A Note from Polly

You may know that PBS stations reach more children, and more parents of young children, in low-income homes than any children’s TV network. In fact, our reach doesn’t end in front of the TV. As the summer approaches and school is no longer in session, OETA is providing high school students exposure to in-demand career paths in Aerospace, a booming Oklahoma industry, through a new initiative called “American Graduate: Jobs Explained.” And on television, our programming provides highly diverse shows for children of all ages such as Nature, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Odd Squad and Sesame Street, to name only a few.

This June we are also featuring fresh, fun, and relevant programs for all ages of our audience. Our summer of mystery and juicy dramas include new episodes of Endeavor, Ridley, and Astrid beginning Sunday, June 18 at 7:00 p.m. For Juneteenth, demystify the complex history behind Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts, airing Monday, June 12 at 9 p.m. We are also excited to share with you for the first time From the Heart: A Tribute to Lawrence Welk & the American Dream, airing Saturday, June 3 at 6:00 p.m. As you can see, we have a little bit of everything for everyone!

Thank you to our donors, who have shown abounding kindness and support toward OETA. Your contributions help us reach Oklahomans from all walks of life within our community, which we will strive to do for years to come.

AMERICAN GRADUATE: JOBS EXPLAINED

OETA is one of 10 public media stations nationwide selected to create digital career-focused videos to help connect young people with potential careers in the next chapter of the American Graduate public media initiative –American Graduate: Jobs Explained.

Led by The WNET Group and funded by a $3.2 million grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), American Graduate: Jobs Explained focuses on digital content developed by, with and for youth, and shared on social media platforms to help young people stay inspired, commit to continued education and training, and explore potential careers.

After the economic upheaval caused by the pandemic and the Great Resignation, educational institutions and American employers alike are considering how to best prepare the next generation of students for careers. Through American Graduate: Jobs Explained, public media stations will work with local youth to produce social media videos on careers in specific industries. OETA is producing videos about the Aerospace industry and they will be available on Instagram Reels and YouTube with #AerospaceJobs_Explained.

The WNET Group, which is leading the national American Graduate: Jobs Explained effort, worked with CPB to select and collaborate with the 10 stations. Each will create original digital videos about in-demand, lucrative and civic-minded careers in industries like aerospace, healthcare, green transformation, trades, information technology and hospitality. The goal is to not only improve the economy, but also build stronger, informed and more civic-minded communities.

“CPB’s support of the American Graduate initiative helped to increase the high school graduation rate, and now our support of American Graduate: Jobs Explained will help young people discover and prepare for meaningful jobs and careers,” said Patricia Harrison, President and CEO of CPB.

The WNET Group will curate and manage the national American Graduate: Jobs Explained social media accounts, produce a professional development series, and assemble National Business Advisory and National Youth Advisory meetings, among other activities. American Graduate: Jobs Explained will also have a project website, providing a central hub for information about the work, as well as resources for young job seekers. Station partners will convene local business advisory and youth advisory groups and lead in-person or virtual community events, such as educator workshops or job trainings.

“American Graduate: Jobs Explained will connect with students through social media to highlight career paths in their communities.”

Summer of MYSTERY

As summer approaches and Oklahoma temperatures warm up, join us for a very special Summer of Mystery. These new drama-thriller premieres are sure to get your heart rate up, and keep you asking...who done it? Join us Sunday nights as we solve each case.

In this riveting new thriller, retired Detective Inspector Alex Ridley is called back to advise on a complex and compelling murder case by his replacement and former protege DI Carol Farman. Carol is keen to access Ridley’s unique insight into crime-solving which served them so well in the past, but the investigation takes a dark and unexpected twist. Watch Ridley Sunday June 18 at 7:00 pm

The curtain drops on the acclaimed detective series, portraying the early years of brooding, gifted Sergeant Endeavour Morse of Thames Valley police in Oxford. Shaun Evans (Vigil) stars in the title role, with Roger Allam (Murder in Provence) as his streetwise superior, DCI Fred Thursday. Endeavour, The Final Season brings this hit series to a close in three suspenseful episodes beginning Sunday, June 18 at 8:00 pm. “Final seasons are especially difficult,” says Susanne Simpson, Executive Producer of MASTERPIECE. “Our audience loves this series, as well as Inspector Morse and Lewis that preceded it. I can promise that these episodes are a beautiful and brilliant ending to this beloved show.” Inspired by MASTERPIECE’s 19872000 series Inspector Morse, starring John Thaw, and based on Colin Dexter’s bestselling mysteries, Endeavour turns back the clock to explore the making of this matchless detective, who spurns his first name to go by just “Morse.” Endeavour first aired in 2012 and has earned a devoted following for Shaun Evans, Roger Allam, and the other principal actors.

Astrid Nielsen works in the library of the judicial police. She has Asperger’s syndrome. With an incredible memory she excels at analyzing files of ongoing investigations. The district commander decides to use it to the fullest, entrusting her with very complex investigations which have remained unsolved to date. From Walter Presents, in French with English subtitles. Astrid premieres Sunday, June 18 at 11:00 pm.
