels nice, being alone for an interval of time is deliberating when life is about meeting a lot of people and making connections with them, or when life is about showing the best version of oneself to the public. In a way, solitude is a price that he has to pay most of the time, but at the end, all is fine, Arm enjoys them and knows how to appreciate a little break like what he is having at the moment.

TOURNESOL: AN ARM SHORT JOURNEY The thing is Arm is almost always in luck, as it supposed to be cloudy but still enough for him to peek the mountain right from where he is sitting – and it almost feels poetic on top of everything, he wished he could have poured sights that his eyes have seen more rather just in a form of digital photos – sometimes they are enough, the other times, things has always had more to offer when we are present, like this edge of Bern for example. His phoned dinged in the midst of ease, the reminder of his reservation at the garden’s notorious restaurant popped up as he took a quick look at the screen – and they said lunch with a view could make the food if not more, twice better than the original taste, Arm couldn’t miss it in any chance. He might even order a bottle of wine all for himself at this rate.

Nobody knows how many stops people are getting before they reach their destination at the end, but it is exciting to figure them out anyway – Arm draws this conclusion in Florence, when he was strolling around the infamous Bardini Garden, right in the heart of the city. There is always this kind of rush of humans needing to be certain somewhere in a certain specific time, all based on this perception of having an expiration date that in all honesty, does not really exist in some sense.

Arm leaned in more to the edge of the bridge as he recalled the memory of examining the villa the day before – anyway, Ponte Vecchio stands connecting two sides that had been separated by Arno River, Arm happened to be wanting to cross it. Maybe they should have changed for a bit, that life is not about constantly trying to get somewhere or trying to get to the other side – it could be moving in the same place but still enjoying every moment given nonetheless, a bit more like dancing instead of going from one place to another. It could be just appreciating a lot of tiny happiness in life, and sometimes that is enough to keep from the present like a token of memory to be remembered in the future.

Arm thinks as he got to the other side of the river, that he is going thirty, and it might be the time where he starts pouring himself out at the moment, and making the most out of everything, yet staying still when it is needed because everything doesn’t have to be scheduled anyway, everything is just right where they are, like he is where he is right then, in the middle of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. As he stopped his track for a while, reflecting himself from head to toe, second by second and moment after moment, and solemnly promising that – – he will continue to exist abundantly and wholeheartedly.

Gravure Magazine itself comes from the fictional alternate universe/fanfiction goes by the name The Art of Ordinary from Twitter (@morenefarious). It is a story about the life of a group of publishing office worker’s life and how they overcome their daily struggles, whether that be about work or relationships.
