I think it is now safe to say that autumn is here. For all of us autumn means breaking out the warmer clothes, but for some of us, it is also time to start planning and budgeting for 2015. I know it is hard to believe we are already in the 4th quarter of 2014, but here we are. I hope that your business has done well this year and you are looking forward to more success in 2015! As you are preparing your budget, I ask that you take a look through the 2015 Sponsorship Opportunities packet for our Chamber, and make sure that you include the Chamber in your marketing and community outreach plan. Your O’Fallon Chamber works very hard to make sure that all of our sponsors get the biggest bang for their buck. I know this isn’t a luncheon, but I would like to give a Shout-Out to the City of O’Fallon, all of its businesses and residents. If you haven’t heard, once again, Money Magazine has ranked O’Fallon as one of the country’s “Best Places to Live”; I’ll also add we were the only Missouri city to make the list! Enjoy the season! Until next time, Jeff Arneson 2014 Chairman of the Board P.S. Be sure to congratulate Grandpa Jeff & Grandma Liddy on their new adorable granddaughter, Barbara Rose.

O’Fallon

Continued from Cover addition to Money’s previous rankings in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, O’Fallon was named “one of the best cities in Missouri to live and find a job” by nerdwallet.com, and O’Fallon currently is ranked as one of the 20 “safest cities in America” by CQ Press and the “safest large City in Missouri” (population 50,000+) by the SafeWise Report. “We are truly excited to once again be on this prestigious list,” said Mayor Bill Hennessy. “Honors like these tell the world something that our residents already know. Our City really is a wonderful community in which to live, work and play. This listing is a testament to our residents, our businesses, civic organizations, schools, churches, community volunteers and our elected officials and tremendous City staff. “Our leaders are called on to make O’Fallon the ‘best city in the State of Missouri.’ With this ranking, we have once again achieved that goal, and we have set a standard of excellence that we intend to maintain for future generations.” O’Fallon is the only city in Missouri to be included on this listing by Money Magazine. According to Money: Today, (O’Fallon’s) location near the confluence of two interstate highways makes it a hub for major employers, including CitiMortgage, MasterCard, and SunEdison. Since 1990, the city’s population has more than quadrupled. Yet O’Fallon’s growth hasn’t squelched its charm. On the contrary, the arrival of newcomers has helped bolster the city’s historic downtown, bringing in new restaurants—not to mention food trucks—and giving rise to new community and sports centers. Meanwhile, O’Fallon continues to embrace its history at such annual events as Founders’ Day, Fall Fest, and the Heritage & Freedom Fest, one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in the state. In assessing communities, Money magazine compared national statistics on a variety of topics, such as economic opportunity (income, taxes, purchasing 6 | Business Connection | October 2014

power and fiscal strength, etc.), housing prices, education, health, public safety, and leisure and cultural activities for 2014. In addition to high marks for its low crime rate, O’Fallon also stood out for the number of businesses who have either headquartered or made a significant investment in O’Fallon, the City’s extensive park system, and the overall sense of community that extends throughout the City. To determine this year’s rankings, Money Magazine used statistics from OnBoard Informatics, American Alliance of Museums, Bureau of Labor Statistics, C2eR, Census, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, county assessors offices, Environmental Protection Agency, FBI Uniform Crime Report, Federal Aviation Administration, Gallup, Greatschools, Infogroup business database, insure.com, Kaiser Family Foundation, League of American Orchestras, Moody’s, National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, National Cancer Institute, National Conference of State Legislatures, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Office on Women’s Health, RealtyTrac, Standard & Poor’s, taxadmin.org, Trulia, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and whitebookski.com.

ell us about yourself. I grew up in St.Charles and graduated from St.Charles West, then went off to college at Mizzou and gained a bachelor’s degree in Financial Management. For the first 13 years of my career I worked in the mortgage field as a loan officer and in wholesale mortgage sales. Over the past 4 years I have transitioned over to the commercial side of lending and really enjoy interacting with business owners on a day to day basis helping them achieve their goals.

Tell us about your organization. Citizens National Bank is a locally owned community bank headquartered in Maplewood, MO with branches in St.Peters, St.Charles, Westport, Florissant and South County.

I have a wonderful wife Becky and three kids Jake (21), Sara (11) and Charlie (8). We have also been blessed with a beautiful 3 month old granddaughter, Harper.

What do you do to serve your clients best? My approach to working with my customers is to first just sit down and have a conversation about their business and learn about their successes and what are the biggest challenges they face. We can then work together to develop a plan to achieve their goals. My suggestion to any business owner is to develop a strong circle of trusted advisors that include a banker, accountant, insurance agent and financial planner.

Outside of work I enjoy playing softball and basketball and coaching my kid’s sports teams. I am also very active at Calvary Church in St.Peters where I serve as a 4th grade Sunday School teacher and am in my 4th year as league director of the Upward Basketball and Cheerleading program.

What is the mission/vision of your organization? We’re proud to be a local bank that embraces the principles and values of the communities we serve. Our goal is to offer innovative products and services to all of our customers.

What are you most looking forward to in the next 5 years for the company? This is an exciting time in the local business community! In the next 5 years there will be a lot of turnover as ownership of companies are passed down to the next generation and I am thrilled to be a part of the growth of the next generation of business owners. Why would you recommend the O’Fallon Chamber? The O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce is a dynamic group of business owners and other influential people in the St.Charles County business community. We have a lot of fun, while remaining focused on the primary goal of joining the chamber – to grow your business!

An Eye on the Future Continued from page 6

“I couldn’t be happier to see this day approaching,” said Ehlmann. “This project was a team effort between MoDOT, St. Charles County and all the municipalities, and demonstrates the kind of progress that can take place when everyone works together towards a common goal.” Phase 3 of the Route 364 Page Extension is a $118.2 million roadway project that includes construction of a four-lane divided highway from Mid Rivers Mall Drive to I-64 in St. Charles County and is expected to be completed by Nov. 2014. The County and its municipalities teamed together to fund $57 million of the project, with MoDOT funding $61.2 million. St. Charles County’s ½ cent Transportation Sales Tax, reauthorized by a 77% vote in Aug. 2012, provides $29,150,000 for the project. O’Fallon contributed $2.25 million to help with additional right-of-way costs, and Dardenne Prairie added $600,000 for improvements at Hanley Road. The County and its municipalities partnered with MoDOT to secure the federal grant funds necessary to complete the project.

Phase 3 will provide congestion relief for the residents of the central part of St. Charles County, make travel between St. Charles and Lake Saint Louis easier, and provide another route into St. Louis County. When the phase is complete, travel from Mid Rivers Mall Drive to I-64 is expected to take just seven minutes. It is anticipated with the completion of the Route 364 Page Avenue Extension that some motorists will decide to travel it for their commutes instead of I-70 and I-64, which will help to reduce congestion on those interstates. In addition, it is estimated that motorists who decide to use the extension from O’Fallon to I-270 will save approximately five minutes during their morning commute. Further, the completion of the extension means that more than 70% of the jobs available in the St. Louis region will be within a 45 minute commute from St. Charles County. In February 2013, the design-build project was awarded to Page Constructors, a joint venture with Millstone Weber and Kolb Grading, with Parsons Transportation serving as the lead designer. Construction began in May 2013. For more information on Phase 3 of the Route 364 Page Avenue Extension and the Oct. 4 events, visit www.modot.org/Route364.
