I could always turnoff the problems and find programs that inform, education as well as entertain on OETA.

A NOTE FROM POLLY

As the summer sun hits it peak during the day and fireworks light up the night sky, one of our most-watched programs of the year, “A Capitol Fourth,” will air Thursday, July 4 at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Join us in celebrating our nation’s independence with a spectacular display of music and fireworks, reflecting the American spirit within our hearts.

We also have some gripping Team USA features leading up to the Summer Olympics. On Tuesday, July 9th at 8 p.m., “American Experience: Boys of ’36” presents the inspiring story of a blue-collar American rowing team’s triumph at the Olympics during the Great Depression and the rise of Naziism. Get more out of a summer of sports on Tuesday, July 23rd at 8 p.m. by tuning into our 3-part series “Gods of Tennis,” which chronicles legendary matches and groundbreaking global achievements of tennis greats.

Another delicious summer treat to savor Mondays at 8 p.m. is the return of “The Great American Recipe,” celebrating the melting pot flavors of home cooking and cultural heritage. Allow the sizzling new season of “Hotel Portofino” to take you away on a summer holiday beginning Sunday, July 28 at 7 p.m., where high society enjoys the glamour of beachside life.

OETA has provided the most entertaining programs for me. Wednesday night is dedicated to Nature and Nova and I look forward to those every week.

OETA just gets better every year. I love all of the Sunday night shows, Midsummer Murders always has me on the edge of my seat and a smile on my face.

Finally, in preparation of our presidential election, the Republican National Convention will take center stage this month. Tune in to “PBS NewsHour” beginning Monday, July 15th at 7 p.m. for comprehensive coverage as the party nominates its candidates for President and Vice President.

As always, thank you for your continued support! Your generous donations make it possible for us to provide quality shows that educate, entertain, and inspire across the state.

Watch The Boys Of 36 Tuesday, July 9 at 8:00 pm

In the summer of 1936, nine working-class young men from the University of Washington took the rowing world and the nation by storm when they captured the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Berlin. These sons of loggers, shipyard workers and farmers overcame tremendous hardships—psychological, physical and economic—to beat not only the Ivy League teams of the East Coast but also Adolf Hitler’s elite German rowers. Featuring interviews with Brown, historians and surviving children of the 1936 Washington team, The Boys of ’36 recounts their unexpected victory and the obstacles they overcame to achieve it, giving hope to a nation struggling to emerge from the

Watch Jesse Owens Tuesday, July 9 at 9:00 pm

He was the most famous athlete of his time, whose stunning triumph at the 1936 Olympic Games captivated the world, even as it infuriated the Nazis. Despite the racial slurs he endured, his grace and athleticism rallied crowds around the globe. Yet when the four-time Olympic gold medalist returned home, he couldn’t even ride in the front of a bus. Jesse Ow ens is the story of the 22-year-old son of a sharecropper who triumphed over adversity to become a hero and world champion. But his story is also about the elusive, fleeting quality of fame and the way Americans idolize athletes when they suit our purpose and forget them once they don’t.

GODS OF TENNIS

Rebels, rockstars, revolutionaries. On court, they were legends. Off court, they challenged the world. Ashe, McEnroe, Borg, King, Navratilova, Evert.

In the pantheon of sports, tennis has always held a unique allure. Its blend of grace, power, strategy, and sheer athleticism has captivated millions worldwide. Yet, what truly elevates tennis from a mere sport to a cultural phenomenon are the players who mastered the game and transcended it, becoming legends in their own right. “Gods of Tennis,” the latest documentary series, pays homage to these iconic figures, offering a riveting exploration of their lives, careers, and indelible impact on and off the court.

In an era where the lines between sports, entertainment, and activism are increasingly blurred, “Gods of Tennis” is a timely reminder of the power of individual excellence to inspire collective progress. It celebrates not just the victories on the court, but the enduring legacies that these athletes have built through their character, courage, and commitment.
