GARDENERS RESIDENCE
“ABOVE THE GROUND“ BRIDGE PROPOSAL “KOMP LOFT” PROFESSIONAL
This project aims to reclaim the connection between Maple street and New Burn Avenue. The design includes a health center, food pantry, studio space, green house, public weekend market space and garden space. The project being located in an area that doesn’t feature a lot of desireable views aims to create inward views to be utilized by the health center and studio spaces.

Cross section perspective through site showing the projects connection to its site.
Lower masses anchoring building on site. These masses also hold major spaces and help create internalized views on the site into gardens and market space and hold upper garden spaces.
Upper volume spanning across masses holds Green house spaces and supporting volumes while also defining major entry points on the facade of the building.
Overarching skin system unites the masses and volumes as well as defines the main entry to the site and the exterior market space.
The project helps provide a reconnection of the two major site defining axis’ which are Maple street and Hargett Street . It provides a more desireable transit through and onces disconnected area.
This section shows the cross spatial connection within one of the lower masses, the greenhouse and the site. It also shows he connection of the established bus stop and Hargertt Street.
This project includes designing a residence for a grape farmer in Downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. This residence is to serve as growing space for the grapes as well as aparatus to support the planting and growing process. The structure is also to accomodate space for recreational activity and hosting guests for wine tasting and smaller events. In collaboration with my teamates we create a project that fully emerses you the in process of wine making from the growing stage to the processing stage and to the consumption stage.

Tannat, a French grape which produces a agship wine in Uruguay, is heat and humidity tolerant, retaining good juice ph balance and resisting mold and insects in the Piedmont climate. To grow grapevines on a building frame, you need to create a supportive and functional system that promotes healthy vine growth while ensuring the plant's needs for light, water, and space are met. Here are the key systems to consider:
- Trellis/Support Structure- The building’s façade and adjacent framework incorporates a modular trellis system that allows for the natural growth of climbing plants. The framing is designed to utilize steel cables and members to provide both and horizontal and vertical pathway for the growth of vines. the spacing of the support elements are coordinated to ensure su cient pruning and care forthe vines.
There is a significant disconnect between communities in Raleigh’s Southwest region, its downtown core, and Dorothea Dix Park. Public spaces are fragmented, inaccessible, and lack safe crossings over Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard—a major east-west thoroughfare. Historically, Dorothea Dix Park functioned as a mental health hospital and was intentionally designed to remain separate from the city. While now envisioned as Raleigh’s ‘Central Park,’ its decentralized location limits its integration with the urban core. Despite ambitious plans to transform it into a premier destination park for the Southeast, its current connections to the city remain inadequate and isolating. Our proposal introduces a series of bridges over Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and the Dawson/ McDowell Street cloverleaf, fostering connections between isolated communities and linking downtown Raleigh to Dorothea Dix Park.

The Komp Apartments is a renovation project that I got to be apart of in the downtown Hattiesburg area. This project is a city infill renovation that involved the renovation of a 100 year old 4-story warehouse to higher end loft apartments. I got to be involved in both the planning and execution stage of the project and this project challenged my ability to rethink existing spaces while also introducing me to the professional architectural scene. I worked on this project with my co-workers at James Ray Polk Architecture under the supervision of James Polk, Architect.
