Bahwan Engineering Group (BEG)
Nation-builder at work
I
f business success is defined by the size of a company’s order book and the complexity of the projects it undertakes, then Bahwan Engineering Group (BEG) stands head and shoulders above its peers. This is evident
from its track record in delivering a large number of high-profile integrated engineering and construction projects both within and outside Oman. Many of these projects are landmarks in their own right, attesting to the formidable capabilities of a company that is acknowledged today as a frontrunner in the Sultanate’s engineering construction sector. Over the years, BEG has built up an impressive portfolio of engineering contracts associated with the implementation of some of Oman’s – and indeed the region’s – best-known engineering and infrastructure developments. The list includes Muscat International Airport (Under Execution), Oman LNG (Train I & II), Qalhat LNG (Train III), Sohar Seawater intake and return system, Al Aweer Power Station (UAE), Sohar Power & Desalination Plant, Sohar Fertilizer Plant, Barka and Sohar (220KV) Power Development, Saih Rawl Depletion Compression Project etc,. Today, BEG is one of the largest engineering construction companies in Oman having considerable skills in the delivery of integrated multidisciplinary construction projects encompassing civil, mechanical, electrical & instrumentation construction and facilities management services. With more than 14,000 employees, including 800-plus engineers, the Bahwan Engineering Group continues to be a key player in the execution of projects across all segments of the construction sector, spanning Oil & Gas, Power Generation and Desalination, High Voltage Transmission and Distribution Networks, Hotels & Resorts, Hospitals, Shopping Malls, and Commercial & Residential Complexes, among other categories. This wealth of expertise and experience has made BEG the ideal candidate amongst others to execute the MEP package for OMRAN’s signature Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre project. As the specialist 30
Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre
subcontractor, BEG’s brief is to deliver the complete MEP (Airconditioning, Electrical and Public Health installations), Structural Steel, Diesel Generators, Elevators and Escalators for the Exhibition Hall, Multi-Level Car Park and the Energy Centre. At the heart of the state-ofthe-art Energy Centre is a large central cooling plant designed for 15000TR air-conditioning capacity comprising multiple 2500TR capacity Carrier Centrifugal chillers and associated pumps, cooling towers, and so on. With this capacity, the Energy Centre will not only meet the cooling needs of the convention hall, hotels, Business Park, retail areas, and so on, but also cater for future expansions as well. Equally substantive is the scope of the electrical package. It comprises 11KV/415V transformers, standby power generating sets, 415V electrical installations, specialized lighting systems, specialist low current systems, audio-video equipment,
SMATV, and security and access control systems. Besides, there is a sizable Public Health component incorporated into the contract. It comprises, among other things, a state-ofthe-art solar powered hot water generating system, fire alarm and fire protection system, and hot and cold water supply. Under a separate contract, BEG will build a 3X 20MVA Primary Substation (33/11KV) to cater to the power requirements of the entire development. Significantly, the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre package is the latest in a growing portfolio of prestigious contracts currently in various stages of implementation by BEG. Notable are the Muscat International Airport (MC1) infrastructure and utilities package; Muscat International Airport (MC3) MEP works for Passenger Terminal Building, Forecourt, Multi Level Car Park etc; Salalah International Airport (MC5) package for airconditioning works; Residential
& Commercial Development at Baushar for Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI); Majlis Oman building; Muscat and Qurum City Centre expansion and cinema halls project; Car showrooms and corporate offices at Wattayah for Oman Trading Establishment; and Manufacturing facilities and corporate offices for UES at Rusayl. The company has also successfully executed projects related to a number of high-profile developments, including the Al Masarra Hospital at Al Amerat; Salalah Gardens Mall, Royal Opera House Muscat, Duqm Frontier Town, Oman Arab Bank headquarters; the new Radio & TV Studios at Qurum, Sur 220KV Power Station and the 132/33KV Substation and Transmission System at Yiti etc. Given the strategic and economic importance of the great majority of these projects to Oman’s national developmental goals, BEG has always been a part of select handful of companies that have been at the heart of the nation-building process in the Sultanate. Indeed, BEG is the only company in the MEP sector that integrates multiple disciplines under one umbrella. BEG’s longstanding success in this field is a commitment to delivering projects that not only meet, but surpass, the expectations of clients. A proven track record of having delivered the most demanding projects of diverse complexities to exacting standards, coupled with our professional set-up, technical expertise, facilities and manpower resources, sets BEG apart from their competitors. BEG bring to the table extensive local knowledge, a proactive approach, and a robust after-sales service commitment extending not only during the construction phase, but also during the defects liability period and beyond.” BEG always accords priority to the development of national youth & is committed to Omanization.
