LETTER FROM THE VP OF DEVELOPMENT
Dear OETA Viewers and Friends,
I’m one of the newest staff members at OETA, having joined the team in April. But I’m not truly new to OETA. You see, I grew up watching OETA from my parent’s living room in Tulsa. I remember seeing Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, The Electric Company, and even Zoom as a child (does this date me?), and planting my cultural and educational roots as I moved into adulthood with programs like Austin City Limits, Masterpiece, OETA Movie Club, and Nature. I’m thrilled to be a part of such an iconic, statewide, Oklahoma tradition.
Like me, I hope when you consider all the incredible lessons you’ve learned, artists you’ve discovered, or dramas that have held you spellbound, you know this place, this Oklahoma station, is the place for you.
As we begin our August Pledge Week (August 9 – 17), I ask you to take the opportunity to invest in OETA. Help make sure more of what you’ve experienced over the years continues to reach the airwaves across the state and beyond for you and those you care about. Help us reach communities that might not have any other access to educational, informative, and inspiring programs like you find on OETA.
During pledge week, the Puterbaugh Foundation of McAlester is offering to match the gifts of new members joining in support of OETA to encourage additional donations. Foundation leaders believe especially in the need for in-depth, informative, Oklahoma news like what you’ll only find in OETA programs like the Oklahoma News Report.
What does your support of OETA make possible?
• Every day, thousands of kids throughout Oklahoma have the chance to expand their curiosity with friendly, safe, engaging programs.
• Programs you watch are made possible thanks to donations from you and others like you – programs that bring our communities together with shared experiences and knowledge.
• Drama and arts programs – including those focused on Oklahoma artists like Gallery America – deliver joy and wonder to even the most rural, remote, and isolated parts of our state.
• And all this access is provided free. Our members and donor community make it all possible.
As you’re watching this month, when you see a request for your support, I hope you’ll join me in making a gift to OETA. Help us meet the match. Let’s share the joy that we’ve experienced with future generations of Oklahomans. We need you now more than ever!
My best,
Sally Ray VP of Development, OETA
THE PACIFIC IN FLAMES: 80 YEARS LATER THE
BOMB AND THE BATTLES THAT CHANGED THE WORLD
August marks the 80th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, an inflection point that reshaped the world and the nature of warfare. OETA is marking this solemn date with a powerful lineup of programming exploring the Pacific Theater’s brutal final chapter.
In Atomic People (August 4), the last living hibakusha, survivors of the atomic bombs, share haunting memories of August 1945, before their voices fade into history.
On August 5, Victory in the Pacific chronicles the unforgiving battles of Okinawa and Tokyo, and the decisions behind unleashing nuclear devastation.
Later that same night, Atomic Echoes examines the shared trauma of Japanese survivors and American atomic veterans, an emotional bridge across nations scarred by radiation and regret.
The story takes an even stranger turn with The Atomic Bowl (August 19), a surreal tale of an American football game staged atop ground zero in Nagasaki, raising eerie questions about denial and resilience.
Finally, The Bomb (August 25) examines the invention that changed humanity forever, its terror, its legacy, and the shadow it still casts.
Eight decades later, the lessons of the atomic age remain as urgent as ever.
DramaS SUNDAY
Your Favorite Sleuths
Return! Don’t Miss a Clue!
Sunday nights on OETA heat up August 24 with four gripping premieres that deliver mystery, intrigue, and plenty of plot twists. First, Professor T returns for Season 4. The brilliant but eccentric criminologist Jasper Tempest, played with sharp wit and precision, resumes his role as an advisor to the police while balancing his struggles with OCD. This season picks up six months after a devastating loss within the team, bringing fresh mysteries, deep emotional developments, and a surprising new musical pursuit for the enigmatic professor.
Then, it’s back to Marlow as Season 2 of Marlow Murder Club reunites retired archaeologist Judith Potts, vicar’s wife Becks Starling, and dog walker Suzie Harris. Their quiet town doesn’t stay peaceful for long, as the trio dives headfirst into puzzling new crimes: a murder in a locked mansion, a mysterious death in a cul-de-sac, and a deadly accident at the sailing club that may not be so accidental. With DCI Tanika Malik back on the case, the amateur sleuths once again prove their detective chops.
At 9 PM, Unforgotten returns with Season 6 of the award-winning cold case crime drama. DCI Jess James and DI Sunny Khan tackle their most gruesome mystery yet, a dismembered body found in Whitney Marsh. As they dig into the past, secrets unravel, suspects emerge, and the emotional toll deepens for everyone involved. Amid the darkness, the growing trust between the detective duo adds a compelling emotional thread.
Rounding out the night, Astrid Season 3 (originally Astrid et Raphaëlle) continues the story of Astrid, a brilliant archivist with Asperger’s syndrome, and Commander Raphaëlle Coste. This season balances personal upheaval and high-stakes investigations, from conspiracy theories to identity crises. Viewers will also follow Astrid’s budding relationship with Tetsuo and Raphaëlle’s complicated feelings for Nicolas, all while the pair tackles Paris’s most confounding cases.

Clearing the Air: The War on Smog
Tuesday, August 26 at 8:00 PM
This is the story of America’s fight against air pollution. It began in 1943, when choking smog covered Los Angeles, sparking fears of a chemical attack. Scientists linked it to cars and factories, facing industry pushback. Their discoveries fueled a movement that led to the 1963 Clean Air Act, the first major step toward protecting the air we breathe.
